This is one of the First authentic Sichuan restaurants opened in Sugar Land! I still remember the excitement 6 years ago of yummy food without having to drive to Chinatown. Some classic authentic Sichuan dishes that we always enjoyed : Mr and Mrs Smith, broken-heart jelly , spicy dumplings, hot-boiled series (fish, beef, pork, mixed). My daughter doesn t like spicy, so a nonauthentic Sichuan dish sweet and sour ribs .

Food to me tasted fine but my gf said she felt the beef was a bit off. Se Had the Beef Love ToFu. Her taste buds are better than mine. My taste buds hate cilantro. Dont go here if you hate cilantro. No where on the menu does it say they put cilantro on anything but 2 of our 3 dishes had cilantro all over it. We did have to have the kitchen remake the beef dish because the cilantro was diced up in the food, and I did confirm the menu did not say cilantro anywhere on the menu. Like I said, they remade it but then the beef tasted off to one of us. Waiter was ok, I did ask for water 2 different times and well, lets just say we left to get drinks elsewhere at this point. If you expect good service and onpoint menu descriptions, then dont go here. If you like being surprised with ingredients you might be allergic to (yes allergic to cilantro), then sure go here.

This restaurant has my favorite meal spicy chicken cube. I am so happy that a friend introduced me to this place because I have tried many iterations of this meal, but nothing has satisfied my taste buds like the cooking girl s version. I have it at least once a month. I do not care about many other options, although the combo fried rice is delicious, too. I highly recommend you try the spicy chicken cube meal if you like spicy options.

Don t order their fish-flavored shredded pork. There is no shredded pork in it, just a little bit of minced meat, and there s a lot of celery. You can rename it fish-flavored celery shredded food.

I was passing by for lunch and he said he was a Sichuan chef and wanted to test his skills. Two people ordered a beef noodle dish and mapo tofu. Mapo tofu has no meat filling, the tofu is not tasty enough, and the cooking time is short. The beef noodles are tasty enough and the spiciness is OK. The overall level is pretty good.

Food has declined . Spicy crispy chicken used to be good a few years ago.. it used to be spicy actual chicken and crispy. since then the chicken seems to be some fake bland pastey chicken nuggets meat. It used to be good like the one they have now at mala restaurant in sugar Land. I gave it another two chances and this third time was still a failure. I definitely will not be going back. Its too bad because it was very aconvenient location. Ill drive the extra 2 miles to get proper spicy crispy chicken. I wish I could give a better review..

This is the first time my family and I visited the restaurant after they moved. They didnt move far, just down the strip to a smaller space. Gone were the poetry on their wall. The owner still kept the greenery on their wall as before. Their bar caught our eyes from outside. Once in, the slow piano filled the air, a different ambience from their previous place. Their service was fast. On a cold night like last night, we appreciated their hot vegetable soup. All the dishes were piping hot. We like the new place better than their old one!

Cooking Girl is very good for a quick Chinese food dinner. We went on a Tuesday night and it was very quiet - but the atmosphere is lovely. It is decorated for Christmas now, but even without the decorations, the fixtures and plants and lighting are nice and ambient. The Dan Dan noodles, sichuan beef, and spring rolls are great. Our server even gave us a spice level option after we asked questions. It was extremely quick to come out and everyone was very nice. We also met the chef and he had us sample a new menu item - some rangoons - also very good. Would recommend to anyone in the area.

I wish there were a way to give a negative rating for my experience at this restaurant. The waitress ignored us the entire time we were eating. The food makes you feel thirsty and keep drinking a lot of water. The worst part is that the waitress did not refill our water and never walked to our table. I wonder how much MSG they used in their dishes. Additionally, the meat was excessively greasy, and I felt unwell after just the second piece. The poor service and food quality make me never want to come back. I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone, and I might avoid similar places for a while.

I will never come back to this place.

First time here on a Tuesday. Very quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Our server (Jenny?) was very good. She even greeted us when we came in. We ordered orange chicken just to be safe. Along with a veggie plate. The orange chicken was white meat. Yay! Chicken was crispy on the outside and tender inside. Perfect! The sweetness was NOT overbearing like some places. Our only complaint was they dont have crab puffs/rangoons. Our server was very nice and actually said thank you Oh, the place was very clean as well.

Ive been to Cooking Girl several times and have typically had a good experience. Unfortunately, I ordered the SweetSour Cucumber on doordash and received what is in the image attached. These were basically cucumber slices in a sweet waterish liquid with a dash of vinegar. There were no spices, no chilis, no oil, no garlic. It was very bland. When I drove back to Cooking Girl to ask about it, I was told this is how it comes now for several years, even though it doesnt match the menu picture. When questioned further, I was told they were out of the ingredients (although some of those missing ingredients were in my other dishes). They did make me another dish, which was nice. Overall though, the food quality has declined from when I used to order here. Hope it turns around.

Quiet ambiance music and attentive staff made it a very relaxing meal. I was excited that the staff and many of the customers were Asian and were not speaking English, which usually indicates authentic food with fresh ingredients, and they did not disappoint! The food was delicious; I got the shredded pork with bell pepper. It had a lot of ginger, so I set some aside, but the flavor it left in the rest was amazing. Mom got the sweet & sour ribs, and the sauce was perfect. recommend!

Ive tried two dishes from the location in Sugar Land. You can tell by the taste that both were fresh and made to order. The ingredients were fresh and cooked expertly. The Kung Pao shrimp has nice medium sized shrimp which is accurate size for this dish. It also has vegetables that are not overcooked and still have a good texture unlike other restaurants. The only thing I would recommend is too make it a little more savory and less sweet. Although you can tone down the sweetness with a little Soy sauce. The beef noodle is savory, spicy and hot. It will definitely make your nose run! It has a flavorful and rich broth. The thick rice noodles fills you up. Another suggestion is to shred the beef shank meat and use the fat and bones for the broth. The shank can get a bit chewy. Good luck!

Not exactly as good as it used to be. Not sure what happened, maybe the chef changed but also the quality of food is lower. Meat tasted sort of old in both the beef and fish dishes and flavor is off. Actually I dont even want to give one star... I am totally disappointed with the food & mainly about the service and the way they treated. I went to this place because my wife visited here couple weeks back with her office colleagues and she liked tofu dish so she wanted me to taste the same dish along with other dishes. So me, my wife and my 8yr old kid went to this Cooking Girl Sugarland, for dinner and we ordered 3 dishes. Mapo Tofo( the one my wife liked last time), Spicy Shrimp and dumplings. So, Tofu dish was horrible today may be by mistake they added double times ginger or some other sauces what ever it is but it spoiled our tongue and mouth. Spicy shrimp was salty only dumplings was good. So just after serving into our plates and tasting it we called the main guy and explained him about Tofu dish and asked to take the dish inside and once taste it along with chef. After 5-8 mins one lady came out with the same bowl and telling us that you already finished half bowl and we cant give refund bla bla..... even before we did not say thing about money or bill. Then I also told her we are not expecting any money back and we just served each two spoons into plates and its still in the plates. Also told her that we came here because my wife liked the food here last time... then also she continuously saying okay dish may be bad but we dont cancel it, I said okay leave us and go back with that worse food... Then the guy came with the bill charging us for three dishes, I calmly gave my credit card and asked him-none of you asked us either we want some other dish or prepare the dish again but you brought the bill for three dishes does this looks good for you.??. no answer from him....I said him at-least someone from your restaurant should be nice and apologies when customer is not satisfied... then he was trying to say okay I will take out from the bill...the way he was telling us is like throwing free food to beggars....Then I said no I want to pay in full and he said okay and took the full payment and No Sorry nothing even at the end until we come out..... So I will never try or dare going here, if possible avoid this location.

My family and I have been to Cooking Girl many times and had great experiences. I havent been back since the lockdown in 2020 and thought it would be a great place to enjoy lunch with my mom. For $50, we thought we were going to get a decent meal and service. Unfortunately, we were greatly disappointed. We ordered red dumplings, soup, meat spring rolls for appetizers and pepper twins chicken (comes with steamed rice) for lunch. We expected about a 20-25 minute wait as fresh food takes time to make. We were both shocked to see that, within 2-3 minutes of taking our order, our lunch came out before our appetizers. When our lunch came in, my mom was quite taken aback and asked the server why we didnt get the appetizers first. It is customary in most Asian restaurants to serve soup and appetizers and then lunch. But we got our lunch in 2 minutes (which made us believe that the food was precooked). I dont even know where to begin with lunch... It wasnt even spicy as we had requested and it was loaded with Sichuan peppers - completely numbing our palates, and the dumplings had a funny taste to it. We didnt even bother to speak to the server about it since he and another server were busy sitting on the other side of the restaurant chatting amongst themselves. We then realize that we never got our dumplings. The server never came around to check up on us, so my mom had to call them from across the room to get their attention. I then asked for our dumplings, since we never got them, and the server said that he forgot to put in our order, and came out with the dumplings a minute after. We ran out of water too, and my mom again had to holler across the restaurant to get their attention to get water for us. It was saddening to see Cooking Girl to come to these standards. We used to love this place, but this experience has confirmed that we will never be coming back. Really disappointed.

I had read that this restaurant was was top 10 in Houston for in Houston for their dumplings.. If this is true I need to re-evaluate my taste for dumplings. The order was not taken correctly from the kitchen kitchen, the waiter wrote our order down correctly but the kitchen made ithen made it incorrectly. The best thing about the meal was the fish noodle soup. I read I really would not recommend this place to people who really like Asian food.

The food here is good, but sometimes the service is TERRIBLE. I ordered takeout on the phone, and they said it would be a 20-minute wait. When I got there, I waited for another 15 minutes. When I inquired about my order, a lady with bad attitude said are you sure you ordered at the right location? Not the medical center location? C mon, we ve all lived here long enough to know there are two locations, and on the phone the person literally said hello this is Sugar Land Cooking girl. She said this to other customers too, claiming that everyone somehow ordered at the wrong place and that our order did not exist. I understand that the place can be busy sometimes, but please be honest about the wait time on the phone, instead of leaving the customers hanging once they do get here and then accusing the customers of placing orders at the wrong place.

This is by far my favorite Chinese restaurant in the Houston area even though it is in Sugarland. The restaurant itself is pretty basic but the food is the best. I am working way though their menu. So far every item has been very good. The portions are very large, always enough to take home after. The service is very nice, speedy and polite. If it was closer to me, I would be there most afternoons for lunch.

Looking for a place for some dinner. We wanted a local restaurant that we had yet to try. Cooking girl is the authentic Chinese food that I know and grew up on. Placed our order and picked up the food. Pricing and size are decent for the food that we ordered. Diverse menu to pick and choose what you want. Loved the green beans. The way they cook them is how I enjoy eating. The bao buns and filling were very flavorful. They had the spicy what a chicken that I like and the dandan noodles were cooked just right. We also ordered some tasty salt and pepper shrimp as well. They gave us a big portion of rice to go with the food as well. I can get this food from home, but if I m feeling lazy and in the mood for Chinese I would like to go back again.

To all go to Mala Schezwan on SH-6 better service, excellent food and they honor closing times!

I love food here. I don t believe I have ordered anything here that it is not good. However, the pandemic changed the experience completely. Now the menu has less options, and on top of that, some things of the limited menu are not available. Prices went up, I get it, inflation everywhere, and dish sizes went down, I don t get it.

Weve been frequenting this restaurant for some time now. It is one of our go-to places. Since covid, weve only done take out or delivery from here. Today my husband went to pick up which I ordered for pick up thru Doordash. The food was not ready at its scheduled time. My husband was sent to the front to wait for one last item. After waiting so long a staff member asked what he was waiting on, just to find out the item was cancelled. If they did not have the item, why was he still asked to wait there? He could have left with what was made instead of wasting his time. This is not the first time weve had to wait or come back to pick up an order. I read in a recent review from another customer with the same type of issue. This problem had not been fixed.

What kind of establishment is this? I am a regular patron here. Today, they got my take order completely wrong. The receipt was correct but everything inside was not even close to what I ordered. They overbilled me, they won t answer the phone despite several calls, what a major disappointment. It s amazing that restaurants have been closing down and clamoring for more business, but when they have regular customers that patronize them week after week, this is how you get treated.

The food is so unbelievably oil soaked. Way too much . *The decent items were the green beans & The Yellowstone pork. Those are pretty safe. I would NOT order the beef-brocooli, (so much oil, no flavor) The red dumplings have no filling, all noodles and soaked in an obscene amount of pepper oil. The orange chicken is sickeningly sweet, the sauce really thick and gooey. Also, all veggies really overcooked. It is definitely an acquired taste to enjoy some of these dishes. Your lips will be numb and tongue feels weird for a day after consuming those peppers.

Dine in service pre pandemic was nice. Online order take out was a disaster. Dont order or pay online. You will get an email acknowledgment of the order, but no confirmation *when ready for pickup*. We gave 40 minutes from online order confirmation, a chicken entree and fried rice. Rice was ready, chicken entree they did not receive the order. Asked us to wait 10 minutes (50 minutes from order), after a further 40 minutes waiting outside restaurant, still not done (90 minutes from order). Several others waiting also had part orders not done. So online ordering platform is in disarray. Fine. Manager was understandeably much flustered ... lots of dismissive hand waving and glaring (the manager, not me). Had to cancel the payment and get a refund, which they promptly processed. I would wait if she was polite. Food is great and freshly cooked. Bare minimum contrition glaringly absent. Incidentally she was more rude to a waiting uber eats man, who was missing a part order. Claimed to have called the customer 3 or 4 times but nobody pickup... uber guy called his principal once, got a reply.

As has been mentioned in other reviews, the chef has a heavy hand with the oil as every dish looked greasy. We didnt have any issues with the person taking our order over the phone. There were five dishes. She said it would be ready in 15 minutes and it was. The boiled fish is one of my favorites because of the numbing Sichuan peppercorns! The shrimp was another of our familys favorites. It had an unexpected smokiness that added an extra element in flavor. We had two pork dishes - one with thin slices and vegetables and the other, ribs in a rich sauce. The bok toy was noticeably greasy. I guess they can get dishes out in 15 minutes if some foods are prepped ahead of time and they use a lot of oil to quickly cook it in a REALLY hot wok!

Amazing Sichuan food. The fried intestines and mapo tofu are both amazing. The spicy level of 1 pepper is just enough to not overpower the taste of the dish but still feel heat. The Salted Egg Yolk Eggplant (Golden Egg) was good, but I felt like it didnt have enough salted egg yolk flavor. The Silk On the Tree was underwhelming because it was just cabbage with Bean noodles, but it wasnt bad. It just couldnt be much better because it was made with cabbage. We paid about $45 for 4 dishes and the portion sizes were ok. Their dishes are smaller than most Chinese restaurants, but the taste is worth it.
