Love, love, love this place for quiet walks observing wildlife. Shady parking. There are abundant picnic tables available under the large oaks. A small natural museum and excellent (real) bathrooms are available when the facilities are open. Bring your dog for a walk on their leash. Although there isnt a playground on-site, there are plenty of natural items to climb and play on and around.

Nora in the Education Center is super. The wetlands are beautiful, Merlin app picked up a lot of birdsong around the Education Center & and a teal out on the boardwalk. Speaking of, the boardwalks are in dire need of maintenance. Be careful. Bug box is SO cool. Restroom in Ed Center pristine.

Love the setting. Beautiful place for a long or short hike. They have ponds for fishing and told us in April 2023 they will start night hikes through the area. Great place to take kids and see the nature center. The zoo partners with them to help teach classes also. Toilets: Handicap accessible

Such a fun and lovely place! Unfortunately every time we ve gone the lady inside has been incredibly rude. Other families I ve talked to have unfortunately had the same experience. Children are the future of conservation and to have them kicked out of the building and the door locked is too much. The rounded building has no carpet inside so the smallest sound echoes, even the calmest child would make a lot of noise, going up and down the stairs does sound very loud but the building being designed with zero thought to how sound travels is not our fault and doesn t warrant the response we ve had on numerous occasions.

Great wide path for a nature walk, 2 mile of you walk the bigger loop. No longer a 5 out of 5 because the wetlands have been dry for almost a year because of decreased rain and they dont run the pumps anymore to help keep it wet. It was a great project and I hope they get it back up and running. Great natural habitat for widllife and natural water purification.

A hidden gem in Waco! I enjoy bringing our dog there for walks in the evenings and to find quiet in nature. The Wetlands looks different every season and is a very great place to walk and enjoy nature. There is a lake that is stocked with fish for fishing days throughout the year! They usually provide many of the equipment you need to enjoy trout fishing! Highly recommend going!

Fabulous place to learn about nature s kidneys . They have a beautiful educational room with floor maps and interesting facts on the wall. The wetlands are always well maintained with regular mowing and it s great fun to explore the boardwalks and observe the natural world. They also offer small guided tours. Many dog walkers come to enjoy the space with their leashed companions .

We love this place! There is plenty to explore and it isnt too far outside of town... about 15 minutes. Someone mentioned that a fire had damaged the wetlands. To clarify, it was a prescribed burn, which are used to manage overgrowth and improve the habitat. We visited recently and everything has grown back nicely. My oldest kid enjoyed taking photos of everything!

Even though the wetlands had to recently undergo a burn, it was still peaceful and enjoyable to walk the berms and bridges and see nature coming back. We could see the potential, and look forward to returning. It shouldnt be but a few months, I would think, before the vegetation and wildlife really is in full swing. Sadly, we werent able to enjoy the discovery center on site as they were closed, but Im guessing it wasnt the season yet, or due to the burn. Definitely take the time to explore the wetlands, bring the kids and get some exercise.

Its a shame that the Wetlands are dried up at the moment. Weve been in the past when we havent been in a drought and it was a wonderful experience. Until we have a bunch if rain I wouldnt go. They done a controlled burn today, Im sure that will help out with all the dried grass and fallen trees.

Wetlands need water to be wet. The management of the LWW has been apallaling poor over the past few years. Pumps are shut down 90% of the time and the wetland is almost always completely dry. The City owes it to the public to take better care of what once was one of the most spectacular outdoor destinations in central Texas when there was a concerted effort to keep the pumps running or fix them when they went down. Photo of a rainbow trout accompanying this review was obtained from a mud puddle where trout are stocked for winter put and take harvesting. There were dozens of trout in no more than 2 ft of water near the inflow, also now called Noras Pond. These fish will soon die as the last of the water dries up. I remain stunned that the condition of the wetland and its primary functions have taken such a precipitous nosedive. This place in conjunction with a wonderful program called Marsh Madness was once training thousands of children per year about science, fueling multimillion dollar research projects in concert with Baylor University, and was a destination for public to walk, run, and bike amidst one of the most biologically productive ecosystems in the region. Please Waco, step up and take care of this once amazing natural resource!
