They are doing a great job at re-creating an authentic farm and homestead. This is a working farm with period actors to reenact life in the early 1800s and to answer questions about the period, the family, and the park.

This place is truly AWESOME for families and history nerds like us! It was a super hot day when we went, but my son absolutely LOVED the workers in period clothing. All staff or volunteers were exceptionally friendly and answered our questions about the tools they used, how they smoked meat in the smoke house, the animals on the plantation, and the furniture in the home. If you love learning about our great state, or you just want to step back in time, this truly was more awesome than I thought it was going to be!

This place was great! And the staff was incredible! I like History, but am by no means a huge History buff. These folks kept the attention of 30+ 13 year old boys and even got them engaged in activities. Not an easy task by any means. 100% worth the visit.

I loved visiting this historic site. Great area to walk and tour the grounds. Loved the oxen by the barn. The docent did a wonderful job explaining how the animals were used to help with preparing the soil for planting. The barn is beautiful. Great restoration efforts of this historic location. It is located at the Washington on the Bazos State Historic site.

Excellent place for history to come alive. From the workers in period clothing to the live animals still working the land, visiting this site truly brings what would be mundane facts into perspective. Be sure to wear shoes that you dont mind getting a tad dirty. I would suggest visiting in the early morning while the weather is still cool and there arent many visitors just yet. Note that tickets for this site are purchased at the Visitors Center where you arrive when you first pull into the main site.

The place was very low-key and simple. Nothing fancy, but very calm and peaceful. Really gave me room to reflect on how significant a thing it was that humans ever enslaved other humans. Everyone should have the experience of admiring the well-to-do home of an otherwise well-intended frontiersman and then see the dirt floors his enslaved people had for their home. It was sobering. I hope Texas continues to teach about its past (and present) interracial developments because we cant make progress without seeing where weve been and where were at.

All the ladies were superbly wonderful, LOVE their job and love sharing what they know. The younger gal, oh what a treasure!! The passion for what shes learned and what she lives day in and day, doing exactly, historically accurate, every step of the way. Then shares, shows, tells of the life when the Joness lived here, absolutely the best Ive experienced in all my years visiting historical sites (which covers 4 decades). From the clothes she wears, all hand made (minus the petticoat), including the boots/shoes, most by her, to the slaughtering of the turkeys, chickens, and didnt get to finding out about the hogs; picking, planting, pruning the gardens, vegetation, everyone here does the work, walks the walk, cooks from the kitchen, eats whats grown, exciting tale of cornbread, but this gal, man, incredible!! A definite must visit and listen, learn, ask, they all have so much to share beyond what youd expect, anticipate.

What an amazing place! The staff is INCREDIBLE! They answered all my kids questions, provided extra information and were patient and excellent at explaining concepts to children. The farm is so neat and we learned all sorts of things about early Texas, farm life, farm animals, gardening, cooking....we have been here several times and it appeals to people of all ages! Highly recommend for a fun, educational tour. Id recommend doing the tour at Independence Hall first, as the two experiences fit nicely together! There isnt a lot of shade, so dress lightly, wear a hat and be ready to ask questions!! My kids were 12/9 for this visit, but they also loved the farm in younger years. We have been reading the Farmer Boy book and studying a farming block, so this was a great enrichment for us!

We had an awesome tour guide, he was very knowledgeable about the farm. The weather was beautiful. We saw different kinds of wood on the cabins. We saw huge oxen, there were roosters, chickens, cows. Saw vegetable gardens. We got a chance to see old slave quarters and a smoke house where they still cure the meat and let it hang up for a whole year before they can cook it. We saw the furnishings that were in the slave quarters. What was missing was more livestock and there were no horses.

Phenomenal educational experience for all ages. My 10 yr old son now has a different perspective of present day life to hard labor life with no technology. He has been inspired in a jaw dropping way. He told me the other day, out of the blue that he really enjoyed working on a farm. I have seen a positive change in him; going from a lazy gamer with an attitude to a young boy who completely comprehends what life was like in the 1800s. In all honesty, had I known that this excursion would be an eye opener, we would have gone a long time ago. We had so much fun! Great family experience and I encourage all 4th grade Texas History classes to have an all day field trip. Unforgettable experience!
