We could have gone to any other place for lunch but we came to Hayashi for lunch the server was horrible!! Made us wait for just about everything! No customer service! I don t even think the Restaurant Manager cares!!! How Customers are treated! It s a shame! Hopefully the Owner will read this. I will call to complain about the waiter.

A Dangerous Dining Experience Avoid at All Costs!** I recently tried to dined at Hayashi Hibachi McAllen TX and I feel compelled to warn others about a serious food safety issue that I encountered. The establishment was mixing raw chicken, raw seafood, and raw steak on the same platter. This is not just a poor practice; it s a recipe for disaster! The risk of cross-contamination in a restaurant setting should never be taken lightly. Combining different types of raw meat increases the chances of spreading harmful bacteria, which can lead to severe foodborne illnesses. It s shocking that such practices are allowed to continue. I urge anyone considering dining here to think twice. Food safety should be a top priority, and this establishment clearly demonstrates a disregard for basic health standards. Such negligence could endanger the well-being of unsuspecting customers. After noticing this alarming situation, I spoke with the manager, who went into the kitchen to discuss it with the kitchen manager. Surprisingly, the kitchen manager agreed with my concerns about the mixing of raw meats yet Despite this acknowledgment, they proceeded to allow two more platters to be brought out and cooked in the same unsafe manner. At that point, I decided I couldnt stay any longer and walked out.

My boyfriend and I came from Colorado looking for a good hibachi place, and we were VERY happy with our experience! We had a good server and our chef was excellent. We had Chris Nguyen who was very personable and an amazing chef. The portions are HUGE and everything was super flavorful. I ve been to benihana s and this place is a lot better for the price. Definitely coming back!

It all depends on if you get a good nice chef or not. The guy who attended us was not worth standing at the grill. I was super disappointed. He had no smile on goo his face, no intention of making a nice atmosphere. On top of that, how he treated food was unacceptable. No manner of making it look nice. He would splash oil, water and seasonings over to our table side and it burnt. His technique was not well enough. He messed up with our orders too and uneven distribution of the food Unfortunately, my experience at this store is not very good

I have been to this place about 10 times in the last 3 years. Its never disappointed. I dare say the food quality surpassed that of popular hibachi chain Benihana, although Ive only visited the location on Louisiana Ave in Houston. Some of the chefs arent the most entertaining, but at the end of the day, Im only there for the food. I always go for the seafood delight dish, and theyre rice and veggies, which is off the chain. Ive met some pretty interesting people, which is a plus and a good way to do so. I will be back and highly recommend it.

Hayashi is just consistently perfect. Ive never had a major issue except that they dont normally take reservations. The soup is delicious- I would take it any day over the miso soup from other Asian restaurants. The meals typically come with a salad, and the food is always cooked to perfection. The price isnt obscene, you get large portions, and the atmosphere is nice. You can go in casual clothing, but its also great for a date night where you dont want to feel an uncomfortable silence with someone. A+

UPDATE: In the owners comment below, I was told to reach out via email to make things right, but no one has yet to respond to me. It speaks volumes that this happened weeks ago and still, nothing. I will never eat here again. We found a ROACH in our food! It was absolutely horrifying and disgusting. When we called the restaurant, they insinuated that we placed it there ourselves, claiming there were no roaches when the food was packed. Who would do such a thing to their own food?! Its appalling. I believe a health inspector should investigate this matter promptly.

This place has gone downhill in a rush. The previous time I was here, I witnessed one of the kitchen guys go to the restroom (wearing gloves), use the urinal, and walk straight back into the kitchen area. Just gross. it doesnt matter if he was washing dishes. Just gross. This last time, we had a great server and a warm welcome when we walked in. They sat us in an area close to the kitchen and far from the main dining room. We were not eating hibachi, just ordering from the menu. Service and food was fantastic. We must have spent about 45 minutes there. The whole time, kitchen employees were using the area next to us as their break area. Talking really loud. Really loud. Everything from inappropriate language and subjects. It made our experience a crappy one. The worst part was that managers were walking by and never told them anything. Like it was acceptable and normal. We wont be going back. This is just one of several restaurants that have gone downhill in the McAllen area lately.

Come in for a Sushi Rolls Take Out Order at 9:30pm on a Saturday. The host gladly took the order and have to wait for more than 40 minutes for 3 sushi rolls. Wanted to cancel and one of the waitress confirm the order was canceled too with a very stern face with no response to hospitality. When I come to the sushi station, the chef and the waitress was having a blast while making I m assuming my order after 40 minutes. I still paid for my food since my wife needs it but if she doesn t, I couldnt careless. Very bad customer services or maybe this place has a thing with racial profiling to Asian. Maybe. If you want to order food her and wait for nearly an hour, come here! Update on the sushi rolls, not good, not fresh, tempura shrimps was pre-fried and very soggy. 2/10

Last I went on May 27 2024 and saw a roach roaming by the blinds I m sure there s more, also gratuity being part of the bill needs to change we had a bad server and I m sure she knew she could slack due to she was still going to get 13 dollars out of me, our group was disappointed by the service and the fee it wasn t great service to leave a tip like that. Have to start off with the wait. For a restaurant with such long wait times there is no where to sit. You can sit at the bar and enjoy a cocktail but the girl bartender that is here is scooping ice with her hands and is taking stains from the glass with her bare hands as well. In the time i ve been sat here about 1 hour she has not ONCE cleaned or washed her hands. She is talking to a customer and is enjoying a cocktail her self it seems without helping anyone else. This is so disgusting and disappointing for a customer who has been sitting here waiting to be asked if I need anything.

Had lunch here a few days ago, food was ok, I say ok because as they are cooking your food it s made in stages. While they are cooking the next part your first part is getting cold. Unbelievable how the quality of this place has significantly dropped. Used to be a treat, but now if you show up without a reservation, you can wait up to 2 hours to be served. The kicker is that when you try to call ahead and make that reservation, no one ever answers. Poorly managed restaurant. The poor hostess is running around doing more than she should have to. Not a manager in sight until theres an issue. Quality of food has gone down enough to not make it worth going anymore. Its too bad, because this used to be one my favorite spots in McAllen.

The good: Food was delish. The cook was great! The bad: 3 full tables were seated after us, and they all got their food before us. I was about to go ask what the hold up was when the food started its way out to our table. The place was busy, so our drinks took long to refill. I had to kill a roach on the table. That was gross. Prices have been updated, but they need to upgrade the place as well. The tables, chairs, cook tops, cooking utensils, etcetera are very, very old. I only come to this place once a year. After a long wait to be seated, it took 15 minutes for them to take our order, 15 minutes to get the first course, 45 minutes to get the second course and then another 15 minutes to get a chef to our table. So angry with the service today. I ve waited 3 hrs. We got there at 7:40 pm and the host told us she took our name down. We saw how other people who got there after were getting sat and we were getting skipped. Then when I went to go ask the host what was going on she said she didn t even put us down. Took my assistant out to lunch as appreciation for her hard work. However, the experience was horrible, our chef couldnt get our orders correct. Asked us what our orders were at least 8Xs each! I wanted to give this place a 3 but after getting sick for 4 days I had to drop the rating. I think it was the scallops which is my favorite seafood. Sadly I seen the warning signs but stayed because my date had never experienced Hibachi. Arrived and the wait to be seated wasnt long but it was cold near the front. After seated we waited about 25 minutes for our chief. Hibachi is my favorite and I travel 270 days each year so Ive been in a few. As for the chief show, maybe it was his first day. Missing eggs, no Mt Fuji volcano, no food toss, etc. Most of my meal was over seasoned but I tried to force down my scallops and stopped. We actually did not take any of our leftovers. The after effects were horrible. Ive never had FP before. I had all of the symptoms except 1... A refund.

My party of 6 made reservations on Saturday night to celebrate a birthday. We have visited once before and had a fabulous experience. This time was completely different. The server was never around. The chef just spun 2 eggs as the show no big flames or other fun interactions. We were super disappointed. Especially when we saw all of the other tables having a great show. All 6 of us had brown/black lettuce in our salad bowls and the salads were served with ranch dressing (when we were expecting the ginger dressing). I had to go to the bar to get a water since we rarely saw our waiter. With the automatic gratuity on the check, it seems like the server did not have to try to do a good job.

Dining while Black (Black/ African people) be careful (I don t believe this is an establishment that wants Black/ African looking people to Payton) The experience was lack luster the service was extremely slow the food was basic to say the least. The over all micro aggressions , blatantly ignoring black people while catering towards Spanish speaking non black people is unacceptable . Myself and my husband went for a dining experience to enjoy our anniversary. We were completely treated as sub human. Order of food were completely wrong after asking to the errors to be corrected .. being spoken to as if the chef is doing me a personal favor and I need to clam down is his word as the other non black patrons of the restaurant enjoy their meal of exuberantly large amount of food that they might I add didn t order . As myself and my husband get the scraps he scraped off the grill as a second thought . A child was dinning and had more food on her plate then my over 30 year old husband who is Afghanistan war veteran . When mentioned again that my husband didn t get his food we are reluctantly given 4 extremely small shrimp . Before they even warmed up we kindly chose to leave And pay our bill because I will not beg for food Iam paying for and be expected to pay for another Payton dining experience. The manager was well informed and was extremely helpful and understanding of how disrespectful & disgusting that behavior was . And he was swift in his actions and very apologetic towards us after is abysmal experience Discriminatory behavior towards someone just because they don t look like you is unacceptable ! And be advised just because someone isn t speaking Spanish doesn t mean they don t understand everything you are saying . The food was great the steak and lobster was amazing and the spicy house sauce perfect, the Chef put on a nice show, my wife and son were very pleased. When it came to the waiter he was rude. I waited for my drinks to get refilled way to long I had to actually ask two different waiters to help me out, This waiter was not around too much. Also when it came to the payment he chuckled at my tip and said that s fine sir appropriate tip is 15-18% I explain to him that I gave the chef a $20 and he tried to explain how he only get a percentage and that the tip I gave him in cash was not fair. So I gave him another $20 tip since he belittled in front on my family. My tab was $118 plus a $40 tip so make sure you tip well you might get called out. Over take what you want from the review the food was good very good, but the service of one waiter really killed the whole experience.

Great overall but the waiter could have done a better job keeping our glasses filled and made me wait for steamed rice as everyone else in my group had it fried. Also, for some reason, the floor was very slick. I had basketball shoes on, so idk y it was so. Having had recent back surgery had me worried of a slip and fall. Chef was funny and entertaining. The food here is always amazing. If you love Asian food, you can t go wrong here. If you want hibachi grill with a chef, be prepared to wait a while for your food. Especially on the weekends. My party was told to wait an hour and 45 minutes before we ate. We chose to sit at the restaurant side and order from a menu. Food is just as good. If it s busy order from the menu and don t do the hibachi grill. Service is good but could be better but it s understandable due to how busy it is on the weekends. If you like sashimi order the $11 two fish sashimi. Lots of good size fish for the price. If you have time, make sure you take your family and friends to the hibachi part of the restaurant, it s highly entertaining. Vegetarian options: It s an Asian restaurant. Every vegetarian knows what to order at an Asian restaurant.

Ordered over the phone. Took forever to answer. When I went for my food it still wasnt ready cause they were close to closing. Had to wait for a prolonged period of time. The mignon and lobster were bland. No flavor. No seasoning. Was hoping Ramsey could of popped out and yelled at them. Too bad it was to go and Im not a local if not I would of took it back. It was good before. Standards are going down. Will have to try other places when I visit.

Placed an order for takeout and it took over an hour and a half, even though the restaurant was half empty. The hostesses disappeared for 10 minutes at a time and came back saying its almost out about 4 or 5 times. Then Id see them chatting it up with the staff. The phone at the front kept ringing continuously, with no one answering. Once we got the food, they had given us white tuna instead of real tuna, all the rolls had an overly fishy taste (off-taste), and the sushi rice kept falling apart. I dont know what happened to this place, but every time we eat sushi here it gets worse and worse. The teppanyaki is fine, but the sushi is horrendous.

It s always a hit or miss with the chefs and the flavors of the food. What ALWAYS made it better was the sriracha sauce. Why don t you all offer it anymore? We even offered to bring our own bottle and we get told we can t. We ve gone from multiple visits a week to once a month at most.

Food is good, and nothing beats food prepared in front of you for the experience. Service, on the other hand, is not good at all. We spent almost an hour from the time we sat down on the teppanyaki table up to the time the cook arrived. Prepare to wait.
