We love hanging out at The Good Kind. Chef Tim and her staff have created an oasis in Southtown with wonderful conversation areas, delicious eats, and well-crafted cocktails. We really enjoy movie nights. Great views of The Tower. A gem. Vegetarian options: Delicious, healthy options.

A late San Antonio summer Sunday afternoon and the Good Kind is being a kindly host to a party of 12 or so celebrating some remarkable passage of time in a nice outdoor spot roofed from the sun and un-walled to the breezes where an amiable DJ plays a good mix, even taking requests, and celebrants sip from a variety of carefully concocted drinks and bite into similarly varied fare one might classify as comfort food if one were such a classifying reviewer or simply good simple food if writerly pretentiousness is left in the car. Bonus: A number of nice spots to gather/assemble/amble on the colorful, plant-tacular grounds. Name of the place begs a curious visitor to ask something like, Say, why the name? though this correspondent forgot to ask and refuses to troll the web for clues partly on principle though mostly on man-splain-y pride. Turn that frown upside down at The Good Kind Southtown

The out door area is pretty fabulous, staff is friendly, but Im not sure i would call deep fried food healhy. Fries were super salty, mozzarella bites were close to being burned and the spicy chicken was deep fried and definately burnt. Might be back if on this side of town for a smoothie.

That was not posted on the website, no mention that they only serve 2 things on Tuesday, not not very visible when only checking the website menu.

Ive been to the Good Kind a handful of times and have always enjoyed it. Its a lovely patio, chill ambiance, and usually friendly service. Tonight, Friday, May 10, 2024, was pretty awful that we ended up just leaving. We got there between 9:30-9:40, with the Good Kind closing at 11. We waited for about 20 minutes before a woman emerged from somewhere in back. This was after I called several times hello!!! Because nobody was coming. By the time she emerged from the back, we had been sitting on the patio waiting to see how long this would go on. She then proceeded to start cleaning, sweeping and mopping the place. It was 10:05pm when we left without ever getting any acknowledgement or service. Ive never owned a restaurant or bar, but I would be pretty upset if my employees worked in this way. Not visiting the counter for 20+ minutes and then starting to close things up over an hour before the restaurant closed.

This is by far, one of my favorite restaurants in San Antonio; the atmosphere, food, and service are awesome! They serve healthy sustainable food that is delicious! Vegetarian options: The good kind focuses on natural, plant-based foods, they have vegetarian and vegan options. Everything is sustainable. In fact, a lot of the herbs and spices used are grown right there on the grounds where they have outside seating and beautiful, relaxing gardens. It is totally totally delicious!

Decided to try out this place to celebrate my friend s birthday. The atmosphere for the outside seating was beautiful on a Sunday after noon. I got a breakfast bowl to eat which had good flavor. My friends all had ordered food that came with chicken, and one of those dishes the chicken was still raw in the middle not fully cooked. After 30 minutes only 4/5 of us received our meals. One of my friends waited an additional 15-20 minutes until her food was ready.

Went on a Sunday with my 17 yo son. I parked across the street from the restaurant ( And there is lots of parking across the street). Looks small from the outside, but very spacious once you enter onto the grounds. Lots of tables to sit and music playing. We arrived around 1130am for Brunch. He had a burger. french fries, and a lemonade that the bartender made from scratch. He said it was DELICIOUS! I had the chicken and waffles and coffee, DELICIOUS as well. There were vendors on the grounds selling items like jewelry, headbands, and those things that fit on your Crocs. Bikers stopped by to rest and chat and so did dogwalkers and owners! Had a great time!

I decided to try this place out since it s near my new place. I was really disappointed with my experience here. First off, it s expensive for no reason. I ordered cauliflower wings and corn in a cup with 2 drinks nothing crazy. It ended up being $45 lol. But whatever I thought maybe they could be so good it s worth it. WRONG. The cauliflower was soggy and stale. The corn in a cup was pure lime juice just sour and acidic couldn t taste anything else. Not only that, they make you go pick your food up where you pay when they have perfectly capable employees lollygaging their way around the place. I also still had to wait after they texted me. Flimsy plastic forks weren t included, we had to ask for utensils. No biggy but what was a biggy was that: The food took 45 mins to come out . For two simple starters especially corn in a cup? That should never take thatttt long. And there were only 6 people at the place it s safe to say im never coming here again.

Really cute and relaxing spot, but the food is mediocre and is not worth the price. And the GF options are exactly that, dry crumbly buns that you can find in the freezer section at Walmart. We wont be back again especially since the fryers are no longer GF. The mocktail was delicious tho. Oh and Parking is non existent so be prepared to park a block or 2 down and walk. Not a big deal but for some it may be. ***Just reviewed some of the bad reviews and responses from the owner*** What a joke. TONY V. WINS THE CAKE for *extra*ordinarily bad, face-to-face service at The Good Kind- despite being closed for the day! Tony raised his voice, spoke over me, and suggested error on my part after I was charged for an online order and waited for 30 minutes in the lot within his view, as instructed by the online service. Would have been good-er to post notice on the website, give notice on the voicemail, and disable online ordering. Food was good and drink was strong Music was perfect for a Saturday afternoon. Wheelchair accessibility: The majority of the seating is outdoors with small tables and chairs. Chairs can be easily moved around to fit a wheelchair. The ground is gravel, but level so probably easy to roll on.

I enjoy the ambiance of The Good Kind Southtown each time I visit. The atmosphere is beautiful, the gardens are so beautiful and around each and every corner is a picturesque opportunity. The music that is Dj ed is always a vibe and has a dance worthy beat. I took the opportunity to brunch with my family for Mother s Day. Parking is a small issue but it s Southtown and parking wasn t too far away. We ordered inside, a Turkey Sandwich and a Hot Chicken Sandwich, I ordered French Toast and some Chicken Tenders for my littles. We waited a bit, but it s expected since it was Mother s Day. Our time was occupied looking at the garden areas and picking seating and taking pictures, so it went by fast. Food was hot and fresh, all served with a large portion of fries. I was pleasantly surprised of the kid sized portions. 4 large slices of French toast sticks just maybe needed one more cup of syrup to dip. But it was good. My Turkey sandwich was so good I think it was definitely the cranberry sauce. My son inhaled his hot chicken sandwich it had a very nice flavor. We sat back and played Jenga with the large blocks and took some more pictures. Overall, it was a great experience. I will definitely be returning. Thank you.

$15 for a frozen margarita in a plastic cup. I was asked if id like to add lavender. Of course I said yes! I believe it was on the the rim w the salt. Which was not very noticeable at all because plastic cups don t hold salted rims well . Yikes I almost declined the small drink, but was w new company and didn t want to make a fuss. But to me a $15 margarita should be made w wayyy more gusto! I was going to have a soup but realized quickly it wasn t fresh. The bartender went back to see if it was available. When she came back, I asked her if it was made today. She immediately said no. I appreciated her honesty, but I declined the soup, worried it would be an experience like the drink. Also, there didn t seem to be a staffed kitchen. Maybe because it was slow. I would visit again if happenstance. I now know what to expect. Friendly staff and great music playing!!!

While I absolutely love the outdoor ambiance of The Good Kind, its one of the most lush, vegetation spots in Southtown and totally perfect for pictures, I cannot get over the feeling that I was ripped off with the food. I ordered two things. The corn in a cup was $6 (compared to $3 at a local taco truck) and had no salt whatsoever. The jalapeno poppers were an astonishing $14 and while the menu said that it comes with 5 pieces, those pieces are actually half of jalapenos so technically you get 2.5 jalapeno poppers. To make it even worse, the bacon was burnt to a crisp and two of my poppers didnt have any cream cheese. I can see myself coming back here to enjoy the scenery and listen to some good music, but I would never order food here again.

I have been telling all my friends about this place. We love, love hanging here on Sunday s for drinks after brunch. They have a GREAT DJ. My best-friend warned me, Whatever you do, do not eat there. It was a pretty solid warning. I agreed with her since some of the reviews are indicative of her war in. No worries for us since we usually came in after noon just for drinks. Most of the time, we wonder, Do they hire anyone with solid experience? There are several people working but must have the most, 3 yrs, server or cook experience. No matter, we are here for drinks. BUT TODAY, we were hungry and took a risk. Wow- I thought this was a joke! Have you read their story and about the owner-chef/investors? The picture is the review for a restaurant who taunts some type of expectations. My recommendation- hire an experienced person to oversee your daily operation, even Sundays! Experience means at least 15 yrs in the industry. Oh and get this, they gave me a coupon for a free meal. Lol. Thank you, I ll eat before I get here.

Great little hang out that can get busy which means you will wait a bit for the one cashier to take your order. After you do that you usually get your order pretty fast. Beer selection is limited (four taps) but is a good selection of local craft beer that is on the light side (kolsch, light lagers, pale ales, etc). Limited seating inside (AC) and lots of outdoor seating that can be in full sun. Dog friendly and (unfortunately) kid friendly too (it would be nice if both were required to be on leash). Parking is little to none but SouthTown is walkable! Kid-friendliness: Please keep your dogs and kids on leash...

I had eaten here before with my coworkers and it was okay. So today for lunch I decided to give it another try since its just across the street from my job. I called repeatedly and got no answer to place the order so I just went in. I ordered the Asian wings and was told that it did not come with fries but was offered a side of fries. Well, the 15.00 wings ended up costing $30! All I had besides the fries was a can sprite. I was charged $8.00 for a side of old, cold, chewy fries. I never did receive a txt to say my order was ready. So went in to check on it and waited an additional couple minutes. Initially he gave me a total of $26.00 but when I got to my office I received a message on my phone from my card sayin 31.00 was approved. So Im guessing it was a service fee added. My favorite Lamb chop dinner from Shisha Cafe was less than 5 wings and fries lol! Definitely not worth it. I would only recommend this place for drinks.

IMPORTANT: there was a gentleman who is allergic to gluten. He called the day before to verify they had items on the menu that were gluten-free. The chicken and waffles are labeled gluten free, but only the chicken is gluten-free, not the waffles! In case you have celiac disease or any other type of gluten allergy beware. I would consider taking off the GF label off of the menu. No parking on the premises. Some people parked behind the gate for morning yoga and a staff member around brunch time went to each table letting everyone know to move their car from the lot. Also they use plastic forks and knives that don t cut your food. My waffle was burnt. Basic breakfast; I guess the hype is the different types of seating outside and the 70 year old DJ on weekends. Next time I will just do yoga and drinks.

Settled for the breakfast bowl and it was the smallest portion of food Ive been served in a while. Literally 5 bites of food that barely covered the bottom of the bowl. It was the size of a side salad, maybe even less. The egg was still way too runny for me, so I pushed it aside. The hibiscus margarita mocktail was great, but I finished it quickly to leave to go get more food elsewhere. Also to note, very limited parking and nearest street parking was several blocks away.

We came in rather late for dinner I guess, so I appreciate it very much that everyone was so flexible, and nice (and gave us extra water, we didn t even ask:) it s a beautiful place, with a garden, hedges, lawns, board games, and a ping pong table (we tried everything I think, thank you so much). The kids also loved the huge ventilators spraying mist)) Oh and fries are sooo good)

I always drove past this place and finally had a chance to stop during my lunch break. I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered a burrito to-go, which was healthy and delicious. Next time, I m going to stay longer and try a few other items! Their patio looked really nice and cozy. Also noticed they have CBD drinks, which I m going to try!

So we used to love this place, great place to grab some food and a drink. Very good with my wifes dietary restrictions. That being said the past few times we have been in the good has been horribly inconsistent. The prices of the food have gone up and at the same time they are trying to short you on the fries that used to come with the sandwichs. The service has gone way down hill as well. Its really sad because we love coming here. I think that after getting some awards they have been overwhelmed by the increased business. Wont be back for a while.

Atmosphere was awsome the location was nice and the staff was very friendly and informative about the menu. However the food was not as good as I expected my spicy chicken sandwich was burned and my fries had a chard taste to them and not the good kind. Food was also a bit pricey for what you get. It was a nice place to try out but I will likely not be eating here again.

I had the spicy chicken burger and it was absolutely awful. I could ve had a better sandwich at McDonald s. The fries were too salty and had no flavor either. Not to mention they were out of about 5 other things I tried to order. I will say the staff was very friendly and the atmosphere is nice but don t get any food from here maybe just drinks.

Definitely a cool place to hang with your friends. Actually went with my girlfriend as it was on the way and we were hungry. Seems much more appropriate as a friend-hangout rather than a date or with a partner. Food was pricey for the quality, you order inside and they text you to come back and pick it up. Okay-food, the fries we had with our sandwiches were very soggy. Overall go with friends (or maybe close family). Food is okay. Very nice hangout spot though. Plus our dog was welcome to eat outside at the tables.

Nice place, most of the seating is outdoors. This is tough when its hot out, though they do have fans and looks like misters. The misters were not on when we were there. They do have a few indoor seats. They have a water station as well, though it would be nice if they had a few more around. The food was very good. The only issue was the fries. I like them a bit more crisp, they were very limp. Everything else was great. Restrooms were clean and air conditioned.

I guess but she was nice. He on the other hand was rude to her.He honestly needed help and to work a little faster and maybe appear Grateful he had a job.We ended up leaving after waiting & waiting&waiting .We never got our drinks we were soo disappointed! Awesome atmosphere, friendly staff, but the food was just mediocre. We got the fish tacos, a side of sweet potatoes and the carrot nut bread. The fish was crisp and freshly fried, but it was on a very dull corn tortilla with some cabbage and thin line of green salsa. In theory, this is a good recipe, but it came together in a very bland way. The sweet potatoes were seasoned and fried, but the soggy texture and lukewarm temperature leads me to believe that they were fried yesterday and microwaved today. The carrot nut bread was actually flavorful, but it was sliced very thin and then burned in the toaster. With a little care and effort, our lunch could have been great. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place. Not worth the eat.

I love that there is separate seating (in front of the live music or away from the live music) it was our first time there and I will definitely be going back! However, there was this one bartender who was yelling at the kids very rudely when they were looking at the back garden. She kept yelling DONT TOUCH THAT or GET AWAY FROM THERE. Then she came to our table and started looking through the gift my friend had given my baby. I hadn t even open the present and she said she wanted to come see what was in the Easter basket . I thought that was pretty weird.

Updated review: I recently took my Dad to The Good Kind to give it a second chance and also because Roseys Fish and Chips was going to be there. We wanted to give Roseys a try and glad we did. I had the strawberry margarita on the rocks and the drink was made much better this time. It wouldve been disappointing if it wasnt good since it was National Margarita Day. The Good Kind had a $5 special on them. My Dad and I shared an order of the Fish and chips and there was plenty to share. We ended up bringing leftover chips home too. Glad I gave it another chance. Original review: My first impression of The Good Kind was 2 years ago at my first Yelp Elite event where breakfast bowls and smoothies were provided at the rowing gym on Broadway. The food and smoothie were great so I was truly looking forward to checking out the place some time. Last week, my husband suggested we check it out for dinner. The outdoor space spreads out and has pockets of beautiful areas to sit in. One of the best parts was the Drag Queen Game Night - playing trivia both regular and Christmas and loteria. There were prizes but though we didnt win, we were glad we stayed to play. It pains me to write the following and hoping its an off night or something. My husbands mojito was sour so he brought it back and the newer one was better. I had the botanical drink, hibiscus lime margarita and that turned out pretty sour too. I brought that back in and the gal added much syrup to it, mixed it, and added some more. Sadly, it was still too sour. Cant say Ive ever sent back a drink for a refund but I did with this one. When all the food came out, I was a bit disappointed that so many disposables were used from utensils, plates, and sauce containers. When I asked one of the servers, I found out that it was the measure the restaurant chose to avoid covid issues. Understandably so but weve also frequented many other restaurants with regular utensils and plates with no issue. I honestly hated to see all the waste we were creating. Also, almost all the food came with no sauces or dressing - my husbands fish tacos, and salads. I had ordered a veggie burger but was served a beef burger. I had asked about the charcuterie board and was shown the size of the board. Unfortunately, the actual amount of food was less than what would cover the board and the meats were tough. The best part was the cheese spread and the preserves. My first impression and actual experience didnt quite match. May try it again possibly when they go back to regular utensils and plates.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place ! Have been in more than six times over the past month since I live downtown, but wanted to see if food was consistently good before writing my review. The garden is chic, yet inviting and comfortable. The menu is simple and not overwhelming, but offers a little bit of everything - all for very reasonable prices. What I most love is I dont hate myself after eating here. On the contrary, I feel like I have done something loving for myself in eating food that nourishes my body, mind and spirit. You can tell these people are not just selling food, but crafting soulful creations. So far I have had the following: The Cauliflower Wings (Incredible - perfect compliment to any meal) The Market Bowl - (Very filling and lots of unique flavors) The Market Salad - (MUST try the Carrot Ginger Dressing - Addictive) Turkey and Cheddar Panini (Very generous serving) Veggie Burger with Fries (One of the best I have ever had) Burrito with chicken (Very good) BLTA - (Loved this version with avocado) Spicy Chicken Sandwich (This sandwich rocks !! Not too spicy and is crisp and tender). My only request is some type of dessert be added to the menu. I wanted to to try the zucchini chocolate cake and was informed it is not available. Thank you for sharing your amazing space, inviting those of us dining to nurture ourselves with healthy and delicious food. Have a Blessed and Abundant 2022.

The Good: Gorgeous location, attention to detail is on point, and my food was good. To be honest black bean burgers can be very hit or miss. I wasn t wowed but I enjoyed the quality of ingredients and would have returned to try them again. I still might but... The Bad: Totally unhinged, unstable, unprofessional server. A few of her remarks included I GUESS I could ask the kitchen if they could serve your burger with pickles (regular pickles are not included), oh just tell me to shut up (I knew exactly what I wanted when I got there and this didn t sit well with her because she wanted to run through the menu, and finally, I can t express exactly what she said before I left because I didn t hear her but it was something to the effect of well if you really didn t hear me then we re good ...as if she has the authority to.... what exactly? Easily the most immature nasty customer service I ve ever received and its clear some of their employees lack basic people skills. That being said I still think they re worth trying, even more so if they take action to enforce basic respect and professionalism among their staff.

You have to visit a lot of places to find the good kind of brunch place. Unfortunately, the Good Kind is the bad kind of brunch place. Mediocre ambiance, a sad scrambled egg and toast served on a paper plate, a pile of raw spinach in a bowl with a dollop of guac, and self-service for $30 doesn t really add up to a memorable experience.
