Fish and chips was great! Chips were freshly cut and seasoned perfectly. Fish was also fresh with a tasty batter. Staff was super friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, road construction directly in front of the establishment makes it a little difficult to enter and exit but dont let this deter you! Well worth the wait. Ill be back soon! Thanks for a 5 Star experience!

The truth is that we went in because of the good ratings that this restaurant has, I think the appearance is that of a run down place and a horror movie restaurant but that is its charm, but I dont know let appearances get carried away since the food is delicious, It is heavy but rich. Apparently it is a family restaurant and preserves the traditional atmosphere of yesteryear. It was an experience, not suitable for small children since the space is small and they would disturb the other diners. You could improve the infrastructure and something else and it would be perfect.

Food was alright. I d come back in a cooler month (came in June) and it was pretty warm inside). Our waitress was nice and all but to be honest it s really unprofessional (and unappetizing to diners) to come to work with hickies all over your neck (I mean literally over 10 ). They have makeup to cover that. Other than those two things it s a cute little niche type of place with alright food, would give it another try.

Liked the British items on the menu. Stopped in on a cold Saturday for late lunch and had Fish and chips, mrs. Had the all day British breakfast. It was all pretty good. But more interesting we were provided a free cup of soup to heat us up while we were waiting, how good is that? Service was excellent, food was good and prices are very reasonable. You can tell these folks are trying their best on a limited budget, so go support them as a local restaurant as best you can.

Finished everything with some Ricotta, lemon and pear pie. Subtle sweetness, hints of lemon zest. Cant wait to come back.

I cant say enough good things about how great the service is every time I come. They make you feel at home! The first time we went, probably later 2021, was for breakfast on a Saturday. My son wanted pancakes and they didnt disappoint. In fact, he said its the only pancake he likes better than the ones his grandpa makes for him. I was the difficult one cause after looking at the menu, even though it was before 9 AM, I really felt a craving for fish and chips. They made it for me without any question and it was absolutely delicious. I was also curious, as fish and chips was my extent of knowledge of British food, as to what a scotch egg tasted like. Even though its not a side or appetizer (which it certainly should be now that I think about it), they made me just one so I could get what I wanted to try and it was amazing. Since then, my son has made me take him back multiple times for his pancake, eggs and bacon..... And each time I get the amazing fish and chips. In fact, I think my boy and I are about due for another visit very soon! Kid-friendliness: They have always been great with my son. Hes the type with a million questions and the staff have always been so accommodating with each thing he asked about. Great staff and owners!

First time here yesterday. It was AMAZING! I am picky about my eggs. They were cooked to perfection. I love that they use real butter. The breakfast potatoes are another thing I am picky about. They were also perfectly cooked. I guess I am picky about everything I had, and it was all really great! The sausage flavor was good. They cooked it so that it was cooked all the way through, and yet it was not dry or overcooked. The service was great. Tables are a bit close together, but I like that because I am a social person and ended up meeting a nice gentleman who is new to our area. Its a homey and comfortable, cozy feeling. Oh! And the coffee was hot. If inhav3 a choice between cooking my own eggs and going to Pengus Place, I will choose Pengus. They cook them better than I do.

Friday evening and I wanted something unique. Pengus Place is that. An eclectic mix of British and American cuisines served in an intimate setting. I started with a potato soup and side salad that was delicious. My appetizer of fried mushrooms was big enough to share, unfortunately I was alone. The main entrée was steak and mushroom pie. The flaky crust was heavenly. The was plenty of steak blended with sauté mushrooms. I didnt have room for dessert but I got a Black Forest turnover that I cant wait to dive into. Now that I know they are here I will be back often.

Im rather puzzled by our experience. Arriving later in the day, we aimed to grab breakfast, as the menu indicated availability until 12. Around 11:50, we selected our desired items, only to be informed that breakfast service concludes at noon. This left us baffled since it wasnt yet noon. Our intention was to order two simple meals of biscuits and gravy. The situation of being unable to order has left me quite bewildered. Thus, my review is centered around the available information, including a parking area with notably deep potholes. For those with a Tesla, Id advise against navigating these pits; a sturdier vehicle like a truck might be more suitable. As for the restaurant, it appeared to require significant repairs and showed signs of neglect. While I cannot speak for the quality of the food, that aspect remains unknown to us.

Im really just confused. We went here later on on the day and we were looking for breakfast. The menu says breakfast is available until 12. We quickly found what we wanted and tried to order around 11:50 to be told breakfast ends at noon. It wasnt noon yet? We wanted two bery simple meals of biscuits and gravy. Just really confused on why we couldnt order. So my review is based on what info I have - a parking lot that has steep holes. We have a Tesla and I would not recommend running a car through there. Bring a truck. Restaurant was in need of serious repairs and is run down. Food may be great, but we wouldnt know!

The food was great! For those who expect heavy seasoning on food, this is not your place. This is, however, what is expected from British food. My 4 star rating comes from atmosphere and service. The building is very hot and crowded. Luckily it wasnt busy so we didnt mind. Service was not bad just slow for it not being busy. The waitress was nice. Kid-friendliness: We brought our two kids. They loved it. It was hot for the little one though.

I wish I came sooner! The food is just fresh homemade deliciousness on a plate! We did the fried zucchini & mushroom appetizer to start, you can tell they batter it themselves (which immediately earned 5 stars for me just there) they were piping hot and they use mostly whole mushrooms and thick/long zucchini sticks (hallelujah). I got the lamb curry with extra spice, flavors were strong and on point and my mom had the authentic Shepards pie and just about melted from the first bite. So much food we had to take most of our entrees home and I CANT WAIT to eat my leftovers! Everything was so fresh and homey, we re going back asap for the Sunday Yorkshire pudding, my moms been looking for it fresh FOREVER and we finally found it! The service was just as wonderful, very attentive, asked us if we had any questions and told us about Pengus history, all in all I ll definitely be back A LOT.

The food was ok. Everytime that we asked the waitress for something, like a straw or lemon for the ice tea she would say, I only have two hands. Whatever happened to anticipating the needs of your diners, asking if they would like lemon with their ice tea while youre taking their order and anticipating the fact that they may want to use a straw for their drinks. Oh, and maybe using a tray to bring everything instead of having to make multiple trips back and forth to the kitchen. Im all about getting my steps in but...just saying.

We were there for lunch today. 2 of us had fish and chips. The fish had a smell that was almost rancid. I don t know if they put vinegar in their batter, but that is what it taste like. One of us had chicken strips and she couldn t eat them, as they tasted like fish. I am assuming they cooked the chicken and fish in the same oil. The fries were limp and not crispy at all: my husband had the chicken fried steak, and he said it was not good at all! Very disappointed, as this was our first time there.

Two people in our group were from Scotland and were excited for some food from the uk and my family is from England so I was also excited for the food. It took forever to come and when it did, it came to each family at a time. There were 3 total families so when last was served, the first was ready to leave. The food overall was greasy and underflavored. They tried to explain but it was too little to late, we wont be back....

I was really looking forward to visiting here and enjoying a Sunday Roast as a taste of home despite some unfavorable reviews of late. Unfortunately my experience was also a poor one. Our waitress seemed very flustered and asked that we chose somewhere to sit as they were already very busy despite there being multiple empty tables and maybe a total of 13 people. We were served our drinks promptly but after that ignored as we came to realize that the kitchen was really struggling. A table of around 7 had people emptying their plates as new food was brought out for others, while some complained of missing items. The waitress also mentioned aloud that one party had already left without eating due to the wait. Overall a very bizarre experience that I haven t witnessed at any other establishment. We paid for our drinks and left. I would suggest that if 12 people is already stretching you too far, perhaps remove some tables for the future. Overall very disappointed and won t be retuning.

Previously loved this restaurant and cleared my plate every time. Pengus recently sold this cafe and unfortunately it s taken a very fast drop I ordered the Belly Bustin British Breakfast . The mushrooms were SOLID.. like hard, overcooked pellets Fried Bread was soggy and soft, eggs were overcooked. We also bought sausage rolls. Pastry was good, actual filling was like mushy, tasteless and very unpleasant. My wife ordered the Bangers and Mash, which was actually very good. The rest of the table, however, left still hungry and feeling relatively sick and disappointed after the food they received. Response to Owner: We came in on Father s Day and the waitress explained how the cafe had been sold by Pengus recently to another English man and that Pengus cooks some Sunday s. Honestly, I really loved this place and was disappointed to not only see the prices increase but the quality take a big dip. Perhaps it was an off day, and I hope it was. Wishing you all the best but unfortunately we will not be returning. Update to Owner Update: Ok, typically I d leave it but it s just a lie at this point. A brief bit of googling quickly shows that yes, the prices have increased as I previously mentioned. To name a few: Scotch Eggs: Previous: $9.00 Current: $13.50 Stuffed Crab Shells: Previous: $7.50 Current: $11.00 Fish and Chips: Previous: $12.50 Current: $14.50 Kebab: Previous: $8.50 Current: $11.50 I understand economy changes and produce price increases but just be honest about things instead of the backhanded apologies and snarky responses.

I had to leave a review because I am so very confused about the high rating. Everything we ordered had zero seasoning, not even salt. The first thing I grabbed were the fries because I was hungry and it had no taste, then I thought maybe they forgot to add salt but no, everything had no taste. The British breakfast was sloppy and burnt so there was that flavor, with beans that came right out of the can, Shepherd s pie was super greasy with no flavor, and the fish and chips had thick pieces of fish but only tasted like grease and the fries were a combination of thick wedges and some other coated/battered fries at the bottom that looked like leftovers. And like another review said the mashed potatoes tasted like they just poured water on dry potato flakes, nothing else. The lack of any flavor or seasoning made us wonder, perhaps the British experience is supposed to be taking the food home and seasoning it yourself? I dont know, but never again. Not worth the drive or prices, and frankly would not want the food even if it is free. We ended up trashing everything after attempting to season it. Never have we ever had such flavorless and greasy food, it s very confusing. The lady there was nice, so maybe the positive reviews are based on her. Sorry but this place wasn t it. Total waste of money. UPDATE: Response to Owners reply I know what black pudding is and I know burnt food when I see it and taste it. The black pudding was burnt like the toast you see next to it was too. Instead of being defensive with your smart comments, and blaming me for not eating my TO GO order on the spot so I could voice my opinion as you put it, keep my refund you re offering and take it to the store and invest in some seasonings.

The place is rustic but gorgeous, and the simplicity of the food makes it delectable. Theres great British food to try on every visit! Another delicious discovery at Pengus s Place: Fish and Chips! The fish is very tasty and perfectly moist, while the outer layer is crisp and golden. I drizzled the fish with malt vinegar, then I found that dipping it is even better. Thanks!

Having lived in the UK, the fish & chips were a good try, freshly cooked and attractive presentation. To get closer, if not on point, the fillets should be sliced just a bit thinner and let them come to room temperature prior to batter & fry - this sticks the coating closer to the fish and prevents it from delivering watery bites. Also, chips are closer to steak fries here, and crisp. Overall, 7/10 for the F&C, and Ill definitely be back to try out some more of my favorite Brit food not readily available here in Texas - good job folks!

We were a group of 3. At the hour we went wasnt busy. We ordered sausage and gravy biscuits to share. That was absolutely yummy, I definitely enjoyed that. For my main dish I got sausage, bacon and egg burger but there wasnt a burger? But it was still good and you can never go wrong with tots. My boyfriend got the British breakfast which came with beans, fried toast, blood sausage and eggs. He enjoyed his dish. My friend for a typical breakfast eggs, sausages, bacon and instead of home fries she did the tots as well. We would definitely come back again.

Food is very good! Portions are great. You dont leave hungry!! Please go and eat there. When they make their food, they make it with love and it is so good. Theyre a small place with an even bigger heart for the food that they prepare and serve. If you have ever wanted to eat, what I think is the best U.K. food without having to buy a plane ticket to go across the pond... Then, please go and eat at PANGUSES PLACE...

This place popped up on Google maps while the hubby and I were mapping the route to our hotel for a wedding in Magnolia. Had to be out at 11am, and I was really hungry for breakfast... a BIG breakfast! Penguss did not disappoint. The owners were very nice, and we all had a laugh because they could tell we were newbies as we could not figure out how to get into the lot!! Our server was awesome, friendly, and informative about the food.Hubby had eggs, sausage and chips (chips were perfect!), but I just HAD to have the Belly Bustin British Breakfast. A true proper English fry-up, to be sure!! Eggs were perfectly over-easy, bacon and sausage were awesome, black pudding was great (first time trying that, and Im no longer wary of it... the server said its a mindset, and hes right!), and the baked beans... omg! Ill be buying British Heinz from now on!! Who needs all that sugary stuff?! Cute place, too! We were able to name all the penguins in the picture frame above our table... LOVED Lemmy Kilmister and who we believe to be Graham Chapmans King Arthur! Wonderful place to talk to people, great service, and awesome food! Hope we get back up that way again... REAL SOON! Thank you all for a fantastic experience

Second visit to Pengus today, first was fantastic with the steak pie dinner and wife loved the scotch eggs. Had to go back again to try their roast dinner and it certainly did not disappoint, definitely one of the best roasts I have had including the ones back in England! The portions are hearty and the prices are excellent, I literally cannot recommend this place enough for Brits and Americans, definitely my new favorite place to go eat!!!

If only they had English beer! If chef Pengus McPengus added beer to his menu, I might buy a home within walking distance. Sure, the fish and chips are good but the shepherds pie is even better, and the steak pie is superb. And it s pastry was among the best we ve ever had. Not easy to access (slow down and be patient) and service isn t fast, but WELL worth the wait. There s no better Brit food anywhere around here.

Updated: you dont have to go to the Atlantic for fresh fish. There were no bits with our order. I can make fresh fries that are not soaked in grease. No I did not have a great British experience. I am married into a British family and not at all a good experience. I had the fish and chips. EXTREMELY greasy fries. Some fish was crunchy, some was greasy as well. Pretty pricey for 2 pieces of fish and a very small amount of greasy fries. And Im pretty sure the fish is frozen. Not impressed.

Now that s a fish! The LARGE fish and chips is not on the menu for $16+, only the regular ($12+) is on the menu. It did deliver as it was a thick cod filet. It had a good crispy beer-batter. We have mozzarella sticks for an appetizer. Didn t like that breading as much, but the marinara sauce was good. Steak and mushroom pie was tender. For my taste, it was under seasoned. For sides we had mushy peas and mashed potatoes. The peas looked fresh and lacked seasoning, again. The mashed potatoes were ok, but could ve stood a bit more salt. This place is hidden along the way, so if you re not looking for it, you might miss its humble presence. Pro-tip BYOB. Restroom is separate from restaurant. You can smoke outside. However, the odor seeps inside which was a huge turn off for me.
