This place is so overrated. The food is average. We both had the filet, and it was flavorless. The service is slow and terrible. It was not even busy when we were up there. The bar is woefully small, and the bartender is not good. I paid 20 bucks for a very below average old fashioned. Spend your money elsewhere.

We were easily able to make a reservation for a Saturday evening for our party of 4. As out of town tourists and Magnolia fans, we knew it would be good. We were all beyond pleased with our experience! From the first interaction with our exceptional hostess, Jill, to the after dinner stroll on the rooftop, it was all sensational! Jill was so professional and kind, with the perfect qualities of a hostess. She was friendly, polite, knowledgeable, attentive without being intrusive, and a pure delight! For starters, we ordered the cornbread with honey butter and seasonal jam as well as the cowboy caviar, both melt in your mouth delicious! We shared our entrees and 2 meals for 2 couples was just right. Our friends got the cheeseburger with steak fries and said it was the best ever. We had cedar plank salmon with Brussels sprouts and rice pilaf. While the entire entree was yummy, the Brussels sprouts were phenomenal! Another perk of sharing a meal was that we had room for dessert! The biscuit peach cobbler was incredible as was the Dr. Pepper cake! Everyone agreed it was the favorite dinner meal we had on our trip, which included many awesome dinners!!

Waste of time! We arrived at our reserved time, hostess seemed annoyed we spoke to her, however she took us to our table. We sat there for 5 minutes with no one coming to greet or even serve us water - as the table behind us was seated and instantly given water. I went to the hostess stand and asked the hostess who begrudgingly walked over and finally gave us water, and didnt speak a word the entire process. We sat there and waited another few minutes and still no one came to the table for our order - FYI the place is not that big. Finally had enough and got up and left. Place looked nice, food quality unknown, pathetic service and treatment. DO BETTER!

The perfect place! Lauren was our server and she was the most respectful, considerate , engaging , professional, funny, attentive server I ve had in ages . She really made our dining experience a most memorable one! She is management material for sure. She presented some of the best tasting dishes anywhere in the Waco area, well done chefs and kitchen staff, we went home more than satisfied! I will definitely recommend this place to anyone interested in a fine dining experience in the heart of Texas . Parking: Prompt, courteous valet parking.

Jill was a fabulous server offering suggestions for dinner choices and answering our questions with patience and poise. Dinner was perfect! I had the salmon and changed up the sides to my liking which was not a problem with Jill. My husband had the filet which was tender and cooked perfectly to his liking. Dr. Pepper brownie was amazing. More specialty martini choices and appetizer choices would have been nice, but overall it was a great experience! Bertie s was a wonderful choice for dinner !!

I am very disappointed with the way everything was running. Me and a couple of my friends ended up going to the rooftop because the down stairs bar was over capacity and there wasnt any bartenders that could service us! The upstairs only had ONE bartender & i think her name was ALEX and she was WONDERFUL ! very fast and productive she tried her best to get all of us serviced as fast as she could ! she was so sweet and lovely , she also made us laugh while she made the drinks ! GO ALEX . Hopefully alex leaves and finds something worth her potential !

We had reservations and were seated right away. The service was very slow. We were seated next to the restroom and couldnt see the serving window. The bathroom view wasnt great, considering when we got there, there were many open tables. The food sat in the window for a long time before it was served. The food was OK, nothing special and cold by the time we got it. I had high expectations but was disappointed. I probably wouldnt go again.

We were in town and saw the rooftop and thought how fun that would be for dinner. Little did we know the service from the entire staff would be excellent. Gabby is a beautiful person and brings her passion to please, her ability and explain different dishes and what to expect is genuine. We had fun with some signature cocktails, views from the rooftop and laughs in the restaurant. The theme from the roaring 30s is perfect. To be able to model and create the feel is magical. I want to dress in the era and come back. Fantastic evening. Thanks to the entire staff for a job well done.

Overpriced drinks and terrible service. A friend and I stood at the bar for almost 15 minutes and weren t as much as acknowledged (it was only 7pm and there were only two other people at the bar). The bar tender spilled a lot of my drink and handed the glass to me all wet and sticky, not even bothering to wipe the glass or hand me a napkin. My friend ordered wine and her glass looked dirty and spotted. We won t be back.

The rooftop was great, my daughter loved it. The food in the restaurant, not so great. My husband rarely complains about food, but he felt the Wild Mushroom Risotta completely missed the mark. My salmon was nothing to boast about and the side of rice pilaf tasted like rice soaked in butter. Definitely overpriced for the quality.

Before coming here, I read some of the reviews about poor service and I was really worried. However, when my girlfriend and I visited for a birthday dinner, we were given amazing service by Kimberly. She was very friendly and chatted with us about being a fellow Baylor Student. We both ordered the salmon and brussel sprouts and let me just say, as someone who typically isnt a HUGE fun of brussel sprouts, those were fire (fire = good) for those who may not understand. Salmon was very good as well, would recommend trying. So, do not worry about the past reviews, the service is good I promise you.

The price does not match the quality of the food. Although the service and ambience were good, it did feel overpriced in my opinion. Not to say the food was bad despite my wife s burger needed to be cooked well done once over after it was initially served. The crispy potatoes were good.

This place was absolutely magical for more than just the delicious food, great service, and wonderful atmosphere. We got ENGAGED here after dinner with the view of Waco in the background. The cheesiest cheeseburger was top 10, one of the best burgers Ive had. The roasted sweet potatoes were scrumptious, and the filet dinner with smashed potatoes and roasted broccolini was perfection. This place is absolutely worth the trip to Waco!

It s too bad looks can t make up the whole experience. My girlfriend and I were very excited to enjoy our Valentine s dinner at the new Magnolia hotel. We were excited to see the thought-child of Chip and Joanna in real life and enjoy the cuisine. The uniquely designed space would turn out to be the only good thing this night. Bad food, bad service, and evident tension amongst the staff resulted in a $100 down the drain and a new place to keep off the list of restaurants that I would frequent. The food was an attempt but a miss in the end, as I left still hungry because of the small portion sizes. Not only were we met with negatives, as the waiter listed off the things they didn t have in stock, we noticed the tension amongst workers as they evidently struggled to manage the dinner rush. After dinner, we moved down to the bar to enjoy some drinks and eat some dessert (to hopefully get our mind off the wasted opportunity which was Bertie s). Besides the confusion on where to sit, I enjoyed a wonderful drink made by a not so wonderful bartender who didn t hide her face of I don t want to be here . This attitude continued and was the first impression we were introduced to as we grabbed a seat at a table that remained dirty for 10 minutes, and after waiting for an additional 5 we just settled for the opportunity to sit down. After not being acknowledged for a longer than wanted period of time, we finally ordered the crème brûlée cheesecake. The first time trying this dish and will definitely be my last. If I wanted to pay $9 for a spin on something that tasted like Chobani Greek yogurt I would ve gone to HEB. The custard tasted spoiled and the person who flamed the sugar on top was definitely having fun with his flamethrower as we tried to consume inedible char. I ve never left a dessert on the table and am one to look in disgust at those who would waste a dessert. That being said we took three bites and that was enough for me to accept my hypocrisy. We were able to enjoy ourselves and the company but the food and experience did not have the impact and influence we expected. I will return for the chess and drinks but I ll make sure to spend my food money at a place where I know I can be fed well and in proper portion.

I watched this restaurant being built on TV and had to try it out! We flew into town to see you guys. AMAZING!! Loved the food, the ambiance, and the craft cocktails. Your bourbon old fashioned was better than Blanton s, so keep that one on the menu. Had the mushroom risotto and my husband had the burger, which were both very good risotto was a large potion and the fries that came with the burger were plentiful too. Highly recommend! P.s. We were a little worried because of the prior reviews but all I can say about those are this: 1. Baylor students, find a day job and stop complaining about how you cannot stay in your yoga pants all day and buy a cup of coffee and bombard the hotel with your very unwanted presence. You are ruining it for everyone. 2. The food is great y all. And consider the source of the comments that say it isn t.

Really enjoyed this restaurant experience! I thought the food was really good. We had the salmon and the sea bass. For appetizers we did the deviled eggs, skillet cornbread and roasted beets salad and shared everything between the three of us. It worked out perfectly and we enjoyed trying several things. I look forward to returning another time when it s warmer and we can go out on the rooftop patio. Great job Chip & Joanna! It makes me so happy to see this come together for you!

We ate at the berties rooftop restaurant the week after it opened and absolutely loved it! However we came back for my birthday dinner and was completely disappointed. It took forever to get anything ordered. The appetizer was burnt black. After 3 tries on making a burger correctly and the last one being raw i ended up not eating dinner at my birthday dinner. No compensation for the terrible experience. We will not be returning all of the service was more irritated than apologetic and i felt very disrespected.

Stopped by for cocktails, dinner, & dessert. Had the mushroom risotto but felt it needed just a little more seasoning. Roasted cauliflower soup was yummy too but also needed a little more seasoning. We ordered dessert: crème brûlée & Dr P cake. The top of the Crème brûlée was a little too salty but the Dr. P cake was delicious! Cocktails were AMAZING & strong. I had the Old Fashioned & my sister had the Manhattan. Service was great!! Overall, even though the food wasn t as spectacular as the skyline, I feel that Bertie s is open to suggestions on improving their food quality and that very soon, it will be great too! After dinner, our group sat outside by the fire pit overlooking many iconic Waco downtown buildings & chatted. NOTE, we didn t know that you DON T need reservations to sit outside & order cocktails. It s first come, first served. The staff said that there is cocktail service on the Rooftop. Hello!! We ll be back.

The views and vibes are really what Bertie s is all about. The food is well done but the menu is not super exciting. Service is still being figured out. If you re staying at the hotel it s great for a standard night out (though Waco has lots of more exciting food options to offer). Locals this is worth it at least once for the experience. Would be cool to see them get a more unique chef / menu. We got the mushroom risotto and the sea bass. Our waiter suggested adding crispy pancetta to the risotto and it definitely took it up a notch. The sauce on the sea bass was very tasty. Brunch was a similar experience. My chicken biscuit with fries was good. Drinks are fine enough. I recently dined at this establishment and was impressed by the exceptional customer service from start to finish. The hosts, Paige, warm welcome, set the tone for a delightful dining experience. Their attentiveness and efficiency in managing reservations contributed to a smooth beginning. Our server, Jeanne, was attentive and personable. She provided helpful recommendations and ensured our needs were met throughout the meal. Jeannes professionalism and friendly demeanor enhanced our dining experience. The overall service was excellent, creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere. The staff exhibited a genuine commitment to customer satisfaction, making the visit memorable. Adding to the charm of the evening was the rooftop view, which was simply spectacular. The ambiance complemented the delicious food, creating a perfect backdrop for a memorable dining experience. In conclusion, this restaurant excels not only in culinary offerings but also in providing top-notch service. From the welcoming host to the attentive server and the stunning rooftop views, every aspect contributed to a thoroughly enjoyable evening. I highly recommend this establishment for those seeking a combination of great food and outstanding customer service.

Experience was horrible, was told ahead of time we could bring in an outside birthday cake and just had to pay a cake cutting fee. Brought in a custom cake on my birthday only to be told their chef wouldn t allow it after we had already been seated and ordered a round of drinks. Paid for our mimosa that we didn t drink and left with our cake. Our server looked at us so sadly when he had to tell us his chef s orders as he knew it was my special day. He told us the idea of the cake is okay, but you can t actually eat it here. So it can just sit on the table for show lol?! Went to Milo s down the road for a phenomenal brunch!! Best we ve had in Waco and the atmosphere was great!! Our server there brought us extra plates and silverware for our cake on the house and even asked to video us cutting into it because the cake was so pretty. Bertie s should take some notes on how Milo s runs their customer service scene.

We definitely loved Bertie s! Something to be aware of that may not be clear from the name is that the restaurant itself is indoor (top floor of the hotel), but there is an outdoor lounge area with a bar and fire pits with a view of the city that you can sit at before/after dinner. We got the Cowboy Caviar as an appetizer and it was fantastic - definitely coming back just for that! I got the salmon which was also delicious, and the Brussels sprouts it came with had an amazing sauce. My husband got the chicken and it was good, but not incredible. Our cocktails were delicious - not sure the names but their version of a French 75 and a bananas foster type drink. With the outdoor lounge area and the other areas throughout the hotel we will definitely be back both for dinner and enjoying the space! Wheelchair accessibility: Elevator up to the restaurant floor and ramp to the outdoor lounge area

What a beautiful place! Everything we ordered was top notch, from the drinks to the desserts! Berties has an avocado and apple cocktail that is a fantastic surprise. We ordered the salmon, and the risotto and both were seasoned perfectly. Our waitress Jeannie is divine! She made us feel at home and made sure that none of the dishes conflicted with my oh so annoying food allergies. The only negatives I have are the restaurant can get a bit loud as there is very little to dampen sound (we had a table next to us at the beginning with a person whose voice could cut glass and were so happy when they left) and there was only one bathroom for the restaurant that I could find, and there was ALWAYS a line to it. Overall my husband and I loved Berties. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options! Tons of them!

We booked a dinner reservation for 4pm on the day we got into Waco with our infant daughter. On the website, it said there might be a $10 cancellation fee. We booked for three people and indicated in the notes that it was two adults and one infant (stroller). Unfortunately, our daughter was having a horrible afternoon, so we decided to cancel 90 minutes before our reservation. We assumed that we might have a $10 charge, but we hoped that since it wasn t during rush hour and we let them know in advance, they would show grace. The next day, we were charged $30. We called and tried to reason with them, explaining our circumstances, but they refused to refund us. We were already having a not so great day, and we didn t want to force everyone in the restaurant to deal with a screaming baby, but I guess that means we had to pay the restaurant $30.

First off, its worth noting that youre not dining outside on the rooftop (slightly misleading name, but its because they built an enclosed dining room on the roof). You CAN step outside from the dining area and be out on the rooftop lounge area / bar. The service was fantastic. I had made a reservation online and checked a box to indicate it was to celebrate our anniversary. Upon arriving and checking in, the hostess congratulated us on our anniversary. She showed us to our table, and then our waitress came over and congratulated us. That alone felt special, but truly the whole night was awesome. Staff were very attentive, helpful, and knowledgeable. Food was delicious, see pictures. We had the Texas Salsa, which is less of a traditional salsa and more of a cowboy caviar (just a wonderful selection of fresh things minced up and mixed). We also had the Chicken Paillard and the Cheesiest Cheeseburger for main entrees. Atmosphere was classy and detailed, yet relaxing. Joanna & Chip Gaines really outdid themselves on this project. Waco really needed something like this!
