It was a very nice experience and all the staff were super nice and attentive, they explained to us about the plants and insects that live there and about the spiders that we saw and how they were protecting their eggs, and which plant was dangerous (poisonous) so we just observed and didnt. We play to avoid any danger, following the rules. Maybe we will go again with the whole family in a time when the weather is not so hot because the walking has been difficult since it is very hot. But I appreciate all the staff for teaching the children and motivating them the way they did. Just a small observation, it would be nice if there were also more staff who speak Spanish and they would explain in the language to those who do not understand English, but even so we loved being here and we recommend it, it is a different and very nice experience to learn more about nature Have a wonderful day

Absolutely loved the hiking. Moderate to hard difficulty with how quickly I was pacing myself and thoroughly enjoyed the Joe Johnson trail that led into the Overlook trail. Beautiful views with great scenery. I loved every moment of it and could not be more thrilled with the 2 hour drive to get there. Will be going back to visit other parts for sure. 10/10 recommend!

We are in town from Houston, Texas to visit family and went here to see the dinosaur tracks in July. The path was very wide and clear and had variable places of shade and places to sit. We got there early on a Saturday (7/6/24), between 7 and 8 am, no wait. Ranger suggested the Discovery Trail for a first short hike. Its only a little over a mile, and it only took us about 30 minutes. It is a lovely dirt/rock trail, smooth and even. At least one couple was pushing a stroller. We did see 2 javelina cross the trail within about 20 yards of us. Get there early before the heat, and get a Texas State Parks pass so you dont have to worry about how long or short you stay (...and then you have a good excuse to come back!)

Its easy to get here, there is plenty of parking, typically there is plenty of capacity but its a good idea to book a reservation before you go. This place is great for everyone, especially families. They have several different trail options that are well maintained, a fun little playground area, and yes, there are bathrooms!

Not a bad place to go for a hike on a day when it s not too hot outside. If you plan to bike the trails just know that e-bikes are not allowed. If you plan to use an ordinary bike I would advise against it if you don t have a dual suspension bike because the trails are pretty rocky

We spent a full day hiking the Joe Johnson and Carolines Loop trail. This park is a hidden gem. There was a short line of vehicles to get in but it wasnt a long wait. It seemed like most of the hike was uphill but it was definitely worth it. Saw the dinosaur tracks and the Zizelmann house along the way. This was a great place to spend a day, especially during February.

The park is a decent size with trails that are doable as long as you bring enough water. Some trails have dirt paths but many have loose pebbles/rocks which can be dangerous for rolling ankles. Walking stick is recommended for those who are not stable footed/ easily trip. The wildlife here is very diverse and I love the bird community here as well. The park is very well managed and the bio life is healthy.

Lots of great hiking plus dinosaur tracks! We visited this park twice (note: Texas State Parks seem to charge by the person, not the vehicle, so a park pass might be a better option) and had some wonderful hikes. We couldn t take our dog on the dinosaur track trail, but they had a very nice series of pet-friendly trails a bit down the road. Water, trees and elevation changes made the hikes enjoyable. Park office was nice and the park rangers were helpful and friendly.

My wife and and our daughter did a day hike at Government Canyon. It was another beautiful Saturday for hiking. This is 2 weekends in a row. This just might become a habit. That is until it gets too hot to enjoy these hikes. Cost is $6 per person. No dogs are allowed on the trails except for the lower trail that is just a loop. Of course you still always have those people who believe that rules apply to everyone else except them. Get out and enjoy God s creation.

Maps are handed out at the booth when you pay. Kids 12 and under are free. Adults are $6. If you re active duty military you can get a military card. I take my kids often. Many easy hikes to do. Great playground too. Restrooms are clean. Checkin at the booth can take some time, and the signs are fairly accurate for wait time (15 min, 30min, etc). Pack in and pack out. Nice place with a lot of options for hiking. We went to see dinosaur tracks. The hike is about 2.5 miles one way, 5 miles all together, its not difficult at all the only thing is that there are a lot of rocks on the trail, u need to pay attention to your steps and sturdy shoes are a must. There are benches along the way, and once you arrive at the destination. We spent a good amount of time looking at the dinosaur tracks... It is so cool to see it, and the more you look at it the more details you see .

Be aware, this hike can be closed following rainy days. Found out the hard way! Nice hike, paths are clear and clean. The dinosaur tracks are an added bonus. The signs are overly conservative. It doesnt take 3 to 5 hours to get to the dino tracks and back, per the map/signs. That made my wife question the hike over my opinion. We did it in two hours. Also, they suggest way too much water, 16 ounces an hour I think it was. We shared 10 ounces between us for the hike. I am 58. Temp was around 80 with low humidity. Maybe more water for hotter days!

The hiking trails were not only beautiful but also quite manageable, making it a perfect outing for a Saturday. What truly impressed me was the low crowd level, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the natural beauty and history of this place. I liked that it has a very good area to walk. Clean bathrooms. And they have a large number of activities for this month. We went to learn about Geocachig; which is an activity of locations through GPS coordinates. Objects are hidden inside boxes or things that seem natural but are not. You can download the application to record everything you have found or if you have hidden something as well. I dont know how much they charge because I went with a Homeschool group and admission was free and the park was just for us. Something I didnt like was that the person in charge took a long time explaining this activity, it was interesting but I think more time should have been given to carry out the activity, since the children were excited to do it.

I love going here, the park is so beautiful and relaxing in the morning. I try to make it once a week to take a walk. Be sure to bring water, but definitely enjoy the walk and the sights. Its certainly a beautiful location.

Very friendly and knowledgeable lady at the entrance. The trails are very well kept. There is a small gift shop with also some bare necessities. Highly recommended for long easy hikes.

Really pretty and very well kept. Only some areas allow dogs. Will definitely be back without mine, although the trails that allow dogs were beautiful.

Awesome park with great hiking trails. Trails are mostly covered with some open areas. Not fully covered but covered enough so the sun doesnt beat you down. Rocky to dirt to solid rock along the trails. Several trails available making it possible to take different routes depending on how long a hike you want to do.
