I go there for the birding. Just walking through the park calms your day, seeing the water, waves and hearing it fall over the spillway. A great place for families. Theres a variety of places to stop and hike around all around the lake. Lots of parking and port a potties!

This little parking lot is tucked away and gives access to a trail by the spillway. Not as many benches as I would like, but the view along the dam is absolutely gorgeous, and the pumphouse is always picturesque. You can often see Great Egrets flying and hunting along the dam, and there is plenty of shady grass near the parking lot to spread a blanket and have a picnic. The parking lot fills up fast, though! Lots of runners and cyclists on the path. This area might be a little sketchy after sundown, so watch out!

The white rock lake is a great place to hike or bike. Some meetup groups meet to walk regularly on Sunday mornings. I would highly recommend joining one of these if you do not like to walk alone. The earlier one meets, the better - in order to avoid the heat.

Really not much to it. Not like you can go stick your feet in it and cool off during a hot summer day. Parking lot is to small for all the people that want to run or cycle around the lake. Trash all over the place. Nasty gas stations across the street. Yeah this place is nothing more than a landmark.

The majority of the lake park is in good shape. The bridges need new bridge board, however and sections of the road and trails need resurfacing. Early morning and week days are best to access and not see crowds.

A nice place to take a quick break while riding your bike around White Rock lake. Ive done a lot of laps around the lake and seen the spillway both absolutely rushing after a big rain, but also with a slight trickle and mostly dry during normal conditions. The birds seem to like it too. This was the first time I actually stopped and read the little plaque sharing the history that it was actually built in the early 1900s, you always forget how long everything has been here.

Really great place to go take pictures and walk and just relax. Beautiful views. I really recommend this for a family getaway. There are several points to enter. Parking can be free.. if you have time, you can visit the Dallas arboretum. Which is very beautiful and popular here among the locals. Great place to exercise, bike rides, or simply a nice long walk.

The Spillway parking lot is a great place to access the White Rock Trail hike & bike path, as well as the spillway plaza by Garland Rd. It is a bit far from the park areas of the lake, but, if you don t mind a walk, jog, or short bicycle ride, you can be at the popular lakeside areas in five or ten minutes. This lot fills up fast at popular times, so come early if you can. Conveniently, there is a 7-Eleven store and a QT store just across the street. No restrooms, though.

The spillway at White Rock Lake is a jewel within the jewel of White Rock Park. It is beautiful at every time of year. In the summer when just the thinnest veil of water is running over the damn and across the spillway glistening like diamonds in the Sun. After a summer thunderstorm when water is Raging across the dam and rushing down the spillway in dark waves. Even in the winter on those rare occasions when everything is icy frozen and glistening in a different way. Theres almost always a flock of some kind of birds resting or feeding there and in the duper pools you can see schools of catfish.
