We dined at The Brasserie during our visit to Waco. I made reservations on a Monday night at 7pm; however, upon arrival there was ample seating and the hostess seated us near the window. We went to Berties on the Roof to take in the views, take a few photos and order a drink prior to our dinner reservation. We noticed more guests dining at Berties; however, after arriving at The Brasserie, I was glad we opted to dine there, I felt this was a more intimate dining experience. We ordered the Braised Pork for Two. This also came with roasted potatoes, greens and two popovers. This was served family style and was plenty for both of us. The pork was fork tender, the potatoes had the right amount of garlic and seasoning and the greens were very good as well. The restaurant decor was lovely and tied in with the look and feel of the hotel. Our server was friendly and the service was attentive.

I had the pleasure of eating breakfast here about 6 months ago. I enjoyed my meal so much that I returned when I visited Waco on September 12, 2024. What I wanted to order was steel cut oats with raisins, but thats dish is no longer offered on the menu. Consequently, I moved forward with ordering a with maple syrup, black pepper and crispy crunchy breakfast potatoes. I enjoyed my meal. The restaurant wasnt very busy when I arrived, but business started picking up before I completed breakfast. The service was excellent and the food was fantastic. I highly recommend the Brasserie. Just a heads up, there is a cricket infestation in Waco right now, and its a challenge trying to keep them out of the hotel lobby. Parking: I always park on the street along the side of the hotel.

Service was very slow. Took forever to get our drinks and order dinner. I got up to find help. Waitress wasn t friendly. Broccoli Bow tie pasta had only stalks no actually broccoli ends & kale salad was not good. We had a large party and overall experience was not what we expected it would be. Too expensive for lackluster service and sub par food.

We were a party of 4 before a Baylor game. Our server Andres was really attentive and had good suggestions. One couple ordered the pork tenderloin for two which included potatoes and creamed collard greens, another person had the chicken fried steak and I had the airline chicken with squash and rice. We all thought our dishes were great - well flavored and put together . We shared peach cobbler and the Dr Pepper cake. Loved them too. We will return.

Restaurant is absolutely beautiful but the service was terrible. Some of the slowest service I ve ever experienced and that s when the restaurant was almost empty. The steak was well over cooked but some of the sides were good. Honestly nothing about this restaurant was worth the price. Very disappointing, would not recommend unless you only care about the atmosphere.

If only the food was as good as the restaurant is beautiful. We were so excited to eat here but left very disappointed. We ordered the artichoke dip and it was nearly inedible and the chips were literally bendy instead of crisp. The $36 steak was not tender at all. Tried to order 3 different drinks out of their 7 options and the bar was out of all 3. The food was overpriced for what it was. We really expected more.

We went there for a light lunch. I had an avocado caprese sandwich, chicken salad croissant, Korean-style wings, and buttermilk. The avocado sandwich has no avocado. It is more like mayo, and a little avacado was added. I like the wings and the chicken salad. Chicken salad had a lot of mayo.

Very disappointing. The menu is Applebees, but the prices are not. The food isnt as good as an Applebees. Their artichoke dip was bland, and the parmesan popovers were dry and overcooked. The salads were good, but not great. I tried to book online with open tabl, but they are not on open table. Not helpful. Then I tried yelp. They are unclaimed on yelp! It is 2024. Not helpful. But never to be beaten, I tried their website. All I can do there is book a room! Not helpful. So I found the phone number and called the only number o n the web site. They said they would transfer me. After some ringing, I was hung up on. Not helpful. I called back and told them what happened they were sorry, and exactly the same thing happened AGAIN Not helpful. I called a 3rd time. I mentioned I was stubborn... I wasnt as nice about it to the guy who was going to transfer me a 3rd time. He sent me to the rooftop restaurant, and they answered on the first ring and booked me for the Main restaurant. Whew.... that was a lot of work for ok food. They need a chef with some taste. If Joanna has tasted this food and thinks it is good, no one should buy her cookbooks! I didnt. Anyone can make Applebees food. Probably including a trained monkey. But I dont want Applebees food, or I would have gone there. All the magnolia property menus are so similar that once you eat one place, you can skip all the rest. Very sad. We visited the rooftop restaurant after we left, and they were busier with a LITTLE better menu. If they were online I would have known that when tried to book a table. But alas...it turns out decorating a restaurant and running one are different. Get a real chef, and make sure your marketing director does their job and gets you on the right apps.

We had creative drinks at the brasserie, enjoying the atmosphere in those bright, spacious dining rooms. We then took our drinks to the cozy, antique library at the bottom of the staircase. The design, furniture, and decorations of this hotel were lovely. The staff were always friendly and welcoming, and the drinks well balanced. We look forward to going back and exploring the coffee counter and rooftop bar.

We were really excited to come and try the food here as the hotel looks gorgeous and the theming is beautiful. The menu really exited us as well. We ordered but the food was very disappointing. The Parmesan popovers were dripping in oil which was a little unappetizing to me, our sides also came before our meal and not with it. When our entrees arrived they were extremely underwhelming. The bow tie pasta was incredibly oily and the pasta was overcooked. The chicken fried steak was soggy and tough. The pork chop was okay but nothing spectacular. I really like the environment here and the service was okay, just the food really needs some work.

If they could fix the food it d be a great place ! My pork chop was extremely dry and overcooked, the peaches that were part of the topping were almost crunchy from not being ripe . Our popovers came out flat like a pancake which was another disappointment. I feel bad that they put the effort into the hotel then to fail badly on food. My wife s chicken fried steak was very good though. We were just disappointed

This of course was a beautiful atmosphere but we were cold during dinner which took too long to be served. The iron skillet macaroni looked like macaroni soup and tasted terrible. The chicken fried steak was shameful with soggy crust, chewy steak. Cobb salads looked like chopped salad in a bag but we gobbled those down because we were so hungry! We got to eat here for dinner for our night in Waco during our Texas road trip. The building is beautiful and the food was pretty good too. I wouldnt say any of us were blown away by the food we ate but we didnt dislike anything either. The menu felt like it was trying to be a bit too fancy while also trying to have some regular items that were spruced up a bit to seem fancier. Sometimes simpler is better but again we enjoyed everything we ate. Just plan to spend a bit of money but definitely enjoy the atmosphere.

After walking the interior of the hotel and enjoying all the beauty of the design I decided to eat at the Brasserie. I sat at the bar next to another couple. During the course of our entire wonderful conversation neither of us were checked on at all. It was as if the bar area was completely ignored. Once we were able to get the attention of the bar staff the excuse given for lack of attentiveness was that they were slammed with drink orders. The bar was not crowded at all and there were plenty of empty seats. I ordered the bow tie pasta and added the sausage. The flavor was decent but the pieces of broccoli were tiny and minimal. When I asked for my check the girl at the bar had an attitude problem. Overall I felt that due to the very poor service this restaurant is not worth returning to. I did let the Manager know about my experience and I suggested some coaching could be done towards better service standards so the customer is not left feeling like I did.

Just had dinner here for the first time and it was excellent! I had the kale Ceasar and the grilled salmon. The salmon was excellent, crispy on top, with fresh green beans and almonds on top. Two in our party had the grilled pork chops, served over sweet potatoes with peaches and corn. We also tried the Dr pepper Fudge cake, which tasted like a fresh brownie, and peach cobbler. Both were served warm. The meal was very satisfying, served in a quiet yet comfortable, casual atmosphere. Our served was friendly and upbeat. Overall a good experience and I would go back again. Id probably order the salmon again, it was so good I dont know if Id venture out. But they did have a chicken on the menu that sounded good, too! If you visit, they have a special coffee shop just down the hall that is also excellent! Parking: Valet available at the front door!

I love anything with the Magnolia seal. They have worked a lot for this place and I applaud the style, what they wanted to achieve and what each thing represents. The place visually gives you an air of peace, tranquility and company. You can enjoy a meal with your friends or family, the service is very good but to be honest the food is not so good. Maybe it needs a little creativity, updating and more emphasis on the presentation of the dishes. We were several people and each thing had a detail. I know that maybe they improve and make an effort every day and it shows. The attention from the moment we booked was very good and we had a pleasant experience. Ill have to come back to try the breakfasts

I was excited to try The Brasserie at Hotel 1928...a party of eleven of us...the server, a temp and not regular employee was phenomenal, and apologetic for what we hope was a bad night for the kitchen and bar... First, cleanliness, the floors and tiles were not clean, nor was the bathroom...one would think there would be staff assigned to do simple clean up, if there were, maybe they took the night off.. The popovers were flat and tasteless...waitress took them off the bill and brought new ones much later, they too were flat (although not as flat) and also tasteless...how hard is it to make a popover? Biscuits, they can be tricky, but you would think for the price they would have a chef who knew something about making biscuits... Shrimp and grits...the shrimp was fine, the grits...borderline and being nice. Chicken fried steak with white gravy came out overdone, tough and the gravy was congealed when it hit the table....it got thicker and thicker.... The coffee was completely undrinkable, not burnt, but awful.... Cost for the dishes was such that you would expect great food....sadly it felt more like bad roadside tent food ... The waitress was the saving grace...she was trying and went the extra mile... If you are expecting the hotel and food you saw on the TV show...well ....maybe like meeting your childhood heros when you are an adult...the glimmer isnt there, the fact disappoints the expectation.

I had high hopes, but should have trusted the reviews. We had a party of 8. It was a Saturday night and the place was half empty so there was no reason for how bad the experience was. We sat down and few minutes later our server came by and filled some of our water glasses and not others without saying a word. She left and didn t come back for another 8 minutes. When she came back she said are y all still doing okay? and looked shocked when I asked if we could order drinks. Those drinks took another 20 minutes before they came out, several minutes after appetizers were brought. For the food, nothing was great. The wings, the biscuits, and the salmon were good. Everything else was below average. On our second round of drinks the old fashion came out looking like the picture. The ice wouldn t even fit in the glass so it wasn t even touching the liquid and made it impossible to drink without spilling. We ordered another drink about 10 minutes before we paid our bill. It was on the bill and they charged for it, but it took another 20 minutes and me asking 2 other servers because ours never came back to get it and even when it was delivered it wasn t an old fashion. There were 3 bartenders and 7 people sitting at the bar.

This is a review of the bar. It pains me to write this review because we know so many people who work there. We ve been to the bar on four occasions. Here is our experience: First time. No smiles. The drinks were good. The staff was meh. Didn t feel especially welcomed. Second time. Big smiles and welcome from a female bartender. Drinks were good. We left our tab open and were looking forward to another drink. I noticed at some point the staff was cleaning up and not making eye contact with us. I asked the smiley bartender if we could order another drink. She hesitated and said yes. Then after a few seconds she told us that they close at 10 and can t make any more drinks. I looked at my phone and it was 9:58. We didn t get any warning and no one checked on us after we ordered our first drink. Third time. It was good. Drinks were good. Staff was relatively friendly but nothing memorable. It was fine. Fourth time. No smiles. Ordered our drinks. Drinks were good. No one ever followed up to see if we wanted another drink. Our drinks sat empty for 15 minutes and no one made eye contact with us. The bar was pretty dead too. Finally I flagged the bartender down and asked to close out. He ran my card and handed me my check without making any eye contact and certainly no smiles or thanks for coming in. He even handed me a Sharpie rather than a real pen. After four visits, it just feels like the staff doesn t want us there. It feels like our presence is an inconvenience to them. Chick Fil A and Buccee s is a far better experience.

My partner and I had a reservation here and the vibe was immaculate. Unfortunately, the food was abysmal. We ordered wings for the appetizer and half the chicken were undercooked and by the time we got less than half way through eating we found paper parchment still stuck on the food. Management came over with a half genuine apology and took it off our bill but it was still disgusting to know that I ate more paper than chicken. We ended up waiting more than 45 min waiting for the entrees. Our server took forever to get or drinks or greet us and by the time the food came we still did not have utensils. I used to be a server so I understand it gets busy but she didn t even stop to apologize for the wait or explain. By the time the drinks came (both rounds) the ice was melted. This restaurant was gorgeous to look at but disappointing to experience. They spent more money on what the physical place looks like rather than investing in quality service.

I was not impressed. We went for brunch. They apparently don t keep a stocked bar and ran out of champagne for mimosas. Though the champagne only needed to come from downstairs, it took a good 20 minutes for the last person in our party to be served (they brought everyone else s drinks to the table, just not his). They also forgot his croissant. I had the chicken biscuit. And it was meh. The chicken was fine, if under seasoned. But the biscuit was bad and the bottom was so soaked with honey that it was just mush. If you re doing a chicken biscuit in the South, you have to get the biscuit right. It was also freezing inside and despite the space not being full, the acoustics amplified every sound and it was impossible to hear our friends. I will say our server was great with the kids in our party. We then went outside for a drink in the rooftop, where they once again ran out of the wine ordered by the same friend and then took forever to determine they didn t have anymore on site. The outdoor bar appeared abandoned most of the time and was covered in bees.

I love Joanne and Chip Gaines, and I watch their show and I watched the renovation of the 1928 hotel. The hotel itself was beautiful, and the library was spectacular. The atmosphere of the restaurant and hotel were great. The food was disappointing. We had a party of 4. We all ordered steak medium, and one ordered medium rare. One of the medium steaks and the medium rare steak came to the table well done. It was sent back, and the waitress , who was great, told us they have a new chef. If this is the quality of the food a new chef puts out, then they need another chef. The manager came to the table and apologized and comped the steaks. Mine second steak came back medium in the middle and well done at the ends. The hotel will lose a lot of money and customers since most people will expect great food from a Gaines restaurant. We also had cheese cake creme brulèe and the sugar top was burnt. Overall, it was a very disappointing food experience.

My wife had been wanting to go here for a while. Walking in it looked like a really nice restaurant. I left feeling like I had just eaten at a truck stop diner at 3 AM. The table and napkins were stained, booth was dirty, they ran out of glasses for our drinks and ended up just giving us shots of soda which I had to ask and wait for every time. I don t think our waitress was busy considering we were only one of five tables filled. You know the fry that sits in the fryer all day? That s what all the french fries were. Just crispy oil pockets. My wife s food was missing key ingredients which she asked the waitress for multiple times, because we were willing to finish preparing her meal, but she never got them. I wouldn t have even been upset about my chicken fried steak costing $27, had it been better than Denny s. So I would highly recommend everybody go in and take a look at the pretty decor, then walk out and go eat somewhere else.

I had been wanting to come eat here since they opened so my husband took me for dinner during a visit to Waco. The hotel itself was really pretty, so was the dining area. When we sat down, our table looked really dirty, although it was just the marble table itself that was super stained. It still made it look a little gross. The booths were also very dirty, they hadn t been wiped since last use. The napkins looked nice so when I unrolled them I was quite shocked to see they were very dirty (pictures) with lipstick and yellow stains all over them. Our waitress came by and apologized for the size of the glasses, explaining there was a party going on upstairs and they were using all the normal glassware, which was fine, but we went through dinner needing numerous refills since we were using juice glasses. I ordered the shrimp and grits and my husband ordered chicken fried steak. At first both dishes looked absolutely delicious. The chicken fried steak looked golden brown and appeared a little darker on the bottom, as he started eating it he realized the bottom was just soaked in grease. The french fries tasted like they had been cooked earlier in the day and warmed back up by throwing them back in the fryer. At this point, they tasted a bit stale and mostly like hollow grease blocks. My grits were supposed to come with blistered tomatoes I asked for them twice and saved half of my meal for them. Our waitress eventually came back, put our check on the table and walked away. Needless to say the service was not great and it wasn t due to them being busy. We were probably one of five tables when we got there. The meal was a bit pricey, but that wouldn t have been an issue had the food and service been great. I was pretty disappointed. We will not be taking our families when they come and visit.

Sadly, we found that previous reviews were correct. The restaurant decor was lovely, the food was fine, and the service left much to be desired. The highlight of our meal were the crispy sweet potatoes and the tomato bisque. The iceburg steak was more blue cheese than iceburg and the grilled pimento cheese came out room temp. The food for our table of seven came out in stages which was not ideal and then no one came back to check on us. We patiently waited a solid 15 minutes after the last of us had finished eating and finally had to go seek out a member of the staff to get our check so we wouldn t be late for an appointment we had. Bottom line, if you want a chance to check out what the the Gaines duo created maybe just get a bottle of wine and a snack and be thankful for the slow service because it at least you ll be able to soak the beauty of the restoration in a little longer.

We were a group of 3 with a reservation. We were seated at probably the worst table in the restaurant with high server traffic, even though there were many open tables. Our bar drinks arrived after our appetizers. No plates were provided for them. The corn salad is not well described on the menu and is in fact cabbage slaw with corn in it. The mac and cheese was good and dining room is beautiful to end on a positive note.

Restaurant is beautiful and the food was good (not necessarily great). Service was not good. Initial wait was long and then extremely long wait until got drink. I ordered a 2nd beer and didn t get what I ordered. Pointed it out to waitress who assured me she has entered what I asked for-I m sure she did but that wasn t what I got. Entrees for four people were 5 mins apart being delivered. Intended to have desert but waitress didn t ask and we left. Atmosphere (great) and price demand much better service.

Mostly came here to tell you that the biscuits were so good they gave me goosebumps. (Thats the highest rave review I can give) Also, now Im on a mission to find the recipe. The atmosphere was amazing of course, but they sat us at a tiny table for two right in the middle of everything. The table was so small you couldnt lay both of the menus on the table. (Giant menus, small table) Lol It took a while for our server to show up but maybe they were busy.

My friends and I were looking so forward to having dinner here and last night were very disappointed. We had reservations, and when we checked in requested a table by the window. Although there were several empty tables, including one by the window, we were seated against the mirrored wall. Our server was very inattentive throughout the meal, and we had to wait quite a while at the end of the meal to have our plates cleared and the check- we looked around for the waitress and noticed she was just visiting socially with some people close by, completely oblivious that we had been waiting on her to return. The food was over-priced and an average at best. We had a party of 4, and when the plates were served, only 3 of us got our entrees, while the other had to wait for hers- any good restaurant should know all the entrees should be served at once. My friend ordered the $32 salmon meal that was supposed to come with rice pilaf, and she was served a very small piece of salmon and steamed white rice- definitely not what she expected for the price! Overall, a very disappointing experience and not what we expected for a Gaines enterprise.

Food and ambiance were fantastic. But something was amiss with kitchen and wait staff. Waitress didnt have time to check on us, we waited a long time (45 min for food and 2 meals out of 10 were not served until wait staff realized mistake) upscale place. Manager finally came our to bus tables to help the two waiters on our side of floor. 22 tables waiting in our area got up and left because of service. Other side had 5 to 6 wait staff. Think the floor manager needs to reevaluate his approach. It was Sunday Feb 25th brunch.

Well to start, the atmosphere in the restaurant is very bright. It actually reminds me of a fancy Waffle House. No disrespect to the designer just think that it was more diner-ish than anything. We did not receive service that you should expect from this type of restaurant. Our food actually arrived before our drinks. The parmesan pop overs were burnt to look & taste, yet our server told us that was normal. We sent them back and received another order cooked & plated without black char. We split the Braised pork for 2 & the meal was very good. The blind lemon was a nice change of pace but when I ordered one at the bar after our meal was over, the bartender put Waaay too much red stuff in it and it was really tart. Nothing that a splash of club couldnt fix. Crises averted. All in all it was clean the food was good but not that impressed with the staffs customer service skills. Enjoy!

Been here twice sitting at the bar top, once right after they opened and this last weekend. Both times the service was lacking. The first time there was 4 people behind the bar and no came to get our order, we had to ask the bartender in front of us to take our order. I got the vibe that everyone just wanted to clean and make drinks for the restaurant and not actually serve the bar top or lord forbid make eye contact. This weekend there were two bartenders and the story was not much different. We were greeted, but the bartender made it very obvious that she did not want us eating at the bartop. She started talking to the other bartender (right in front of us) about how they shouldnt have to serve food at the bar AND make drinks for the ENTIRE restaurant. I was a bartender in restaurants for years, and its not uncommon to serve food at the bar and make drinks from the restaurant.

We decided to try out The Brasserie -- and were so glad we did. Atmosphere was matched by great food -- Honey Glaze Salmon and the sandwhiches and Sweet Potato Fries were fantastic. A beautiful space but experience ruined by many unavailable menu items & very poor wine selection. We came early for our Friday night res to get a cocktail from the upstairs bar & tour the space. Worst Old Fashioned I ever had. Space is beautiful especially the Library downstairs. Sat for dinner in Brasserie. Tried to order a bottle of Cab from a very short wine list & was told I only had 2 options from the red list; they were out of nearly everything. Food: Same deal. Out of all 3 pork dishes on menu. Only meat options were Chicken Fried Steak that was tough & overcooked. Other option was Steak (sirloin) & Fries which actually was expertly cooked & presented. Service very amateur. New management desperately needed to make this place worthy of the beautiful space it occupies.

We were so excited to visit Hotel 1928 after seeing it aired on tv. We came here for a girls trip and had reservations to dine at this restaurant. When we checked in at the hostess stand they said they had to clean a table (we had reservations and there was PLENTY of tables available) they then proceeded to sit us in the darkest corner possible at the community booth as I call it. We had a couple seated RIGHT next to us which was frustrating given we had a reservation and there was plenty of open searing. Our server, Jackson was phenomenal and the food was as well. We ordered the biscuits to start with and both got the steak which was perfection. We also ordered the skillet Mac, but save your money. It looks delicious, but is a let down. It was a neat place, but it s not worth the hype.

The worst dining experience in a long time. Sunday night 8:30pm, go to the bar with a friend and each order the steak and fries. Went to look around and bartender says don t be gone long those medium steaks won t take long. After coming back in 10 minutes and chatting for another 15, I began to wonder where are those steaks? Had the bartender check and it seems the system didn t forward the order to the kitchen. So he went back there to make sure they got the order. Another 20 minutes pass, no steak, so I ask AGAIN. Bartended says I will check in a minute ( he is wiping down glasses ). I said send a manager and the girl next to him gets a look from him.. she s the manager . So she goes into the kitchen. Finally the steaks and fries come out fries not fresh or hot, steak not even luke warm. I tell them how bad it is and another manager comes over with an apology tour with an offer of a free dessert (like I want more of their food )? Anything else I can do? She asks. Me: figure out what is so messed up at the restaurant that this happens. No comp Or discount on the meal . Chip and Joanne would have been humiliated. MORAL: don t order from the bar or go in later in the evening.

The Parmesan popovers were inedible, and the pasta was absolutely flavorless and disappointing for being $18. My husband got an old fashion and said it was watery and did not really taste like an old fashion at all. He got the pork chop and it came out cold. The service also so very very slow. Our bill ended being almost $100 and I felt really disappointed to pay that much for food I did not enjoy. That s like 4 tables already !!! And she is just ignoring us even we are standing literally in front of her !!! That was enough my friend told her : excuse me, ma am you didn t help us yet, and we came here before all of those people and we have reservation and we had been waiting here good 25 minutes , So she finally helped us didn t apologize for the long wait didn t greet us and was very rude, could be great experience, if not hostess lady at the front door . The atmosphere was absolutely stunning and beautiful; however, our customer service experience was not the best. Hearing so many amazing things about the hotel, I was disappointed. I understand that there is room for error when restaurants are newly opened but this was just bad customer service altogether. Our bartender and bar back were openly talking about how their paychecks continue to be messed up, that the bar backs at one point were making more than a manager + bar tender, then their paychecks and hour wages got adjusted to minimum wage, how people continue to leave and hours are being adjusted, and more. I can understand work frustrations, however we as the customers should not know that information. On top of the work drama that we heard, all of our meals came out at separate times, up to 10-15 mins a part. Our bartender blamed everyone else and continued to make excuses on why mistakes were happening. Lastly, our food was just okay for the price, I don t mind paying money for good quality food, but for mediocre food I will pass. I would not be recommending this place to eat.

Beautiful space. Bland food. This space is oh so beautiful but the menu, price and flavour is completely lacking. If you want any sort of meat or protein it was an additional (unreasonable) upcharge, even on the kids menu. One person in our party ordered the Bow Tie pasta dish which essentially was served as a soggy pasta soup with bitter-tasting veggies. The turkey club came on a burger bun that was odd. It was over-toasted and too crunchy for the sandwich. The kids steamed veggies was plain Brussels sprouts and broccolini which seemed like an odd choice for kids. Our kids love greens and had no problems with the odd choice of veggies but I m sure the average family would have a tough time convincing their child to eat plain Brussels. The kids grilled cheese came on very plain white bread with American cheese that looked Other than the design, there was nothing to write home about. The waitress was nice. But the food was more than a disappointment. It would be more appealing to go to a smaller local restaurant that serves more intentional, creative, local dishes for the same if not cheaper price or drive to Austin for a fun location. Magnolia is gifted at design and it s truly a beautiful space. Just could use a revamp of the menu, and maybe more time to train their staff for the experience to match the price tag and live up to patrons expectations. Would have been so cool to see Magnolia partner with local farmers to create a more farm to table experience that bodies healthier, local and more creative dishes that also supports the local economy.

This review is going to be long and critical because at this price point I hold a restaurant to a higher standard. Plus it s new and they might care about my 2¢ This restaurant has good bones but could make some small changes that would make a huge difference. Food: I don t understand what some people are saying about the food. It s solid by any standard. The Korean wings were decent and we enjoyed the pickled cucumbers that came with them. Our party of 7 tried everything off the entree menu except the burger and it was all good. Chicken fried steak was HUGE. The pork chop undoubtedly stole the show. Truly spectacular and better than the steak dare I say. We did not order dessert. Service: The hostess was very sweet and accommodating (Blonde). I witnessed her quite gracefully turn away a group in front of us because they weren t taking walk-ins. So shoutout that chick. Our waitress Kianna rocked. She was knowledgeable on all menu items we asked about, kind, and punctual. Only small service mistakes like the food runners forgetting sharing plates and some lemons we requested were a little late to come out. However these are rather forgettable and I m being critical. Atmosphere/Facilities: There s no denying the interior design is top notch. Well done by the Magnolia team. BUT (big but), if we re spending fancy money and dining in a fancy setting can we PLEASE not play 70 s hits. Don t get me wrong they re all bangers and I love Cat Stevens but COME ON. It brings the vibe down 2 tax brackets Next. The bathrooms. Looked nice but there s a gaping gap in the stall doors. Lame. This place is far too nice to not have paper towels or linens. Joanna, if you re reading this, we don t want blow dryers. Makes me feel like I m at a quick trip. I don t care if it s a Dyson. Probably the most egregious offense was that three of the stalls in the women s room didn t have toilet paper. That s bad. Lastly our table was wobbly. All in all this place has potential to be superb and I d say it s good but slightly disappointing at this price range. Just some small changes need to happen. I d definitely come back to check out the rooftop and the cocktails. Their take on the old fashion looked yum. But overall good work guys.

The Brasserie at Hotel 1928 We came for lunch on Christmas Eve this year. The Hotel 1928 was the hotel that Chip and Joanna renovated in Waco. After watching their show, we decided to come eat while driving by through. The hotel is beautiful, so make sure you explore (and for sure go to the library). Parking is valet, it costs like $13 (and they do pay all via their website, so you can do this without cash). Reservations - go ahead and book them online via resy (or they can direct you there from their website). The service was good, they were very attentive with refilling drinks. Now for the food Cowboy Caviar - we got this as the appetizer. It was good, we scooped the bowl clean. It was light but good to have something to munch on til the main dishes made it. (Also, real talk looking around, I might have gotten the biscuits instead because those ended up looking really good.) Salmon - this was my main meal. It was good flavor. Came with brussel sprouts and rice as the sides. This was good. Burger - my wife got this (but I ended up snacking on this too). This was really good. Arguably better than the salmon, but definitely a heavier meal. The fries is came with were phenomenal (and the surprise star of the meal). I d probably get this next time we come. Turkey Club - my mom got this. She said it was very filling. She liked the avocado on it. It also came with fries. Overall, vibes-wise it was really cute. It made for a great fancy Sunday lunch. But would also be good for a nicer date night or a special occasion (maybe a Baylor graduation). Price-wise it was a bit pricey, like we spent approx $100 for 3 people, but I thought it was good and was really glad we went.

First, our waitress was amazing. She did a great job given the situation the restaurant put her in. They were definitely understaffed. The restaurant was beautiful! However, it had its quirks. My family and I met up with my sisters and their families for lunch. There were 6 adults, 3 children -ages 6, 3 and 2 - and an infant in our party. The restaurant had a kids menu leading us to believe it was at least mildly kid friendly. It was not. The restaurant only had small glass cup, nothing else to drink out of. Later, I needed to change my infant s diaper and there was not a changing table in any restrooms. The food I ordered the salmon that was supposed to come with brussel sprouts and rice pilaf. Instead the $25 meal came out with bland, basic white rice. The salmon and brussels were good. My husband ordered the burger, also $25, which he said was alright. My brother in law ordered the club sandwich which came on a hamburger bun. Again, just unexpected for a club sandwich. In general, the food was good, but not what you d expect for the higher price tag. I accept part of the price tag is the name recognition of the restaurant and it is what it is. I knew that going in. Also, the food took a long time to come out of the kitchen after we ordered. Overall the experience was underwhelming and I won t be going back.

Went for dinner for the first time here with my wife and MIL. Here is my honest review of this establishment. Our first impression was how great the atmosphere was. The whole place is styled very nicely, and it feels very homey, cozy, an a little classy too. I was surprised when my wife asked if she could substitute mashed potatoes for the fries that came with the steak and fries, and we were told by the waitress that the chef absolutely refuses to do any substitutions. Apparently he spent a lot of time designing the menu to give certain experiences and doesnt want the customer to ruin that or something. I understand that to some extent, but to be completely honest, that is the first time in my whole life that I have been told that we cant make a substitution for a side. I experienced having an extra charge for exchanging a side, but have never been told flat-out no. That came off a little pretentious to me, but we just moved on and ordered the salmon. My salmon was cooked fine and the glaze was good, but I wasnt overly impressed with it. The rice pilaf severely under-seasoned; I am not sure there was even any salt on it. That being said the brussels sprouts stole the show. They were cooked to perfection and had a delicious salty-sweet soy sauce-based seasoning, so delicious! We also ordered drinks, and unfortunately, we didnt receive them until after we had gotten our food and pretty much completely finished out meal. The restaurant was not particularly busy that night so I wasnt sure why it took so long. Our waitress was not particularly attentive, she didnt come to check on us for a long time so we werent able to ask her about our late drinks for a long time. We also ran out of water very quickly and didnt have a chance to ask for refills until were basically done with our meal. Overall, the food and service need some improvement, but I really enjoyed the atmosphere. Was my plate worth the 30-something dollars I spent on it? Ehh, probably not, but I think I may come back just for those brussels sprouts!

I visited the restaurant recently and had a less than satisfactory experience. The unclean tables were off-putting, and the delayed orders, coupled with slow service, left much to be desired. Improvement in cleanliness and efficiency is crucial for a better dining experience.

Had a fantastic bday dinner for my wife. 17 in our party and everyone had a great time and the service and food was excellent. Some of the favorites: Korean chicken wings, cornbread, biscuits, burger, chicken fried steak, banana pudding desert.

Nice place very aesthetically pleasing I had the Korean wings as a meal with a side of the sweet potato s I was thinking they would be crispy but they re more soft like a casserole other than that I loved the wings so yummy and the cucumber salad it came with was so good. I wasn t a fan of the latte I got a simple vanilla latte and it was butter but maybe I just ordered it wrong. Anyways I still would go back to try something different and take my family!

Being that this location is new, one would think that it would present better. We had breakfast here at 9am, the floors were dirty, the tables were stained, the water glasses were dirty. We were not offered straws, the service was slow. There s dust all around the vents. Also, no deviations from the menu, even when expressing that you have food allergies. I m very disappointed and would ve expected a better experience.

We had the best dining experience at The Brasserie! The atmosphere is beautiful, the food was amazing but best of all was the incredible service by our server, Avery. It really made the end of our weekend trip so special; we can t wait to come again!

Staff was great. Location looks nice. Food was not good, especially considering the price point. Spent $170 between two people, and the best thing we had was fries.

Food was subpar unfortunately. The banana pudding had no vanilla wafers (only crumbs on top), the salmon was well cooked but the sauce was super sweet, and the pasta was under spiced and the sauce was very watery on it. We were also seated in a larger dining space but the tables were super close together and the lighting was brighter. For an evening date night the vibes weren t there. I would have rather sat at the bar. The cocktails we had were tasty though along with the biscuits. I ll give it another try, but for the price it was underwhelming.

Do yourself a favor and visit the Brasserie as soon as possible. Our server, Jill, was amazing and the food was to die for! Highly recommend the pimento cheese and ricotta pancakes for brunch! The atmosphere is gorgeous of course. Very elevated while still casual.

Went to the brassiere for our anniversary. Food was very good, but atmosphere was top notch. After we ate we explored the hotel. There are so many places to sit and just relax. The vibe is totally different than anything in Waco. I would recommend for any special occasion or just a place to relax and have great conversation.

The Brasserie just secured its position as the BEST restaurant in Central Texas. One would expect this level of service/food at a 5 star restaurant in a larger city but that same quality now exists right here in Waco. Food was incredible (best kale salad!) and the hotel is unlike anything Waco s ever seen. If I was forced to complain about something, I d say the cocktails were a little light and the noise was a bit loud. Not a deal breaker by any means. WILL BE BACK AGAIN AND AGAIN and AGAIN!

Went for dinner with a friend and was pleasantly surprised! Ambience was amazing and service was great. We got the biscuits for an appetizer, steak for my entree, and split a side of the mac and cheese and the sweet potatoes (definitely my favorite). We were too full to try any dessert but will definitely be returning! Also worth noting that after dinner you can take the elevator up to the top floor to check out the rooftop bar!

Stopped in for lunch with the kiddos and left stuffed and impressed. The atmosphere goes without saying when you have the Magnolia team behind it. Service was prompt, although when we went it was 3:30ish on a Monday afternoon. We were seated immediately and had drinks in hand about 2 minutes later. Our group got to experience the half-booth table which reminded me of a posh, high-end eatery in Europe. Food was delicious, of course. I enjoyed the 1928 Burger and fries while others at our table feasted on a kale salad, steak-burg salad and the kids devoured grilled cheese and chicken flanks. One drawback was the 1 oz glass of local bourbon that set me back $7... gone before I realized it. Perhaps larger pours would be best? I couldnt fathom paying double for an extra ounce. We also toured the upstairs patio and wandered the lobby, admiring the artistry. If anything, its definitely worth the stop even if you dont plan on eating.

My husband and I visited The Brasserie for dinner just a couple of weeks after its remarkably quiet opening. The atmosphere is beautiful and unlike anything else in Waco. Having moved to Waco from NYC a decade ago, we havent seen a space like this in 10 years. All of the details are thoughtful: the lighting is warm and inviting; the music volume and table spacing were ideal for conversation without too much distraction or losing your voice shouting over the surrounding din. The space is also unique in that diners would feel comfortable in jeans and a sweater or something more formal--it can be dressed up or dressed down. My husband and I had a play to catch just after dinner so didnt have time to linger, sadly. We ordered drinks and entrees right away. The menu is strong; all options and descriptions are appealing and price points are very reasonable. The food presentation was also appealing and the flavors are there. I will also put a plug in for the craft cocktail menu which includes a few delicious spirit-free mocktails! We ordered steak frites and the pork chop. Both were full of flavor, but we waited a long time for our meals, and when they arrived, the temperature suggested theyd been sitting for a while, waiting for a runner. It wasnt cold, but it wasnt right off the fire either. My steak (ordered medium) had had time to continue cooking until there was no pink left. And the fries, while tasty and still crisp on the outside, were a little cold. I think service staff probably has some wrinkles to smooth out in terms of timing, but the food was tasty and The Brasserie is a welcome addition to Waco! Definitely go and try it! Parking: Approaching the entrance on the street, it would appear that valet is the only option, but you can find street parking nearby with a short walk to the restaurant. Kid-friendliness: While it didnt feel that kids were unwelcome by any means, I wouldnt bring picky eaters, nor toddlers and younger.

Great experience, food to everyone taste in my family of 4. I had an appetizer: roasted beet salad, so unique and amazing combination. My family loved corn bread and biscuits with soft butter, delicious. Main meals:salmon, steak, burger, and pasta were cooked to order. Great atmosphere. Our server was very attentive and knowledgeable. And, finally, desert:apple fritters with caramel sauce made in house was absolutely perfect. We will definitely be back.

Get yourself a call-ahead!!! I ve been watching and waiting for this to open and this team DELIVERED! We went on day 1 which is always risky with restaurants but this team was so well-prepared it didn t feel like day 1 other than the collective excitement and pride of their team which was just delightful! Atmosphere: Enchanting. To me, prettiest place in Waco/best vibes because not only is the restaurant beautiful but the greater context is a treat as you can also wander the hotel, replete with details like a Larry McMurtry s typewriter (author of Lonesome Dove) and find a drink on the menu called Lonesome Dove . Wandering the halls will be a joy for long-time Wacoans as they peruse the many historic downtown Waco photos that adorn the walls. Cozy chairs and inviting nooks with mood lighting to lose track of time with friends, a book or a game of chess are at every turn. Food: Wow. I got the 1928 Burger medium well and it was so flavorful and didn t need anything. The bun was fresh and soft. Our hand cut fries were initially overdone as in the photo but the manager, Taylor Munsch , made it right very quickly and brought us not only the fries done right but also some pastries to make amends. We got the coffee cake and the croissant. Y all. I ve said this for years but I haven t found anyone who does a croissant quite like the ones I ve had in France but this was darn close! It was warm and fresh and had the crisp, necessarily mess-making exterior and soft layers on the inside. The moist coffee cake was also served warm with a gooey crumble with tart berries on top. A treat! Service: Our server, Atyssa, was great and knowledgeable about the food. Thank you to whomever trained the Brasserie team and had the wisdom to have them taste everything they are serving such that when I asked Atyssa what she liked, she could actually speak with conviction about all the food!! Well done!! The manager, Taylor, who helped us was also friendly and wonderful and asked for feedback. Conclusion: I am thrilled. I m so impressed and excited by what the Magnolia team in partnership with AJ Capital have created. It s a beautiful tribute to Waco and captures the heart of hospitality and excellence. I m so proud to show it off as a Wacoan!
