Everyone living or visiting Waco should visit this Memorial. It is unique, special, and informative. What a great memorial for a great hero! We loved the plaques and really made us reflect on this event, those who served, the many heroes during this dark event in history, and of course the hero Doris Miller. Suggestion: place a way to donate to keep the greatest maintenance possible. Never forget!

Miller, the first African-American to win the Navy Cross, served in the kitchen of the USS West Virginia and is known for his immense bravery during the Pearl Harbor attack in 1941. The statue at the memorial is 170x30 with two slanted walls shaped like the hull of a battleship. You can visit this place while walking the East Waco riverwalk.

Located by the riverwalk near Waco Suspension Bridge this place gives you an opportunity to take a break and remember the courageous souls who fought for the nation. The monument is an example of architectural excellence and resembles a ship s hull which perfectly connects to the history it is built for. You can take great pictures at this place. There is a fishing deck, a picnic spot with grill and restrooms nearby.

A ship shaped structure built in the memory of. Doris Miller s heroic contribution to the Pearl Harbor attack. It s a really nice looking structure. This structure is close to the Waco Suspension Bridge. And if are hiking or biking on the river walk trail then you will be seeing it while passing. Restrooms are nearby.

I was pretty disappointed that theres not a single plaque or explanation about what this wonderful war hero did, who he was or what he accomplished. Anybody that either stumbled upon this memorial or went there intentionally because they saw it on Google maps would probably have no idea what its about. I think Waco needs to step it up and have some more information about who Doris Miller was and why this memorial is significant. Its a nice area and the atmosphere is very scenic.
