Noticed some changes in the staff and quality of food and pricing in last few months. I understand there is new management . Not necessarily for the best. Losing some of the friendly atmosphere, cutting food costs maybe. But definitely a trend going downwards. More of a corporate feel which is a shame. Was told that when some of my food was cold (toast), they could only re heat it and not replace it, unless I wanted to pay again for toast! Not the only things I have noticed. Real shame.

It seriously sucks that we left dissatisfied as my loved one and I adore the food at this establishment, but the absolute amount of hidden fees on the menu is akin to card transaction fees circa. mid-2000s. If the corn beef hash is 2 bucks extra on a breakfast platter, it should be marked under the item itself on the menu. Instead the price of the base breakfast platter is listed without any indication that the meats are an extra charge. Our waiter did not mention this expense nor that cheese in the cup of grits was a dollar extra, instead presenting the option Cheese or bacon? as if they came with it. Please make note of additional costs on your menu, especially on the breakfast platter. I came in with $50 dollars cash, and for two entrees, a coffee, a lemonade, and a cup of grits, the total came out to $48 or $24 per person. I shouldnt have to default such a small amount of a keep the change tip to a server who aside from the note above did an excellent job. Disappointing and disheartening for a restaurant so dear to me.

Food was amazing and the staff was friendly, management on the other hand was terrible!!! Maybe less time outside smoking cigarettes would help you manage your time and restaurant better Brandy! Edited to add photos from other upset diners and found these gems. Also seems to be a whole bunch of the they dont like POCs Edited to respond Oh but I did eat there, I had the amazingly delicious fried heart attack. Gravy was really nice and not lumpy or anything. My issue was with your manager Brandy and her completely disrespectful attitude. I was not only on time I was 10 minutes early. Brandy was in the parking lot smoking a cigarette when I arrived. She then decided to start a separate interview and proceed to take 30 plus minutes. I declined waiting for an interview as it was now 2:30 and I had priorities at 3. I didnt expect much from you based on your other comments to negative feedback. Cheers with the dumpster fire!

You will not leave hungry. This is the kind of place where you expect farmer style all day weak coffee. When it came in what looked like a cup from someones grandmas cupboard I was pretty sure that is what I was getting. I was wrong, the coffee was good and strong. Try the chicken fried bacon. I liked it, my wife was on the fence either way it comes with cream gravy which was better than the bacon. The corn beef hash was good but next time I will try CF steak or one of the huge omelets.

This breakfast is better than any hipster-tourist-trap-overpriced food truck Ive tried here in Austin. The fried country steak and chicken were moist, crispy, and flavorful. You can actually taste the paprika and lemon in the hollandaise sauce. The gravy is exquisite as well. My wife loved the creme brulee french toast. The service was outstanding! Im horrible with names but the waitress answered every question and accommodated the request we had. I fell in love with this place. I will be a regular fr now on. Oh, and the portions ARE HUGE! Ok bye...

First time coming to this place with the family from Houston. We were not disappointed. We appreciated their efforts to sit all 9 of us together instead of separating us. Customer service was great. Food was delicious, especially their sausage and gravy with biscuit! Gravy was Thick and flavorful while their biscuit was buttery and moist. Their portions are big so next time we know to order one plate for two people because we will definitely be coming back when we visit Austin. Thank you 1431 Cafe!!

Very strong breakfast and lunch diner, one of the few menu diners Ive found in north austin area. Most places have been Chipolted into assembly lines so its a proper throwback to have a sit down diner left, probably why its always jam packed with people. Friendly service, almost seems out of a previous time. Vegetarian options: Veggie omelets, etc Parking: Parking lot is often full, place is always hopping. Kid-friendliness: Kids welcome.

Upon arrival you feel right at home with all staff. We ordered the big plate $20. Our server,Gavin, recommend the creme brulee French toast. Yall the amount of food is definitely Texas sized, big portions. The entire plate had a little bit of everything . Just scrumptious. Everything tasted homemade. The creme Brulee French toast left me speechless. The sweetness and perfectly made French toast! Chefs kiss. Our server was tentative and friendly. I definitely felt like I came to eat breakfast at my moms house. We will be back.

Great local spot for breakfast and lunch. Its always a little busy but that is for good reason. Its one of the few places that you can get a great amount of good food for a decent price. The servers are always very friendly and take their time with you. It feels like how a diner is supposed to feel! Cozy and nostalgic. The food is for us southern cooking lovers - no hipster weird stuff on the menu or instagram neon signs. Just good old fashioned comfort food! Lets talk about The chicken fried bacon (one of their signatures)... HOLY SMOKES IS IT GOOD?! Its hand breaded and served with gravy. The chicken tenders are hand breaded in the same breading and thats my personal menu favorite! (with gravy on the side of course)

Good enough it will make any horrible work day better. Each time I have gone they have made small mistakes with my order. When I tell you they fix it right away, apologize and gave me a slice of cake for the trouble, their customer service is grade A. Also their portions are large, so be prepared for a lot of food or to share. Everything we have had on the menu I recommend.

She kept the coffee hot, which is always a bonus. There is such a variety and we were all able to find things we liked. She split the check up for us, without complaint. The food came out hot and delicious. I highly recommend!

One thing I like about driving between the urban centers of Texas are the small town diners. 1431 feels just like one of these - dated decor, classic friendly waitresses, timeless tasty grilled burgers. Time slows down here, it may even run backwards - back to when politics was as controversial as the weather, when we all lived in Mr Rogers neighborhood and nobody knew their cholesterol number. Those days sure did have some great food! 1431 remembers.

The service was terrible. Wait time was above 45 minutes when we were told it would be approximately 30 mins. On top of that food took 25 mins to arrive. The waitress(Sherry) disappeared and didnt refill our coffees. She also got my basic migas order wrong! I ordered it with sausage, they made it with bacon and ham. She said she will remake them, and got them out without my side of fried potatoes and no salsa. No waters served inspite of asking. Had to ask for cutlery coz she took mine with the plate. Such a stressful Sunday brunch experience. How this place has those many stars is a wonder! Sub par service! We had visited this place 4yrs ago and were disappointed even then. Never again!

Tasted my potatoes, same weird taste, tasted my other fired steak (I got 2 I like them so much), same weird taste. Tasted my mothers fries, same strange taste. The oil here was contaminated and is a health risk. I told the manager and she refuted my statement. Told them they should not be serving food from these contaminated supplies. Reported them to WilCo health inspector.

Ive going to this place for over 10 years. It never disappoints! The value is top notch, the wait staff is super friendly and helpful, and the food is downhome delicious!!! Great atmosphere! Salsa is delicious, generous slices of ham, their breakfast potatoes are awesome! And the sausage gravy... fantastic! Kid-friendliness: Perfect for kids!

We came here for the first time today, February 12th, and had breakfast. We were seated right away. The food was very good. Nice thick Pancakes and the chicken fried bacon was great too. Our waitress, Gavin, aka Carrot Top, was very friendly, helpful, informative and attentive. We will definitely come back over and over.

I love this place! My weekend walking group eats breakfast here once a month and it never disappoints. Service is always fast and friendly and the coffee is hot. I order a different breakfast meal each time and have not had one that I disliked so far. The restaurant is clean and seating is plentiful. While my group arrives early, we do notice a line beginning to form around 10am. Well worth the wait! .

I had the porkchop plate. The porkchops were grilled. The meal comes with 2 eggs, a side and bread. I had scrambled eggs, sliced tomatos, and wheat toast. Everything was delicious. The staff was fast and courteous. Its not a fancy cafe but very functional.

So 1431 is an old favorite for me and my husband. We go there pretty frequently they have really really good breakfast food and so many options for pancakes! Staff is friendly and we typically order takeout but sometimes do dine in. We always get the big breakfast when we pickup and usually get cremebroule French toast as well.

Delicious food everything tastes so fresh and they were soo busy but that didnt effect the quality of the food or the service not to mention that it was New years Eve and everyone stilled served us with a smile and a great attitude. we live an hour and a half away and will definitely be making trips to the 1431 cafe in the future. P.s. we were just in town for a event and saw yall in passing and just decided to stop in for a bite changed our whole day for the best.
