I have been coming out to Candys for over twelve years now and the food never disappoints. If you have to be downtown I highly recommend this place. The food is excellent and the prices are very fair compared to other places downtown. The workers are really nice and always helpful. I know they will be moving into a new building soon near the governors mansion but that will not stop me from having their amazing food lol. My favorites are the bacon cheese burger combo and the fried chicken Cesar salad.

Without a doubt, this best hamburger I have ever had! Seriously. The only complaint I have is that I only found this place on my last day in San Antonio. The place is tiny and old and has a hole-in-the-wall feel to it. But the young woman at the counter was very nice, my food came quickly (it was about 2:30 PM), and best of all, the guy at the grill was a freaking genius! I got a mushroom Swiss burger with added fried onions, and fries for my side. Fantastic! I seriously am unhappy that I wont get to go back there. If you are ever are in downtown San Antonio and want the best hamburger of your life, this is the place!

Very good quality: the food, the service, the atmosphere. I hadnt been in at least 4 years and nothing has become even slightly less awesome. In fact, today (7/11) one of the young ladies on staff noticed I was on a scooter and having to carry two drinks, so she put them in a carefully tied bag for me and even taped the lids down to make sure they didnt spill. Really awesome service, and I truly appreciate it. Kid-friendliness: As long as theyre not busy, seating is great (its a bit small but pretty good spacing for downtown). Not a ton of kids options but they do have a few and thats usually just fine. Best pricing youre going to find downtown too.

A blast in the past hole in the wall location in central downtown. Had the Chicken fried Chicky platter which was extremely reasonably priced but a little lacking in flavor. I d come back for the convenience, and maybe to try their burgers. They should consider adding better lighting, I could barely see my food lol

Easily the best place to eat if you work downtown are just in the area for lunch. They offer a wide range of food and its actually cook made to order. None of their food taste frozen and they always offer a personal customer service experience. I come for the burgers but stay for the great people that work here as well.

I had the opportunity to check out Candy s Burgers while serving Jury Duty at the courthouse, and boy was lunch on point! Right across the street, easy little stroll to get there and the service was excellent and fast. Even though the spot is small and the number of people visiting on their lunch hour, they crank out their food fast. Everything was hot and fresh, tarter tots were crispy, burger was delicious! Would highly recommend checking out if you re in the area!

Burger was awesome served hot and fast ordered onion rings picked one up immediately smelled the fish. I got 1 staff members attention she looked right at me and walked to the back being Im a wheelchair and sitting in the rear right side it is rather difficult to maneuver in this small space. Another young lady started cleaning the table beside ours I asked her if the onions rings were cooked in with the fish as I am allergic to fish and she came back said yes and took my plate. I am still sitting in the back corner. They have not offered a replacement of something for the rings nor any monies back for them. Customers Be very cautious if you have any type of allergy.as I said Burger was great. CUSTOMER Relations leaves alot to be Desired. At least I didnt make a scene In their full house I could have taken a bite and waited for an ambulance and sued there is no warning posted anywhere about allergens. Not your typical burger spot! I love the old school vibe this place has! This is some of the best food in the downtown area! Not very big so I dont suggest having a large group of people. Burgers arent the only thing on the menu! They have something tasty and delicious for everyone! The chicken fried steak is one of my favorites, along with their amazing onion rings! Must try!

Arrived at this restaurant at 3:30. They close at 4pm. The staff was all ready to leave and wouldnt serve us. Really wanted to try this place and now, will never go back due to being turned away. Roy L Burger is really good. Friendly staff. Short wait time. Fries are v good too. Soda cup is v big. Edit: It has been a few months since I wrote this, I wanted to let you know that this is probably the best burger Ive had in San Antonio so far, and Ive been here for around a decade. Highly suggest this one. Edit: This is yet another months later, I have tried most of the burgers on the menu and theyre all good. Fries or tots, theyre both peak. The chicken sandwiches or tenders are also top tier. I forget to take pictures cause I just dig in. And fast food has got nothing on their kitchen staff, theyre the F1 pit crew of the restaurant biz - very fast service even during rush hour, and friendly on top of that. AND the place is so clean and the staff are constantly checking for refills or retrieving plates/clearing tables. Theyve really got something special going on here.

I used to love Candy s, I used to go quite often. Please keep in mind, it s been a few years since I ve gone (probably should ve done this review when it happened both times). Unfortunately, on 2 separate occasions, I had hair in my food. One time there was a hair cooked into a tater tot. I decided I d give them another chance & still went to their restaurant again, another time, I had a hair inside my burger in the cheese. I was really grossed out. It happened once & hey it happens right, twice, maybe something different should be done to avoid this but I m not staying to find out. It was disappointing because the food was good in all the times I d been. They offered to replace the items on both occasions, I let them replace the tots but the burger, I got my money back & didn t return again.

We had heard good things about this place and we had tried to go one day and they were packed. Tried again today and let me tell you, it does NOT live up to the hype. I got the mushroom Swiss burger and there was mushrooms only on the back half, burger was dry with no flavor. It was an overall okay experience. I probably will not be going back. My coworker had the steak sandwich which he said was greasy but good. Another coworker of mine had a burger and said it was alright also. Overall, too small of a place and it gets crowded easily, food takes a while and out of order. I really wanted to like this but I don t think I ll be returning. Sorry guys.

Today, I attended jury duty downtown at the court house. I ran into a friend of mine in the juror waiting room so both of us needed something to eat for lunch. We walked across the street to Candy s and got a cheeseburger and fries. I had the double meat double cheese with some tater tots and it was wonderful. The bun was toasted and the meat was slightly charred, hmmm. So if you ever get called for jury duty downtown and you need a place for a great cheeseburger then walk over to Candy s Old Fashion Burgers.

First let me say that Im not a big burger person. But while at the courthouse I had my boyfriend run here mainly bc it was really close. I had the BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger with a small fry. Boy let me tell ya... this was sooooo good! The meat wasnt real thick and was juicy. Perfect amount of toppings. The bread was so soft and soaked up all the flavors. Probably one of the best burgers Ive ever had. Only critique I could give would be that the fries could have used some salt. But the deliciousness of the burger overshadows the salt less fries. Still not a burger person but definitely a Candys person! You gotta try this place!

Candys is a very good burger restaurant. I have only eaten here a few times, and the burgers have never let me down. They have a great taste and consistency hood flavor. The only complaint I have is with seating and the restroom. They only have a one stall restroom here for both genders. Also, they have a limited number of tables, so if you show up during a rush, you might not be able to eat here. However, they are very fast at getting food out, so you can definitely eat here in under 30-40 minutes. Wheelchair accessibility: I have seen a lady with an electronic wheel chair have difficulty getting out of the building.

Ive tried several dishes from here. The blackened chicken sandwich was a bit too salty for my liking. The downtown club was very large and tasty. Id recommend dining in rather than ordering to go. I placed an order online due to having limited time for my lunch break. Online confirmation stated that my order would be ready in 30 minutes. When I arrived, they didnt have an area to expedite online &/or phone orders. You had to wait in line with customers that hadnt placed orders yet. I had to pay to park & the line was backed up around the restaurant. Sadly, I saw my food sitting on a table. I did stand in the line until I saw how long it was taking for people to place orders. I had to leave. All establishments that accepts online &/or phone orders should have a system where you dont have to stand in the same line as people who have not placed orders yet. I called & cancelled my order with them. However, because they use an outside company for their online orders, I had to also call them to cancel my order. Now I have to wait 3-5 days for my refund. Why couldnt someone just give me my food that was already made & paid for? Poor customer service. I wont ever go there again.

We were driving downtown & wanted to find a good burger. We searched restaurants, chose cuisine & picked hamburgers. Candy s came up so we decided to try it out. As many times as I ve driven down this street I ve never seen this place. Parking isn t the easiest, but what parking downtown is? The woman at the register that took our order was friendly & told us we order, go find a table & then they will bring our food out to us. Meanwhile, we enjoyed the atmosphere. They have an old radio as the cash register table, a bunch of memorabilia on the walls & 80 s tunes playing. When all the food came out we realized we ordered too much. Their basket of fries & rings are bigger than other places. We got the double cheeseburger & the Roy L Rogers burger, which was filled with much more bacon than I expected (had to be at least 6 slices of bacon on it) so I ended up sharing some of it. The burger really hit the spot! Good burgers, fresh basket of hot fries & a basket of onion rings, who could ask for a better lunch. Everything was delicious!

I have a preference over smaller but thicker patties while this was thin and spread out like in smash burgers. It was well-seasoned and the dressing was not overpowering. My husband and I had to go downtown to run an errand and by the time we were done we were thinking of going to eat somewhere near our house on the north side. I m so glad I got on yelp to look for a place near us. I got a bacon cheese burger and he got a chicken fried steak. The food was SO good. Had lunch yesterday at candys. I was at courthouse for jury duty. Delicious. They were on it too! Fast, and prompt. Highly recommend. Really good. Glad I chose this place too eat Cashier was very sweet and handled her job , flawlessly. Good job candys.

This little place is really awesome it has lots of stuff from the good old days hanging around on shelves and the walls. The food is really great. I had the BLT with onion rings. I took a pork chop plate and a bbq bacon cheeseburger with fries The pork chops included a side salad and fries. It was delicious and so amazing. The service is amazing and the people are really awesome. The food was ready in a matter of minutes. I will absolutely be going back more often now that I have found this place.

Excellent diner style food downtown! Hard finding a good place to eat downtown. Burger so good I need a nap at this point! The bacon was crispy, and the fries had this seasoning on it that was really tasty! Get the roy Rogers with Tater tots!

Ive gone to this place several times before as well as the group Im with across the street at the courthouse. I have always been satisfied with what Ive ordered. They do have wonderful burgers and other menu items that are just as good as their burgers. I would gladly give them a five star because of their food is worth it. The only reason for the four stars is because they dont have enough venting to clear out the smell of the cooking burgers. It can give me a headache and thats just a personal thing. Other than that thats just a thing I can brush off. But please stop by they are a wonderful little joint.

Candys was super close to my hotel and I decided to give it a try for lunch. The burger was great and the onion rings were some of the best Ive had in a long time texture and taste both very very good. It seems to be a local favorite, ~5 minutes after taking the picture of the empty lobby, it got swarmed by hungry workers there was nowhere to sit. Glad I got in early, recommend and will definitely come back!

Candys never disappoints. Always good, fresh and made to order comfort food with great service & the smile to go with it. You can tell that its all family there because it comes through and you can sense it. You can take my word for it, but Candys is a true downtown gem you want to try for yourself. Menus available online, so you can always figure out what to order when you get there. (Pro Tip: you cant go wrong with the Roy L Rogers burger. ) Lunchtime from 1130 to about 130 is super-busy with customers from the county courthouse. And while seating might be tricky, its well worth the wait. Ordering online to go or for delivery is also available.

This spot has been a staple in my work life since I can remember. Working at the Courthouse your options are very limited, but Candys always delivered. Burgers are huge and they make them just the way you want them. I was on a special diet and they special made lettuce wrapped burgers for me! The staff are amazing and treat you like family. I miss this spot since I no longer work downtown. Highly recommend!!!

Had lunch there with a coworker (we are new to the area). We ordered a salad, a cheeseburger (the days special) and tots, two drinks. This is one of those hole in the wall small places. It is cramped (not a good thing during a pandemic), full of construction workers (not good or bad, theres a lot of construction going on in the area), very low tech. We loved it :D I had the burger special of the day, my friend had the salad. The staff is really efficient and courteous. This place has that mom and pop family place feel, in a good way. They have a low tech system that works really well for them. We sat as isolated as we could, considering it was lunch time, and kept our masks on until we started eating. This little place is a welcome lunch spot. Most of the food businesses in the area are gone. I hope Candys sticks around for a long time!

Candies is awesome. The burgers are so good. But you have to eat them there. If you take it to go the bread get soggy because of the steam. Tater tots are super crunchy and delicious. The chicken tenders are also very good and the cobb salads are phenomenal. Staff (Birdie and mom n dad) are very friendly. Very nice people. If youre looking for a good burger I definitely highly recommend go get one at Candys. You will not be disappointed I promise you.
