Barney Smith's Toilet Seat Art Museum (located inside Truck Yard The Colony) showcases the life’ s work of Barney Smith, who created over 1400 art pieces out of toilet seats over the course of many decades. Barney opened the original museum in 1992 in a large garage in his backyard. When we saw Barney’s spectacular collection of eclectic, whimsical and charming art, and heard that Barney was ready to retire, we knew Truck Yard was the museum’s perfect next home. This museum is free and open to the public during business hours. NOTE: On occasion, the museum will be rented for private parties and may be unavailable for viewing.

This was one of the coolest and most unique museums I have ever been too! I honestly did not know what to expect when I heard about it, and seeing it in person was just awesome. So much time, effort, and passion put into this art. I love seeing people take the unloved and weird items and turn them into something more special. Like the saying goes: One man s trash is another man s treasure. How true. Loved learning about the artist Barney Smith and glad we are able to enjoy his work. Can t wait to take friends to this place!!

First time visiting this Truck Yard location on a couples night out - two couples, after work. We walked around to take it all in. Our first stop were for drinks at the bar on the first floor. Plenty of beer options and enough wine and booze options to keep most drinkers happy. We then made our way up to the second floor to walk through the Barney Smith Toilet Seat Museum. Absolutely worth it! Just about all decades and all interests represented: on toilet seats. A pleasant and fun surprise. Talk about a great way to start the evening and conversations! Barney got creative with the toilet seats. What a great setting for taking social media pics and videos for Instagram, Tik Tok and Snapchat. Each seat carries a story and a near instant conversation. Good for young and old to visit. Truck Yard and the Barney Smith Toile Seat Museum ought to be on the short list of places to take out-of-town visitors and/or, lets hang here while we put our game plan together. May end up staying here the whole night. Can make this the first or the last stop. . .regardless: youd have to work hard not to have fun here any night of the week! Coming back here on a Thurs. - Sat., and definitely Spring/Summer. Looks like it is loads of fun.

Terrific Toilet Treasure Trove. Free entry, hundreds of toilet seats. There are some remarkable artifacts and art, in fact. Pieces of Route 66, the Challenger wreckage, Christs Tomb, and many other bits and bobs that leave an impression on you, much like a toilet seat might do to the bottom of your thighs. Barney Smith spent years as a plumbing teacher before devoting himself full-time to making toilet seat art. The collection is home to many pieces of Barneys past, which just happens to include many facets of the traditions of Americana. Toilets devoted to friends, family, fans, foreign nations and every state in the Union can be found underneath the Michaelangelic ceiling fresca. The Toilet Seat Art Museum acts as the cherry-on-top of the eclectically decorated, American Picker-esque, Truck Yard. Highly recommended for a short visit or an extended stay with drinks.

As of February 2019 The Museum is now closed! No more appointments. Barney shared his museum with San Antonio and the rest of the world for over 26 years! At age 97 he decided it was time to transition out of the museum business. Luckily Barneys Toilet Seat Art will live on in the near future at a roadside attraction in the Dallas area at the Truck Yard in The Colony. I dont have information on when the museum Phase II will open. Barney the artist will be staying in San Antonio.
