Chicken and waffles are very good. Gumbo was good. Atmosphere - place was a little worn and not kept up. Outside could use some paint, some repairs, and resurface the parking lot. Kinda reminds me of a Waffle House look but a broader menu.

You wont believe the hidden gem we stumbled upon! This place is a local favorite for a reason. We visited on a Sunday afternoon and were blown away by the quick, fresh food and excellent service. Its a no-frills diner that really delivers on delicious, home-cooked meals. The staff were fantastic, especially our honest and helpful waitress. I couldnt get enough of the Fried Platter (Shrimp, Clams, and Catfish) - the batter was incredibly light and crispy, and the fries were absolutely addictive. My wifes Gumbo Platter was a hit too, with Crawfish Étouffée, Shrimp Gumbo, and Cajun Green beans. We even grabbed some freshly made Beignets to go, and they were divine. Were already planning to come back for breakfast - and guess what? They serve breakfast all day! Trust me, you need to prioritize a visit to this diner. You wont regret it!

This place was over crowded & small,Dark, dank parking was very limited. My Husband had the fish platter. He complained that the fries and peice of fish was soggy, bland and soaked in grease. I had the stuffed jalapeño poppers. They were a bit over cooked & stuffed with a super salty seafood stuffing. I also had pistolettes,,,which are supposed to be stuffed with seafood but instead I got 2 hunks of bread and the stuffing (crawfish etoufee) in a bowl on the side. 40 bucks down the drain so disappointed. Will never eat here again

It was good can t really complain about the food, but the staff very rude one lady named Lisa or an older Caucasian lady with gray hair. very rude, very unprofessional, even using profanity not really sure why she had an attitude and where her attitude came from didn t but leave her tip as well because of this attitude then as I walk out the door, she says I love these non-tipping ass people, but yes, a tip is by choice and a tip is only made if you re doing a good service. Trust me, I do not have a problem tipping at all. Definitely could afford anything I want in that restaurant. But with you re very rude and unprofessional attitude probably wouldn t eat at this restaurant again because of the staff normally you go to restaurants to try the food and hopefully they have good staff but having unfriendly staff like that would make you not want to come back to the restaurant like that not very welcoming. Especially being a business owner myself.

Great little gem. Nice variety of diner food. The pancakes were amazing, they do take a long time to cook them, but worth the wait. I had eggs over medium (cooked perfectly) the sausage links were amazing, the hash browns were a little saturated in grease, but I ate them. There were a few flies, but they were cleaning constantly. Not too much conversation with the staff, but great food. We will be back.

I ve eaten at thousands of places in the south and these grits didn t even come close to what you expect them to taste like. So, if you get breakfast, stay away from them!

It had been almost 8 years since the last time I was in Galveston. Since my last visit to The Gumbo Diner, I just knew that I needed to come back today during our trip. Parking was a bit tight for this small diner but the food and experience made everything worth it. I love that they serve a full menu all day. We arrived around 9am but I had the Costal Cuisine on my mind. It was just as good as it looked. We also ordered gumbo and breakfast, all did not disappoint. Excited to come back next time! Parking: Parking was a bit limited but we parked on the side of the closed down hotel. Kid-friendliness: Brought my two kids (2 and under). Staff was friendly and accommodating. Plenty of options that kids would love.

What a surprise this place was. The food was outstanding. We ordered the seafood platter, fish platter and Bourbon Street platter. All were good. The fish, oysters and shrimp were perfectly cooked and crunchy. Everything else had an abundant amount of flavor. The only critique was the gumbo being a little too salty. However, I pulled a bay leaf out so you know it was homemade. I recommend this place and wouldn t mind going back.

The ranch dressing was very good, as was the coleslaw. The blackebed catfish was so tender and moist! The food was hot, fresh, and was delivered quickly. The menu is diverse and includes jambalaya, etoufee, and gumbo. The atmosphere is just a typical diner with a variety of seating: bar, booth, table. Parking: There is a small amount of parking in front of the restaurant, but if you go to the left, there is more open space.

Food, service & atmosphere!! Enjoyed everything that I had. Doubled back on 7/6/24 for breakfast the following morning, I didnt like it!! 1 star!! Food or service!! I couldnt believe that this was the same place I enjoyed & loved the previous night. Pancakes came 1st. Had to ask for silverware, therefore they got cold! Food came, bacon to me wasnt edible, too hard sent back, got 2nd bacon it wasnt cooked throughly!! I asked for scrambled eggs, got fried instead. At that point, I was completely done!! My waitress knew from my expression. Sweet tea was good though. Please note that this is my opinion. Would I go again? YES, dinner only.

The Gumbo Diner in Galveston is an absolute treasure, seamlessly blending comfort food with a touch of Southern charm. I found this diner to be a standout for both breakfast and dinner, making it a versatile gem worth visiting at any time of the day. For breakfast, the Gumbo Diner truly shines. I started my morning with their Chicken and Waffles, a dish that epitomizes comfort and indulgence. The chicken was crispy and perfectly seasoned, while the waffles were light, fluffy, and had just the right amount of sweetness. This harmonious combination was nothing short of spectacular. Their omelets are another breakfast highlight fluffy, generously filled with fresh ingredients, and bursting with flavor. The variety and quality of their breakfast menu set the perfect tone for the day. When it comes to dinner, the Gumbo Diner continues to impress. I began my evening meal with the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp, and it was a revelation. The shrimp were plump and juicy, encased in crispy, smoky bacon, and served with a delectable dipping sauce that elevated the dish to gourmet levels. This appetizer alone was worth the visit. For the main course, I opted for one of their legendary burgers, and I was not disappointed. The burger was perfectly cooked, juicy, and packed with flavor, complemented by fresh toppings and a soft, toasted bun. Each bite was a testament to the diner s commitment to quality and flavor. The service at the Gumbo Diner is impeccable, with friendly and attentive staff who make you feel right at home. They are knowledgeable about the menu and quick to offer recommendations, ensuring that your dining experience is nothing short of perfect. 1st time in Galveston, we ended up at Gumbo diner. Once we reviewed the menu, we werent sure it was what we wanted. Once everyone decided we were staying, the waitress came over. She had an attitude. She continued with the same ugly attitude all throughout our visit. I had ordered Stuffed jalapeno appetizer. These jalapeños are stuffed with seafood and cheese, so its all mushy on the inside. On my 2nd bite, I felt something hard, which was strang because I hadnt even reached the stem. I got it out of my mouth it was glass. Asked for the manager. She heard me, picked up the plate, and left. Never said anything. No, are you ok?, I am sorry, how can we fix this, nothing at all. Never came back to check on us. The waitress runs by is like ya ok? and runs off didnt even stop to allow us to respond. It was terrible to come visit and made to feel unwanted. Please please be sure to check your food. Gumbo diner definitely will never be back. You have officially made my boycott list.

This place I quite small, but the food makes up for it.... The chicken and sausage gumbo was kinda bland, but the Coastal cuisine with blackend catfish was freaking delicious.... My wife ordered the hangover burger and they forgot the onion rings on top, but when we brought it up, they were quick to bring us the onion rings.... The burger was really good.... Nothing over cooked and soggy.... My son said his fried chicken sandwich was low-key good, so ima just assume that he enjoyed it.... Our younger kids ordered fried fish and pancakes off the kids menu.... They both said their food was good.... The Breakfast served all day really does come in handy.... The fired pickles were good, and the beignets were really good, i just wish they came with some chocolate syrup or something to dip them in... Overall this place has great food, a small location with a beautiful view of the ocean, and also quite expensive, but if you dont mind forking over money for good food, that shouldnt be a problem to you, after all it wasnt a problem for us lol Parking: Plenty of parking

What a great place! We came based on the reviews, looking for the crawfish po-boys. After studying the menu in detail, we had the crawfish po-boys. Sometimes the best plan is to stick with the plan. These things were huge, and delicious. One was fried crawfish, and the other was half fried crawfish and half grilled crawfish. The fried was done just right, and the grilled also had a lot of good flavor. And then the beignets. Im glad we split an order of 3 because otherwise I might have hurt myself trying to finish them. My better half might have been wiser than me because she boxed up half of her po-boys to take with us. But I may eat it before she has a chance, so maybe Im the crafty one? Anyway, nice casual place and the server was outstanding. Well be back next time were in town!

I came to this restaurant knowing already that the beignets were good. Buttttt.. overpriced for the amount of food. Only thing that s worth the bang for your buck are the dozen beignets for $13 I ordered the hangover burger, just the burger alone no fries was $14 dollars. It was small and not at all like the photos shown on the menu. It was good in flavor but not enough food and not at all like the BIG BURGER on the menu representing it. Two raw skinny onion rings, not cooked all the way. The meat, bacon and egg were cooked properly. But not worth the price for just the burger. I left hungry. My boyfriend got the chicken and waffles. He said a few years ago that the dish had a lot of chicken tenders and had a better waffle. That the dish use to be a filling meal worth it for the price. Now not soo much in his opinion. They gave him 3 small chicken tenders with no flavor when it came to the waffle, It was okay but nothing special. He also left wanting more to eat. Servers should not be picking at the food and eating it before serving it. We will not be returning for anything but the beignets.

We ate lunch here on Memorial Day weekend. Food was very good. We had gumbo and seafood platters. We don t even eat fries BUT these fries were soo good!!! Eveything as fried perfectly. We went back today for lunch. Once again the place stay full and busy. Once again the food was excellent! Daniel was our server both times. He is attentive. We also met Calvin. We told him not to change anything about the food. It will keep us driving back from Houston just to eat.

First time eat at this diner. Place is pretty full. We fortunate got a table for party of 5. Craving for gumbo, I ordered one, and would say do not put high expectation Iike the one you can get from Louisiana. Service was great. Got helped to put the left over into the containers. Another plus is the view - the ocean Parking: There is free parking lot once you enter the diner. The front is seawall boulevard, so street parking I think is not allowed

Food & staff were great! We sat ourselves on a Tuesday evening around 6:45p & were waited on immediately. I started with red wine & husband had Shiner. For an appetizer we chose fried okra. Neither of us cared for dip but the okra was good! For dinner I had crawfish etouffee & DH had seafood platter. Both dishes were excellent & prepared perfectly. DH would have preferred larger serving of coleslaw.

We ate here right before we headed home from vacation. I have an allergy to oysters, so I had to confirm that my food would be prepared away from Oysters. My server assured me that the blackened catfish would be cooked separately. The blackened catfish was good but the French fries were even better - they were awesome!! And i had a side salad - it was huge, with tomatoes and cucumber. My husband had pancakes, sausage and hash browns. He enjoyed all of it. My daughters had Southwest omelets with hashbrowns. My grandson ate from his moms plate - he really liked the fresh fruit. Great place, great atmosphere! Dietary restrictions: I have an oyster allergy. My good was cooked separately from the seafood that is fried with Oysters. Im also allergic to gluten and eggs. There were plenty of choices that were allergy free.

Excellent. Stopped by for lunch and ordered the Shrimp and Grits. What can I say but they were the best I have ever eaten. I was taking small spoonfuls to make it last longer. There were 6 grilled and just the right spice Shrimp and they were delicious but they are just an accessory to the cheese grits. Oh boy was it good. It was a good size bowl with shredded cheese and green onion tops sliced with what looked like some gumbo gravy splashed on top. I gave my wife a taste but that was all. I selfishly kept the rest for myself and will in the future. Great service. Our server, Daniel, was very friendly, attentive, and made excellent recommendations. This was our first visit but not our last. Prices are reasonable but this is a small place and very popular so dont be surprised if there is a wait list before seating. It is worth the wait.

When the food arrives you are wafted to your bispoke meal of delicious morsels. The manager Bri walks by all tables to check on you and make sure all is well. Brandon the server is very nice and and enjoyable to talk to. The meal was very appetizing and affordable. I totally enjoyed my meal at the Gumbo diner. This is a must come and dine

The service and atmosphere were top-notch, but my seafood gumbo experience fell short. Despite ordering it, all I could really enjoy were the shrimp. Surprisingly, the gumbo included tomatoes, which I dont typically prefer in my dish. Beyond that, the base had a powdery texture that made it hard to stomach. Lesson learned: I shouldve made my own gumbo!

Very overpriced! The cheapest item was 1 pancake for $3.99. the next cheapest item was a waffle for $9.99. everything else was drastically higher! They had more people behind the kitchen counter than customers. Now I know why. Very slow servic! It cost me $20 for an ala carte for two eggs, burnt toast, and hash browns that were not cooked the first time.
