When this was Summit it was fairly priced, when Movement purchased it from them they raised those prices significantly. Why? In their minds they justify it by giving you access to workout areas, yoga, fitness classes, events, discounts on gear and free guest passes . $80 a month is a very reasonable price for a membership at a gym with top roping, this is why the other Movement gyms in the metroplex which do have top roping walls and all the same additional benefits cost $87 a month. $7 a month less does not account for a lack of top roping and a significantly smaller area than any of their other gyms. Especially when it also doesn t have locker rooms or showers as other locations do. Your membership here would be fairly priced at $57 a month. Basically, if you live in Denton you re getting the short end of the stick. Charging for rental gear to cover the costs of replacing over time would make perfect sense if they weren t already price gouging customers. This is a chain, they can afford gear replacement, they should not be charging for rental gear at this monthly price. They don t pay their employees well, they disqualify applicants from student discounts (which are only $6 a month less anyways) if you aren t taking 12 credit hours, and they don t properly maintain the a/c or gym equipment in the building. They are not, as they claim, reinvesting back into the gym . Where is the money going? They are only able to maintain this charade of $80 being a fair price because they have no competition in Denton. If there was another gym with top roping in the area, Movement would be forced to lower their prices, or go out of business. Movement, please reconsider your price for membership in Denton. What you did to paying Summit customers and any new climbers in Denton is greedy and deplorable and if you work there, you d do the city of Denton a service if you would stop supporting this sham and all quit at the same time. As it stands, you re contributing to an insult and an injustice to this local climbing community.

Gym could be a really neat place. Been climbing here for about 2.5 years now. I was there for the transition between summit and movement. Staff is great, you wont have any issues with staff. Space is really cool and functional for climbing and training, although equipment in the gym workout area is a bit outdated. AC has not been working well before Movement took over and is still not where it needs to be. (They have been sending out emails explaining how they are trying to fix it and what has been broken.) Overall, the price is way too high for what you are getting at this gym. You do have the ability to go to their other gyms in the area, but for the vast majority the other gyms are way to far away to consider for weekly commutes. (Closest is Grapevine 35min drive) Its like a 5 star gym price for a 2 star gym experience. They started charging for rental shoes on top of the higher prices. The guest pass policy is pretty good if you are a member which is nice, but make sure you use it on a weekend at one of their other gyms, this one probably isnt the in to go check out. I wish 2.5 stars was an option for a completely average rating. This space could be so so neat, the community here is awesome, but Movement has made it difficult for the community to want to continue making this place the hub for an awesome climbing experience due to price, AC and policy changes. If you are a seasoned climber, I would recommend one of their other gyms, but youll get a good (and hot) climb here. If you are a brand new climber, I would highly recommend not going to this gym and going to on if their other gyms.

Update to the review with original below: It has been 9 months since the AC broke. It is still broke. The gym sent out an email that theyll be using more fans but that doesnt solve the problem that theyve known about for literal months. They knew Texas summers were coming, that the AC is busted and have yet to fix it. The heat index today is 105 F. Perfect climbing weather for a gym with no AC. Original: Exorbitant prices for a gym that hasnt had working AC for weeks in Texas. Given that staff has said the AC will be fixed next year, I sure hope that the heater doesnt go out this winter. Theyll probably be telling patrons to wear jackets and wait 12 months for it to get fixed while they raise prices again.

Sad to see how far this gym has fallen since getting bought out... A/C being out for so long is unacceptable in the Texas heat, not to mention paying $80 a month for the privilege of climbing in a stuffy building with seemingly little being done to remedy the situation. The staff and climbers of this gym have always been incredible, but it seems management is out to milk their subjects of every dime possible.

i loved my time at summit/movement over the years but since being bought out i can t afford it anymore. i appreciated their old policy with student discounts, but since changing to movement the criteria is so strict and unnecessary and i was denied any sort of student discount since i take 11 hours of classes and not 12. almost $80 a month is just straight up unaffordable and i am sad to have to give up a form of exercise i actually enjoyed because the price raised so drastically. UNT s bouldering wall doesn t compare and i have had bad experiences with very unfriendly climbers there. i at least felt welcomed at movement but between the price and the size of the gym it isn t worth it. it feels crowded a lot of them time and there are often groups of people sitting in front of routes for long periods and can be difficult to try and maneuver if you re just a casual climber. the price also boasts about including gym equipment but there is only ever 1 functional treadmill. i even tried to get a job through movement to be able to still afford to go to the gym because i actually enjoy climbing so much but the pay is not as competitive as they say, even with raised prices, especially considering inflation. what really started turning me away was the fact that they started charging to rent shoes and chalk, EVEN if you have a membership. being able to borrow shoes and chalk and have a more affordable student membership made me and many other college students feel more included in the sport and now it s just not as accessible. sad to have to leave, i feel like i invested so much money buying my own chalk and shoes and paying for so many months of membership, it s unfortunate.

There is a clearly listed rule in the fitness area that children under the age of 13 are not allowed. This rule is regularly broken and not enforced at all. I just watched a young couple allow their child (maybe age 4-5?) climb all over the lifting racks as they biked (with their back to the child) and/or sat on their phone. They even adjusted the safety racks, j-hooks, and bench so she could climb about more. Didn t reset anything when they were done. I m glad she didn t fall. Not sure what the point of the rule is if it isn t enforced. Besides that, I like the gym. I typically climb in the mornings to avoid the crowds. Love the yoga classes offered and the employees are always friendly.

Movement, known best for its rock climbing, also houses weights/treadmills, and yoga classes! I can certainly vouch for the exceptional bouldering experience. Fresh routes weekly! The folx that attend are very welcoming to beginners and experts alike, good attitudes and fun times had by all. If you have a question, the knowledgeable staff is a great resource. Seriously, whether youre stuck on a difficult route or cant remember where the bathroom is, theyre happy to help. For those looking for a less overwhelming times, Id recommend any time but 5-7pm weekdays. Very busy then, but theres still enough space to climb, just a bit overstimulating at those times.

This place was great until it was bought out by movement. 74 dollars a month for a student pass is absolutely insane and unfordable. Since movement is basically the only gym to climb at in DFW, I havent been able to climb since. Clearly, theyre catering to a different, much wealthier community and have left the people who actually care about climbing behind.

There is no AC at this location which is very disheartening considering how much we pay to the membership monthly, also there are no locker rooms or showers like at the movement locations in Dallas!! Considering that they upcharged everyone since they bought out summit locations I thought that they would add some upgrades to the smaller gyms, but I suppose not. I would be proud to pay more monthly if it meant the smaller gyms got more upgrades to provide a better experience for the community. Movement seems to pride itself on providing a luxury climbing experience so when I asked staff about the AC being fixed and they said it would be until NEXT YEAR I was extremely shocked, I love everything movement as a company stands for but since see the takeover and how they have treated the AC issues at this location it makes me wonder how they may be treating employees behind closed doors, I don t want to have distrust in a company that I used to love so much but since this whole AC kerfuffle ( when it gets as hot as 112 in Denton Tx upwards of 3 times a week) it really makes you think. The employees are great and are trying their best to make everyone comfortable despite the heat but offering water and fans is not comparable to a working AC in the heat of Texas. Other members I have talked to seem very upset as well, we Hope cooperate does something soon it is increasingly frustrating.

Great experience, my first month of bouldering. It s been the toughest activity I ve physically have tried (coming for an avid cyclist). Every time I go I see improvements in my climbing. If you ve ever wanted to try a new activity, get some exercise, get out of the house, and be surrounded by a super inviting group of people, try a few climbs and see if this place doesn t fit the bill. Update: 2023: still going, weekly changing of the walls, they could probably find a bigger place with how busy it s getting. Update Nov 2021: still going and getting stronger, it s a great strength building activity, every trip has me sore, and that s usually 20-40 min of climbs, they change up the climbs weekly which helps make every trip exciting.

Filled with friendly faces that have no problem with getting to know someone the denton location has people that want you to grow with them as climbers. Only a block away from denton square its the perfect place to have a great workout for the guilt free feeling of drinks afterwards. A Socially paramount environment in my opinion. Every group of people there will celebrate with you after finally completing that seemingly impossible project youve been working on. I personally have two closer summit gyms to where I live but I make the drive to this specific one for its unmatched energy. If you are looking for a new home gym or are getting into climbing this should be your first and last stop.

The Summit is great! I spent $20 on an all day rock climbing pass. I am a first timer. Before going, I had to sign a waiver. When I arrived, a staff member spent about 20 minutes explaining safety guidelines to me, how to fall, visibility, shoes, etc. I was really struggling to climb, and another staff member noticed and explained the rock color difficulty patterns to me. It was very kind. Then, a younger group of people came in and I talked to them about climbing. They gave me some tips, we exchanged numbers, and I felt very welcome here. I would love to go again after COVID19 concerns are lessened. I had a lot of fun!

Despite the fact that the governor of Texas has stated that those who are medically exempt do not have to wear a mask, this business is requiring that people wear masks despite the fact that they are climbing. They are not checking oxygen levels and are most likely putting people in a depleted oxygen state. Some of their employees are telling potential customers you will be required to wear a mask until a vaccine is available and everyone has taken it. I was assured by an employee that the city of Denton is not imposing this decision upon the owners but they have decided to take this course of action. Hopefully this information will guide those looking for an exercise choice.

It is the best training gym in the DFW area without a doubt. Not only is it great for training which I will go into detail later, the staff are super understanding and friendly (Literally all of them). Liam is setting really difficult routes lately which is nice to see since some of the summit gyms are 1-2 grades easier on every climb. The routes are great for the most part (some compy some outdoory) although some of them are a bit awkward at times. The training area is outstanding they have a decent amount of gym equipment but their climbing specific stuff is awesome. They have pinch blocks and hang boards (bad spot for them though) along with a smooth campus board and a great 2017 moonboard. Not only this but they also have a huge circuit/spray wall with three different angles. If you are trying to get strong it is a must visit. The COVID rules for summit are pretty reasonable too no forced liquid chalk, just a mask and a temp check before you climb.

Such a fun place to boulder. Staff is super helpful and friendly, the general community is nice, and even great just to come in for yoga or core classes if your hands need a break from climbing. Would give more stars if I could

Im always walking around the square and I have never even noticed the place, its such an awesome experience, the people there are so kind and helpful, and when youre done with a set you get that feeling of accomplishment, the yoga helps a lot with the relaxation of muscles after a full day of climbing, and the greatest thing is you can grab a day pass for only $20 plus $5 for gear rental all in all $25 for a day pass that includes obviously climbing, yoga, and core workouts if you want to do it, its awesome, PS, they do birthdays

This is a super fun and cool place. Definitely the bouldering spot to go if youre not into top rope. Walls are a tad high for me but theyre definitely doable. Love coming here and the staff is super nice!!

Great place to go rock climbing indoors. It is smaller than the other Summit gyms (dallas and Carrollton) but it was very clean and friendly staff. There is no rope climbing, only bouldering. Very cool little place.

Definitely one of the best bouldering gyms in Texas. The membership is a little steep, but if you like bouldering its worth it.

I just started a few months ago and I started from the very beginning. Right from the start, the staff were helpful and friendly, from giving me tips on my climbing to helping me pick out the correct shoes. People around the gym are fun to be around and I never go a climb without meeting someone new and learning a little bit from them. Be ready to have your hands blistered and to fall down a lot. Its worth every second.

Fun routes, definitely a challenge and be prepared for your hands to get ripped up. The staff is incredibly friendly and kind- so are many of the members here! I love climbing in this chill and non-judgmental environment. If youre intimidated by rock climbing, this is the perfect place to start

The music is questionable, but the climbing is pretty sick. The staff are nice and keep the place running smoothly. Yoga and core classes are tough, but also fun and rewarding. If you need to, you can buy climbing gear on site. Can get crowded!
