Elis is one of the best bartenders I have ever met! Even while injured he was very nice and made great drinks. Others that work there like Ben and Johnny, were also great. Excellent service and very fast. Top tier pizza is also a plus- definitely recommend here to my friends!

Harpers is a staple bar on the Square. It s located inside a really cool historic building. I love this place because they have such a cool laid-back staff and in their three floors of bars, you can literally find anything you are wanting to drink! Harper s (on the first floor) is a great place to go to watch the games and hangout with the bartenders. They re strict on IDs but that would be weird if they weren t. I haven t been able to try the pizza place, but I have heard really good things. Definitely come check this place out if you haven t! There s parking out front on the street.

The bartender with all the facial hair needs to re learn how to do ID s. Came in with my girlfriend and another friend and he had no problem with my ID but for some reason needed to see a credit card or something with a name on it to accept their ID s. My girlfriend gave her his debit card and we were paying for my friend so all he had was his ID and apparently that wasn t good enough for him. He then accused us all of having fake ID s even though we re all over 25. I ve literally never had another bar so this or act this way. Will never come back.

If I could leave zero stars I would. My boyfriend, bestfriend and I tried to stop for a beer, bartender came up to us asking for ID s (mind you we are all over 25) he takes my boyfriends id and gave it back with no issue. But inspected mine and my bestfriends ID for minutes flipping back and forth as if it was fake. He said we did not look like our pictures so we had to present something else with our name? Apparently I don t look like my height and we all had fake IDs. He wouldn t let us stay. I will never be back.

I am from KC and traveling for work just trying to get a drink and the bouncer asked for proof I am from Kansas and literally have a KC royals shirt on and don t know what else to prove I am from there and didn t let me in. Joe is always very friendly when we go into Harpers. As a Veterans wife, I love supporting other Vets small businesses, however!! Joe is exceptional at what he does. His sauce is amazing!! And after one bite, you know youll be back everytime you are out on the square!! Love this brick-oven pizza!!

Fantastic student bar for San Marcos. There are multiple levels each with a different theme. If you want frozen drinks, head upstairs to Daiquiris. If youre into a sports bar Harpers is the place. The owner Alan and his wife hire great staff. The food is bar food, but its good.

This place is horrible and I will tell you why... PLEASE READ First of all I am a turist from Europe and I went to this place last night with a frind around midnight. We seat next to the bar as I like and we orderd two Hainikens wich they didnt have so we orderd Dos Equis. The bartender looked at as like we did somthing wrong and he went to the menager. They talked to each other for a minute or two. After that they came out of the bar and the came and told us we must leave. They didnt tell us why at all. It was the first time in my life something like that happened to me. I must say that I am a Lawyer and I work for Customs and border protection and I will take action regarding this because we didnt do anything to anybody and they kick us out (this can be checked in the surveillance video). This can be a subject for several charges thats for shore. So if the owner dont contact me to explain the reasons why it happened I will take action infront of the competent authorities (Country and State). Sincerely, A.S.

Reaaally poor service consistently; I dont know how, this place is never crowded. On top of that theres just older fat nerds working there, and youd have to be one to actually go to this place regularly. Crowd is mostly older people waiting for college kids to come in so they can annoy them. So, just all around a 1 star bar with 1 star staff to top it off. No wonder its the worse bar on the square.

Worst service I ve had in quite some time. Stood at the bar for 10 minutes with servers walking around me. Finally I was talking to a server and she STOPPED talking to me mid-sentence so she could take the order of the person next to me. I left right after. I can t believe people spend their money here. There are many better places. If I could leave 0 stars I would. Your training needs to be improved. Period.

Kind of a hole-in-the-wall bar they played some really fun Spanish music which I thought was strange for the venue. The bathrooms really need to have a little more care reminds me of a couple of bars on 6th Street where your feet are sticking to the floor. Definitely a college bar but not quite my cup of tea. The girl behind the bar was so sweet and helpful and asking where a close place go country dancing.

Went to this place last night not mention it was my first time going to the square in San Marcos but the bartenders were so rude and had no type of customer service my boyfriend and I order a long island ice tea from the girl at the bar but it didnt taste at all like a long island more like a sour drink we try to explain to the guy bartender that we didnt like it and wanted to see if we could get something different he told us we had to take it up with the girl who made the drink because he didnt make it so he then let her know that we didnt like the drink so instead of her coming over to us and seeing if maybe she could make something else to our liking she started the conversation by explaining what was all in the drink and that she had been a bartender for five years and then she rudely walked off so I then asked the guy bartender if there was anything he could do (hell all I wanted was a different drink which I didnt think I was asking for too much but obviously it was a problem) he said no so I asked if there was a manager I could talk to I also asked him for the girl bartenders name he wouldnt give me none of the above told me that they didnt have a manager on duty and that we could gladly go somewhere else if we wanted too.......come to find out the bartenders were a couple now I dont know if we were treated so poorly because we were the only minorities in there at the time or if these people just have no southern hospitality or good customer service skills but I wouldnt recommend anyone to go have a drink there after 10pm and I know I for sure will not be going back ever

Met our college-aged daughter here for late lunch on a Texas State home football afternoon. Ambiance is casual sports bar, semi-divey, especially toward the back (kind of nasty back there, actually). We sat at the bar and chewed the fat with the bartender, who kindly explained each of his brews in detail along with highlighting the menu offerings. We ordered one meat-lovers pizza (Caveman) and a full-on veggie delight. I had a locally brewed beer. More clients crawled in as we stayed, and the place became livelier. Muchos TVs everywhere, offering nearly every college football game imaginable. Food arrived in a timely manner. Brick oven pizza was very good: thin crust, slightly charred, crispy and minimally droopy, allowing for the correct manner of eating it by folding in half lengthwise and munching w/o a damned fork. This is a fun spot in a cool college town. Looking for good service and food? Look no further!

Bouncer pocketed my REAL ID because he didnt know what my states ID was supposed to look like and REFUSED to give it back. Im 60, 24 years old, and routinely get mistaken for being older than my age. Ive never been treated this way. Had to waste 30 minutes flagging a cop to tell the guy to give it back.

Some of the best pizza in town, they have a wide variety of toppings and everything is made to order. I personally like the wings with the option for wet and dry rubs and they are way bigger than most other restaurants. This is the perfect place to start your night with $4 Miller Lite pitchers it has to be one of the better deals on the San Marcos square. What better way to start a night of drinking then with a brick oven pizza and some good brews, I recommend this place to anybody.
