Update: This issue has been addressed immediately. The person was very kind and respectful. He compensated our whole trip. He also confirmed this issue will be looked over with great care. Now that this has been sorted, I wanted to point out that everyone else on that state park was more than kind and humble to us. We are definitely going back. Date of Experience: September 28, 2024 I am absolutely appalled by the customer service experience my friends and I had at Cedar Hill State Park this past Saturday. We are regulars here. Our dog was injured during a hike and unable to move. We were 6 miles into the trail, worried and desperate for help as it was getting closer to dark. We tried calling the parks customer service several times, but they were closed. With no other option, my friends hiked back the rest of two miles to seek assistance directly at the park office. They arrived around 5:45 pm, emotionally drained and worried for our dogs safety, only to be greeted with the most condescending, heartless behavior imaginable. The front desk employee was kind and trying her best to help, but she had to consult a woman in the back who was shockingly unprofessional and, frankly, racist. This woman rolled her eyes at our situation, acted visibly annoyed, and showed not a shred of compassion. Her attitude was not just unhelpful but downright cruel. My friend remained polite and calm, despite being incredibly stressed, but this employee treated them with blatant disrespect. To make matters worse, she even yelled at the front desk employee in front of them, as if their request for help was a ridiculous inconvenience. At one point, when my friend asked if it was possible to park his car near the road to make the situation easier, she loudly snapped, Does that LOOK like a parking lot? an absolutely unnecessary and rude response. It s bone-chilling to think someone like this is in a position where they have to interact with people who are often in vulnerable or stressful situations. We weren t asking for much just for someone to show a little humanity, to recognize that our dog was hurt and that we were doing our best in a difficult moment. I cannot stress enough how unacceptable this behavior is. I m currently in touch with legal counsel to discuss the possibility of taking further action due to the emotional distress caused by this event. No one should be treated this way, and it s a disgrace that this park employs people who are not only incompetent but lack basic kindness and empathy. I sincerely hope that management at Cedar Hill State Park takes this review seriously and starts training their staff not just in customer service, but in basic human decency. If you don t care about your visitors especially those in distress- you DO NOT belong in this job.

Considering how large this state park is and how close/convenient it is to DFW, its an asset to the area. There are lots of different trails to choose from, and many are bike friendly. I saw a lot of families picnicking on the lake. I only dock a point because its really too crowded/popular for my taste. Its great for families and a short day trip, but not for solitude unless you visit in off-season, during the week. Id imagine its quieter then.

We stayed at this state park one night only and wished we could have stayed more. They have 30 amp and 50 amp hookups, water, waste station, tent camping, showers, restrooms.... all the amenities that you could need for a quick city getaway. We chose a spot on Hogs Wallow campsite where the camping pads faced the water. At night, there was a breeze that came off of the water and the temperature was about 74 degrees. It was very, very enjoyable. The historical Ag center along the Penn Farm trail was really amazing, creepy, fascinating, and gorgeous. We found plenty of geocaches! With only staying one day, we were only able to hike the Talala Trail, but we will be back for the entire DORBA trail which is a multi- use! With the Talala trail, we experienced a multitude of different types of habitats; from prairie grasslands to coastal to forests and back to prairie. Overall, the park was very clean, except where you saw some assholes that decided nature was its garbage can. Shame on you. You have a whole city to do that, dont bring it in the parks. We ended up doing a ton of clean up along some trails. Thank you, Texas State Parks for having us!

Absolutely beautiful place ! Each campsite is clean & well maintained . Our site was in Coyote Crossing overlooking the water. We hiked the trails & had an amazing peaceful visit , just what we needed . We will probably wait until its much colder to return only because the weather was so great that all of nature came out to enjoy it. During our short stay we saw a scorpion, a snake & a tarantula .also they have invasive ants that were a bit annoying despite all our effects they got into some of the food . Which is another sign of how well the park is cared for, everything was living happily , Im always more concerned when I dont see wildlife. Toilets: The restrooms have hot showers , they were all clean & stocked ( the 3 I used) and in close proximity to the campsites . Dog-friendliness: I took my Dixie girl & she was able to do everything we did . On leash of course. Lots of other campers had their dogs as well & everyone followed the rules of keeping them on leash so there were no problems which is always a concern of mine . Picnic area: Lots of picnic areas , all super clean , situated in every area ,lakeside , prairie & forest so you have your pick & can choose a different spot each time if you wanted.

If you want a taste of the Texas Hill Country but are in the Dallas area, make the short drive south to Cedar Hill State Park. I go for the mountain biking, which provides a good workout and lots of fun. There are hiking trails, campgrounds, and water activities. The bluebonnets in spring are spectacular and you have to hike or mtb in to get to the best spots. The park is awesome, but I suggest avoiding it when it s too hot outside because it will taint your perception of the place. Tip: use the restroom facilities by the DORBA mtb trail because the area is less crowded which means the restrooms are clean and accessible. Toilets: Surprisingly clean

Its always fun to visit CHSP! We found a better swimming spot this time that wasnst so mucky. Family came out and we played with the grandkids, swam and cooked out smores. That was a first for the kiddos! With that said, we had a great time! The park is large! Always kept up and many day use grounds to make memories. The sites are generally shaded to some degree and all with their own character. Thats why we love coming to CHSP!

ANTS! BRING DIATOMACEOUS EARTH! Our site was lovely, and quiet. Nice nighttime view. We only were stopping through on the drive back home, didn t get much chance to explore. The park ranger mentioned ants could be a problem but we d probably be fine overnight, but I wish she would ve emphasized how seriously bad the issue is - our camper and car were infested within hours of being there and we had to get on the road in the middle of the night. Make sure to bring diatomaceous earth (this is a natural option that doesn t involve spraying poison), and treat your stuff after to not spread the Argentine ants.

It was very interesting to see the Penn Farm and to read the signs offering details of the farm. The swimming area was fine, we went knowing it was underwater and little bit still has a good time. I could have used a little less music from other people (I m pretty sure it s against the rules to being a speaker to project music), but it seems pretty common at this park. The stay here was ehh. No store to by firewood, ice or any other basic materials. We tried to fish and go to the swimming holes but there were hooks and trash everywhere we went and the swimming areas were crowded, dirty and unwelcoming. Then thing that we disliked the most was how the entrance was handled. We left three times and each time we spent close to an hour trying to get back in. This could easily be solved win by sending guest already checked in through a separate line. In don t see me bringing my family back here.

I went here for the 4th of July (2024) and I wasnt even sure Id be able to get in at all, but even after the reservations were cancelled (by our mistake) Michelle was able to allow us to fix the error at the gate. She also informed me of some incredible perks for Vets/Disabled-vets that Id have access too. So Michelle sent in to the office to issue some discounts and Grace Dean helped us out with all that. They were both fantastic and helpful. (Not to mention, they had cars lined out to the main road but they kept a smile on their faces and a cheerier disposition than I coulda mustered!

I am an annual park pass member at Cedar Hill State Park and I am highly dissatisfied with how they chose to handle 4th of July traffic this year. According to an unfriendly staff member, all visitors (member or not) were required to book a reservation in order to gain entry into the park on today, the 4th of July (we didn t have to do this in previous years ) Their reason was because they can t guarantee a parking spot even though countless cars were leaving the park as I spoke to said unfriendly staff member. I own a boat, so I asked about what about dock parking? She didn t know the answer. I also asked if they sent out any communications about needing a reservation to members and her answer was no . So tell me, why would you choose the 4th of July to NOT tell your members they would need a reservation to get in the park? Absolutely poor communication, especially for a holiday. Do better, learn to communicate with your faithful, paying members and get friendlier employees.

Upkeep and cleanliness of the facilities was lower despite the obvious work to upgrade the park. Drunk day pass visitors invading campsites until late night and driving wrecklessly around the park was an atmosphere changer. Litter, public nuisance and disrespect for the facility by a few guests should be stopped before it becomes the norm here.

Sunday funday ended up in the hospital for my 15yo daughter and getting 7 stitches on her leg under her knee due to a large gash. My daughter claims it felt like medal gate or something like that in water cut her opened. Many ppl were swimming around her also. We quickly drove to the hospital so I didn t have time to see or talk to park workers. Accident happened at 7:20pm on Sunday 6/23/24. Before all this happened I had called the front desk to tell them that restrooms needed tending to and his response was we will try to get someone out there. The restrooms were disgusting. I had called my daughter while she was in line, she showed up later to get into park to tell her to tell office that my parents are in park and that the restroom building #9 needed serious cleaning and toilet paper. Booth worker told her that #9 shouldnt be opened. WTH? Why wouldnt it be open, there was plenty of ppl in the area swimming. If thats the case they expected us to walk a long walk to the next restroom which were in the beach area which our friends walked to and they were LOCKED! I called office again and NO answer. SMH.... *We were there from 2:30p-7:30p. Paid $28. Area J Im guess, stop sign had a J on it. Restroom #9 area. Never again!

State Park seems a little run down. Staff was friendly and I can see the potential for a great park with a great location. However it seem the park rangers don t really care what goes on. People walking around with alcoholic glass bottles. We saw multiple tables with glass bottles in the open and alcohol. Rules need to be enforced. I know the park is flooded right now but boats should not be allowed in the area where tables are under water and tied to the pavilions. Jet skiers were driving crazy circles in the flooded area also were kids were swimming. At the group pavilion trucks had pulled all the way up next to it in the grass! We did not even feel safe to stay and swim with the things we saw. Very disappointed. We visit many state parks a year and have never seen this. Normally the park rangers ar good about controlling the rule but not here! Also most of the campsites are over grown. They are fine for RV camper but not very tent friendly!

Absolutely AWFUL SERVICE for a state funded park. Pathetic efficiency. Be prepared to sit in your car longer than on your boat. Not even a holiday weekend and waited an hour to get in. We have an annual pass. THEY NEED A LANE COMMITTED TO ANNUAL PASS HOLDERS.

This park is great. There is lots of space to get away from it all. There is a fishing pier but it is a concrete slab, no trees cover the slab. There are many places you can fish on the shore. There are restrooms on most of the shore recreation spots. They were clean and had soap. The camping spots all seem pretty good, but several dont have many trees. Picnic areas all look clean and well kept.

We like the parks location in the southern portion of the metroplex so we can camp near all the DFW amenities without having to take our 35 trailer into the city. The folks at the park gate couldnt have been more friendly and efficient, and our site (174) was clean and well kept on arrival. The site was level and private with a lot of trees and bushes all around, and we had just enough room for our RV and pickup on the pavement. Unfortunately, there is no lake view from this site, at least not when we visited in April 2024.

Very pretty park, huge territory. Stayed there for a few weeks in November and December. Lots of different options and views, great hiking trails. Park staff is nice. The nature is beautiful, loved the nightly howls of coyotes. They allow bus conversions which is extremely nice! Had no problem with Chevy 3500 cutaway bus. Our neighbors traveled in a big school bus. The crowd is diverse from family get-togethers, couple retreats to loners. There were some issues with toilets, but overall the stay was good. P.S. don t leave anything behind if you re driving off the lot to get provisions, or going for a longer drive than a few hours. Our lounge chairs were taken even though the spot was reserved for days ahead.

I went to Cedar Hill State Park for the first time this morning, and it will definitely be my last. I thought I was able to use my America The Beautiful card that I have due to me being a veteran with PTSD. I had never used the card before and wasn t aware that it is only valid at National Parks. I arrived at approximately 0815, and had to wait until the office was open at 0830. When I tried to hand the card to the gentleman behind the counter, he said, This doesn t do me any good in a very unpleasant tone. Shocked at his response, I just said, Have a good day and left. You want people to come support your park, but treat first timers like garbage. I m sure Cedar Hill State Park is a wonderful place, but I ll never get to experience it now as I refuse to be treated like trash.

Long wait to drive into park. Trails are not well marked or demarcated. But there are several areas for outdoor camping which I think is why most people come here. For a better hiking experience, I much prefer to visit Cedar Ridge preserve instead.

A fabulous and expansive state park with a giant lake, splendid facilities, abundant wildlife and birds. Miles of hiking trails and walking paths. I got there at 6 AM when the gates opened and spent four hours. Dog friendly. Nice restrooms. Great views. A few miles of roads to see nature. Playground: A couple of playgrounds in the park Toilets: Restrooms dot the park. Clean and easily accessible. Dog-friendliness: A great place to walk and relax with the doggy Picnic area: Many picnic areas, many covered

Came here for the eclipse! I was pleasantly surprised by this park - the mountain biking trails on dobra were very fun. We had our own private beach off of our campsite and everything was so green! Amazing bird watching, although we were sad we didnt see an armadillo, but happy the invasive ants werent an issue! We also brought paddleboards and had fun exploring some of the shoreline, especially the area with dead trees (very cool habitat for birds over there) - Im only taking a star off because the water didnt seem very clean/clear and the shoreline was very muddy so didnt feel super pristine, also a bit of micro trash at our site. That said, grateful for the quite, private and large site!

I enjoyed this park, was a bit worried about noise pollution being so close to a city but had none. However, there was light pollution so we didnt get to see the beautiful night sky as well as some other parks. We didnt have any ant problems but the ticks were insane! Saw and killed multiple everyday. We had sprays and repellents, thankfully, but still woke up on the 6th day with one in our camper. The sites were hit and miss (we stayed in Coyote Crossing); we made a reservation and our trip got extended on the front end but we werent able to extend at the same site so we had to book a few sites down and then move over when the time for our original reservation came. The first site (339) was much more secluded than the second (331), which had shared picnic table areas, nothing to hide or separate you from other campers except where you park. Since we got there early, we were able to see that no one showed up at the site we originally booked during the time it was supposed to be reserved. People, if you know youre not going to make it, please cancel your reservation. We had to set up and break down, leave and check in a second time, re-set up and break down again. I kept checking online availability and there was none but there were so many empty sites. Perhaps the weather concerns scared people off but without canceling, you kept other people from taking the chance. By the way, it paid off! The eclipse was amazing! If you bailed, you missed an amazing experience. Toilets: Bugs everywhere but that cant be helped. Otherwise, clean and well taken care of. Dog-friendliness: We brought our dogs as did many others and it went well.

We went to find bluebonnets for pictures with our dog and do a little hiking. The DORBA trail is currently closed for repairs. We did the duck pond trail and it was alright, pretty muddy in part. The Penn Farm area had a nice field for bluebonnet pics. I would say Cedar Ridge is better for hiking but have not been on the DORBA trail at Cedar Hill. Toilets: Multiple clean restrooms throughout the park Dog-friendliness: Very dog friendly, they gave our dog a treat at the front entry gate

We used the south boat ramp to paddleboard. Its nice and clean. Wish they had a trash bin close to the picnic table. Also wished they had a swimming area close by so the kids could swim while others paddleboarded, but people were using the open area to fish. We used the Talala trail, the trail head parking was closed off , so we had to park in the camping area. The trail itself had some muddy section. The last time it rained was about 5 days ago. It had some nice views of the lake and bluebonnets.
