What a solid spot. If you love the prime distilled liquors they honestly do them all great. A couple prize winners, a couple avg ones, but good enough to just try them all and relax with friends.

Probably my favorite stop during my weekend in San Antonio. The flights are reasonable at $15. You get to taste the ones of your choosing. Find one you really like, take home a bottle. I did. The service was great, and servers were very knowledgeable. A nice bonus was the mixed nuts which helped to cleanse the palette between whiskeys. I ll definitely return.

I came in interested in the process and history. Walking around the lady at the cash register simply said there s a second floor. I ordered a drink to sample the whiskey. As I m sitting and admiring the part of the process you can visually see, I overhear the cashier telling the history of Sam Maverick. Being a history nut I walk up to learn. She pauses mid sentence, and in a group of 6 other people asks me if I d like to pay to hear the tour. Calling me out in front of everyone, when I had no idea yours were available was the rudest thing I ve experienced in San Antonio. And I ve driven I-35 in rush hour. Let someone know yours are available. Post a sign. If you haven t been here, don t come for their hospitality. There isn t any to be had.

Definitely a worthwhile stop for whiskey enthusiasts going on the Riverwalk! My girlfriend and I had the flights of whiskey and their beer, both of which had some stellar options. We were given a free sample of their dry and aged gin as well. When you order a flight you can a glass of nuts to snack on and water to stay hydrated. There are bathrooms in close proximity for convenience. We ended up buying the Rodeo edition bourbon because it was so smooth!

The best of the downtown distilleries. They also do beer on site. We did a basic taster flight and the beer flight. I suggest you do them one at a time as we ordered both at the same time and the beer ended up getting warm. Beer was ok, nothing amazing but flaw-free which most SA downtown breweries cant claim. The bourbon was the winner with the private and barrel being our favs. The rye was a little on the soapy side vs being spicy which surprised us since we enjoy rye most of the time. Overall I recommend this as a good place to enjoy some house made spirits.

This is a pretty cool place. They supposedly open at 12:00 PM on Thursday and Friday, but they cant quite make that happen. Plan on arriving about 1:00 PM. Weekends might be better. Their whiskeys are good... about 17 variations were available. They also brew their own beer with only four on tap. The Irish Red was authentic and very good. They are a little short staffed. Some had to wait a bit, but I received prompt and friendly service.

Loved this place. Awesome and affordable experience. High quality and good vibes. Will go again. The taster flights of 4 whiskey, bourbon, gin, or tequila were all delicious. My favorites were the dry gin, straight, and rye. 15$ a flight. 6$ pints. The blonde was quite tasty. Enjoyed sitting downstairs watching a man working in the distillery area. Very good air conditioning and clean bathroom.

The Maverick is located in a beautiful building and the interior is very nice. The staff was friendly and let us sample a new drink they were creating. The beer flight was well priced and they had a good range of choices. The food was a bit disappointing. Our first pretzel was burnt to a crisp, but they did bring us a new one. Food wise, I recommend the wild boar gnocchi and anything on the app menu.

Stumbled upon this little gem on a trip to the riverwalk. What an awesome place. Nicole greeted us with a huge smile and gave us the history of the place. Tasting room doesnt open till 2 pm so came back for a beer before a meeting we had. Loved it so much we went back the next day and Nicole escorted us to the 2nd floor tasting room. The dark haired bartender with the mustache was there again, super friendly guy who knows how to pour a drink. All the spirits are distilled right there as well as the beers. Had an old fashioned with their house bourbon, omg one of the best Ive had. Decided to try their signature in a house mule and it was just as good. Our friends bought a bottle of their bourbon to take home. The food menu looked amazing as well as the dishes we saw but we were meeting friends so didnt get a chance to try the food. The guy next to us at the bar top raved about the shrimp and grits. Met two of the managers walking around making sure guests were happy. This is a must go to if you are in the area. Im not sure if they had desserts because they were not on the main menu, and our waitress never offered a dessert menu. We ended up asking for our bill because she never came back to check on us. I visited Maverick this week on the first day and the first hour of their new cocktail menu. Thanks to Timothys extensive cocktail knowledge, I was able to describe what I like and he was able to provide a recommendation for the perfect drink. I enjoyed a Special Accommodation and a Paint Me Like One of Your French Girls. Both were lovely, gin-forward cocktails. The new menu features cocktails which present the spirit as the star of the show. My husband had a version of Manhattan made with a blend of their straight and rye whiskeys which used very little sweet vermouth so you could enjoy the whiskeys. I very much enjoyed myself and my cocktails. I will definitely be back next time I am in San Antonio.

In terms of drinks, every cocktail we had was different and exactly what we expected. I had 2 gin drinks and while I m not a regular gin drinker, I was impressed. This was a fun, last minute idea. We did the tour and it was great. The tour has a huge focus on the history part, which is great because I am a history buff and was actually able to learn quite a few things that I didn t know. It only has a very small focus on the actual process to make the whiskey/beer so take that into consideration if that is what you are looking for. It was fine for us because we have been to other distillery tours so we already understood the process. There is a nice, little bar/restaurant area upstairs. We tried several drinks, including a flight of beer. My boyfriend s drink of choice ended up being the bloody mary and I enjoyed the mojito. The prickly pear was a bit to tart for our liking

I visited Maverick Whiskey with a few friends last night for a Thursday evening tour, and I have to say it was honestly EXCEPTIONAL! Dan and Alyssa both went above and beyond to make sure our experience was one-of-a-kind. From the second we walked in the door, we felt extremely welcome. They were terrific hosts... fun, exceptionally knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the company, its history and the craft as a whole. Dan, in particular, was a terrific guide. He created an experience that engaging, conversational, and interesting. Uniquely...the tour covered quite a bit of history, which I think made for a more interesting experience just learning about the process itself. Afterward, he even stuck around much longer than he had to to answer questions, share stories and even share a flight with us in the tasting room upstairs. That really meant a lot. Like I said...the entire Maverick team went above and beyond...and it meant so much to us! Happy to say I just stopped by Specs on the way out of town...I look forward to enjoying a piece of San Antonio back home in North Carolina. Thank you Maverick Whiskey!

My wife and I spent our anniversary last night with the great people at Maverick Whiskey. The food was great (Devilish Eggs, Texas Pretzel, and Salmon Nachos) and the Bourbon Old Fashion was the best I have ever had and the beer was delicious. My wife really liked the Porter. After food and drinks Dan took us on the VIP tour of the facility. Dan was fantastic, his knowledge of their whiskey was great and only surpassed by his knowledge and history of Sam Maverick. We loved getting the back story and history behind Maverick Whiskey and it gave us a better appreciation to the whole experience. The Whiskey is great, but they also make Gin, Vodka, Rum, etc. They all tasted fantastic and we purchased some for home and to share with our friends and family. We will be going back for sure! Of course none of this could have been possible without the assistance of Nicole, who help me arrange the tour and make reservations. She also was there when we arrived and was great conversation during parts of the tour. If you havent been here, go, if you have, go back!

What a fun experience! Do not come here for the whisky. Lol. They are new. Still working that craft and honing that flavor. But the experience is great. They obviously have a passion. My husband and 4 friends did the VIP tour and had a blast. The rest of our party hung out in the dining area having a blast waiting for them. They have some amazing cocktails. Especially the gin one! I love gin, so this made me happy. Dinner was great too. They cook a mean ribeye and the apps were great. It s been awhile so the details are escaping, but I remember liking everything. The fried cheese bites and pretzel sticking out along the apps. We just really had a blast here. The server was great and put up with our antics.

Alamo whiskey was incredible, straight bourbon whisky had hints of the Alamo, but sweeter. Extremely professional staff, kind, attentive, caring and helpful. Expected prices to be through the roof but a lunch and a few drinks was not terrible! Really great place.

Took a quick trip to San Antonio 2 weeks ago and found this hidden treasure. We like to find places that represent the local area and not the hyped up tourist places. Mavericks was amazing - Arch was an amazing bartender/server. He took the time to answer all our questions and even told us the history of the building, including the tunnels and spirits in the building. Unfortunately we only brought carry on luggage so were sad we couldnt take any of their products back to Milwaukee. My husband swears Arch made the best Old Fashion he has ever had and my margaritas were fabulous. We plan on coming back to San Antonio in summer and Mavericks will be on a list to visit again for amazing cocktails and food.

Went here for a stop on a bachelorette weekend. Best tour! Our tour guide was great at telling us the history, showing us around and playing a taste test game at the end. All the ladies loved it and by the end we were buzzed and ready to buy shirts and stuff from the gift area. The drinks were amazing. Dont forget to buy a bottle guys and gals. They just opened back up and need the love plus its all made, bottled and everything there! See I listened on the tour definitely recommend the whiskey. Though their agave and gin is good too!!! Thanks yall!

This place is great, and weve been to a whole lot of distilleries. We tried several spirits in a tasting flight and liked them all, and then got cocktails. Everything was VERY well done. Its rare that youll find a distillery that makes all their own products from scratch, especially this well. We will definitely be back.

Had the catered Valentine s Day experience at Maverick Whiskey. The drink cocktails were perfectly balanced with the courses. Cocktails pictured are the Downtown Sour, Dripping In Red and Happy Ending. The service and hospitality were great and we enjoyed our experience. Only downside was the main dish was served cold, however, it was still delicious. We will be returning to try the charcuterie boards, beer and other cocktails.

They had guys outside with rifles so it wasnt the most welcoming Edit: They were absolutely not asked to leave, a gentleman with a Maverick whiskey work shirt was standing by their side stating he was part of the business coalition that asked the guys with heavy weaponry to come out and defend their businesses. Perhaps this wasnt the actual owner, but maybe the on site staff can further detail why they thought it appropriate to ask a militia to stand outside the establishment.

Had been there during the Christmas holiday and had a fantastic experience. Brought a group of 8 for a return visit for a birthday and the experience was very different. While the service is great and they all work very hard to please, the kitchen was a great disappointment on this visit. Because the kitchen is on a different floor the food came lukewarm and got cold fast. My pork chop was soft, but extremely dry (Ive never before had to ask for A1 steak sauce - that was a first!). The food was only okay this time. Tasteless brocollini and hard as can be roasted potatoes. One friend mentioned that her veggies were poorly done - we were later told that the chef agreed and her dish was taken off the tab - why couldnt the chef had made sure the batch of potatoes was good from the start? The difference in the 2 experiences was palatable and Im not so sure well be back - my friends are foodies and we eat out as a group fairly often; some were super excited to be coming here. Weve had much more consistency at other local dining spots. The 2 stars were for the service and atmosphere, although rowdy groups in the rear private dining room make the front room tough to hear conversation.

This was probably our worse dining experience, ever. We had never been here before but saw their Valentines day menu and decided to make a reservation for Valentines day. Its a rather new restaurant so dont know if they have never had a day like V-Day but the whole staff looked overwhelmed. We noticed the hostess being dressed in regular jeans/shoes/ sweater. That definitely caught my attention (seeing as this is suppose to be a high end restaurant-- $65 per person) Our waitress seemed like she was ready to call it quits...my wife tried to make her cheer up a bit but her mood didnt change. We received our 1st and 2nd course which were alright. Then I received my Caesar salad which was not fresh at all...was probably at room temperature. We received our entrees (both fillets) and they were cold. I had never returned a steak before but I had to do it this time. Then, they had the audacity to put BOTH of our steaks, that had already been cut by us, back on the grill and heat it up and bring it back out to us.... REALLY? (Note it was $65 a person for the set V-Day Menu) Then when they brought it back...my wifes purple potatoes were cold! I had enough at that point and decided to talk to manager (who also seemed overwhelmed) and told him what we had experienced and he went ahead and took care of our bill (I tried to pay for the drinks we had since we really did enjoy those....I tasted their whiskey and it was good...a bit harsh but a different taste than others) I find it hard for us to come back again. The pictures make it seem like a much more beautiful place than what it really is. Regular tables/chairs. There is nothing about this restaurant that screams high end other than the pictures they have posted themselves. The experience is not worth the price. Edit: To whoever replied back from Maverick Whiskey. Your apology is not accepted. Youve said the same thing to others on here since yalls Establishment opened and it seems nothing has been corrected.

Cool building and the beers were decent but the whiskey and gin tasted like moonshine. Only harsher. $15 to park, $25 for a beer and spirit flight,$25 for tour for 2. We came in to the restaurant no one greeted us so we sat ourselves down at the only clean table. Lots of staff around but unorganized, we waited a long time for someone to come to our table. We did not order any cocktails just wine, but people from the other tables were going to the bar themselves to get their drinks. The food was good but there doesnt seem to be a manger to organize anyone, the waitresses were talking over the customers to see who and how to serve items, the tables were not cleaned. They brought our dessert and never took our dinner plates away so we had to move them to make room. The waitresses were nice just not trained, you expect more for the price.

Tried this place out the other day with my wife and was very impressed. The service was excellent, and the food was awesome. We started off with the artichoke dip and were blown away by the flavor. Best artichoke dip I have had. My wife had the shrimp and grits and I had the gumbo. The grits in the shrimp and grits were creamy, buttery, and perfectly cooked and the shrimp were delicious and tender and had a nice crisp snap when you took a bite. Cooked to perfection. The gumbo was out of this world. The flavors were perfect and the rice and seafood in the dish were perfectly cooked and tasted absolutely amazing. The sea scallops were a nice touch. The craft beer selection was awesome as well. Im not much of a whiskey drinker but I do love craft beer and the tasting flight was phenomenal. Highly recommend.

The consensus with the group I was with said their food was generally not cooked to their liking and under seasoned. For example, my redfish was overcooked and the parmesan sauce for the broccolini had an odd flavor. Also, there is not a beer list with flavor profiles available to review in the restaurant. When ordering the beer flight, one must guess and is slightly frustrating. Im sure the server loved explaining the beer selection multiple times since it was difficult to hear in a larger group.

There was no push or information about the house brews or whiskey. Appetizers were meh and completely indelicate. Knife cuts were sloppy which meant getting giant bites of raw onion in the tartare. Beer cheese soup was thick and salty by itself. Porkchop was extremely underwhelming. Salad was overdressed and vinaigrette was sharp and and unbalanced. Pork belly was the best bite all night. Everything lacked finesse. We will not be back.
