I wanted to love this museum because it s such an untold part of history but I cannot give this place a 4 star or higher because it was very unorganized and lacked a good start and end point. I loved learning about local heroes and the rich history that the US has tried to hide but I believe for the entry fee to be worth it, a guided tour would work better.

In an old armory building which was pretty cool to start with. Visited this museum instead of others in Houston to learn more about an area we had not explored in the past. Start off with the video to give you some context but spend some time in this room looking at the display cases as we found some of the best things here. Although some of the exhibits are undergoing renovation, it was definitely worth spending two hours there. Not sure small children would get much out of it.

We enjoyed this museum experience so much, that I plan to revisit it so I can join a tour, because there is so much history and the tour guides have excellent historical stories that are very interesting and provide context to the numerous items that are housed. Wonderful experience. **I inadvertently left my iPhone during my visit and when I called, the director said someone had turned it in and he kept it safe until I picked it up.** Thank you to all at this important museum!

I was in Houston with my hubby for his business trip. I dont know anyone in Houston, but I made new friends at the Y. We made plans to visit this museum, but they bailed on me (it is okay...this was all last minute). Anyway... I went alone and had a FABUOUS time. The museum is inexpensive, yet rich with culture and historical information. One of my favorites was a letter from an ex-slave to his former master. It was HYSTERICALLY FUNNY!!! I will definitely visit again! I purchased everyone back home a gift, except for myself! LOL! I will go again, and the next time, Im bringing my brother-in-law, who is a Buffalo soldier!!

I enjoyed the visit and was reminded of the service of African Americans to the United States Armed Forces. I was surprised that the museum was not better funded. However, the pride was palatable and many of the exhibits were surprising. I also liked the old armory building. The museum deserves more visitors and better funding in the future. (Just compare this museum with the Asian Culture Center just a few blocks away).

I hope I get the chance to visit again in the future.

To be truthful the web site undersold what we experienced. This started as a private collection and expanded from there. It is very well curated and portrays from the Buffalo Soldiers of the Indian wars to the present. In my opinion it is a must see in Houston. I am so pleased that she suggested it.

This is a must stop location. It had a lot of history of our African American ancestors who joined the armed services. It spoke bout many layers of things they faced and how they fought to not just be equal but stand for what they believed. It had a lot of artifacts that took time to collect because Alot of non color people own our ancestors things. The price is low parking is free. It takes about 40 min to look and explore. Other areas was under work so we didn t get to see everything but I can say my children learned alot. This is a must for all people to visit

PROS: Interesting, informative displays and exhibits. Explains where term Buffalo Soldiers originated. Museum not just about Buffalo Soldiers per se; focuses on black fighters (male and female) in all wars that US fought where blacks were part of fighting force. Medal of Honor recipient displays well done; makes you realize amazing attitudes/fighting spirit of those who were otherwise unfairly oppressed and repressed in the USA. Free on-site parking. CONS: Some displays under construction during visit (2023.04.12). Would have liked to see more about black soldiers in WWII that drove Red Ball Express supply trucks (one truck is actually parked out front). BOTTOMLINE: Recommended. Good value for $$.

Looking for an immersive and engaging way to learn about the history of African American soldiers in the United States military? Look no further than the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum! This fascinating museum is dedicated to preserving and sharing the stories of the brave men and women who fought and served in the United States Army, particularly the Buffalo Soldiers - a group of African American soldiers who served during a time of racial segregation and discrimination. Through interactive exhibits, historical artifacts, and engaging displays, visitors can gain a deep understanding of the struggles and triumphs of these remarkable soldiers. But the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum is much more than just a collection of artifacts and displays. Its a living tribute to the legacy of these soldiers, and a powerful reminder of their courage, dedication, and sacrifice. Whether youre a history buff, a veteran, or simply someone who appreciates the stories of unsung heroes, the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum is a must-visit destination that will leave you inspired and moved.

My visit to the Buffalo Soldier Museum was both entertaining and disappointing. The items and the history was very good. The service from the customer service rep was awful. The place was a little beat up but it was understandable because they are renovating and still trying to hire tour guides, which is needed. They had some good artifacts for the different war areas which African Americans were a major art of in this country. The gift shop had some excellent memorabilia which we bought t-shirts. If you are looking for history, I do recommend this museum.

There were several displays that tied in nicely to what we were looking for and a whole bunch more to share with the kids.
