Well this little gem just made it onto my top 5 Texas BBQ joints. On the staff, super friendly to where the order taker knew the names of about half the customers by heart because they were regulars. I got the brisket, sausage, BBQ beans, and Mac n cheese. The brisket was a solid 9.5/10. The crust had a good layer of seasoning on it, coarse salt and pepper. The smoke flavor was rich and deep in the fat vein. It was very moist with a good texture. The sausage was an 8/10. Great flavor, a light spiciness that was not overpowering, not overly greasy. And the grind on the sausage was just right, not too fine and not too coarse. The mac and cheese was good, I would add a tad more salt, but it was very creamy, 7/10. The beans had the BBQ meat in them, which gave a good saltiness to compliment the sweetness of the beans, 8/10. Overall very impressed. I will have to return and try some of the other meats.

I found only one problem with Kats BBQ. The problem is that I will now and forever more compare everyone elses brisket to theirs. I kept hearing about this place on the radio. Decided to drive to Santee Fe on Saturday to try the brisket. Got the 2 meat plate so I could also try the ribs. Best damn ribs I have had outside of my own pit. I drove from Beaumont to try this place. So worth the drive. I will be back. If I could give you 100 stars I would. I ended up taking a pound of brisket home with me. Next time I think I need 2 or 3 because I had to share with my husband and dad.

Kats is Texas at her very finest! This is what others strive/hope/pray to achieve in the brisket smoking business - same for ribs (absolutely the best pork ribs in Texas or anywhere)! This review is for the drivers delivering to this place. Be aware of the old man the owners dad. If you get there with a delivery during lunch time. This old man will be upset and will be a a$$. To the old man, it is not the driver fault that your idiotic jacka$s has the meat freezers in the dinning room area.if you do not want drivers around your customers THEN DO NOT HAVE THE FREEZERS IN THE DINNING AREA!! Then they expect the driver to do their job for them like putting their orders in their freezers. They are nothing but lazy a$s hats working there. I honestly do not even know when why my employer Premium Food even takes this guys order if it is only 5 boxes. Waste of time and money.

Visited while on Vacation from Michigan, this place is top notch. You can tell Ernie really puts his all into this place, and is very enthusiastic about BBQ! The food was awesome, the ribs had a perfect cook to them, just a little too much peppercorn on the ribs for my liking. But overall a phenomenal experience and would highly recommend.

I got the Kats plate, I asked twice for fatty and lean brisket and got nothing but fatty brisket with a half to three quarters of an inch of fat on each slice. Ribs were small and not very smokey, sausage was so so. I upgraded the pulled pork for more brisket for an eight dollar upcharge, so this plate ended up costing me sixty eight dollars. That s with a three dollar tip, I wished I hadn t given.

I hate making post like this, but I think this needs to be said. I ventured out to try this barbecue today and had a very disrespectful and disheartening experience. Upon getting my food, the cashier/server, and the cooks were joking around when the phrase White Power was said throughout the building. The cashier, then proceeded back into the kitchen to converse with the cooks before coming back out to explain what had just happened. We were the only two African-American people in the building and he decided to come over us and explain how that phrase was just a joke. After hearing that phrase being said, I wasn t trying to understand the nature of the joke. This is a restaurant that should cater to all. Regret spending my money here, this was my experience. Dine at your own discretion.

Ernie is awesome! Food is good but not great. Sausage is just meh. Brisket and beans were our favorite from our 2 meat plate. I d eat the beans with cut up brisket everyday. Service is good. Plenty of seating including outside. Parking is kind of small. Overall it s worth stopping in for lunch. They do add 3% for CC charges. Best to use cash if that s a big deal.

Worst I have ever had. Got the 2 meat plate with sliced beef (lean) and sausage. There wa so much fat and it tasted more like roast than bbq, I couldnt even eat it and the sausage was over cooked and hard. Drove from the bacliff/san leon area . Definitely not worth it. The portions were small. Not like the ones people show in their pictures. Someone said they had chicken and they didnt even have it on the menu. Way over priced for the quantity and quality. Sooo delicious. I usually only want chicken at BBQ places, but they only serve that here if it s a daily special. I ve had the chicken and sausage before, and it was amazing. Today, there was no chicken special so I had ribs. Also amazing! The potato salad is the best I ve ever had. The beans and fun pasta salads they do are also delicious. My husband has gotten the brisket sandwich, and the meat + bun are both incredible. Very generous portions, the meat is never fatty. Sooo so tender. We went to see what the hype was about. We both got bbq baked potatoes and got the kids grilled cheese sandwiches. The baked potato was small for what we paid for but the barbecue had okay taste. Very good BBQ and desserts, fast, friendly service. The beef brisket, pulled pork, pork ribs, sausage, and baked potatoes are cooked to perfection. The sides, beans, coleslaw & potato salad are always consistently fresh and delicious. I did finally try the half chicken served on Fridays only, but I was disappointed in my meal when I cut into it. Basically, I didnt feel like driving back to Kats BBQ, so I proceeded to heat my BBQ chicken in the oven about 10 to 15 minutes longer. I have not tried the half chicken again since, but I will try it again someday and update my post accordingly. The only issue I have now is that on several occasions, I came by. They sold out of everything by 1 to 2 p.m. My advice, like most great BBQ places in Texas, is to get here as soon as they open or call ahead because they run out of all the good stuff early and parking is very limited. Ive traveled and eaten BBQ in some of the best places in Texas and this place, in my opinion, is one of the top four best places closer to home for sure, I just wish they made a little more food and stayed open longer like all the other best BBQ restaurants in Texas that dont ever run out of BBQ. Parking: Very small parking area in front of business that is located next to heavily traffic road.

Ive eaten at many BBQ spots, smoked, cooked meat for 40 years. Not a big fan of BBQ restaurants.That said, this is home cooking on steroids. Im kinda jealous, it was better than mine. Id drive an hour for Kats. You wont find better, anywhere.

Dont let the small appearance fool you. The food is very good and the staff is very friendly and helpful. We have BBQ Brisket, potato salad and baked beans. Even our most outspoken critics, 5 and 3 years old, loved, empty their plates and asked for more. So you figured it out! Will definitely come back. BTW prices are very reasonable too.

You may think youve had good Texas BBQ, but just wait until you try Kats. Ive never been so impressed with a BBQ place. The flat brisket fell apart as I picked it up and it just melts in your mouth. I have tried every reputable BBQ joint between Harris County and Galveston and this is by far the best Ive ever had. Its been about a month since my visit and Im still thinking about it. This is the real deal, guys. You MUST try it out, itll change your BBQ standards!

Dont let the higher prices scare you. This BBQ is rated this high for a reason. Employees are very friendly, despite the restaurant being packed from open to close. Very pleased with the food and desserts. Parking: Parking is very limited, but you can normally find something if you can walk a little.

This is a wonderful, small business that puts out really good food. The hours posted on the door say open at 11:00 until sold out...I got there at 1:15 and some of the most popular items were already sold out. I am not really a brisket fan but Kats BBQ made me a believer....Definitely show up early if you want to try their full menu...I am going to have to follow my own advise and try some of the other menu items.

Dry brisket and they charge for to go? This was a second attempt based on reviews. Both times even the moist brisket was somehow dry and crumbly. I think they keep it too hot once done. Fat trim was nonexistent, just buy and cook it seems. You expect fat but not a half inch layered through entire order. Ordered a pound to go and was charged a Togo charge. No bag or help getting it together. Pickles, onions and peppers for one thrown in flip top styrofoam with 25$ pound of brisket. 4.8 must be family reviews. Sante Fe can do better. This is Texas.

Just had lunch there and all these good reviews are spot on. Huge portions, I will finish my chop beef sandwich for dinner. It is wheelchair friendly, a ramp at the entrance and room to move around inside. Appears to be extra parking in back by the firewood, it does get busy at lunch but line moves pretty fast. Great place.
