It is so rare nowadays to find a restaurant that checks all the boxes. Mattie s is a beautiful estate with great vibes, plus the service was excellent, the food was delicious and interesting, and their cocktails were <$15! We will definitely be back!

My husband brought me here for my birthday last night. The hostess asked if we had a special occasion and told me happy birthday but that was where the celebration ended. Birthday was never mentioned again. People around us were so loud and rude that we couldnt even hear the waitress talking. Not restaurant fault but still frustrating. Food wise the green tomatoes were really good, biscuits were tasty but a little burnt and absolutely covered in honey. My husband ordered salmon medium but it came out completely raw in the middle. The restaurant did remake his dish and 2nd time was cooked correctly. They did give us chips and dip while we waited for his food. I ordered the fried chicken which was dry and way over seasoned and not crispy as you would expect fried chicken to be... The mashed potatoes were the best part of the dish. Dessert was tasty we got the key lime pie and the hummingbird cake. The house is very pretty but mediocrely decorated. It is in great shape for the age but aside from white walls and a few pictures on the wall its just ok. I can see the hype but the southern food they are serving isnt something I am going to be craving in the future. Dietary restrictions: We put down that I have a pepper allergy and dishes still came out with peppers.

Dietary restrictions: I have restrictions that I did not take, but the food was so delicious. Since it was an event, we got what we got and it was full of fatty, carbie, lactosie goodness! I recently dined at Matties and had a delightful experience in general. The service was outstanding; our waiter was incredibly attentive and accommodated my dietary restrictions, which I greatly appreciated. The restaurant and property was charming, with a lovely Southern ambiance, and the sight of peacocks wandering outside added a unique and whimsical touch. While the cocktail I ordered was well-crafted and enjoyable, the food left a bit to be desired. At $48, the scallops were cooked well but unfortunately a bit too salty for my taste. The portions were average - enough leftovers to take home. The experience was pleasant, and I would consider returning.

Im not sure if they were simply understaffed or not prepared for dinner. We got out drinks fairly quickly. When the waiter returned we asked for a couple minutes to review the menu. The waiter didnt return for another 30 minutes while we waited to order. For an appetizer, we had Biscuits and homemade sour cream and onion dip (not together lol) for the table. Both were delicious! Definitely recommend starters here! We finally got served our entrees about 90 minutes after being seated. I ordered the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and side salad. The potatoes and salad were great! The fried chicken, however, was not crispy, was kind of soggy, and tasted no different than what I would have at KFC or other fast food venue. It wasnt bad, but definitely was not worth the $30+ price point for a couple bone in thighs that were, in my opinion, underseasoned. The atmosphere is cute. Very southern country home. For the price, I cant see myself going back (entrees range for $25 (basic salad without meat)-$75 alone). However, if price is no matter for you, its a nice place for a decent meal!

It was a great restaurant but I had a bad experience. The food was good. The environment was fantastic. The host was great. The only downside was that I had a waiter who was arrogant. The whole time, I did not see a smile on his face. He brushed off my order and preferences, then very forcefully recommended what he thought was a better choice. Hopefully, it was one bad waiter, not the culture of the entire staff.

I loved the basmati rice bowl. The curry was so good. There are not many vegetarian options on the menu. If you are a pescatarian there are more options. Most of the appetizers contain meat, as well. We had a table of 6 and were there to celebrate my daughters birthday. She ordered the flounder and it was, unfortunately, overcooked and rubbery. The risotto was mushy and bland. I tried the risotto and it had zero flavor. It was just a miss that night. She did split the burger with her sister in law and said it was very good. The manager came to the table and apologized for the flounder and comped the dish. The drinks were delicious! I had the one with hibiscus tea and added Titos vodka to it. My son in law had a bloody Mary and said it was very tasty. The desserts were creative and delicious! We had a cherry cobbler dish, the chocolate cake, and the key lime pie. They brought my daughter a complimentary slice of really good cake with a layer of mousse. Overall, we had a really great time. Our server was very attentive and gave recommendations when asked. She was sweet and funny, as well. I would definitely go back for the basmati rice bowl and a dessert! The bowl was a very generous size and I thought the prices were very average Austin restaurant prices for the type of food and the atmosphere, which is so bright and lovely. The peacocks roam around the grounds and add an extra element to the beauty. Matties was Green Pastures, previously, btw. Vegetarian options: There was only one vegetarian option on the entree menu. Kid-friendliness: There was seating inside, on the porch, and outside in the courtyard area. I would recommend eating outside with kiddos, as they would probably enjoy watching the peacocks. I think children would be just fine inside, as well. It was a fairly robust atmosphere.

The property is just beautiful and the atmosphere inside the house is lovely. We visited recently for lunch at 11am. We were seated promptly and service was very good. As far as the menu goes, there are some stand outs and definite never agains. The Milk Punch French Toast was very tasty. So were the biscuits with strawberry butter and the pimento cheese appetizer. The pimento cheese was made with sharp cheddar and it was delish! The smoked salmon board was good. Its hot-smoked salmon and it was tasty. The salads were very expensive if you want protein, so I opted for the breakfast plate. That was a big mistake. The HUGE let down was the breakfast plate. The wild boar sausage was very dry. The potatoes were so over-seasoned that they really ruined the palate for the rest of the food. For the cost of the plate, it should come with a biscuit. We wont have the breakfast plate again.

This place gets 3 stars because we had to wait over an hour for our table and we did have a reservation. Our group arrived for our brunch reservation and were told it would be a 20 minute wait. So we went upstairs to the bar and ordered a few drinks. Over an hour later we were seated. Food was great. We ordered the biscuits, chilaquiles, fried chicken, burger, milk punch French toast, the farmhouse salad w salmon. The best one was the burger! Very delicious! We tried to order the beignets and the lobster Cobb but sadly all sold out. Service in general was slow. At the bar it took about 20 minutes to get our drinks. For the food service it was much faster. The atmosphere is cool. This is a spot for a slow brunch that takes all day. So don t go if u have other plans for the day! Uniquely Austin, romantic and nostalgic ambience, sublime and imaginative menu choices, food that might have the chíc-est diner reduced to steadfast salivation, and service that is exquisitely top-notch sans pretense. Travelers and anyone seeking a resplendently-designed restaurant, with vaulted oak trees covering the property cannot go wrong in choosing Matties, conveniently nestled near downtown on the south side of town. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options are abundant and delicious! Parking: Plenty of parking was available on a very busy Friday night. Accessible parking was plentiful, all nearest the restaurant, in at least 2 different locations on the property. Kid-friendliness: Family-friendly for certain. Great place to test ones young ones on how well theyve mastered the art of manners in a nice restaurant as the staff and patrons are all enthusiastically kid friendly, in my limited experience. Meaning: its a great family or intimate date experience, and the 2 co-exist in this charming venue. Decent, but overpriced food and menu! Few options for vegetarians, they did have some mocktails which was appreciated though. Definitely charging for ambiance but unfortunately aside from the peacocks and beautiful trees the ambiance is fully giving plantation tourism energy so that truly overshadows the experience. Stuffy and weird vibes from the host as well which is why 3 stars for service. Vegetarian options: Few

Went for a birthday dinner. The service was terrible. The starter biscuits were delicious but it took them nearly an hour to deliver the main course. The pork chop was over cooked and lathered in sauce. The salmon was also over cooked. The halibut and shrimp was one shrimp and a small piece of fish in a soup broth setting and tasted noticeably fishy. All in all a meal grossly over priced that I would expect in some resort tourist trap. The location is beautiful though and the peacocks are cool.

My wife and I have been coming back here every year for our anniversary since we got married at Green Pastures. The service and food is top notch, buttermilk biscuits, crispy cauliflower, fried green tomatoes, little gem wedge, seared salmon, grilled pork ribs and the porch tea to drink are our favorites! We had leftovers so expect healthy servings. Now about the property, such a charming and quaint place in the middle of town. We usually eat outside to enjoy watching the peacocks but the weather was a bit cold so we sat inside. No complaints there, the house is well kept with a great vibe. Can t go wrong with Mattie s, cheers!!!

check your receipts !!! Customer service = bad. My boyfriend and I ordered the same things (country fried steak) I was brought salmon instead. When brining this up to brandon the waiter, he said oh you said the same thing not salmon? To which replied yes. My nice boyfriend said it was fine and ate the salmon. When the check came they charged us for the salmon which was more expensive than what I ordered ( country fried steak). We simply asked if we could pay for what we ordered (the two country fried steaks) instead of (the country fried steak & salmon). Brandon said he was going to ask a manager and came back 10 minutes later with no explanation and just charged us for what we did not order. Very disappointed in the customer service and will not be returning

The atmosphere, landscape and location provides for a unique experience worth trying and repeating. Although the food was not great, it was decent (I give their food a 3 ) the overall experience of visiting and dining at this place is definitely 5 . Appetizers and drinks are also top-notch. Will definitely be returning here for many more visits.

Beautiful grounds and atmosphere - big country estate with each inside room unique. The big draw is the outdoor patio and grounds where peacocks roam free to add to the charm. The drinks were spectacular - dont miss the 5oz homemade milk punch for dessert. The fried chicken and biscuits are the best thing on the menu. Kid-friendliness: Very accommodating to children including kids options

Mattie s is a real southern gem. We absolutely adore the atmosphere. The property transports you back in time and you can easily imagine the family that used to live in the house walking through its halls. The food is sublime (fried chicken is a MUST for first timers). We ll be back time and time again. I recommend ensuring you sit on the patio or indoors. If you sit in the picnic area you get quite removed from the rest of the restaurant and the service gets VERY slow. We ve sat in the picnic area twice and this was the case both times. It s not enough to ruin the experience, though. Mattie s is an easy favorite that we strongly recommend. Kid-friendliness: My three year old loves walking around the property to see the peacocks!

Really different from what Im used to, but it was a nice experience. I really loved the calm atmosphere. They were a bit busy when we arrived so we sat on the patio. It wasnt too hot with the misting fans and it was around 7PM. Service was a bit slow in the beginning....I think the host forgot to tell the server about us. But once we got their attention the service was great. I tried the fried green tomatoes which came with a crab salad, it was delicious and refreshing. For my main dish I got the fried chicken plate. The chicken was cooked to crispy perfection and seasoned well. The mashed potatoes were covered with bacon, cheese and butter, just the way I like it!! Overall great experience!

Mattie s is so beautiful! Like walking into the old south! Formerly known as Green Pastures, Mattie s kept me favorite drink on the menu - Milk Punch. A must-try alcoholic beverage made with brandy and ice cream. Served in small cups for a reason!! Brunch is amazing. Our group had the pimento cheese appetizer, followed by the Classic Breakfast, burgers, a Lobster Cobb (amazing!) and the Fried Chicken Eggs Benedict (I dream about this dish! ) Brunch was very busy but they were able to seat us inside the bar area (it was too hot outside). I think we were forgotten for a bit (this no 5 for service) but everyone was friendly and the food was delicious. Highly recommend!! Parking: Because of the location, parking can be tricky on a busy weekend.

A bit of a letdown. My girlfriend and I were visiting from New Jersey and she was excited when she discovered Mattie s. Our reservation was a little late, but not quickly approaching closing time. We were seated fairly quickly, but it took quite some time for our server to come over. I recall the drinks taking some time to get to the table as well. We ordered everything at once, and it came out nice and staggered. All the apps were great like the mushroom and burrata and fried green tomatoes. We still rarely saw our server. The biggest bummer was my girlfriend ordering a shrimp and grits (I think) feature and the shrimp coming out not fully cooked, still somewhat transparent in the center. And again, it took a while for us to see our server and let them know so they could fix the issue. That sort of did it in for us that night. I d like to mention that there were other servers and FoH folks around and helping in our servers stead and huge thanks to them! Pretty good experience, wish it had been way better.

Great place for cocktails and brunch. There are many brunch options. We had the breakfast plate with sausage. It comes with potatoes - nice and crisp, sauted in red sauce. Toast or biscuits can be ordered separately. The tea cocktail with bourbon was nice and refreshing, topped with fresh mint. The coffee was very good too. The French toast, with berry compote, was flat out awesome. The portions are big, so order accordingly.

The toast wasn t eve toasted properly and was quite soggy. The croque madame was $24 but wasn t worth neither the presentation nor the quality for the ingredients in my opinion. Quite hyped spot, perhaps not best to come for brunch. The place is cute, just quite disappointed with the actual dishes. If it was cheaper perhaps it would have made more sense.

Matties was....magical! Its cliche to say. Its cheesy. Its still true. Its like walking into a movie that would start Matthew McConaughey or Rachel McAdams would star in where you think where do places like that even exist? Austin. It exists in Austin. I booked a reservation site unseen (minus the hundreds of pictures online) for my 10 year wedding anniversary dinner and as an out-of-towner trying to put together a nice evening for a special occasion without the help or recommendations of a local, I couldnt have gotten luckier. First, ambiance. Enchanting. You have to drive deep into a quiet, charming neighborhood up a long drive covered by a canopy of trees and approach this simple, sweet farmhouse. Outdoor seating when full gives a welcoming buzz. The peacocks at dusk nest and call out as they settle in for the evening. The interior is like waking through a portal to a different time, but decorated tastfully by Better Home & Garden. Second, service. We were greater cheerful with them congratulating us on our anniversary (I mentioned it in the online reservation) and a thanks for choosing them for the occasion. Shortly after being seated, we were surprised with a couple of flutes of champaign with which to toast ourselves. The rest of the time the service was a nice balance of available without overbearing. Charming without trying too hard. Accommodating without a hint of being put out. Lastly, food. A meal not soon forgotten. The fired green tomatoes with the crab and corn salad managed to achieve bright and fresh AND rich and creamy at the same time. I travel for work and eat a LOT of steak and the ribeye was a REALLY good steak. The wine sauce was nice, the asparagus was respectable, but the cauliflower cream mash was amazing! The red fish was delicate and flakey and the dish as a whole was bursting with flavor like a Molly Malone, but oddly enough, all I want to talk about was the bread. The griddled sourdough toast with a French pepper aoli was so flipping delicious, if thats all I ordered, I would have been a happy man. All that said, my wife was enamored and said it was the best meal weve shared in our 10 years of marriage. Thank, Matties, for an evening to remember.

In a world where the hustle and bustle of modern life often threatens to overwhelm, it is a rare pleasure to encounter a sanctuary of charm and tranquility. Such was my experience at Matties, a delightful brunch haven nestled within a 19th-century home in the heart of Austin. The moment one steps inside, they are transported to an era long past, surrounded by antique chic lounge and dining areas that exude an air of elegance and sophistication. The ambiance at Matties is nothing short of enchanting, with a moody vibe that gently whispers of times gone by. Outside, the grounds are graced by the presence of a beautiful and regal peacock, a living testament to the wonder and splendor of nature. Our culinary journey began with the honey biscuit appetizer, a dish that was both exquisite and comforting. The delicate balance of sweet and savory flavors, combined with the biscuits light, flaky texture, set the stage for the sumptuous feast that was to follow. My wife opted for the scrambled eggs accompanied by boar sausage, a delectable and hearty offering that showcased the chefs skill and creativity. The flavors melded together in perfect harmony, providing a delightful start to the day. For my own repast, I chose the 100% grass-fed burger, which was nothing short of a masterpiece. Topped with a rich tomato and bacon jam, each bite was an explosion of flavor that transported me to a state of pure gastronomic bliss. However, it must be noted that our experience was slightly marred by a minor lapse in service. Our waiter, though generally attentive, could have been more proactive in refilling our drinks. It took three visits to our table and a direct request from us before our glasses were replenished. While this did not detract significantly from the overall experience, it is a point that warrants attention in the pursuit of perfection. In conclusion, Matties is a haven where the ambiance and cuisine coalesce to create an experience that lingers in the heart and mind. Despite the slight hiccup in service, I wholeheartedly recommend this charming gem to all who seek a truly unique and memorable brunch experience in Austin.
