On August 25, my family and I dined at On the Border for lunch, and the experience was truly exceptional. Although I wish they had a happy hour on weekends for drinks, everything else was flawless. Nelson, our server, brought an infectious energy and humor to the table, ensuring we were all entertained and laughing throughout our meal. The entire staff went above and beyond, with everyone from the servers to the host checking in on us and offering warm, genuine hospitality. The host greeted us with a beaming smile as we walked in, setting a positive tone for our visit. We enjoyed the Ultimate Fajitas and Watermelon Margaritas, and it was clear that this On the Border delivers authentic Tex-Mex with flair. Highly recommended

I have no shortage of Mexican, South American and Tex Mex restaurants to dine at in Irving, but what really stands out to me in my recent visits to On The Border on Beltline & Hwy 183 is the service. Specifically a bartender named Maria, who I ve been fortunate enough to have serve me on 3 recent visits. I have no need for alcohol, and I consider it Providence that my first visit to this restaurant in nearly a decade was late, and the bar was my only seating option. I almost left; however, the kindness, professionalism and above all the fact that my request for tea at the bar did not change Maria s attitude, attention nor diligence in providing me exceptional service, helping me make an entree selection, I went with The Ranchiladas with an order of the Firecracker Stuffed Jalapeños my first visit (I rarely order appetizers) (**Thanks Maria!!). Since then I ve been back twice in the last few months and received the same bright, smiling and inviting service from my new favorite bartender (not bad considering again, I don t drink!!). The Birria Quesa Tacos are delicious! Same with the Mexican Grilled Chilled Chicken and Empanadas are solid. Above all, thanks to the staff and management for running a tight ship, if I m fortunate enough to cross paths with her a fourth time I ll definitely ask Maria her schedule, as I likely would have missed out on all this great food and experience had it not been for her service and genuine authenticity. Hostess seated my daughter and me at a booth with a ripped seat. The tucking was showing. I felt outraged at the discrimination of the hostess. Horrible service and waiters. My family and I were sat down by the host and we waited 20 minutes for our server to attend us. Meanwhile everyone around us were attended and they arrived AFTER us. I asked multiple servers if they could take our order as we ve been waiting for 20 minutes and still nothing. Food not good in my experience tortillas came with fajitas were soggy and some broken.Returned 2 , replaced and same story again with broken but not soggy this time. Chips not cooked properly. We had a horrible experience with this location over a year ago. By Coincidence that experience was recently brought up to current management. Cat Kelly was so amazing! She went out her way to make it right! The Incident we encountered did not happen during her time as the manager but STILL felt obligated to try and fix it! Our intention was NOT to get something out of talking about it but she blessed us with dinner one night and it was SO GOOD! If you had a bad experience with previous management I strongly suggest you give it another try! Whatever you do do not order them through Uber eats. I ordered some queso and some Birria tacos and the tacos were old and still like theyve been sitting all day, the side shes every sales for $1.99 was literally a tablespoon of heart dehydrated cheese that was completely uneditable because it was hard like hes been sitting in the pot all day, the refried beans had a good taste but they were definitely cold almost like they were fresh out of the refrigerator and I had to reheat them, and the rice was good but the rights of the side dish so why is that better than tacos and the cheese? We went here for dinner. I had received coupons in the mail, because the sent me burnt food on a order from Uber eats. The food was not very good. Something has changed with this place. The soup was not very warm. Previous visits the soup was amazing. The tortillas were cold. The queso tasted and look like it was leftover. This will be the last time here at this location in Irving. I watched one of the workers make tortillas with no gloves on and later watched her scratching her head. For the record not only did she not have gloves on I never seen her wash her hands. Not my server that I had for the evening. Our server had gloves on when he was making tortillas. Food was over cooked and my date asked for no onions and it had onions. Someone asks for no items it could be because they have an allergy or just dont like the taste or texture. They would not think it was no big deal if someone has a reaction and have to call 911. Just saying pay attention and listen. It made a difference on his tip.

I placed a large catering order for pick up on 12/13/23 for the very first time. Ordering, pick up and communication was flawless, but we did have a couple of snags with missing items. I called the restaurant directly and managers, Arturo and Lance (I believe), went above and beyond to correct the order, by replacing items and more. Food was great, amazing vegetarian/vegan options, amount was perfect and it was a hit at our Company Luncheon. We will keep OTB Irving on the top of our catering list as their service and food was top notch. Thanks so much!! Certainly!I recently dined at On The Border in Bedford, Irving, and it was a delightful experience. The chicken fajitas were flavorful, the fish tacos offered a tasty twist, and the chips with salsa were a perfect start. DO NOT WALK!!!!!!!! RUN!!!!!! Run far away from this place. My husband and I were sitting waiting for our lunch and as soon as the waitress comes to sit the plate on the table, a roach crawls from behind the napkins that were on the table. I could not snap a picture quick enough. Before I got my bag and phone, the roach was gone. The waitress had an embarrassed look on her face as she seen everything unfold before her eyes. I just darted out the door so quick. Needless to say, I will not be returning.

Came in at 12:40pm on a Saturday. There was only one table and maybe 6 people in the bar area. No servers, bartenders or wait staff to be found. We waited up front for over two minutes with no help and turned around and left. What s really sad is we chose On the Border over El Fenix for lunch and this isn t the first time this has happened. This location is always slow and I think I realize why. Walked into El Fenix and we were greeted immediately by a happy face and were seated within 30 seconds.

Tonight my husband and I showed up to try their delicious food thats weve only ever tried via delivery services. It was a Sunday evening, pretty empty in there. Fine by us, we go in and the server (dont know her name, black woman about 20s or 30s, braids) has us sit down. No smile, no anything, literally bare minimum interaction. Fine, the server doesnt have to be super preppy and happy to serve us. So we sit down, and its just more of this. She hovers around us and just kind of stares at us with this blank/somewhat annoyed expression that were even there, even though were 2 of like 6 people there at the moment. Its mad awkward, so we decide to leave. We havent touched any of the appetizers she set in front of us, so we get up. My husband says were gonna go somewhere else, and she looks at us with this almost offended expression and goes ok....? So we leave. Yeah it was mad awkward, and it was not it. So, unfortunately, were not coming back. I rarely complain, but yeah, the server is not really supposed to he the one to ruin your eating out experiences, I believe.

The manager did get in touch to try to remedy the situation, I appreciate that. I do have my card now and Im glad for that. I am going to update my review because I realize that reviews are here to shed light on certain situations that may not otherwise be known, but they should not tarnish a business indefinitely. This location can use some improvement, but I think they are working on their way to being great. Previous Review: Service is horrendous. This review is for two separate visits, with the same awful service and incompetent staff. We ordered to-go food the previous day and the to-go guy (never got his name, but he s the brainiac in the lime green shirt that has zero personality and no sense) kept the cc so I had to go back. The previous visit had been to pick up 2 large quesos and 1 large guac. The to-go guy brought the order with two bags of chips. Really? 3 large bowls of dips and two bags of chips. I m pretty sure each large dip gets its own bag of chips. When asked about this, his response was, not necessarily . So basically he was too lazy to put together the order correctly. I asked him to get the third bag of chips and he did. It was during this time that he somehow kept my cc. Today, I walked in and waited 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge me at the door and they did not, so I proceeded to the bar because the bartender was present and not busy. Lets be clear, the place was dead, one person at the bar and the dining area had very few patrons. I should have walked out to begin with but I needed the card back. After sitting at the bar, it was another 10 minutes before the bartender acknowledged me. I let her know that I was there to pick up my cc and decided to order to-go food. She never took the order. She called someone over to help me, and he (who never introduced himself as the manager) asked if i was ready to order. So I ordered. I waited about 30 minutes for 1 order of chicken fajitas. when the food was brought, I had to remind her about the cc I was there to get. She called her manager over, which happened to be the same guy that took my order. Like, seriously? I told him why I was there and he looked for my card, came back, and said it was not there. I had already called to confirm that it was there. He argued with me about it and I finally gave up. He gave me his card to check back if they found it. I was really annoyed because he talked down to me and treated me like I was stupid. After leaving, I called back, just to make sure that he had asked the to-go guy if he knew where it was, he tried to avoid doing this and brushed me off, but I was insistent. He took my number again and said he would call me back. I was not holding out hope, but, about 5 minutes later, I was SHOCKED to receive a call letting me know that he had my card. Now, I get to waste, yet more time, and try to pick it up again. Currently, I just opened my to-go food and my guacamole is brown and I received a bag of chips without salsa. Yuck. The overall experience has been awful and without some serious changes, I will never recommend this location to anyone.

Did not even have the chance to eat here. We waited soooo long for a host that never came to the front so we could be seated. So many workers walked past us while we were waiting for service. Nobody greeted us or even had to the decency to say someone will be here in a moment or anything. This location is terrible. Farrrr better places i can go outside of on the border. Ordered Carne asada from the location on Beltline. Requested the steak to be cooked medium. I got the first steak and it was cooked well. I called and asked if they would please cook me another steak medium. They cooked another steak and this steak was thinner and as you can see it was cooked well done again. I just gave up because I can t keep running back up there to have them cook another steak. A waste of my $22
