We went for the planetarium. We were pleasantly surprised by the museum. It had several dinosaur skeletons, which my husband loved. There was an exhibit on 1800s fashion that I really enjoyed. The planetarium show of Dawn of the Space Age was just okay, IMO. It was from 2005, so almost 20 years old. It did have good information, but the colors of the movie were not vivid.

This place is free and has air conditioning, whats not to love. The walkway leading up to the entrance has some very nice native wildflowers growing there. They also have some interesting and wide variety of exhibits. Its nice that you can get really close to the exhibits as well. The planetarium doesnt cost much per person and occasionally they have kid focused showings. You cannot take water into the museum, theyll give you a quarter for the lockers and there is no re-entry for the planetarium once the show starts. They also have a decent sized gift shop on the way to the planetarium. Definitely a good stop and kids will find things there interesting.

A wonderful museum on the edge of the Texas Tech campus. The galleries display art, mesoamerican, artifacts, dinosaurs, taxidermy, native American artifacts, and historical objects. There is no admission fee and the building is air conditioned, so its a great way to beat the summer heat in West Texas. The temporary exhibits change roughly every three months, meaning theres always something new to look at every time you visit. Theres also a cafe serving coffee and simple baked goods during the week.

I am pretty disappointed in the state of the museum these days. I have visited twice this year with about two months in between visits. The first time I came there were very few exhibits actually on display, and there are a lot of things that need maintenance; such as lights going out, dusty exhibits with trash thrown in them. This time there were some new exhibits that appeared to be haphazardly thrown together with cords hanging out and labels peeling off, and most of the museum is still empty. I have been coming here since I was a child and it s sad to see so little care put into the curation and maintenance of this museum.

The beautiful history of all the peoples of Lubbock Texas. Native Americans to Early Settlers in Dugouts, Sod houses & Homesteads. A Rich Ranching History filled with Cowgirls & Cowboys & Rodeo . Business of all types in & around Hub City & surrounding counties. Lets not forget Texas Tech! From the ground up & out! What an accomplishment! I bet every family in the panhandle has a story of a long-ago or current relative who was in on design, building, planning, working, or attending Tech.

Fond memories of this museum--dad would often take me and grandad to visit when I was a small child. I remember the first dinosaur skeleton they had on exhibit and then the mastodon and replica of the prehistoric human skull. I think this experience left an indelible mark upon my psyche, forever igniting a curiosity and passion for science. I hope to visit again some day. Admission is free. Dont forget about the planetarium.

Lots of artifacts from the area but few clear themes except for school related items. Other than school, the majority that I saw was art related. Three or four of the exhibit areas were closed at the same time for restaging although no one was working on them. They need recommendations/directions for viewing, as many exhibits have multiple entrances to each area.
