This place is dirty, uninviting and the food came out to us looking like this. I dont usually write bad reviews but this is bad. Floor dirty as hell, footprints and dirt caked on, limited seating, the tables were stained and dirty with bits of food all over.

The food is amazing. Whenever I m in town I stop here. Just got off a flight from NYC and stopped by. The food here is better than in NYC! Got the fajita chkn tacos, veggie quesadilla and the southwest salad and the tres leches cake. Everything was and is fantastic.

I came to visit my son and he was looking for vegan places and find pepitas, the place is a tiny restaurant is it better if you order for to go. One of the better tacos I ve ever eat, very tasty. I tried birria tacos and al pastor, a delicious horchata and a tres leches cake so yummy. Great customer service. Highly recommended. One of my favorite vegan restaurants. Love the food and the service. Prices are good. Food is delicious Al pastor tacos, nachos, all the Desserts are good. Dislikes: Serving sizes depends on who prepares the plate. I order the same thing most times and everytime the sizes vary, the containers vary and so does the ingredients. Sometimes it comes with everything listed on the menu, sometimes it doesnt. I was upset to purchase a size a rice and receive an 8oz size of rice for $2. Normally i get a small/medium size but an 8oz not even full was a rip. I expect to get everything listed if I purchase it. Guacamole is a bit pricey for the size, so I get mine from Chipotle. $2.80 for a full 8oz compared to $7-8 for an 8oz. Overall, I like the food, just wish that they would maintain proper sizes and make sure all the ingredients comes on the food as stated on the menu.

Our youngest daughter is vegan and we never eat at places specifically for her because we have 3 other children. Those 3 were out at games so we thought we would spoil our 13 yr old and let me tell you the food was amazing. It s primarily delivery but they do have tables to sit at which we did. That was the only issue we had with there. The burritos are larger than the largest chipotle you can get and stuffed full of flavor. This will now be a go to for us atleast once a month! First time visit, atmosphere under construction, however looking forward to see the finished restaurant. The service was super awesome. I just walked in not realizing orders are being taken online only until constructions finished. I ordered a Taco Salad (vegan chicken, guacamole, zucchini, onions, mushrooms) I believe this was the name. Anywho, I waited 15min and the order was brought out piping hot packed away in a carryout bag with everything needed to immediately dive in The kind lady even offered that I stay to eat if I wanted. I decided to beat traffic and head home. On ride home, I only smelled the fresh aroma of tortillas I didnt smell garlic, cumin or any other really good and tasty seasoning. When I arrived home, I quickly dumped everything onto the salad which was inside this really cool takeout container. At first sight, everything was colorful and the chicken shredds were just ok, and then after the first bite, all I could taste was Salt and then I couldnt finish the meal. $18 down the drain :( I was really tired and didnt want to cook anything which is why i took this chance and stopped into this location. Dont misunderstand me, salt is ok when used properly, but when its not, it can ruin a very good meal. I believe my order would have been ok had it not been for the heavy use of salt. Maybe Ill visit again later this fall when Im in the area and hopefully I can try something else on the menu because everything looked great and Im sure very tasty, just not today. :( Vegetarian options: I only tried one dish

Chips are 100% ALWAYS stale, tomato-based items are often spoiled (and likely not even safe to eat for some people). PLEASE use plastic bags for the chips, or have fresh chips to offer. Whomever thought chips stored in a paper bag in Texas humidity was a good idea, failed.

Loved our meals. Love that things on the menu are marked as gluten sensitive. Loved the decor. Heard one lady rave about how good the flour tortillas were so if you can eat gluten, that s to note. Vegetarian options: Vegan restaurant with clearly marked meat substitutions, great if you re allergic to a specific one such as my beyond meat allergy. Dietary restrictions: Items marked as Gluten Sensitive. Cannot vet for celiac.

I truly love this place - the food has always been incredible. we are only able to go maybe once a year because its pretty far away - the first time we went everything was 5 stars hands down. the second time was almost the same experience except a little dirtier and the employees seemed to not care as much. the third time besides the food being great like it always is the floors were so sticky we couldnt wait to leave (I see reviews mentioning this to be an issue over 2 weeks ago?) the place is looking run down (the bathrooms especially are looking ROUGH) and its especially evident only being able to go every so often. the employees didnt seem to wanna be there this time either but I understand that. I know everything is hard in this economy right now but I would hate to see this place go like so many others these days especially our vegan spots.

Used to love this place but the food is extremely inconsistent. They are always changing recipes and vegan meat vendors. The food quality has gone down significantly and it feels like they are just making the food greasier in place of good flavor. Would give 3 stars but they go up and down every few months. I thoroughly enjoyed my tacos, and I highly recommend getting a sampler platter so you can try all of them. The height of dinner, however, was the vegan tres leche cake. I havent had that in a long time and to find it vegan?!? It was so delicious, but its quite a serving. I shared mine and we gobbled it up quickly.

I paid $6 for churros and received an unacceptable product. I was promised three long churros sticks, but that is not what I got they definitely could ve been cooked for 2 minutes longer. Additionally, the fries are severely undercooked and look soggy. This is completely unacceptable. I went in 15 minutes before closing today last customer, and the quality of what I received is infuriating. I wasted $23.54 undercooked food.

Came here with my two daughters this past weekend. We werent greeted very warmly upon arrival and that carried through the whole trip. No rudeness, but no friendliness either. There was a strong sewer smell inside so we opted to sit outside. The floor is also very sticky like its unfinished. The food was pretty good! I got the vegan birria quesadillas though and they have a sauce drizzled on them that makes them super messy to eat. I should have gotten the tacos instead. Was driving through Denton and Googled Vegan - and found Pepitas! I called and placed my order for Birria Tacos . I had a few omissions to my order and they got it perfect ! It was perfect ! The Jackfruit wasnt musy it was cooked just perfectly! The rice and beans was good as well- made too meals for me. I love coming here because the food is really good. One thing that ruins the dining experience is they have 2 different stereos playing. In the dining area they play Latin music, but in the kitchen they blast whatever music the staff wants to listen to. It makes it feel chaotic and not pleasant hearing two different songs the whole time we re eating. Also service seems a bit slow. I have to ask for them to bring our desserts out even though it s clear we ve finished the entrees. Food is excellent but the dining experience could definitely improve.

We came by on a Sunday morning while in town visiting friends. We got recommended the place by two different friends to go here since Im vegan! The food was really good and tasty, very hot and made fresh! I really enjoyed the chicken pieces added as the protein on my dishes. I believe they are deep fried and battered tofu? Very inconsistent. Portion sizes are all over the place. Sometimes they have guacamole and sometimes they dont. They dont bother peeling stickers off of limes before they throw them on your plate. Just feels like they dont really care. The only good thing is the student discount at this point IMO. I don t really like eating here because the floors are always dirty and sticky. The tables, cups, and chairs too. They also either always forget either the queso or guac, or both, or give me two sides of beans instead of one rice and one beans. It s not a huge deal but happens every time. The churros are also almost always undercooked. I ll still eat here, just can t eat inside because I get grossed out. Good vegan option for when you get bored with everything else.

The staff was wonderful and the place is pretty relaxed/cozy which is awesome. The only reason I gave it a 4 for food was the tacos I had (birria and barbacoa) felt like they were missing something. My best guess is just that my personal taste pallette is more on the salty side so the tacos were probably under salted for me but otherwise they tasted great . I was generally surprised that it tasted as good as it did since Ive had mixed experiences with vegan food before.

If I could give a one star I definitely would. The pollo loco sandwich was so nasty I didn t even finish eating and The chickn strips were not good either they were so tough to eat and no flavor. Not only that but they did not give us what we paid for. We paid extra for a bread and we paid full price and didn t give us the 5 strips as stated on the menu. I can t go back cause I live 45 minutes from them but save yourself a trip because that food was a hell no. I am Hispanic and this food was not it. I was surprised at how delicious the vegan brisket birria tacos were. I couldnt tell the difference between the toothsome marinated jackfruit and the traditional brisket in the typical dish. Savory rice and expertly seasoned black beans rounded out the meal. My wife had the Hamburgesa Mexicana and had to scrape some of the jalapenos and onions from the burger. That said, the vegan patty was delicious and seasoned. My next visit Ill get the vegan chicken sandwich. The atmosphere wasnt awful, it was just a little too warm. But it was probably 104 outside. The place was crowded, so its clearly a local favourite. Vegetarian options: This is a vegan spot.

Tried this restaurant a few times, and I cant say Id come back. The staff and service were great, but that was about it. Everything I ordered each time was pretty underseasoned. Except the elotes, which were extremely spicy. When I was waiting on my pick-up order, I noticed the dining room was very dirty and saw small roaches crawling around. I love the vegan food movement, but we need to have higher standards than this!

Not vegan, just a poor unt student. They have a really good happy hour from 2-5pm where you can get 2 tacos and a drink for $5 which is great for a student like me on a budget with not much money. The only think I don t like here is the Al pastor everything else is great! The guacamole veggie tacos are amazing. They re only available during happy hour but I ve gone in at night before and they re been nice enough to make them for me which I really appreciate. Def give it a try!

I came here to celebrate a friends birthday and the staff here at Pepitas in denton exceeded my expectations. They were so friendly and welcoming. We ended up getting a few drinks and the food was so delicious that we didn t even finish them before closing. They didn t rush us out at all and Angel provided 10/10 service. I ve recently gone vegan thanks to a new dairy allergy, and Pepitas has been my savior. I m from the Midwest, so losing cheese changed my diet a lot- but the queso they serve here is amazing. The best cheese fries I ve ever had in my life, vegan or not, was the vegan picadillo cheese fries. Their brisket taco was AMAZING. Overall, people care here. You can taste that they absolutely do their best. If you re on the edge between walking to Pepitas or Chipotle, make the extra few blocks to come here. They give you more food at a good value.

Extensive menu that includes tacos, quesadillas, a hamburger, flautas, chimichangas, bowls, sopapillas, churros, tres leches cake, margaritas, and mimosas. Came for lunch on a Friday, and it was fairly busy without a wait. Sat outside and enjoyed our meal in the sunshine. Service is top notch: even though my brothers order was heard correctly but rung up wrong, the staff graciously corrected the order without having us worry about paying the price difference between combos 1 and 2. Tacos are street taco sized (i.e., small), so if youre hungry, you might want you get at least three. And the tres leches cake is huge! If you havent learned to share already, its never too late. The shredded cheese in the quesadilla wasnt melted at all, but that might have been because they rushed making it to correct the order. Id be willing to try it again to see if the cheese is more melted when they have time to prepare it.

This place is so nice!! Such a cozy atmosphere to sit and eat. I got the Brisket Birria Tacos and I loved how creative they were with the Jack fruit in this recipe. Depending on how you cook it jackfruit usually tastes like chicken but I was pleasantly surprised to bite into a hearty helping of tacos that tasted almost like beef. I loved the salsa as well so fresh and authentic you can tell it was made that day. Only critique I have is that the birria sauce is a lil bitter due to the cilantro I think but that can be solved with a little bit of lime squeezed into it! I enjoyed this place and definitely plan to come back. Come check out this little gem there s a reason they re rated one of Denton s best, you won t be disappointed!

Pepitas itself is great: they serve great vegan Mexican food at reasonable price. Theyre pretty quick too! The reason for 3 stars is because they use a predatory towing company called On the Road Again. Be cautious about parking in their parking lot. Parking: They have a parking lot, but you might be safer to park on the street due to the towing company that services their parking lot.

This was my first visit to Pepitas. I do not follow a vegan/vegetarian diet, but the people I was with do, so my feedback comes from that perspective. The food was really good! I ordered the chickn flautas (they are truly cravable). They were freshly fried and hot. Came with rice, amazing black beans, guac, and queso. As an omnivore, the only thing I wasnt a fan of was the queso. The people I ate with said they like it, so I would try it again. Maybe it was just that batch. All our portions were a really good size, and we all had leftovers. I will come again when Im in Denton.

Aside from one rude employee that only worked there briefly, the service overall here has been phenomenal. My family has gone multiple times per month since they ve opened, and even those that are non-veg really enjoy this place. Most of what I ve tried has been really well flavored (lack of flavor is my most frequent issue at most omni places that offer veg choices). I love their salsas and that they offer free refills on the aguas frescas. The only minor nit-picks I have are that they leave HUGE chunks of bell pepper and onion in their queso rather than blending it smooth, and that their fries and churros are always served soggy and undercooked. Other than that I ve been generally pleased with both the food and service, and I ll continue to go back.

Tasty but the portion size for tacos is a joke! $15 for 3 of the tiniest tacos with minimal content, some rice, and beans. For $40 could have had a much substantial meal some place else. Won t be back.
