I visited this location earlier today for a late lunch. Upon entering, we were immediately greeted and told we could sit anywhere. Waitress takes our order, confirms everything. Comes to the table and gives us our main courses. Im thinking, she will be back shortly, but shes too busy chatting it up with the guy at the bar, so I wave her down and told her that I never got the rest of my food. She apologies and goes to the kitchen for a bit, comes back out with no food and is now back at the bar chatting with dude. Long story short, never got my appetizer yet she billed it on my ticket. And I told her to take it off cuz I never got it. The JERK chicken was the only decent thing we got. Everything else from the Curry, to the sides, was just as trash as the service. Ill stick to the Carrollton location from now on.

My husband and I decided to check this place out today and I m glad we tried them. My husband chose the jerk chicken, the chicken JERKED it was moist with the flavor you look for in jerk food. The cabbage and spinach also has great flavor, a bit too salty but sustainable, the saffron rice was dry and over cooked, however, the rice & peas definitely taste like they re made with coconut milk delicious. I chose the oxtails and they were disappointing, especially since I ate more off of my husbands plate, they have GREAT flavor the gravy had the right consistency with the flavor but they aren t tender AT ALL too tough to have been served to anyone. Overall I would definitely return but will definitely stay away from the oxtails, they re too expensive for them to have been wasted. The customer service was good too me, Especially since there were only 2 ladies working the entire place on a Saturday. The key lime pie isn t worth the price, I could taste other food on it, plus the portion was like they didn t want me to have it, per the photo. The rum punch was good and strong, they re not stingy with the rum. But check them out for yourself

Very poor, very care-less customer service! I called in TWICE.. for brown stew chicken order for pick-up (didn t even ask me my name) - got there a little after 4 pm ( 35 mins later) and they tell me they don t see my order!!!! No acknowledgment after waiting 20 mins inside the store for pickup. I got fed up waiting and just left! This was so DISAPPOINTING! My 2nd time and LAST time bothering to support this restaurant! Do better or give up the space!!!

Food was good but someone at this store is a dishonest thief. Be careful when using credit cards/debit cards. I m sure this place relies on guests not checking their bank statements or having alerts on their phone. I had a to go order and they illegally changed the amount I paid days after visiting and labeled it as tip . Please keep your receipts if you are bold enough to use your card here. I m unsure how someone can be that comfortable stealing money from a customer without the customers consent. Hopefully this can get handled smoothly. Overall disappointing experience.

We just moved to Dallas from Florida. We were looking for an Island restaurant to support and try out. The aesthetic was nice and the service was great. The food was horrible. The oxtail wasn t good at all. The jerk chicken wigs, rice and peas were horrible as well. We were highly disappointed as we got the food to go and had to throw it away. Spent all that money just to throw the food away. Highly disappointed!!

I had a very frustrating experience with The Island Spot on Jefferson through Uber Eats. After placing my order, the restaurant called to inform me that they didn t have the item I ordered. I declined any substitutions and expected them to cancel the order as requested. However, they claimed they couldn t cancel the order, which I later discovered was untrue. The truth is, they simply didn t want to deal with the potential negative implications that Uber Eats could impose on them. When a restaurant cancels an order, it could lead to a lower rating on the platform, reduced visibility in search results, fewer customer recommendations, and potentially, more severe consequences if cancellations happen frequently. Instead of being upfront about this, they tried to push the responsibility onto me to cancel the order. When I refused, they went ahead and sent the delivery driver with something I didn t order. Fortunately, my incoming calls are recorded , and I sent the recording of this call to Uber Eats. This kind of dishonest and unprofessional behavior is completely unacceptable. I cant leave a review on Uber Eats since the order was ultimately canceled, but I wanted to share my experience here to warn others.

I stopped on my lunch to see if the food was better than the last time I tried it. I got home to realize that the rice or beans tasted scorched, and the chicken was overcooked and too soft. I called to tell the owner, and she told me to come get more rice. I was hoping that was a joke. The one in Carrollton would never sell food in this manner. Please do us a favor and close this location. I didnt have $37 to just trash and still be hungry. Uggghhh

My husband and I have dined at this restaurant before, but never the type of experience that I had today. Id initially called in my order for pickup. After I arrived there, I noticed that there were no patrons inside of the restaurant, so I chose to just sit and eat a portion of my food. When I told the waitress/server Jill that I was there to pick up my meal she stated they were still working on it, but that they were packaging it up for me. I explained to her that I would like to sit and eat there if I could and she said yes. I grabbed a table and waited for my food. She delivered the food to my table tightly packaged to go even though I did explained to her that I would like to eat some of it there. She did not bother to ask me if I wanted water or any beverage to drink. She did not acknowledge me upon entry into the restaurant neither did she ever come back to the table to see if I needed anything. The rice was somewhat dry, but seasoned well, so I asked for any type of sauce to moisten the rice. She charged me $1 for a very small container (see last photo) of what she said was curry sauce. After eating a sm portion my meal for about 15 minutes, I repackaged my items and paid my bill. I did leave her a nice little message on the receipt encouraging her to be more approachable and possibly smile. I was the only patron in the entire restaurant and she found little to no time to check on me. However, she did dedicate some time to her cell phone. See photo. I was hoping that this was an off day for her, so I wished her well and God bless. Not certain if I would dine here again. Thanks!

This was our visit at your establishment for our lunch date and the atmosphere, music, and the food was wonderful. He had the curry goat and I had the brown stew chicken. Ww both had rice & peas + sautéed spinach for our sides. For our appetizer, we had jerk chicken, plantains, and curry chicken patty was awesome and we cannot forget the rum bread pudding! So good!! Now...The customer service started off good and went a little rocky but soon was good again. The other feedback was that we were without water for a while until we asked our server for two glasses of water. Did I mention how good and fresh the food was?? Good experience overall and will be returning very soon!

This place came highly recommended however, if the food wasn t amazing, they definitely would not receive 4 stars. I went here on a Monday afternoon with a party of 5. Upon arrival, I noticed a sign that said Please wait to be seated so we stood at the host stand for a few minutes. If it had not been for another customer telling us to just sit anywhere, who knows how long we would have waited. Once seated, we were very passively greeted by one of two employees who were working. Because we only had a short window of time before we needed to make it back to the convention center for our next conference session, we quickly decided what we wanted to order so we d be ready to go when the server came. The server came, took our order, and the wait began. We waited an hour for our food and when we asked for an update on the order, we were met with attitude as if we were bothering the server for wondering where our food was even though we watched multiple people that sat down after us receive their meals. Finally, we got our meals but had to take them to-go due to the time. Long story short, the food was great and ultimately worth the wait but the customer service could use some work. I hope to return when I m in Dallas again for a better experience.

Id say overall ok but my wife says she would go back but not in a rush.

One just says dine in or to go? off the rip as I pulled up to the bar. After that just... Nothing. Not looking for kings treatment at a restaurant, but I was the only one there. Prob just hit em at an inoppportune moment. 4p. Prob a dead mans hour for restaurants but I was passing thru and was jonesin for what Ive been missing in nyc. Well, I have my mean folk spots, and I love em cos theyre real, not indifferent, and the food is gooood. To be bad bad on friendliness... man, food gotta be craaaazy good. (Its how we do, for better and for worse.) Was good, but for $31 def not good enough to go back and have folks looking at you crazy and saying nothing. Will keep in the hunt. Difficult to find Carib and DR, PR food in Dallas. Id settle for a decent vibe, alone.

When we arrived, no one was upfront to greet and seat us. Sign said wait to be seated. There was only 1 patron sitting at the bar and a table of 5-6 people. Finally someone came out from the kitchen and just pointed to where we needed to sit. Did not come to us up in the front. Looked at the table. The seat and table were a little dirty. The unoccupied table behind us was dirty with rice on the table, chair and floor. Never cleaned off while we were there. THE PLACE WAS PRETTY DEAD. Seemed like only 3 people worked there. Server brought waters, straws and dirty sticky menus. No condiments were on the table. Orderd food. Jerked chicken wings- too spicy and definitely not like eating in Jamaica, cabbage and saffron rice both were bland, coconut shrimp was good but dipping sauce tasted like it was made with dirty dish water. My husband got the chicken jerk nachos. Chips were a bit stale, definitely not fresh and the next day, did not settle well. I dont see why this place was lucky enough to get even a 3.9 star rating. Im all about supporting black and minority owned businesses but trust me, we wont be going back. People were nice but the food is overpriced and the quality is not to be desired. The place reminded me of going into a greasy hole jn the wall place with the outcome being highly disappointing. I think this place could get way much more business with some overhaul. NEVER go to the Jefferson Blvd location during happy hour! The SERVICE IS HORRIBLE and the STAFF IS EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL. Ive been there twice and two other people were in the restaurant during both visits (so it was NOT BUSY). EACH TIME, I was EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED WITH EVERYTHING PERTAINING TO MY CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE (LONG WAIT TIMES, BAIT & SWITCH/FALSE ADVERTISING ON MENUS, RUDE SERVERS, & EXTREMELY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE). On a prior occasion, I arrived during happy hour and was seated. After waiting 20 minutes, a server returned and said THEY WERE OUT OF FOOD ON THE HAPPY HOUR MENU. She offered me a menu and stated that I could order food and drinks at REGULAR PRICES. I walked out. Today, I waited 20 minutes DURING HAPPY HOUR only to be told that I could NOT order ANY FOOD OR DRINKS FROM THEIR HAPPY HOUR MENU DUE TO A MIX-UP ON THEIR WEBSITE. Wow, really..AGAIN? Instead, they offered me food and drinks at REGULAR PRICES. On both occasions, customers entered and left after not being seated. This place is horrible. Im surprised its still open based on their poor treatment of customers. Today, I left the restaurant hungry and angry regarding the treatment that I received from their staff. The happy hour menus had not been cleaned (a greasy film on them), the tables were dirty, the staff would NOT honor the happy hour prices, the staff were rude and YOU WILL EXPERIENCE LONG WAIT TIMES. Warning..dont waste your time going there. SPEND YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE. Go to a reputable place that serves good food and provides great customer service. If I could give the Jefferson location a ZERO, I would. The Carrollton location is great.

It was my first time visiting the restaurant today. I was so excited. My party of 7 was greeted with a sour face and poor attitude. No hello or welcome. This lady seemed be assisting the younger server. She should have stayed at home today. The main server was very polite. The poor service today will not earn a return visit. I give the food an 3 out 5. I had the curried goat. It was salty. My husband had the red snapper. It was overcooked. My granddaughter had a plate of oxtail bones. Very disappointed.

Came in today and I m not gonna be biased because I am a New Yorker . Food was okay but having one server tending to the bar and at least seven tables on a Saturday is crazy. I understand that this economy is rough hiring additional employees but that was the only reason why I waited patiently for an hour for to go food which was only four Patties & a side order of plantins. Now I know those Patties are premade so waiting an hour four four pieces of burned plaintins is a lil much. I m a small business advisor so I say this with love. I want your business to win but you are in an area primarily full of Hispanic businesses so your cliente looks like you meaning we support you ! Please make us feel like we are adding to your business and employee enough people to run smoothly esp on weekends , take out orders should never be more than 30 mins especially because I was the only person in there waiting for to go. Wasn t offered water kinda ignored I still left a tip ONLY because the small interaction we had she was pleasant and I could tell she was overwhelmed.

I ve usually do take out in the evening time I noticed they had brunch which included chicken and waffles so I decided to dine in and realized upon my arrival the brunch menu is only for Sunday which is fine has a Caribbean decent o still enjoy some good jerk chicken meals etc I was the first customer inside but I had to wait for my wife in which she drove in a separate vehicle 10 mins. Our waitress was very nice but seemed to be distracted on a phone call in her AirPods must of been very important. And focused mainly on customers at the bar. They were able to get there food and drinks and checkout before I was able to ever receive my food. I would like to say im a influencer and I wasn t vlogging today but I really felt like my people (Caribbean) let me down today I was really craving and looking to support this restaurant. But time after time again. Im let down and the waitress had no accountability after waiting a hour and half almost wanted to argue with me about it. I would recommend if possible check out the Richardson location idk about the customer service but the food is definitely better

I really hate to do this to a black owned establishment but if I were them I would get rid of the entire staff. Today was my first time ordering from there and never again Customer service is some of the worse I ve experienced. The person assisting me with my online order was very rude, condescending and dismissive. I m not sure if they are trying to cut cost or what but for the price, the food is not worth it. I ordered a kids plate and an oxtail plate, they put the more than $20 oxtail meal inside the kids plate with only 4 oxtails, and they put the kids plate in the regular sized Togo plate and did not give my 2nd side item that I ordered. Please don t waste your time or money.

So I literally just left this restaurant. Im not sure if the lady was having a bad day or not, nor could I tell you if she was the bartender or a server. The attitude was most definitely present. I looked at the menu to place my order. The first dish I ordered she says they dont have. So I asked ok what do you have and she says everything but what I ordered. Then she she says let me check with the kitchen and see if the have it. (In my head) why would you tell me you dont have something but you havent even checked with the kitchen to know for sure. Here is the kicker. I place the order and get my order with a short wait time which was great. She brings me no change. I have to ask for my change. Then she shorts me on the change. So I count it a few times just make sure Im not crazy because I can do math very well. She then has the nerve to ask me did I need something knowing good and well she didnt give me all of my change. Clearly she needed it more than me. Current and future customers make sure you pay with card and cross out or x if you dont leave a tip. There seems to be some self initiated tip taking. I love Caribbean food and my family is from the Caribbean but I will not come back after this experience. In addition. My rice and peas were hard, my chicken was dry. Come on island spot. The Carrollton location was great but here at this Dallas location is very disappointing!

I agree lettuce on my nachos was not what I was used to but I think it is probably an authentic thing. Got some chicken tenders and so much better than I was expecting! It was so good. Reviewing my review. Marked improvement from a few years ago. I went there a few months ago, and the food was finger licking good. Meat tender, well seasoned. Rice well cooked. Its almost like a different chef! Delicious. The only thing was fried dumplings werent as delicious as last time I tried them. Im hoping next time theyll be what Ive come to love about this restaurant. Delectable fried dumplings likenowheree else! Good food, but prices are stee, and they dont give you nearly enough food on the plate for the money. Had to review my review. I like to give a second chance, but wow.... 1. On one occasion, the oxtails were severely undercooked almost raw. Very tough to eat. The tice and peas were severely also undercooked. Tough to eat and dry. Only the fried dumplings were edible and actually quite delicious. 2. On another occasion, the fried chicken was under fried. I had to take it home and put it in the oven for 15 mins to finish it, or it would have gone straight to the trash. 3. Fried dumplings are always delicious!

When we entered the restaurant the music was even louder! We couldn t even hear our waitress. My Apple Watch kept giving me loud environment alerts. We asked if they could turn the music down a tad and they said no. Which I guess is the reason why the restaurant was so empty. We ended up taking out business and appetites elsewhere. To start off with, everyone was very friendly and we were well taken care of. We started with appetizers of jerk wings and fried dumplings. Both were delicious and I highly recommend them. We were excited about dinner but the experience was a little inconsistent and disappointing. My son had the jerk burger with fries, both were delicious and the fries had a nice crisp to them. However, the burger was pretty inexpensive and the size reflected that. A few dollars more would have priced it closer to burgers in other restaurants to get a more normal sized burger and Id have gladly paid for it. I had the two meat plate and after having the wings I looked forward to the jerk chicken, sadly it was a little overcooked and dry, missing the delicious sauce that the jerk wings were tossed in. The curry chicken was ok as it was on the bland side. The beautiful saffron rice was terribly bland and I was disappointed to find no salt and pepper shakers on any of the tables because the rice needed it very much. The potential for a quality meal is there if they can do the entrees as well as they do the appetizers. Atmosphere and staff were great though and we enjoyed ourselves.

The amount of lettuce on my plate over shadowed the nachos, and the amount of chicken on the plate was a joke. The rum bread pudding was disappointing. I think in order for the food to get better, you need to hire cooks that have a passion to cook. Also, your menu needs to be more detailed. i.e..jerk chicken nachos comes with lettuce and tomatoes, let the customer decide if they want lettuce on their nachos. Jerk nachos Nothing like the picture. Just lettuce, small little bits of unseasoned chicken and chips smothered in american cheese..not even nacho cheese...all served cold. Even i couldnt finish it.. It was that bad. The service When we complained about the nachos the waitress didnt offer to make it right. I expected some sort of concession but nothing. I asked for a refill on my tea but instead of giving a full to go cup which is customary, she just poured the little bit of tea I had in althe to go cup. Hopefully, the food at the one in Carrollton tastes better. If you want Caribbean/Jamaican food go to the Jamaican restaurant in Irving. Now thats ISLAND cooking. This restaurant has been around for a while now but cares only about the money they make not the quality they give. So disappointed, will not be back to this one in Dallas. If you from the islands, you should know how island food tastes.

After recommending this place to my friend who s from out of town, I feel embarrassed because The Island Spot really dropped the ball this time. All of our food was cold The jerk chicken wasn t grilled or at least not charred at all. Also all the curry Sauce was all spilled inside the bag My curry goat was cold, and really tough to chew. My spinach and cabbage were also cold (but at least the cabbage was actually good) We also got jerk chicken wings, again cold but they weren t bad
