I was in town from my home in Portland, Oregon visiting relatives. One day everyone was at work and I decided to take myself out for brunch. This place was so good! I tried the lavender latte and it was like no lavender anything I had had before, and an incredible blend of flavors. They had a new menu just the day before. Portland is not known for our shrimp so I ordered shrimp and hoped it would be something special. It arrived on my table, first of all gorgeous, and the ingredients were fantastic and the chef put it all together in an original and also very delicious way! The tastes were not like anything I knew and I was so happy about that. Yay Bonhomía!

Decent and tasty but not great. Service/staff lacks professionalism. We showed up a few min after opening, and kitchen was not even ready nor finished with their prep. Server was not aware of any limitations on the menu, I had to find out they were out of something a few min after I had ordered. Ordered coffee, they told us we had to wait cause they were barely firing up the espresso machine (I noticed the barista got there late). Ordered the Japanese pancakes, they were out of them. Ordered molletes with fried eggs on top, although tasty, they were on the overcooked side from what I asked them to be. The chilaquiles were good but the portions were too small for the price tag. The salmon toast was okay, bit on the bland side of flavor. Ordered a flavored coffee, they came back and tell me they were out of it. Ordered a dragonfruit mimosa, never came. Ordered a croissant for the table as an appetizer, arrived while we were already in the middle of our main meals. Server never bothered to come back and check for any refills on water or coffee, even though we were their only table. Noticed a lot of ac vents with some sort of build up on them, looked like mold, but could be wrong. I would recommend skipping this place. Too pricey for the service and quality offered. Im so happy to have discovered this hidden jewel. It has the charm of a European café & very kind service. The menu is a unique fusion of French & Mexican cuisine. Our table enjoyed the Rose Vanilla Latte, honey cream cold brew, Sweet rosemary cappuccino, cucumber lemonade, white Chilequiles with béchamel sauce, and Duck & potatoes. I saw other options that I hope to go back & try. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free

Food was good not great particularly for pricing and portion. Service was scarce by my waiter who almost sounded offended that when he brought our appetizer that I would ask for at least a water since our coffees still werent ready. (They were also not busy at all yet 3 tables total at the time) Look of it all is great but kept getting dripped on by the AC vent above us.

Reservation is needed or you will be sat outside. No diet drink options other than water but you do have the option of room temp or iced water, go with the iced water as it comes in a bigger cup. No kids menu but they will gladly take a stroll from their elevated menu choices and dumb down the kids food by offering eggs on the side. The banana toast was drier than expected and loaded with peanut butter, the fresh fruit almost saved the dish. Skip the pesto avocado toast, pesto was oily with no flavor, dish was missing salt and vinegar. Over medium egg was overcooked . The red chilaquiles were heavily tomato one note, even though they added extra Serrano habanero sauce for me. 3 tostadas with beans and 1 egg is what you re getting with these chilaquiles, skip. The croissant was the only thing enjoyed during this visit, they did make it into an egg croissant since they added the scrambled eggs inside. Pricing is on the higher end but not the food quality. Several waiters with no one inside the restaurant but 4 tables outside created a shortage somehow that the waiter table visits were minimal. A little of everything from disappointment service to poor food flavoring and high cost will ensure I don t come back to this place. Kid-friendliness: No kids menu

If you find yourself wandering the historic downtown streets of McAllen, TX, do yourself a favor and swing by Bonhomia. This small eatery packs a big punch with its awesome menu! I recently indulged in their breakfast sandwich featuring ham, oraline bacon, and a perfectly cooked medium easy egg on sourdough it was downright amazing! And lets not forget those crispy fried potatoes that hit the spot just right. To wash it all down, I opted for an americano, and let me tell you, it tasted like it came straight from the freshest, highest quality beans. The overall experience was top-notch, from the delicious food to the awesome service. Needless to say, well definitely be back for more Bonhomia goodness!

I m guessing the place is new, because all the staff seemed panicked and confused. We ordered 2 items. Then they came back to our table more than 5 mins later and said they didn t have them. Ordered new food. (More on the food later) then our bill had the charges for the food they didn t have in stock. They corrected the bill before we paid. Egg white omelet was just carrots and tomatoes wrapped in a paper thin layer of eggs. My wife s main was mostly sauces and beans I think. We ordered two deserts, triple chocolate was okay but the maple flavored desert was very sweet and had the smell of maple before you got close to it. I m assuming that means it artificial maple flavoring but not 100% on that. Nice decor however and the staff is trying. Issues feel like management not staff issues

Food was ok. Duck and potato was interesting I personally didn t like it but I got it for the experience. The matcha white chocolate was really interesting it was a very sweet cream? The lavender lemonade was very sweet but it didn t taste like lavender at all just tastes like lemonade plus I kept getting those lavender buds on my mouth and it was uncomfortable. I didn t like the service I had to wave down people and they d just tap another servers shoulder and tell them to come up to our table. At one point the guys who attended us since we first sat down just clocked out and left so I didn t even know who to flag down anymore. And the group of servers just sent another guy to our table. It was really annoying and the service was so bad because of it. Overall I wouldn t dine in. I would definitely pick up a dessert but thats it.

Nice place but your really paying for the looks not the taste of the food. Payed well over $30 for low tier food. I ordered the chilaquiles and an omelette and it was not good. Had no flavor and parts of it were cold. Plus order was made wrong the first time. Coffee was unavailable, no condiments available for sides. Just really unhappy and a waste of money. Dietary restrictions: Offers no pork alternatives. Im allergic to pork and they still added it to my dish after asking them not to

Every time I see chilaquiles on the menu I am drawn to them. There were 3 variants on the menu and I chose the black chilaquiles. They were ridiculous. When I first got my plate I thought it was going to be too rich or too dark tasting or even mercury squid ink tasting but I was wrong. The sauce was black but the flavor was bright slightly spicy even though I asked for the extra spicy but it tasted vibrant and acidic and just down right tasty. They were just so damn good and I cant explain it just go try them for yourself. @bonhomiaonmain @chefraquelrivera major props. These are memorable. Very modern cutesy restaurant but the food and pastries definitely live up to the hype and the beautiful asthedics of this restaurant.

Im not gonna blame anyone in particular and this happened a couple (a lot) of months ago, but last time I ate here (and ever will) i ended up with a 104 fever for 2 days straight with digestive issues and symptoms of food poisoning. cold sweats , chills, flu like weakness and fatigue, body aches , awful restroom experiences (...) The third day was barely better but it gradually subsided and I vowed to never step foot in this place from then on. Again, not blaming anyone in particular, maybe it was an allergy. But im traumatized by this place now and will unfortunately never go back. It looked cute though.

Definitely recommend their peach mint guava tea and desserts. The tea had a balance of all flavors and sweetness. Their desserts are soooo much more fancy than the valley is used to, which is a refreshing change. The blueberry lychee tart had a soft lychee flavor and was pleasantly sweet. The raspberrys tartness in the white mascarpone maple dessert was really the star. A bit too tangy for my taste but still delightfully creamy. The four stars is because its expensive and the ventilation is so poor the place felt hot and stuffy.

I gave it 2 stars only because our server was not friendly at all. I was a bit offended when I was paying because while I was putting in the tip amount, she moved closer to me and lowered her gaze to look closely at how much I was putting. I felt like she was doing it on purpose to let me know that shes looking at how much Im tipping. That actually made me want to tip less than what I initially wanted to give. Anyway, the food was okay, not exceptional but the price is reasonable. The little cakes were very pretty but a bit pricey.

New to the area, visited due to the impressive online pictures and menu. We had the pesto avocado toast. The toast, however, was inedible. I am sure that pesto bread (as described by the server) is a clever idea, but I am also sure that its recipe notes do not include Dessicate to death valley-level dryness. They could probably re-purpose the bread as a remedy for flooding, or perhaps for plugging household water leaks (is a visit to Shark Tank in the chefs future?). I will, however, give 2 stars (rather than 1) due to my cappaccino being tasty. On the whole - nice idea, poor execution.

However the service alone will prevent me from coming here or recommending this place again. We were served soup without spoons, asked for app plates and received 2 despite there being 5 ppl, water refills were only upon request if you were able to flag someone down. Menus and plates were stacked in the center of the table. Now I know what you re thinking they re probably busy but this wasn t the case there was only two other small tables and 4 servers. When i tried to get the attention of another server she looked at me and continued walking.

Walking in I love the open kitchen concept and very modern feel for the valley, I ordered white chilaquiles, and white wine mojito. I dont understand the point of white wine mojito, its just wine with piece of ice which I assume is mint... but zero flavor, that was complete failure. White chilaquiles was pose to be hot but it was mild at best. Dessert was good though, I think its interesting place to go in the valley but definitely doesnt meet the expectations of everything it shows for.

I am visiting here from Oregon. My niece took my sisters and I here for lunch. I kept hearing about how good this place was and the Cilantro Pistachio was to die for. Well, all true! The food was amazing! The service was excellent! I had the ham n cheese and a cup of pistachio soup. Omg! So, so good. My beverage was a peach guava tea. I could have drank a pitcher full. So good. My sister had an Americano Latte she could not stop talking about how good her coffee was. I ll add a picture of her. We were to full to have dessert but took several pastries home for later. Congratulations to the chef and her kitchen manager and the rest of the staff. EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT!!!!

Everything in terms of food is very tasty, they require paying attention to customer service since they take a long time to serve a coffee. Even so, I recommend the place.

The food was absolutely delicious, unfortunately the service was the ABSOLUTE WORST! Paloma, our waitress was unprofessional and lacked common courtesy. It took almost 30 min to get our drinks, and did not come to check up on us. This was not the issue, we asked to get our bill and waited another 10 min as we made eye contact to get her attention. We had to ask her manager to get us the check after 15 min of waiting. Paloma then goes off and flick us off as her manager was speaking to her addressing her lack of service to our table of only 4, granted this was before we even spoke to the manager. As a customer seeing this is NOT OK!!! It s a shame that the experience trumped the delicious food. Our friends that invited us to Bonhomia have been here and said they had previous bad experiences with Paloma, this issue needs to be addressed. If your looking to celebrate or have a good experience, take your money elsewhere The valley has some amazing restaurants, don t waist your time or money at this establishment!

Called made reservations 3 weeks ahead for a party of 8 , once our party was there at this place . According to staff no once called for reservations ! We had to wait 40 min to be seated , another 20 min for our drinks to be serve ! Place is under staff for a Sunday brunch ! Food was great , except the chilaquiles the tortillas was hard as a shell couldn t even cut it through with knife . Wish the customer service was more attentive bc kitchen was good environment vibe was great is just the service . Definitely will not be bringing my friends & family to celebrate a birthday brunch here again .

Hosted my sisters bridal shower there on a Saturday and the whole restaurant was closed for our private event. The Chef/Owner was always very attentive and the service was beyond amazing. Food was delicious and fresh. Totally recommend to anyone looking intimate brunch place.

We stumbled upon this place when we were looking for brunch on a weekend. It was beautifully decorated the vibe was so different, it felt like we werent in the valley. The menu was impressive and their coffee bar was amazing. All the bread and pastries are made in house, and so is their yogurt. Definitely coming back here to try more tasty things.

My parents were intown to visit and this restaurant was a place that my mom wanted to eat at for awhile. Sadly we were all disappointed and Ill give you 3 reasons to make it short, First off we noticed many regulars being attended to first even though me and family got there before them. Second the food was soooo bland and lacked flavor. Last Im a huge pastry/dessert cosumer and well there dessert menu wasnt for me. I was hoping for more out of the place but if your willing to spend money on brunch then my advice is to better play it safe at either Salome (which is right down the street) or at yasuke ramen bar.

Love Bonhomía! Love the location, service, and food. Everything is always good and very fresh. Chef Raquel comes out and personally thanks you for being there. That in itself speaks a lot. She s very passionate about her restaurant and you can tell in everything from her staff, her building, and her displays. It s a true gem in the RGV and is very unique.

From the moment you get inside you can feel the warm welcome from the staff, the space is beautifully decorated so you can enjoy either your craving for a coffee with pastries, or a brunch with you family or friends. On the options you can find different prices and flavors, wich can have even vegan options. The open kitchen gives you a glance to see how the magic works Truly a delightful place

Had not really been to a brunch only restaurant before so I was not sure what to expect. I had heard the desserts were fantastic and so I was looking forward to trying a few of those. I ended up ordering the prosciutto and fig croissant and WOW. I would never have imagined pairing those two together but for me it was a great blend of salty and sweet. The croissant was soft and buttery too. It was served with a side of small baby potatoes drizzled with a sauce on top. I loved it. I almost did not have enough room for dessert but luckily I did not have to worry about it because the desserts were perfect portion sizes with a great variety to choose from. Next time I will go with enough time to enjoy dessert and sample their coffee.

Food good, service bad.!! The waiters were all over the place, i do not foresee us ever going back.

This place is amazing, which is why it hurts to say this. But the young lady attending needs to pay attention to what she is doing. We went for coffee and pastries and there was a pistachio mousse(the last one) and we ordered it. The young lady took it to another table thinking that we were together. Mind you, we are sitting in completely different tables. I was so upset!!! Even tho she did apologize, our tastebuds were looking forward to that particular dessert. So disappointed.
