The Playwright is a cozy Irish pub with an amazing selection of Irish whiskeys, ales, and stouts. Its a great place to stop after seeing a performance at the AT&T Performing Arts Center. Although I didnt get there in time for food, Id definitely try it before the next show I see. The drinks were excellent. I recommend the Irish Mule.

Had an excellent experience at this place. The scotch eggs were amazing! The sausage was packed with fresh herbs, perfectly crispy outside, and lovely tangy mustard sauce. The food came out so fast. The happy hour drinks were a good deal. Service was great. Only downside is that the restaurant is really small so the inside got packed, but there is ample shaded patio seating.

Waitress was very friendly and attentive. My companion and I thoroughly enjoyed a leisurely mid-afternoon lunch and never felt rushed. We began with the spicy cheese curds, which the waitress helpfully warned us were quite spicy. As long as you like things hot, theyre not overpowering and we really enjoyed them. The burgers we had for the main course were cooked exactly as ordered, both in doneness and customized toppings. The one slight weak point was that the side of fruit ordered instead of french fries was not very appetizing, but after all thats not what we came for! We split a bread pudding for dessert, which was fantastic and of course highly recommended. All in all it was a wonderful meal.

Man, this place was fantastic. We went early in the day, the day before St. Patricks Day, so the staff was dressed a little more (at least, I ASSUME a little more) Irish to celebrate. It wasnt busy when we got there. Very nice selection of alcohol, especially if you enjoy something other than Bud Light or similar light weight beers. My husband and I shared the spicy Wisconsin cheese curds, and then I indulged in some Scotch eggs while he had the fish and chips. SO GOOD, every last bite! And the fish was HUGE, not some dinky little sliver of tilapia or whatever some places like to serve. Parking was located in a garage attached to the building next door - its free for the first 2 hours if you have the pub validate the parking. We loved it, and if we lived closer I would definitely go much more frequently.

Great place. The downtown location sucks for parking, so its better to come here if youre already downtown for some reason. The food is absolutely delicious though. The Shepards pie especially, man it was good. Their Irish mule was good as well, though not very strong. Definitely a place with fun vibes. Parking: If youre lucky, you can find a free spot. But mostly everywhere costs something outrageous, like usual.

Last night at the establishment, I encountered an issue with a bartender named Diego who was off-duty and visibly intoxicated. Despite this, he was continuously served drinks he shouldnt have been. Ive contacted the bar owner via Facebook seeking a resolution, but received no response. I wont return until theres an apology and some form of discipline. I was simply trying to enjoy time with a friend, but Diegos behavior, claiming a false connection and making my friend uncomfortable, was unacceptable. Even though Megan promptly intervened, I shouldnt have had to ask. If a guest is being bothered, staff should redirect them elsewhere. As a fellow bartender, I believe allowing staff to drink on the job reflects poorly on the establishment. Ill reconsider my review if changes are implemented, but until then, I wont be returning.

I m pretty disappointed with my latest experience at the Playwright. I ve been here several times but never have I been served food that is just plain old and past it s prime. I don t go out to a restaurant to pay to eat heated up leftovers. I ordered the pub curry on the recommendation of the wait staff and the chicken was straight up chewy and tough like it had been sitting in a refrigerator for a week. I m honestly upset with myself that I ate it at all. My stomach felt horrible afterwards all evening and I m used to eating hot curries. It was truly a disgusting meal. Giving the benefit of the doubt that the rest of their food is fresh but please don t cut corners to try to save money by serving folks old poultry in a soup format.

Food was OK, nothing to write home about. 1 appetizer, 1 drink, 3 entrees - $75.00. For the quality of the food and service, very disappointing - no reason to go back.

I keep forgetting to post my review about this nice little pub. The decor of the place is a pub but on to the food, my husband heard about the fish and chips here, and he knows I love a good fish and chips when I ordered the fish I was expecting to see like you normally get, the cod shaped fish that you see at other places, boy was I wrong. When she placed the food in front of me I was like, wow thats a whole fish and dove right in, the batter was nice and crispy but not too crispy, just the right crisp. The fish was so good and easy to eat I enjoyed the fries that came with it but I didnt really like the coleslaw. My only complaint about the fish was the batter fell off lol I wish it stayed on it but I still devoured the food our appetizer was fried corned beef & cabbage eggrolls, it was ok but I should have taken a picture of my husbands burger he had the Jameson burger and I took a bite of it and my taste buds where so happy at the flavor that burger has but we will back someday cause I love my fried fish

Two of the last 3 times eating lunch here the food has not been as good as it used to be. And they have begun to nickel and dime their customers. Charging $1.00 for two tiny pads of butter is a rip-off, especially when their food is overpriced to begin with. The server Ryan had a rude attitude about it all. Food has gone downhill; service has gone downhill and now ripping off the customers. Time to find another place to eat.

This is the perfect bar. Divey feel but not also not divey at the same time. Everytime I go, I make a new friend and always leave with great memories. The fish and chips are top tier and the tacos are surprisingly good for an Irish bar. Bartenders are incredible. Not the place to go to if you just want to sit on your phone, this is a place to share drinks, stories, and laughs.

Great pub! Very relaxed and nothing over the top except the quality of the drinks. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly where I asked to try something new and gave the reference of a French 75 and he made the Aviation which was delightful. He also had fun trivia about the Gin that was in my drink (something to do with a cow named Bertha).
