The one thing I would say, too small of a staff between the bar and the tables. You got two people handling food, drinks, and money between the bar and the tables. Nobody is washing their hands or wearing gloves, the cross contamination gotta stop.

This place finally has me fed up. The first time I ordered the jerk chicken and it was good but as I continued to order they just continuously going down hill. I tried the fried chicken and it s seasoned well but they gave me more bone than chicken. The second time I ordered the fried chicken it was burnt and it was on Uber. Lastly the times I have came in the establishment the workers have been rude and acted as if they didn t want to take care of me. Their brown stew chicken is mid too. Completely overrated and honestly just fed up. I tried to see the potential.

The first time I had jerk chicken was when I used to live in the Caribbean 8 years ago. There was a guy who sold jerk chicken from a wooden shack off the road in the mountains. It was so good I ate twice a week. Ever since then, I havent had jerk chicken like it until today. I lived in NYC and went to all the best jerk chicken shop and they were all very good but it wasnt the same. The ones in NYC taste more like chicken lattered in sweet BBQ sauce. THIS PLACE cooks jerk chicken exactly like how I had it. I had mine with a side of jerk sauce. The jerk sauce was incredible. I will definitely be a regular here from now on. Also the sides are HUGEE portions. love it.

I have this food before and it was good . I liked the oxtail so I decided to try it again. The oxtail was tough ( under cook)and difficult to bite into. I am a Jamaican so I know what this is suppose to taste like. We brought it to the managers attention and she noted that they don t cook oxtail to fall of the bone. We requested to have fry chicken instead of the oxtail as my young son would be able to enjoy it instead. I am not sure if it was a punishment but the chicken was fried so dry it was difficult to chew. My son and I were unable to eat the meal and had to trash it . We had to end up getting some else to eat. This is my last meal at this spot.

We enjoyed our recent dining experience at The Island Spot-Carrollton. Everyone in my party ordered the Island Sampler so we could try a variety of items. The coconut shrimp and beef patties were great! The bbq wings were ok. I prefer whole wings vs. wingettes. We tried the bread pudding but did not care for it. We went with the mango cheesecake and it was good. Great service and island music playing created a nice vibe.

Let me start by saying the food was great I have no complaints about the flavor or the portion of the food. However upon walking into the restaurant I almost left, because I was not greeted it took a while for someone to acknowledge my presence and it was not busy at the time Then after being seated I waited 17 minutes before anyone came to take my order, the waitress never stopped to see if we needed anything the entire visit, someone from the bar came and took my order. Then it took another 42 minutes to receive the actual food.. I dont know if they had to catch the chicken and pluck it but that seems like it awful long time. Then the waitress actually came to the table and gave me my check, after waiting about 10 minutes I just got up and went to the register to pay. At that point the waitress was throwing her coworkers under the bus by telling me how theyre not helping her. That may or may not be true, Im not sure, but I also dont care as a customer. That should be handled discreetly, not with me. Based on my experience I would never eat inside again but based on the that the food was delicious I might consider ordering to go..... maybee

I ordered the jerk chicken wings and fries. The wings were clearly cooked a couple of days ago and reheated, and they did not have any flavor at all. My partner ordered a chicken sandwich and, as it was explained to me, the meat used in the sandwich was drumstick meat. Cool. Too bad it had a bone in it. The server-bartender-host replaced my meal with proper jerk chicken which was absolutely delicious. I woulda left this review at that but my partner ended up vomiting when we got home. I used to enjoy eating here a couple of years ago and dont have quality issues like this, and I think any restaurant that has the gall to take your money and serve you old, vomit inducing food needs to reassess things. Oh and dont get me started on how the wings and fries are listed on lunch specials where it says it comes with two sides but that doesnt apply to the winds and fries

I guess if you catch them on a good day it s ok but there s better jamaican food in DFW. today I get home to find that the beef patty I ordered was just a piece of stale bread. when I called for a $4 refund the guy said he needed proof (something I ve never had a restaurant ask for). I offered to send a pic but he said he has no way to receive it and I d have to drive back up there with it and show them. not worth my time but here s your proof.

I used to be a regular customer at a Jamaican restaurant in DFW and it was one of my favorite places to dine. However, during my recent visit after a long time, I was disappointed by the quality of the food. I ordered an oxtail platter and a Jerk Chicken platter, but the rice was overcooked, the cabbage was soggy and overly sweet, the oxtail was too sweet, and the jerk chicken was dry. I believe they may have a new cook. I hope they can improve the quality of their food and bring back the flavors that made me love their restaurant in the first place. In the meantime, I would recommend Ronald Jamaican Chicken in Irving as an alternative. Their food is amazing and worth every penny.

Ive been here about 6 times. The first time I was there, it was good. I received ok service, but the food was good. Every other time Ive gotten my food to go and it had been trash. The patties are always overcooked. Ive never in life had coco bread as hard as theirs. The wings are slimey, the plantains are hit and miss. I asked for extra gravy on the side. They gave me a regular portion of gravy on the aide with no gravy on my stewed chicken. When I walked in, I was not greeted. I tipped 10 bucks just to be nice on a pick up order. I was not shown my food upon pickup. Its just not the same as my first visit. I told everyone about this place just for them to go and have a bad experience. I dont know what the issue is but they need fix it. Until then Ill be going to Rolands in Irving. Its OK but even at ok its 3x better than the island spot. Smh because I know they can do better. After throwing the coco bread up against the wall to show my wife how hard it was I actually ate some of the $70 worth of food I bought and the rice and peas were sweet for some reason. The cabbage, patties, plantains, tasted old. The stew was runny which is unusual. Everything tasted different. Im never coming here again

Real Talk on The Island Spot Been hittin up The Island Spot for like six years now, thinkin it might get better, but nah, its just been a letdown every time. Im Jamaican American, grew up in Miami, so I know whats up with real good food. This place? Its nothing like Miami and straight up disrespects Jamaican food. First off, the service is straight trash. Youd think theyd at least be chill, but nah, they act like they don t even wanna be there. Every time I go, its like they competing for who can care less. Now, lets talk about the food. Man, its just dry and sad. Beef patties? Overcooked every single time. And the chicken, they keep burning it. Like, come on, burnt chicken aint jerk chicken. And them drinks? Just average, nothing special. I really dont get how they have anything beyond 2 stars AT BEST!!. Feels like its gotta be from folks who aint ever had ANYTHING NEAR real Caribbean food. As someone who knows what real Jamaican food is supposed to taste like, The Island Spot 100,000% ain t it (unless you re looking for disappointment every single time). However, if you are looking for GOOD Caribbean food, please AVOID THIS PLACE so that you do not misjudge this ABSOLUTE TRASH for actual Caribbean. Try someplace else.

I visited on Saturday and ordered jerk chicken. I went at a time when there was a lull in customers. The place is small but was practically empty. Jerk chicken was just OK. I had to scrap off what seemed to me an unusual amount of black char from the skin. The jerk sauce was insanely hot. The sides were unimpressive. The peas and rice were pretty dry as if they were leftovers that had been re-heated, spinach was mushy, over-salted and greasy. Maybe I went at the wrong time or just used to something more where I come from.

It was my husband and mines first time visiting this restaurant and we already cant wait to go back! The service is excellent! We went for lunch during a weekday and we were seated right away. Our server, Sasha, greeted us as soon as we arrived, provided us with the drink menu and gave us some time to look at the lunch menu and decide what we wanted. Their drink menu is INCREDIBLE - a book in itself it has so many options! I had the hardest time deciding what I wanted and asked Sasha for her recommendation. Im always looking for something strong, but not too sweet, and she recommended the Flaming Hurricane and it was perfect! Not too much ice to water it down so I only needed one drink to get the feeling I was looking for ;-). My husband and I decided to order the platter as an appetizer and got the jerk wings, beef patty and fried plantains. They were all absolutely amazing - perfect seasoning without being greasy or too saucy. I would absolutely recommended going during lunch time. Their meals come with two sides so you get more bang for your buck. I was in the mood to be adventurous so I got the goat curry with spinach and rice and beans. The sides were outstanding - I really enjoyed the spinach. The goat curry had a great flavor (my husband will order it when he returns), but it was a tiny bit too salty for me. It did not stop me from eating it all though...lol. My husband wanted to try a variety of options so he got the 3 meat platter with jerk chicken, brown stewed chicken and fish fillet. He enjoyed everything on his plate. I was very impressed with the authentic ambiance inside the restaurant and our server, Sasha, was so pleasant, helpful and patience. If you enjoy Jamaican food you CANNOT go wrong but heading to The Island Spot!!

From the rude person that answered the phone when calling to see if they were open (shouldve known). To the guy that seated us and wanted me to seat dang near on my sisters lap. I didnt want my back to the door so he try to seat me where he wanted when I didnt move he left the menu at the other table where I didnt want to seat and walked off. Whats the problem we were 3 of the 5 customers that was in there. Hes rude he must be the nephew as to why hes greet customers as the first impression. He needs to be in the back making fresh Now to the food. Being a Caribbean myself you know when food is old. Old and barely warm. Not even the plantains was made that day. Couldnt have. Pea and rice was dry and old. No thyme, herbs, nothing. Curry goat old not made in the last 24 hours. Just in a big pot thats not even on simmer. Throw food in the microwave at least. Cabbage was fresh. Our server was deligthful. She was very patient with me I was so indecisive. Im pretty sure all this food is in a big pot being scooped out. Im sure Mama Joyce is no longer cooking bc yeah. Thats the fastest island food ever came out. Goodness. Oh yeah music was good. Parking: Parked in the front didnt have an issue but it is in a plaza.

Ok, we weren t immediately impressed as it took quite a while for the wait staff to notice our arrival and get drink orders but, it seemed another person came on shift and got this under control. The food was worth the wait. I ordered the goat curry, it was spicy, and had great depth of flavor. The meat fell off the bone. Saffron rice was also delicious. Would recommend this one with French fries to soak up the gravy. My husband ordered the two meat option, the jerk chicken and brown stew he only wanted it spicier. 100% would recommend for those looking for specific flavors, or to try something new!

I order for lunch through Doordash. This was my first time ordering from here and I REALLY WANTED TO like the food. I have not been able to find good Jamaican food in the area and didnt want to drive far for it. Oxtails- they hardly had any meat on them. There was more sauce thank meat. The sauce was ok, not bad the spinach and the vegetables are WONDERFUL. the Jerk Chicken- NO. It was not hot at all and my food was priority dropped off. It tasted old and parts were seasoned and parts were not. One piece I question if it was cooked all the way through and that should not be. Rice and peas- I usually love rice and peas and these were ok. There was a HUGE ball of hard rice in the middle of my rice that I had to throw away. Beef pie- it was ok. Again not hot. I really think the cooks should stop trying to cook so much food in advance. We can tell the difference. And let people wait for it to cook. I dont mind waiting for good for cooked to order

Firstly, there is a young man in this establishment with a very unpleasant attitude. Not welcoming at all. Also, whenever I order delivery from this place I receive old food. The food is never fresh!!! The plantains are old and stale. The curry and rice taste like left over food from the fridge that you warm up in the microwave. The patty is also disgusting! They also don t communicate if they don t have an item. I am sure the food is much better if you eat at the actual restaurant however people who order out should get quality food as well. Highly disappointed in this place. I will never waste my money here again. Ridiculous.

First time I ordered food from here never been so disappointed My chicken was raw I called and talked to someone there that was not very pleasant very nice and I told him that my chicken was raw it was not fully cooked and then he got a attitude ask me if I could call back I said no cuz I was at work I was trying to eat lunch and he said he didnt have anyone here to deliver any food well I dont want anymore delivered I didnt want any more of your food. Because its half done I dont want any more raw food I would rather have my money back so he asked me about bringing the food back what if I had a way I would have picked it up myself thats why I did it through DoorDash so then he proceeds to tell me that I need to go through DoorDash and thats what I did

This place is amazing. We placed an online order and we expected to sit down and wait for it, but the food was ready in less than 10 minutes. The staff was kind and funny in the short time we were there. Driving home with this food was so bad because I was tempted to open it and just eat it then and there . The brown stew chicken was very savory with a rich sauce which complimented the fresh cabbage. For me, the star of the show was the curry chicken which was SO tender it just fell off the bone. The sauce was flavorful and the perfect consistency to eat with the well cooked rice. I need to come back here asap so I can try more things. Parking: There s a parking lot out front but it seems pretty full most of the time, we found a spot though.

When we walked into The Island Spot we were transported back to Jamaica. We returned a week ago from vacationing in Jamaica and fell in love with Jamaica, the food and people. I searched and searched for a Jamaican restaurant and found The Island Spot. We had curry chicken, Stew chicken, jerk chicken, curry goat and of course plantains. The food tastes like it was cooked in Jamaica. We love it. 5 Stars is not high enough. This place is now my new favorite restaurant.

The sauce with the jerk chicken was fruity and hot, so delicious. Our server was polite and attentive to our needs, but get this man some help! Same guy as bar tender and server for all tables is a lot for one person, although we were there earlier and didn t have to wait as long as some. Once food was ordered, it came out in a good window of time. We ll definitely be back!

Then instead of sympathizing with the customer, the server Shawna had the nerve to tell me Jamaicans complain too much, as if I came there to beg smh....So you all Americans enjoy
