My mom recently passed away and though she had a will, she did not have a trust or transfer on death deed (TODD) to pass on her house. So I one I was headed for the dreaded P, (probate). Like most would we were expecting a long drawn out and expensive probate process. So under the stress of loss coupled with the unknown complexities of what we were about to get into, we searched for a good attorney in the Dallas area and quickly got an appointment with Audra Apke with Shutt Law Firm. Like most people, we were expecting the worst as we d read that to just get to a judge to be officially named the Executor per the will, it might take several months during which time I couldn t put her house up for sale. We live in a different county so the prospect of protecting/maintaining an empty house far away was daunting. Audra asked us several questions about my mom s financial and real assets and presented me with two options: normal probate with Letters Testamentary (the typical several month path) or an Affidavit of Heirship route, which could be executed relatively quickly. She clearly laid out the pros and cons of each path. After she did, it became obvious the AoH would be the best route for my mom s real property. Her financial assets already had beneficiaries named so no probate of any kind was necessary. Within two months of my mom s passing, we were able to put her house up for sale and sold it. Absolutely amazing!! Audra did an outstanding job clearly laying out the concerns for each party making it a very easy decision to go the path we did. Oh and BTW, realizing our own estate had no transfer mechanism for our house (like a trust or a TODD), even though we lived on a different county in Texas, Audra prepared and got recorded in our county, a TODD for our house so our kids will not have to go through a complex legal process as they try to grieve our passing. That Google search to find Shutt Law Firm and the appointment with Audra was the brightest shining light in a process that could have taken months!! Audra is extremely easy to talk to, listens very well and clearly has the clients best interest in mind. She reduced a complex legal process to something very understandable. She made us very comfortable with our decision, and the quick sale of the house was proof her recommendation was correct! If I could give Shutt Law Firm and Audra 6 stars, I would. Without hesitation, I recommend them!!

My extensive research about estate planning taught me a lot about writing a last will and testament in Texas. When the Shutt attorneys discussed their draft of my LW&T with me, I could tell by their answers to my questions that they were knowledgeable about the smallest, subtlest details. Their explanations taught me much about the realities of probate and the terms of art behind the formal laws. Their model LW&T was comprehensive, succinct and superior to the best LW&Ts that had been written by the best lawyers in Texas and available in the public probate court records. Scheduling my first consultation was ok but seems like their office was unorganized as I was getting messages text/voicemail from two different individuals about setting up time to speak with an attorney after I already confirmed one meeting (that should have been a red flag). My family and I spoke with Ms. Taylor (May 30th). She was very helpful, informative and answered all my questions. I was told I would get an email following our call. Unfortunately, I never received it. I sent a follow up email a couple of weeks later (June 12th) and I have not received a response to date (June 25th). Its unfortunate because the rate that was quoted seemed ok. Definitely not a good look for a law firm that would be handling personal matters. Now I have to continue my research for another law firm specializing in estate planning.

I made an initial consultation with Isaac since my husband and I needed Wills & medical directives. He listened well and took down everything we wanted. I also needed a name change for my Partnership & LLC due to marriage which he said would be no problem. Isaac gave me a quote for the Wills for both of us along with an estimate for the paperwork needed to change the name. The quote for the name change was based on different considerations which I understood and was thrilled that he literally only charged me for the filing fee with the State of Texas since it was such a simple form to fill out for both the Partnership and LLC. Trevor ended up taking over for when we went in to sign the Wills, etc and he did an awesome job going over everything about the medical directives and the Wills so that we understood every aspect of it all. When family changes finally spurred me to create a will, I was lucky to find Isaac. He spent several hours walking me through all the parts of my estate to make sure everything was covered. He also had very good suggestions about how to create a trust for part of the estate to ensure an ongoing income stream for someone not ready to handle the financial intricacies of real estate and the stock market. After my mother passed away, he was extremely helpful in shepherding her estate through probate, despite a rather unorthodox will. More recently, when I discovered I had a health issue that could possibly incapacitate me, he was very helpful in updating my living will and medical directives as well as accounting for some additional changes in my estate. I have never felt rushed during our meetings, and he has always confirmed his understanding of my wishes, and also made sure I understand the legal requirements and opportunities. Writing this review is very unfortunate, because we really wanted to like Mr. Shutt and his firm. Losing a loved one is tough enough; having to deal with such a disingenuous attorney who wastes such precious time and energy, makes matters so much worse. The good: Mr. Shutt was respectful and diligent in working to get all of our initial questions answered prior to engagement with his firm. We appreciated this so much. The bad: Beyond the travesty of pretending to care about our matter, Mr. Shutts retainer agreement is a farce. Specifically, with regard to his suggestions that a potential client can and should object to any portions that they do not agree to, Mr. Shutt also refuses to amend his retainer agreement in any way. How is it, therefore, possible to advise him of any potential disagreement(s) of terms and to propose an agreeable change/ amendment if, Mr. Shutt also refuses to ever adapt his retainer agreement in any way? As weve discussed with you several times to-date, we do not accept alterations to our engagement agreement by potential clients. -Isaac Shutt We believe it is highly prejudicial, unethical, immoral, and actionable for Mr. Shutt to try to trap potential clients into agreeing to terms to which they wholeheartedly disagree and to use the time spent with them prior to engagement as leverage/ pretext for a forced signature and agreement to their terms. These business practices are abhorrent and will be filed before the TX bar. We do not recommend Mr. Shutt nor do we recommend his firm. Sadly, Mr, Shutt was too much of a _____ to answer our calls and instead had his very sweet admin to take our calls. Adding even more insult to injury. Bottom Line: Please see excerpts from his standard retainer agreement; please read carefully before considering him or his firm: Your engagement agreement specifically states: 6. My parents asked me to find an attorney to update their estate planning documents, so we scheduled a 30-min consultation with Ana. After speaking with my mom, it turned out that many of her original documents were outdated and did not meet their current needs. We landed on re-drafting their pour-over wills and their powers of attorney and adding amendments to their existing revocable trust to include a Special Needs trust for a disabled family member, which protects her current benefits. In addition, there were other documents that are standard (Physicians Directive and Disposition of Remains) that I was able to bring in and have her and her colleagues witness - saving us even more money. My father is 90 years old and hard of hearing so she had to repeat herself sometimes but she was so patient with him and my mom - using language they could understand and never rushing them. Due to this, our appointment lasted a lot longer than she anticipated but she stayed late on a Friday in order to make sure they were completely taken care of. My parents loved her and we intend to send all our family members to her from now so that she can handle all their estate planning needs. She was more than fair in her pricing and her services and time were worth every penny and more. Professional, courteous, friendly, respectful - just everything you want in an attorney.

I was so pleased with Ana Pace today. I dont usually write business reviews, but I phoned the Shutt Law Firm late this afternoon, since I wanted a consult with a probate attorney (and the Shutt Law Firm had numerous positive reviews already). I had several questions the probate process and whether I needed to retain an attorney. I was surprised that anyone even answered the phone, since it was very late in the afternoon. However, Ana Pace not only answered all my questions, but actually explained everything that I had questions about in a way that I clearly understood what she was explaining. My mother passed away in January 2021 and I was in need of a lawyer to probate her will. I did not know where the will would need to be probated since she had just moved to the Dallas area. I reached out to Shutt Law firm for help and Ana Hernandez-Pace stated that she could help. She was able to explain everything and help me understand what steps were needed and what would be involved. She filled out all of the necessary paperwork and filed the will for probate. Ana at the Shutt Law Firm helped my family with estate planning for my grandfather. He is nearly deaf and has been home bound for some time, so we knew that communication would be a challenge, especially considering the pandemic. However, Ana went above and beyond what we expected of her. She was able to make a home visit with him. She wore a mask and maintained proper social distance per CDC guidelines. Mr. Shutt is a good hearted, wonderful person and I would recommend him to anyone. I needed him to help me with a pretty depressing issue where I thought my brother and I were left out of my mothers will. This was more about hurt feelings than anything else since she really does not have much money at all but I just had to know where I stood. We had not been close for several years and my step brothers were. There was even a trust set up in my stepfathers name with one of them as executor. Mr. Shutt scheduled my appointment and once he looked over the paperwork he announced that she left everything to me. Shutt Law Firm has been a major blessing to my family. Dealing with life s most difficult issue, death, Mr. Shutt and his team were there every step of the way. One thing I really appreciated was his willingness to explain the process, answer my questions and never made me feel rushed or like I was asking a dumb question. At the beginning of June this year (2018), I entered in agreement with Shutt Law Firm to probate a Will. Shutt was selected based on their clients outstanding reviews. It is so hard to find honest people in this world, much less an attorney. Issac and Peter handled my mother-in-laws probate case as well as a real estate issue with extenuating circumstances. I appreciated their honesty, transparency and they always give options to save money too. I can be high strung at times but they were both very kind and patient with me and my familys situation with no judgement or the judgement look. I am very pleased with their work. When my father passed away, I dreaded the thought of hiring an attorney. I had no prior experience of working with an attorney. I was worried that the case would be drawn out as long as possible and that I would be nickel and dimed. I can honestly say that Mr. Shutt is the attorney that you are praying for. He successfully got my family power of attorney over my fathers estate in a matter of months, with nothing more that a simple hand written will. My mom unexpectantly passed and I live in another state and finding an lawyer was going to be difficult. I had already consulted with a paralegal and called referral services and I was getting frustrated. I had to make a telephone appointment several days in advance with other lawyers just to discuss my situation. Finally, a family member suggested Mr Shutt so I checked his referrals out via Google. That looked good and I called him and spoke with him directly! He understood, laid out the solution, and gave me a quote based on his understanding. I was VERY pleasantly surprised. He delivered on that initial conversation (e.g. process, rates, and difficulty). I recommend him w/o reservation!
