Superior service really stood out. It seems service is dead in 2024, but I was super impressed with the service tonight. The quality of the all you can eat sushi was far better than I expected too. I came in to eat on their hibachi side with my family for dinner on August 23, 2024. Another family joined. The chef gave a great show and the food was good. However in front of me, the edge of the hot surface was loose. I didn t think anything of it. I had food leftover so I packed it and brought it home for lunch the next day. The next day I went to work with my leftover. Took a few bites and then almost cracked my tooth on a freaking washer. Called the restaurant and they said to bring it in with my food and receipt. I m already eating my food so I couldn t bring that in. So the next day my husband brought the washer in for them, but because we didn t take the receipt with us that day we had no receipt to show them. The lady at the front was rude and refused to do anything about it. They are lucky that it was in my food and not my daughter or the 2 kids with the other family from that night! My family and I will not be coming back.

The food is good here, but I ate lunch here today with some co-workers. They got the All you can eat while I just got the hibachi chicken. Someone with our group ordered some spicy garlic edamames. I ate 2 of them. Apparently they were watching us and our waiter came over to me and told me I wasn t allowed to eat their edamames since I didn t order the All you can eat . I was like, Are you kidding me??? I am sorry. I ate 2 of them and believe me there were plenty in the bowl. We actually had 2 at our table order these. There were so many that not all of them were eaten. I could not believe they would come tell me I wasn t allowed to eat any. How ridiculous .

Stopped in for lunch today. The place felt dingy when we walked in, we were sat in a booth with the upholstery torn to shreds. Upon sitting my daughter noticed several dead roaches on the floor under our table... we brought this to the attention of the waiter and promptly left the restaurant.

Akaihi Sushi and Hibachi is really a shining star amongst sushi restaurants in Houston. They have a very impressive menu full of sushi rolls that are actually loaded with FISH and not cheap fillers (cucumber, shrimp tempura) that other Houston sushi joints will try and sell you. The rolls are reasonably priced for how big they are. They definitely don t skimp you on the fish portions in the rolls, either. LOVE this place!!!

Highly disappointed at how the new owner is going about this one awesome restaurant. Never have we ever had to pay 15 dollars for vegetable fried rice that was basically a side. Greased up crab cheese that I had to soak off with napkins before consuming and reminded that every sauce or any vegetable outside of carrots and onions would warrant a 3 dollar extra charge because it was expensive. The seats are busted up...bathroom hallway smells and really didnt appreciate a previous dish that cost 11 now cost close to 16 and its really all because of ONE mushroom split into 4 pieces. Will not be back...

Update: When you call to place an order for pickup they will tell you that you cannot order certain items over the phone ONLY inside of the restaurant. This is a lie but the female who took my order wasted 10 minutes of my time due to her lying, and not speaking proper English. Will not go back.

While I love the food here, they were deceptive today. It says on the menu major holidays are dinner price all day. We ordered from the lunch menu and clearly said lunch. Our waiter never said there was only dinner on mothers day. When we got our check it was at dinner prices and fried rice was $2 extra. This again was never communicated. Also Im not sure on this, but I thought dinner came with both soup and salad. We were told to pick between soup and salad. I am usually very happy at this restaurant but today I was not happy at all about the lack of communication.

Showed up at 6:00 and ordered hibachi dinners off the happy hour menu. Was notified by our waiter that there were NEW OWNERS and that soup and salad was no longer an option. We had to choose one or the other. As petty as it may seem, I thought this was pretty cheap for the new owners to do as I know the soup that they serve is basically hot water with a little flavoring (very little meat or potatoes) and can t cost much to make or serve. The food was still good, but it s the little things like this that will make me not return to this restaurant again. There are plenty of other options of Japanese style restaurants to eat that don t nickel and dime you. I will support those restaurants instead of Akahi. Good luck to the new owners, but I think you will eventually realize that it s the little things that matter to the customers who have supported this restaurant for so long!!

Been going here for over 10 years. It was like our 2nd kitchen. Last month new ownership! Terrible. It s quite sad. We have so many fond memories here. Some of the cooks that we love are still there. But you can just feel the new management. I ordered a side of fried rice for my son last night to go. He loves it. $30 dollars!!! I asked for just the small rice that comes on the side with the hibachi, she said ok, $22 dollars. I ve spent thousands at this restaurant and I m an avid 25+% tipper. But I m sorry .. this rice is going to need some gold plating because no side of fried rice in the world should cost so much unless it s got steak n shrimp or both. We miss the sweet old owner. And we are going to miss akhai. Guarantee, if they don t change their customer service and business style, they will continue to become more and more empty. It s already happening.

I usually do not like to leave negative reviews but I had the worst lunch experience here today. Started off with new management not honoring their menu items as they are listed & got worse when food arrived. After eating about 4 pieces of sushi, I noticed a bug (which I thought was dead) in the middle of my plate. After a few seconds, I realized it was still alive when it literally started to walk/crawl across my plate. I asked for server to come over to our table, showed him what I was looking at & asked for manager. Manager said she could not take the plate back as it already had soy sauce. I explained that I did not want that plate in front of me. I then refused her offer to make me a new plate. She proceeded to tell me that I needed to leave the restaurant, which I immediately did as I was so disgusted by all this. Will never have lunch here again & recommend you do the same.

New owners would not honor food choices on the menu they provided. Lunch specials clearly state they come with soup AND salad. The new owner agrued with me repeatedly that she would not honor her own menu!! She then let a dog run around the restaurant barking at guests. Then, after all this....there were bugs in our rice! The owner stated that she should not control bugs in the restaurant and that she couldnt do anything because the food had soy sauce on it. The most terrible eating out experience I have never had. We have gone to this restaurant many times without any issues until now. Im completely astonished.

I have been going to this restaurant for many years and have always had a fantastic experience, until today.... The menu states that their lunch combos come with both soup and salad. I have gotten this meal many times. I was told I had to choose one, and when I asked to speak to the manager, she refused to come address the issue. I left to eat elsewhere and left my five friends there, as some had already ordered. THEN, one of my friends found a bug in her food. When she told the server, again, the manager was resistant to come over to address the new issue. When she finally did, my friend was told that they could not take her meal back, because it had soy sauce on it. My guess was that they were going to try to serve the uneaten food to another customer. The manager tried to have my friend accept another plate, and pay for it. My friend refused and was escorted out. Another guest at the table refused to accept her plate due to what had occurred and was escorted out as well . There was also a dog, off-leash, roaming from the dining area to the kitchen, which violates all sanitary laws. I am sorry to lose this previous gem, but the new management forced me out.

I could tell immediately that cutting costs was the main goal: from wine, to the new soup OR salad, not mentioned in the menu, to veggies, to all new waitstaff. Its all excellent. I dont ever say that but this place was on point the sashimi (5 Kinds of Fish)was fresh and tender and delicious. The Samurai roll was explosive! The Peppercorn Tuna appetizer is a must. The gyoza is juicy as well as tasty with a crisp edge for crunch. hot & cold sake, Asahi beer complemented the meal to perfection. Did not try it yet was the Hibachi smelled oh so delicious. Ask for Jenny. She knows her stuff. Oh! And the spicy calamari is crispy tastiness and the sauce! Oh my my my my! Just do it. My wife and I frequently eat here on a monthly basis and have never had a problem before until this evening. I ordered the white dragon roll (which I get every time) and the order comes back completely wrong. It has tomato, red onion, asparagus, and jalapeños. I ask the waiter to get what I ordered and he says he will talk to the boss. He comes back and says they can do it. I wait 20 minutes before asking where my food is, and he acts surprised that I want my food. A minute later I see the manager annoyed with the waiter. Shortly after the manager brings my wrong order back to me yelling at me in the middle of the restaurant saying I got what I ordered. After going back and forth with him for several minutes he continues to yell and list the items in the roll that are similar. At that point I had enough and asked to leave with our food free and the manager starts yelling at the waiter in front of the entire restaurant saying it s all his fault. I have never felt so embarrassed and upset by a food service worker in my life. My wife still had to pay for her meal and the manager never apologized to me after the yelling fit he had. Safe to say I will never return and I suggest not going. Sad as this was one of my favorite restaurants and we were actually there to celebrate a milestone I had at work.

The cook was good, the service was good and the food was just ok. Not bad, but not great either for the price. The worst part was that they had air conditioning issues. It was uncomfortably hot in the restaurant. Add those flat tops burning so they can cook in front of us and it was just not comfortable. Our whole party was not really able to enjoy dinner because of how uncomfortably hot it was. They knew it was a problem because they already had fans running in that area. Unfortunately, moving hot air around doesnt fix the issue. Disappointed for sure.

Hubby and I wanted to try a new hibachi restaurant and saw this one on Google. As we walked to the hibachi side of the restaurant, the delicious aroma of grilled meats and veggies filled the air. I got the chicken and calamari while hubby got the filet mignon. The filet mignon was tender and cooked to the right temperature. I enjoyed my calamari which was also tender. We also got the roll combo from the lunch menu. You get 1 spicy salmon, 1 shrimp tempura hand roll and a spider roll for $13. The hand rolls and spider roll was packed with protein... well worth it. Our server was Mylene. She was attentive and very nice. Service was top notch. Definitely recommend hibachi and sushi at Akaihi.

I m currently writing this sitting at the table next to the window. I can say without a doubt after coming here with my family several times over. I can say this place deserves 5 stars. The food, staff, and atmosphere are a joy to experience. Shout out to Tammy, the best waitress there. We had a bad experience with this restaurant. I found an eyelash in my salad and the soup was terrible. The worst sushi EVER!!! We order 3 pieces of sashimi, they came with 6 pieces, we sent it back. They said that 3 pieces, thats the order. Then, they brought 2 nigiris to the table, which we didnt order, to replace the sashimi. Took it back. So, they brought it back the 6 pieces of sashimi saying that 3 pieces is 6. I even asked, are you sure that 3 pieces of sashimi is the 8dollars order? Yes, they said. OK. So, we took it. My husband ordered the ice cream for dessert. They havent brought it yet, this is 3 days ago. When they brought the bill, they charged 24.00 for the sashimi, the one I ordered 3 pieces. We told the manager to fix. He was mad, disrespected us. Its not our fault that he cant even speak English and is not capable of training his own staff. The waiter came back to our table 5 times because of a sashimi order of 3 pieces!!!! He was lost. Waitress was mad because I didn t give a tip then proceeded to stare at me I said I had no change on me and I said is it a problem and she said what can I say I usually always give her a tip but this time I didn t have a few extra bills on me I will not be coming here again I will be getting takeout every time no she did not make the food the chef did if anyone deserves a tip is the chef and I walked there I don t have a car so she made me feel really bad about not giving her tip like she looked mad because I didn t give her a tip crazy how we all have different lives and have personal problems I was lucky enough to even eat there this month and ruined it with her snarky attitude about not giving her a tip The food was amazing though I ordered the white dragon and snow crabs every time

I was really excited to try Akaihi but left disappointed. The facility is very dirty, the ladies room equally as dirty. Ordered my filet mignon medium rare and received my steak well done. Was suppose to be happy hour but our drinks were full price. Would not return.

Were local and first time tried this restaurant and have already fallen in love with the delicious dishes, desserts, and cocktails. Staffs are so friendly. The server made a training chopsticks for my son; how thoughtful she was! A cozy atmosphere! Bravo for everything here. A great local find! Highly recommended!

This place is ok. There s nothing fancy about it. I don t think the fish is super fresh but if you re looking for average sushi or hibachi, come here. I ve never gotten sick from here so that s good, right? I definitely have had fresher sushi and I don t recommend coming here for that. Hibachi is fun and good every now and then. You can also order hibachi at the table which is an added plus.

PSA - The owner is an angry, rude, condescending and disrespectful man!! WE WILL NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN even though we ve frequented this place many times over the years. We were seated at a hibachi table with a sweet family celebrating an 8th bday. The waitress took the order for the table and I kept a menu to look at the wines. The chef came out about 15-minutes later and abruptly and loudly told me and my daughter to move to the other table where no one was seated. We looked at him quizzically then asked why and he raised his voice and again told us to move. Of course we moved. We and the other party at the table were so confused. The waitress asked why we moved and told us to move back. I told her a man came and forcefully told us to move. Since we already ordered, I tried to ask when the man came back if we would still get the meal my daughter ordered and he rudely cut me off, wouldn t let me finish my question and yelled at me while shewing us away with his hand. I tried twice to ask my question with the same results. Even the waitress asked and was shewed away. Two waitresses came to apologize and I told them I just wanted to know if my daughter would get her meal or have to wait until the entire new table was full even though we already ordered. Turns out that man was the owner! Then, he tried to explain the situation to the other party but not us. The father in the other party looked at him quizzically and told him there was no need to move us after we already ordered. I have never been yelled at in a restaurant by one of the staff, much less the owner, especially while I was a customer! I will say that the waitstaff was nice. They even said he yells at them on the daily! Perhaps he needs to be told he s not Gordon Ramsey? We will NEVER go back!!

Stopped in for a date night with my wife and enjoyed a nice dinner. We chose to sit in the regular dining area and not have the hibachi show. We ordered the crab puff - absolutely delicious! Definitely will get that again. It was crunchy with a great crab cream cheese center. My wife had the hibachi chicken with friend rice and I had the hibachi shrimp with fried rice. All of it was great and the portions were generous! Prices were fair, and we even stopped during happy hour 3-7, some prices were discounted a little bit. Service was prompt and friendly

Been going here for over 5 years. My order never changed. I use to know the sushi chefs and they knew me. I use to tip them well cause they knew my order without me telling them. Today i tried to place an order and the owner at the register never really understands your order and always over charges. BUT today he tried to charge me 27.00 for 3 salmon avocado rolls. I usually get spicy mayo on top and on the side with eel sauce on the side. Each roll is 4.00(12.00). He said he was charging me 1.00 for the spicy mayo on each roll and .35 for avocado. Either my Masters Degree was given too me or he lost his mind. Sounds like he was trying to charge me 1.00 for each piece and 35 cents for each piece. Now this is un heard of. Well i guess i have to find somewhere else to get sushi. I drove all the way from downtown Houston.

Just left Akaihi after celebrating a granddaughters birthday dinner there. All the family loves the food! We end up going there for most birthdays! I have yet to try their table service since the kids choosr the hibachi but will do so soon since their hibachi meals are all good.

We ve coming here for 3 years. Food is delicious and service too, never had a complaint before. Till today I called 5 times at least since 8:00pm trying to place a pick up order and every time they picked up the phone they hanged up. I understand is close to closing time since they close at 9:00pm but still is part of customer service. Today is a disappointed my family really likes this Japoneses Restaurant.

I must share that we have been going to this restaurant for the past 2-3 years with no problems, even with groups for birthdays etc. Yesterday we arrived at the restaurant for a 5pm Happy hour with girlfriends there are 14 of us, I made a reservation the day before, I thought were all good we go there all the time, I have a reservation etc (restaurant was empty). They refused us service because we would be on separate checks! some of would be paying cash, some cards. I had to scramble outside the restaurant which I had got to thankful 30 mins early to tell the ladies of our change of plans. So glad this business is doing so well that they can turn away 14 covers spending up to and beyond $30 each....... We went to Gringos and they had no problem taking us at all. We even brought a group of Police officers there dinner as well.
