Our Mission “Engage. Explore. Educate.” We believe that children should be able to explore their curiosities in a safe environment. Engaging the community, including the family unit, is imperative in a child’s development. To educate children means more than sending them to school. We want to provide opportunities for children to experience the wonder and excitement of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math through hands-on exhibits, multimedia, and content-rich programs that encourage exploration, engage the learner, and ultimately educate the child. Purpose Our purpose is to provide opportunities for children and their families to learn and play together.

What a great little and very interactive museum. My son always enjoys going to this place, interacting with the stations, sliding down the PVC roller slide, and playing with the train set. He became so enamored with the train set that I had to get him his own for my house in his room. He loves being able to touch and play with all the stations! It is very reasonably priced and pretty clean every time weve gone. I cant wait to take my daughter one of these days too!

They desperately need to better curate this place. Broken exhibits and not much to hold interest. Not a lot of new items (if any) in the past year. Seems a bit unorganized and under managed. Jealous of Austin - they have the Thinkery.

From the reviews, it seemed like an OK place to take an infant/toddler. Personally, Im a huge believer in separating infants from toddlers. There is a tiny section for children under 24 months that has some items like climbing soft blocks, table top toys, etc., but it wasnt anything we didnt already have at home. Everything was super dirty, like black residue dirty, and toys were broken (which laws and regulations require immediate replacement). The staff didnt once clean anything or seem to tidy anything. Hopeful, we explored the play space, and nothing really made sense. It was just a giant play space that seemed like they tried to create play centers, but werent super successful. It gave off the worn-out and dingy vibe, which is super depression. The reading area was a mess, the STEAM station had no greenery, animals in tank had no educational material, and educational items that were not being used were just taking up space. Creative stations seemed really neat but require constant maintenance, and anyone in child care would know this. They had a flight simulator area, which was just old airplane seats. To an aviation family, thats a bit off target. Chicken coop seems like numerous hazards waiting to happen with also broken sections. Changing table in the bathroom was so gross. I would change your kid in the car. Im thankful we went on a free day because I wouldnt pay a dime. It has amazing potential, but it clearly needs someone who is educated in early childhood to really change it around.

Its an OK spot to let your kids run around inside. It was pretty warm. They rearranged a bit to spice things up but it doesnt look like theyve invested in any new toys for awhile. They had several staff members but they didnt seem very productive. I had to grab a chair from a stack to use waiting area. Why wouldnt the staff set that area up? I was carrying a baby and they didnt offer to help grab a chair. We were there for 3 hours and they didnt once grab the items that needed to be sanitized for the toddler area. A few of the hand sanitizer stations were empty/not working. I didn t see them restocking the activity tables either. The staff just hung out at the desk.

We were visiting from out of town and wanted something for my baby to burn off some energy and found this cute place. Very cool idea lots of kids running around seemed to be having fun. They even have a baby area for babies to crawl around with lots of soft toys and blocks. Very cute However . They do not do a great job of keeping the bigger kids (with dirty shoes) out of the crawl area, it s supposed for 24m and younger but lots of big kids were running around in there stepping on the crawl blocks and taking toys out. Alot of the climbing blocks and wood toys were VERY dirty! I m talking layers of dirt when I wiped them down it made it worse dirt was dripping off them turn my wet wipe black! And ALL of the hand sanitizer dispensers were EMPTY! The place felt very dirty like it isn t regularly or recently cleaned and that s upsetting being that it s a kids a zone but on top of that there is no hand sani available there were a ton of dispensers and every single one was bone dry! There were about 3 employees sitting behind the desk just chatting away seemed like they would be free to upkeep the place. It s a shame because it s a very cool space for kids but I would not recommend this place. We spent less than an hour here and I hardly let my daughter play with anything.

I should have read all the reviews before I made a trip here. I came to this childrens museum because on the website that is associated with all children museum they would accept membership from other childrens museum. When I got here and asked about they told me they dont accept it and they dont know why they are even on there because they are privately owned. Also they give military discounts. The place could use a real good cleaning. Sanitizing would be great. There is tremendous build up of dirt that is looks disgusting. Theres a folding stand that is a safety hazard. Few things are out of order. I personally would not recommend this place but we came because their website looked amazing. You pay for what you get.

We ve been here twice for birthday parties so I can not speak to gen pop days but it s a nice space to rent for your party. The whole place to your group, the kids have free reign of all activities and you get a nice space with tables and chairs for your food/gift opening needs. My son enjoyed it at 3 years old as well as 4 years old. Only complaints is that a lot of items are pretty run down and there doesn t seem to be much updating/rotation going on. The axolotl is super adorable.

One of the only free play spaces left in Denton. Like that its one uniform floor so its easy to catch sight of your kid. Great range of activities and lots of crafts, toys and physical play areas to keep kids busy. Sweet spot ages are around 3-6 in terms of being able to engage with all the activities but they have a great area for babies as well. Weekends are pretty busy. Great for birthdays as well.

I ve taken my two kids twice. The first time was awesome because there were only a few kids there and the parents that were there were actively monitoring their own kids. I went again thinking I might be interested in purchasing a membership for the year, but I won t be doing that. This time, there were a ton of kids there and very little parent monitoring. There were kids going up the slide while other kids were trying to go down, big kids (8-12 yr olds) running at full speed while younger (babies-toddlers) were trying to play, and kids pushing other kids to get to activities. I understand that the employees can only do so much, but if parents can t watch their own kids to police their behavior and kids behavior are causing safety issues, they need to be asked to leave. We left after 15 minutes after spending $20 for admission. If we go back, we will wait until a weekday afternoon when older kids aren t there.

This is a place to go if your kids are self motivated. They have activities but you do it by yourself,no guide to take you through stations or to assist in what is really available. You just go around in a big room and do what you want while the mothers of older kids sit on their phone... thats the only downside ( free for all) While parent zones out. Would probably do better if did a group through then let kids settle in a aged area. My opinion.

I have been following the Exploriums progress since 2010! After 8 years away from Denton (and me having access to local childrens museums in other states) I was so excited to visit. I was underwhelmed. Lets talk about downsides: - So hot inside! Do they not have AC in Texas? There were large industrial fans everywhere (with power cords being plugged in INSIDE play spaces that you needed to monitor, to make sure your small child didnt touch it) and fans were so loud! -Staff seemed annoyed at every thing. Their motto is to foster play and explore yadda, yadda. I watched employees show openly that they were annoyed at the play mess that was happening. The staff seems to have been told to pick up after the kids, which I can only imagine is tedious and exhausting. There is nothing to asks kids to clean a station before moving on and this is clearly creating some kind of vibe between staff and the kids that isnt jiving. - Many of the activities arent even kid friendly. (Ex. There is an Operation style game that is too wide for kids to play and they cant climb on it because it wasnt built to support them so its like a giant toy they cant touch. There is a Coop with a slide (thats super unsafe. PVC pipes that roll. How has no one gotten stuck in this yet?) a bridge (railings also unsafe, idk how a kid hasnt fallen off already) and a firemans pole that is 100% not safe for kids under maybe 12. As in there is a 2 foot hole with no railing, warning, anything on the top of the Coop. Just asking for a lawsuit it seems. (You are told by staff to go with your under 4 year old on the structure upon arrival. You are also told to wear shoes as the Coop is made from materials thatll give you splinters. So a play thing not thought through enough to make it play friendly.) Other smaller activities were old, broken, not in the area they were meant to be in. There were also mirrors at the bottom of the Coop that had broken frames and no signage or caution tape to warm kids of sharp edges. - It is one open big space with no structure. There is no path marked out for a childs brain to go This is the path Im exploring and then this what Ill do next its just an open space, ADD, free for all so it takes a while for kiddos to actually see whats in the space. -They are trying to be clever with some pieces but its confusing to kids. There is a Canoe library (a canoe on its side filled with books) and all my kids wanted to do was get in the canoe! Either have the play spaces be 100% play friendly or put the library off to the side with the reading nook! Theres no clear answer for kids, Can I play on everything or is it structured play? Ive worked in several museums with low budget and not a lot of space and they made it work. This seems like a great idea that got tired and now MEH is the theme. This is from my experience with a 6 and 3 year old. I know its not everyones experience. But my takeaway was that it was a neat experience and I had no need to go back. Which is disappointing.

I was excited to visit this place, and it was our big fun plan for the day. We got there and it was very hot inside. There were fans, but they were so loud and rickety that I had to ask the employee to repeat the instructions multiple times. She was practically shouting, and 2 feet from me, but I still only heard half of it. My mom was with us and she immediately left. My son and I tried to stick it out, but after 5 min, I could not handle the noise. Not normal kids noise, thats expected and fun. This was over the top loud from the fans banging on stuff, like loud metal clanging. They offered to turn them off, but then it would likely be stifling hot if they did, and I didnt want to make others suffer. I asked for a refund and they said management was strict about not giving refunds. I just left, very disappointed. It felt like a waste of a trip. We didnt get to explore what they had to offer, which looked like some fun stuff.

We love this place. My only sadness is their hours. Kids get Mondays off school often and it would be nice to be able to come and play! They also arent open past 5pm which is kind of early to close imo. If they were at least open till 6, that would get most families to dinner time. I would rather pay a dollar or two more for my kids vs having to pay for myself. Im not playing, just supervising my kids, so it would make more sense for parents to be free like they used to do at Pennys Playtown.

I cannot say enough good things. We purchased a year membership about one month ago and we have come here at least once a week sometimes twice a week since then. The craft stations that rotate out new crafts each week and the static learning stations have all been a delight for my girls. But my highest praise goes to the staff. They have been most engaging and genuinely interested in teaching and playing with my girls. Though it s not necessary for them to do so they devote one on one time with each of my girls on almost every occasion I m there. They remember their names and make them feel seen and special. This to me, is above and beyond what their job calls for. I love this place and so do my girls!

Had two 7 year olds and a 5 year old. There were activities that would have been fun if they worked and if supervision was better. You definitely need to take wipes and plenty of hand sanitizer. Perfect for a rainy day, just needing something for your little ones to do. My toddlers had an amazing time. Pay one price and stay all day, go eat and come back they give you a stamp. Its really excellent. A personal note we went on veterans day and they made me as a veteran feel very much appreciated in a moment in life when I needed it. Theres a ton of activities, arts and crafts, a roller slide, fireman poll, stop motion machine to make movies, piano, giant operation game, a bunch of giant foam building blocks, a corner for small children and much more. Your kids will be able to stay entertained all day. Bathrooms are family friendly, they also have a lactation room which I cant speak for its quality as I have no business in there but it does exist.

Giant foam blocks, train table, giant operation table, floating balloons and scarves, art stations, big rolly slide, chicken egg drop and pulley, moveable magnetic ball drop maze from a tower, fun house mirrors, Lego wall, magnetic letters board, climbing wall, piano, Magna Tiles on a color changing table, farm market stands with food, big hand-cranked conveyor belt, a stationary carousel horse to sit on, weaving loops, a baby area, and a nursing room with two very comfortable rocking and spinning couch chairs and a changing table. The two family bathrooms are large with changing tables, and there is a filtered water refill station. There are snacks for sale in the lobby by an area with tables, stools, and high chairs to eat food that you brought or bought. Thay also have a room for classes or parties.

Our experience here has been hit-or-miss. On the one hand, our kids always enjoy themselves and explorium has really saved the day a few times when we needed to get out of the house, but the hours are limited (and sometimes they close during their scheduled public hours for private events, which kind of defeats the purpose of having regular hours. They send emails about closures out to people with memberships but if you don t see the email or aren t a member you might end up high and dry with disappointed kids). There always seems to be something that s not really being maintained or followed through on an example from our most recent visit (about a month ago) was the gate into the play area. If I remember right, it used to close automatically, but that function apparently doesn t work anymore. I found myself walking over to close it several times. After the first few I started paying attention to who was leaving it open and it was almost exclusively a particular employee.

Wonderful place for kids to learn and explore! My 2 and 4 year old played non-stop for over 2 hours and were still not ready to go home. All activities were well thought out and planned. Staff was very courteous and helpful. We have been back several times and always find new ways to play.

This place is great! I definitely want to go back with my toddler again. She loved it. We were there for almost 4 hours and she still didnt want to leave. There is so much for little learners to explore, we didnt get to everything. They also have a nursing room with changing tables in all bathrooms (and they even have diapers and tampons free to use!) I am so impressed with the value of this place.

We just had my sons birthday party here, 2/29. He had a blast! The room is large enough to accommodate our friends and family and I love that there is no extra fee for the adults with the birthday package. I was worried it would be too overcrowded on the weekend, but it wasnt! We have visited before with our homeschool group and my son always has fun. It is one of our favorite places to visit!

This is a great birthday party venue! The party rooms are large with enough tables to incorporate lots of friends and family. Theres also a sink and counter space to get cake & goodies gathered in a neat fashion. The only drawback I saw was that its tough to get the kids remotely interested in food, drinks or opening gifts. In fact, we were celebrating two birthdays & both children asked if they could play and open gifts when they got home. That tells me so MUCH! I recommend giving them a shot whether its a function of a means to play & sneak in learning!

There was something for everyone to do, and the parents were equally entertained. Melissa did a great job with the slime activity. Well worth the amount. My daughter is already asking about having her party here next year!!!!

My kids love going to the explorium. We have a membership and try to come almost weekly. I ve come to a point, though, where I will no longer be bringing them in. Almost every single time we come, I experience the same unwelcome feeling from one of the staff. One of the last times we came, I was sitting at one of the craft tables helping my oldest daughter with the project they had going that week. My youngest daughter brought a basket of food to the table to show me and then headed back to play. I didn t realize that she had then put the basket down on the ground and moved on to something else. If I had realized, I would have made her bring it back to the play food area. I know the rules and we try to abide by all of them (namely cleaning up after ourselves), however, it is a children s play place and a little mess should probably be expected. A staff member saw the basket on the floor and walked over to pick it up, saying loudly enough for the whole table to hear, oh for God s sake. Pick up after yourself. I was appalled as were the other parents at the table. There have been other experiences that have left me feeling unwelcome or that kids are an inconvenience but that one stuck out to me. The last experience I had today, though, has solidified my opinion. The staff were decorating for an event that was planned for the following day. They had blown up balloons and put streamers up. Unbeknownst to me, a child (not my own) had taken a balloon from the entrance area into the play area. It was left on the floor, so my daughter started playing with it, which I assumed was fine because it was in the play area. We walked out of the gate to get something and she took the balloon with her. A male staff member saw her playing with it and rolled his eyes saying, uhh we need that back. I told him it was on the floor of the play place so I assumed it was for the kids to play with and he condescendingly said no, some kid took it from the table and grabbed it back from me then promptly put it in the office. I get that it wasn t a toy and that s just fine. The way he made me feel like an idiot, though, was uncalled for. It was just a balloon. Someone with any amount of customer service would have knelt down, smiled politely and asked the child to have the balloon back, and it would have been fine. My daughter didn t understand at all and started crying. We ll happily find another place to play as our membership is up in a couple of months anyway. It s such a great place for kids and I appreciate that most of the staff are young and that it s a non profit. Spending a bit of time on customer service training would go a long way for retaining patrons, though.

My kiddos had a great time at Explorium! The play structure was fantastic, book collection was totally relevent and great, the giant blocks and piano were a huge hit! I did, for the most part, enjoy the visit, but there were a few things I was slightly concerned about and felt like had not been thought through all the way, hence my 4 star review. I loved the animal enclosures, but ended up rushing over to a group of 4 or 5 kiddos with their hands in the fish tank. Those need to be 100% secure if they are going to be in reach of children. The area under the play structure needs a little love. The Lego area was amazing, but my 5 year old son and I didnt spend much time there because we couldnt see well enough to build. More light under there please! I was pretty concerned that my 2 year old was able to possibly rip off the reflective paper. Im shocked its still up with as many kids come though there. A couple of the experiment tables could have been super messy without adult supervision, aka water and dirt all over the floor. We mostly avoided those for that reason. The teepee was very saggy and I was concerned for the structural integrity. Great idea, but use over time has definitely affected it! And lastly, I would suggest a gate at the back entrance. It was slightly unnerving to be at the Lego station for 5 minutes to turn around and see my daughter over at the front door. Overall, it was a great experience for the kids! They had a blast, there were lots of other kids to play with, and its local. Just a few details that should be sorted out. We will be back though!

Explorium is everything you want in a local, indoor, kids play museum and then some. After many years of anticipation, Touch-a-Truck events and community endeavors, the Explorium experience is here in its full glory, I can confidently say the wait was worth it! The building is filled with activities for your child who needs to just run and get out those wiggles with daring (but safe!) slides, a fireman pole and giant building blocks near the Chicken Coop. And dont forget Moona Lisa the pun-filled cow (follow on Insta @moonalisacow) that you can really milk! If youve got a kid who would rather buckle down, focus and make something ridiculously creative, there are at least 6 tables with different self-directed and parent-assisted activities. The options at these tables change often and many have direct educational opportunities attached, though you can be in it just for the fun too! We just finished having a birthday party for my now 6-year-old here at it was a fabulous experience. The party room is spacious and well equipped with a sink, refrigerator, plenty of trashcans and several serving tables. Furthermore, there are three long workspace tables for kiddos to use for an activity of your choice if you pick that party package. The Explorium employee who assisted with our activity was wonderful and engaging for the kids, even those who just really wanted to get back out and play. Membership for an entire family is currently just $95 for unlimited attendance for a whole year which is INSANE and beyond worth it. Yo Denton, patron this place and enjoy all its got to offer!

First let me say, that my children had a blast playing here! I loved that its small enough where I can see just about the whole place while standing in one spot. It makes it easier to keep an eye on the kiddos while they are all running around. There are two reasons why I only gave them 3 stars. The first reason is because I think its a little far fetched that i had to pay for my BABY. Most places you usually start paying when the child is 2 or 3 years old. The second reason is because of the way they treated my nonverbal 2 year old while we were leaving. My 2 year old grabbed fruit snack off of their snack cart (I didnt realize it or I would have made him put it back and apologized). Instead of saying maam he is walking out with a snack they tugged on my sons jacket and ripped the snacks out of his hand. There was just a better way if handling it. They made my son cry, and taking thing in their own hands is not ok.
