The setting is great, it s super pretty inside and somewhat aesthetically pleasing. As soon as you go in the first thing that hits you is the smell of sewage unfortunately. I would recommend a sanitation chemical company for that. Eating with the constant smell was not great. Unfortunately I stood at the door for 10 minutes, there were other people already waiting and someone arrived after me, they left. There was no one at the front of the house, no hostess, manager only people I could see were behind the bar looking area and one waiter running like crazy. This was a Thursday at 11:00 am, for reference. When the waiter finally saw me he was very friendly sat me down and left me for another 10 minutes. Servers would pass me, what I assumed was the manager would pass me no greeting, no drink offers, and they seemed like avoiding contact. When the same waiter/hostess finally came they asked if I was ready for my drink order and I took the liberty of ordering my food in order not to waist their time. Even though they looked very hard working and you could tell they were hustling their hospitality was was a bit poor and forced. I am not sure if they need more staffing or if it was unusually busy but my experience was meh My waiter then brought me my coffee and a while later some chips. He was nice. I had no napkins or utensils the table was still dirty from the previous customers. I think this location has been open for at least a year. Observed some hygiene concerns also but nothing too crazy. I still ate. I tried to order water for 30 minutes. The staff was so busy and I didn t want to yell, it was a bit frustrating, although again they were either super busy or short staffed. After sometime I realized my water was aware of my missing utensils he was just goin 100 M/hr. And he brought them to me without me having to ask. With that being said the portions were great I went for brunch and the option of building you le chillaquiles was awesome, the presentation as well. My migas norteñas were delicious and alot was on my plate. I wanted to order their decadent looking chocolate cake but it was out in the open and too many flies had landed as well as the smell complementing the air deterred me. I also wasn t able to order their bread because their table touching was lacking. Overall it was ok I would not comeback but I recommend to try at least once and maybe I just went on a bad day.

Atmosphere looks good but it does have a cleaning supply smell, it doesn t take away from the food unless your odor sensitive. Food was great, quesadilla chilakiles are made with cheese tortas. The machaco egg was on point and delicious with no grease like some other places. The kids meal with two tacos was more than enough for a child. There were only 2 waiters. I ordered the tampiqueña and the only thing I could eat were the 3 squares of fajita that they served me on the plate. The chicken in the enchiladas tasted old and reheated. The strawberry lemonade tasted super concentrated and very sweet. I wouldnt go back.

Its been a long time since I visited grandmas house since they just opened and the truth is that I had a horrible experience, grandmas house located in the ware is the most filthy, it lasted 2 hours in the restaurant and in all that time none of the tables around me could be cleaned, the food had no taste, and the bathrooms were very filthy, floors full of food everywhere

Food, staff and atmosphere was excellent! I ordered the breakfast torta and was blown away. A torta is a normal food for me, but this just stood out because of how delicious it was, I believe the bread made the difference. I m ordering it again! The pastries in the window looked delicious and I ll make sure to get it next time. Coffee was good too! Third visit: I can t describe how welcomed I felt today. Big smiles and as I walked in, one waiter said torta remembering I had ordered that the other day. I love this place! Today I ordered posole. It was good, just wish it had a little more hominy in it. It was mostly beef. I also had croissant with cream and almonds.

I went twice here. Once for dinner and once for brunch. For some reason, weird things happened that made me dislike the service. For one, they take forever to ask what you want to drink, then to bring the drink, then to ask what you want to order. On top of that, on both occasions, the waiter left midway through my order to do something else and came back later to finish it. When I ordered water, I received a plastic throw away cup, but when I asked for a refill, they brought me a glass. I asked for a concha and never received it, but I couldnt tell the waiter since he never came back. By the time he did, I wanted to leave, so I ordered the check, and on both occasions, took forever to bring it and took forever to come back with my credit card. Dont expect good service. Sure, its pretty inside, but not worth the service.

First time here at this restaurant. Staff was very friendly and the atmosphere is very cozy. Food was good but enchiladas suizas needed more sauce. Just a heads up, staff seemed to only speak to customers in Spanish and if you ask for a glass of water with your meal, you will be served a $3.75 bottle of water. Had I known that they didn t serve regular water I would have order a canned soda for $.75 less.

Being from out of town you always look for a place that serves great good. I had seen this place the last time I was in McAllen and I decided to try it next time I was in town and I honestly am glad I did because the food was pretty amazing. Loved what I got to eat and the rest of my family did as well. I was not dissapointed one bit and I highly recommend it . Will definitely be coming back next time Im in town. Wish san antonio had something similar but Im glad that its only in McAllen if not it wouldnt be no fun. Ill have to try the breakfast next time. Service was great and the girl was nice and sweet. Stumbled upon this place since it was right around the corner from the Embassy hotel. Definitely a instagram worthy place. Food was good, but it is on the higher price point. I had the poblano pasta--sauce was good, chicken a little dry. Choriqueso was delicious as was the plain cheese quesadilla (homemade yellow corn tortilla). For dessert, we all split the concha abuela filled with crema, and drizzled with Nutella and caramel--so yummy. Im not sure if they offer tap water, but they have those Acqua Panna bottles on each table---it just irked me to have to pay for water lol.

The only reason I m not giving 5 stars is because my server was very forgetful, he took our order and only saw him once more and that s because he brought the bill out, if it wasn t for the outstanding team work this place has my experience would have been terrible but the other team members actually came by and noticed we were missing condiments, salsas, refills. I don t remember my waiters name but he was an older skinny gentleman, I would avoid him next time if I can but everyone else was wonderful

I dont know whos Abuela owns this house but if youre expecting a cozy, humble atmosphere youre in for a surprise. This is a lavish restaurant with, when I tried it, average-tasting, overpriced food. I came to try the food at this place because it is at the convention center and I assumed it would be great. Initially we were brought out some chips and salsa. The salsas for those chips were good so I was content with that. At first glance the entrees looked delicious however once we began to eat I realized that the food was lacking in flavor. Queso con salsa, chilaquiles, y frijoles negros are some of my favorite things to eat but for the price that I paid . It was definitely not up to par with many of the mom and pop shops around. The service here was good and our waitress was very kind. The atmosphere was not bad nor good. Also, it was very cold inside. I would probably not come back to this place.

Terrible, be careful. They take you through a walkway so you can see their breads and deceptively tell you that they have a 3 x10 promotion. And when the bill arrived they gave you the bread (each for 8 dollars) they apologized saying that those are not from the promotion. For my debut and farewell. Never to return. This is my go to place when I travel to the valley for work. I live in Austin, and we definitely need a restaurant like this. I am really picky when it comes to Mexican food, and this place tastes authentic. I have been coming here for the past 4 years & it never disappoints. I love their chips & salsa and the enchiladas suizas. The rice and their beans are amazing!! Their staff (avy) is extremely attentive. Can t wait to come back to eat here the next time I am in town.

Visited the Mexican this Sunday with my boyfriend and his elderly brother. The ambiance was great, food was good, and the waitress (Abigail) provided exceptional service. However, there were two disappointments: the kitchen couldnt make the tortilla crispy as requested for my boyfriends elderly brother, and they didnt have regular coffee, which I had asked for. The waitress seemed genuinely apologetic, and its clear these issues werent her fault. Despite the hiccups, the overall experience was positive due to the excellent service and atmosphere.

I came here with my family and let me tell you how delicious the food was. I ordered Abuelas breakfast and it was really good. Everything cooked and made perfectly. Another thing that was really delicious was the breakfast torta. The bread was perfect. The chorizo, avocado, sour cream, and refried beans mixes so well together. My favorite dish so far.
