Visiting the Menil Collections is an absolute Must See. The Drawing Institute was pretty much closed while installing a new exhibition, but the Cy Twombly Gallery made up for that disappointment. Remarkable art in a place built for its display spacious and meditative. Thoroughly recommend and it s free admission!

Very unfriendly staff. Not a huge collection. That s not the worst though. Those entrusted with standing watch over the collection are unduly paranoid of children. My kids were constantly being harangued and told to not get close to the artwork. They were no closer than the adults were but because of their age - they are all 11 and up - it was automatically assumed they would touch the artwork. Not like they have a marker or ropes to indicate a safe distance..

Very nice place but they are super strict with phones if you want to take pictures or do anything of that nature do not go to that location because they are big sticklers on certain things that they dont let you know in the beginning but they seem to hound you about throughout the whole experience making you feel extremely uncomfortable and ready to leave I really enjoyed the art but did not enjoy being told by all different employees not to stand in a certain spot or get too close or just bizarre things that Ive never encountered before other than that I had a great time

Dont shout to kids. Be kind. We visited yesterday, and had a very disappointing experience. As my 6-year-old son approached the exhibition-(1st floor), though not too closely, a staff member (an old woman) raised her voice, saying my son not to get closer or touch the exhibits. There was no reason to shout to 6 year old kid. We have been several times here and other exhibitions, and we did not have any related issue before. She apologized for her loud voice immediately after shouting. However, my son was visibly shocked by her yelling and her overall attitude, causing him to freeze in fear. He neither touched nor accessed anything. Please note, when parents come to here for kids, do not make kids mentally feel shocked and fear. Also note, my son followed your rule, and has not even tried to be against your rule.

Opened in 2018, the Menils drawing institute serves as a display gallery for temporary exhibitions of artworks with drawing themes. I visited in May 2023 and enjoyed the two exhibits on display at the time, by Gray Foy and Si Lewen.

A beautiful art campus! In addition to the main collection, make sure you also go to the Cy Twombly gallery, drawing institute, and Rothko Chapel. There is also a bookstore and cafe. I wish we were allowed to take photos because there was an extensive collection of masters of modern art. I suppose because it is free, they want you to buy the art books. The other side contains exhibitions from contemporary artists and African and indigenous art. In this day and age, there ought to be signage to address the colonialism since there is a movement to return this art to the original peoples.

The guy sits at the reception desk who apparently moved from New York not long ago seems JUST WANTS TO SPEND HIS DAY. NOT an asset to the art museum or at any job he could possibly land.

I loved it, and so did my 11-yr-old. We learned about Joseph Yoakum and admired his work that he produced past the age of 71. While we were marvelling at his Yoakum s pieces, one of the museum workers loudly asked me if I spoke Tagalog. You look like a Filipino and you should learn to speak Tagalog. Ma am, we are in a museum so use your art gallery voice, and also why are you harassing me with what you think I should be speaking? Other than that strange encounter, I enjoyed the art. The area just outside of the building with trees and boulders also felt like an art installation in and of itself.
