UPDATE. I reached out to the restaurant as suggested by the response by the owner below. The person who answered at Ambra basically laughed at me, and doubt my request for a phone call was passed along. Glad food poisoning is hilarious to them. I will never ever go back. Also adding-- warning if you have kids. We once sent our very independent 8&10 year olds to the bathroom only to have them come back upset that there were men in the womens bathroom. I am extremely progressive, but the bathroom situation here is not ok. I do not feel comfortable sharing an out in the open bathroom with men. And children absolutely should not. ORIGINAL REVIEW Ive been here 5 times. Each time has been a different experience. Got severe food poisoning the most recent visit. The good--- We lived in a top culinary city before moving to the valley, so we were happy to have this place arrive. We first went within the first 6 weeks of it opening and had a great experience. Service was attentive, food was cooked perfectly. Every time we have ordered chicken we cannot figure out how they make it so tender and flavorful. Service has always been very good. The cocktails are unique and we love trying the new ones. The mediocre --- Every time we have ordered 1-2 of the same thing and it has been cooked differently. The Sea Bass dish (which has changed iterations) was cooked perfectly the first time. The 4 times to follow , it was either overcooked or burned. Its a ~$50 dish, and sea bass is a delicate fish. I know its hard to cook well, but I guess I kept ordering it hoping it would be the same buttery soft perfection I ate the first time but it just has not been. Most recently it was in a char so that no other flavor was noticable except the charcoal crust. It was like eating pure carbon. The lamb lollipops we have always ordered and they have been perfection twice and too hard to eat the others despite being ordered medium. The most recent time? Youll see below. Wagyu beef steaks (different cuts)-- same issue. The most recent my husband was barely able to cut through the meat with a steak knife at medium rare. Too many tendons and with a carbon crust. The bad--- I really hate to post this but its really serious enough to mention/warm others. On our most recent visit (8/2024) for my birthday, we ordered lamb lollipops and the crispy rice and spicy salmon appetizers, Mero Sea Bass, Denver Wagyu, a chicken entree and a side of truffle fries. 30 minutes into eating, I started feeling extremely nauseated. By 45 min, I left my husband sitting at the table and ran out of the restaurant to vomit in the parking lot. I did not come back inside. Why did I go outside? Because of the co-ed open to the restaurant bathrooms. My husband had to sit there by himself the remainder of the meal. I spent the next 24 hrs with bacterial food poisoning , which indicates poor food handling/pre-formed toxin, likely Staph. I was so so disappointed. The likely culprit based on timing was one of the appetizers as I was feeling ill half way through the main course. My husband who did not get sick, did not eat the lamb lollipops so we suspect it was these. I had no other food during the day (OMAD diet) so theres no other explanation for what happened, $260 meal to be severely ill , I do not see how we ever go back again, but perhaps the health department should.

Impeccable World Class chefs menu! Melt in your mouth Wagyu steaks and Sea Bass. Must try the Rice Crisp Salmon appetizer and Bone Marrow side dish. Cocktail selection is out of this world premium! Char butter with fire toasted bread as a starter was a great surprise. Presentation shows great care is put into to every single plate. No expense was spared in building out this classy restaurant too, very well designed and decorated. Amara rivals the best restaurants in most large cities. Congratulations!! We will be back each time we travel to the area.

Did not plan for dinner out a little under dressed but we decided to try this place. It was a well needed escape and felt pampered. Staff helpful with all selections and I would highly recommend oysters, steak, aji potatoes and blueberry burnt cheesecake with some amazing red wine. The wood smoked butter added an extra surprise. Thank you! The Cute Old Couple on the Full Moon We are going back to try the Black Forest bark!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Ambra, a new restaurant located in McAllen. The ambiance and atmosphere of the restaurant were both exceptional, and I would give it a 10 out of 10 rating. The lighting, décor, and layout all contribute to a warm and inviting atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable from the moment you walk in the door. I ordered the Wagyu Skirt Steak, which was served in a 10-ounce portion, and I must say that the food quantity was excellent. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the presentation of the dish was visually appealing. However, there were a couple of areas where the restaurant could improve. Firstly, the service was a bit slow, and we had to ask for water multiple times. The food was also a bit slow in arriving at our table. Nonetheless, the waitstaff was friendly and courteous, which made up for the delay. Secondly, the restroom cleanliness was not up to par, especially in the mens stalls. Although the restaurant has an open bathroom concept, it is imperative that the facilities are kept clean and hygienic at all times. Despite these minor issues, my experience at Ambra was fantastic, and I would gladly dine there again. The food was delicious, the ambiance was lovely, and the overall experience was delightful. If the restaurant can improve its service and bathroom cleanliness, it would be a perfect dining destination

Service DID NOT REACH EXPECTATIONS! It is very sad that a great restaurant with great cooks was brought down because of discriminatory service. I had a night out with my girlfriend, and thought itd be a good idea to try the nice and luxurious place. Having a nice menu, nice lobby, and dining room, I was truly expecting exceptional service, although that was not the case. I guess it is because me and my girlfriend are young or maybe werent dressed as fancy and bling as the other dinners next to us. I know the service to the others was superior than the one we received because the tables are 2 feet away from each others and can hear the server tone change from our neighbors table and then ours! Our original server (nose job girl) transferred her table to another server, only because she did not want to attend us! I thought she had somewhere to go, but she just neglected us and payed attention to her other table, didnt even say bye or nothing :/ Later that night they were in a hurry to get me out of there and offered me the tab even before I was finished eating. Even thought in the table next to me they offered dessert and more drinks, I did not even get asked for a refill on my spiked lemonade once! Im usually not one to complain but this attitude and treatment really ruined my night and is something that shouldnt be done anywhere! DEFINITELY NOT A SERVICE THAT SHOULD BE RECEIVED FROM A HIGH END RESTAURANT!

Be ready to be transported into a different world at AMBRA. The atmosphere was phenomenal, service was excellent as it felt like we were treated like royalty, food was delicious and drinks were strong. We celebrated our anniversary and let our kind server Sergio know. He offered us complimentary wine to celebrate and took a picture of us as we posed in front of our Happy Anniversary Cheesecake. Although there was a minor language barrier between Sergio and us, he did not let that get in the way of our experience as he was timely, attentive and kind. The food was delicious. I m not much of a steak person, but the 8 oz Wagyu Steak was the best steak I ever had. It was cooked perfectly as it was very juicy and tender. Husband enjoyed the Sea Bass and Truffle French Fries as a side. AMBRA makes a simple dish like French Fries into something exquisite and tasteful. If anything our food could have been a little bit more warmer, but it was so delicious we didn t mind. I am very pleased we took a chance at this restaurant. I recommend AMBRA for any special occasion, spend the dollar and treat you and your loved ones as everybody deserves this phenomenal experience.

I made reservations to have dinner and specifically asked to sit outside because 1. the person is an attorney who came from out of town to discuss private matters while having a nice dinner 2. I work surrounded by people and I did not want to be surrounded by loud talking people 3. Why even have an outdoor seating if like the host said its weird that someone wants to sit outside. We were so shocked by the level of audacity by this young ladies attitude. When I asked her why? Whats wrong with sitting outside after she made a smirk she said its weird . Have some class. I went to Ambra for my anniversary, and I ordered my celebratory steak rare to medium rare. The stake came to my table and looked appealing as the center was cooked to order. However, it smelled burnt and tasted like char (i.e. bitter and unappetizing). The grill marks were too aggressive and just overwhelmed any pleasant steak flavor that the poor piece of meat had to offer. Ive never sent a steak back in my life, but there was no way I could eat it something that tasted like ash. The manager came out and offered to cook another steak with the caveat that it would come out the same implying they had cooked it properly and I was in the wrong. He explained they use charcoal at 700-800 degrees and use an imported grill. Based on the results served me that night, I conclude that 700-800 degrees is too hot for steak. That is a good temperature for baking a Neopolitan pizza, but far too brutal for steak. God only knows what a medium or well done steak would taste like in that inferno!!! I felt it would be crazy for me to expect satisfactory results given the managers warning and declined his offer for a redo. I honestly also felt dismissed by the manager but was later validated by the waiter when she acknowledged the steak did taste burnt. Looking past the steak, my wifes dishes were great, and dessert was wonderful. Would I come back? Nah. When I celebrate, I celebrate with steak, and there are quite a few other restaurants in McAllen that can properly cook one.

I was there to celebrate a birthday and it was perfect. I had flowers sent ahead of time and not only did they survive but they were already on the table when we got there. The atmosphere was nice But what I didnt like was that they charge me for a sauce that they didnt mention that there was going to be a charge for it since I order steak I usually eat with A1 sauce and since they didnt have it they recommended me to have their sauce instead so I did and the sauce wasnt all that btw and they charge me for a small little sauce @ $5 I think they should make ppl aware I gone to fancy restaurant before and they never make a charge like this I prefer going too other steak house if I am going to eat Tomahawk.

Everything was delicious! Every appetizer we tried was 10/10. The Lobster Mac & cheese was amazing Do NOT skip out on dessert! It was the highlight as we were not expecting such a fun and interactive dessert with the Beehive , and the flavors were out of this world ! Definitely recommend the lobster Mac and cheese, roasted mollejas, duo Delight, bee hive, bone marrow, butter curry cauliflower and crispy rice with spicy salmon!

Started off great when they first opened, now it s just become like any other place with way too loud dance music. Initially they had a great vibe going with classy ambiance and music. Food is good but not great or worth their prices. Service was attentive, but to the point of being burdensome and overstaffed. Had lots of excitement and hope for this place the first few times I went when they opened but it s changed now and is obnoxious to be at.

This was our first time trying out this place. I loved the ambiance of the place , music was good and not overly stimulating. The service was awesome always had new clean silverware and plates for every course of our meal. MARCO was an excellent server definitely ask for him when you go dine at Ambra . Most importantly the food was super delicious . He got a filet mignon cooked Medium Rare and it came out so perfect with a side of lobster Mac n cheese thats was so good,I couldnt stop eating it. I got the Korean Sweet shrimp with squid ink spaghetti it was different.(If you dont like sweet dont get this plate). But the Burnt Cheesecake was soo freaking yummy, we didnt want to stop eating it at all .

This place is excellent, the lamb lollipops were perfectly seared and glazed. The 16 oz bone in ribeye was made perfectly just how I asked, well seasoned. The Japanese Wagyu Nigiri was an amazing, silky, delightful experience. The Lobster Mac and Cheese was sooo delicious enjoyed every single bite. The Paella (arroz con mariscos) was spicy and flavorful, filled to the rim with calamari, squid and shrimp. Drinks were very clean and tasty as well. The dessert was an experience to say the least. The raspberry and gold topped cake was extremely creamy and fluffy. The ambiance was unique and cant wait to go back and try the other dishes. Everything was beyond what was expected. This is a must try for fine dining. 9.6/10

Exceptional location. Came here to celebrate our 3 year anniversary and we do not regret a thing! Sergio was an amazing server. He was very kind, had a good sense of humour, and made sure we were always doing well. Not a second passed by where we felt we needed more from our server or the service. Drinks were promptly refilled, plates were quickly taken away when needed, and food was not slow to come out. The food was amazing! I would definitely recommend this place and I hope to come back here in the future. I especially loved the cozy, yet luxury, atmosphere. Great drink selection, too. The food was very tasteful and filling for the serving sizes. I had the 10oz Wagyu skirt steak with Asparagus and mashed potatoes and it was extremely filling! Steak was juicy and filled with flavor from the different spices they used. I came for an anniversary and Sergio was our waiter.
