Good bbq 1701 is actually the only bbq that s worthy anywhere near Beaumont. I ve tried 4 or 5 different bbq restaurants and they are all horrible and amateur s most others bbq taste like it was cooked in an oven and slopped with sauce. The only negative is the price tag! 1701 is very expensive but pretty much the only good bbq you will find around here. I m from central Tx and have become accustomed to some of the greatest bbq joints around JS

The restaurant opens at 11. I got here about 1110. The macaroni and cheese was still baking it wasnt ready. The Caucasian guy heavy set with the beard was preparing your side dishes. He needs to drain all of the water out of the collard greens before putting it in the container. I paid for collard green juice rather than collard greens. He also doesnt fill the 10.00 container up. This place is already expensive give us what we pay for. The beef sausage wasnt cooked all the way it had a rubbery texture.

The food was good but not great . The prices were ridiculously high. I was sticker shocked when I went to the register to pick up food for 2 people. I told myself, this better be the best bbq in Texas. No, to my disappointment, it was not. 6/10 The sides though, was the best part of the meal!

We recently moved down here from Virginia & love our Carolina BBQ. Well, this place has shown us Texas BBQ is delicious as well. Their Brisket definitely has our Carolina beat. The meat was juicy & tender. Really melt in your mouth! Ive been looking for some good green beans down here & these definitely meet the standards. 10/10 recommend.

Like most of the other reviewers, I d highly recommend the turkey, which is an underrated star. The beef ribs are some of the best I ve eaten in decades, if not the best I ve ever had. Their brisket is a staple that never disappoints. Helpful hint; the smoked pepper jack Mac & cheese and their greens are worth a trip alone!

Ive been wanting to try 1701s BBQ for almost 2 years since we made the move to East Texas. It made Texas Monthlys top 50 and I wanted to compare it to other Texas legends like Louie Muellers, Blacks, Kreuz Market, Smittys, Truth, and others. My 8 year old and I finally had a chance to make it on a Saturday and I thought it would be packed! We got there around 11:30am and was mildly surprised that there were a few cars, but not a crowd!! There were only two people in front of us so it didnt take long to get to place our order! My 8 year old wanted Brisket, not just any, he told the server he wanted fatty brisket!!! (Thats my boy! ) I ordered a sliced brisket sandwich, and he stacked on the brisket!!! I then told him I wanted to order BBQ to go also, but we were going to eat inside. So I ordered 1lb. of fatty brisket, 1lb. of Pulled pork, 1lb. of Smoked Turkey, and one Beef Dinosaur Rib! They also had a special going on, 1/2 of a smoked chicken for $6! Yeah, go ahead and throw that in there with the Turkey!!! Next we moved down the line a little to get our sides. I knew what the 8 year old wanted, he had been eyeing the Mac and Cheese ever since they had laid two big slices of brisket on his tray! They also gave him one of their strawberry shortcakes! I moved over and ordered their Jalapeno Potato Salad and a side of the Mac and Cheese myself!!! We ordered Sweet Tea for our drinks. Then we had a seat at one of the inside tables. The young lady working the register helped us move our food to the table! I must say everyone here was very welcoming once you entered the door and very friendly and helpful!!! Once you pay there is a place in the corner across from the register to get forks, knives,v and spoons. There is a small table right across that has condiments and napkins you can get for your table. There is a bottle of 1701 BBQ Sauce already at your table also! The inside has a very nice ambience and there are some shelves to the right as you walk in that has T-shirts, Sauces, and other items for sale! There are big blackboards behind the serving counter that list what they are serving and I think I heard the price shows per half on the prices. To the left of it behind the young lady serving sides is another Blackboard that lists the sides and desserts on it! My 8 year old didnt waste any time tearing into his sliced brisket! He loved the Mac and Cheese! It had a wonderful flavor and was made from a combination of two cheeses! My sliced brisket sandwich was piled high with plenty of meat!!! Ive been dying to try their Jalapeno Potato Salad ever since I heard that they made theirs that way!!! It was really delicious with just a hint of Jalapenos in it! It wasnt overbearing even for someone that might be skittish about it being too hot! It wasnt hot at all just really flavorful! I want to say if your curious and havent tried it yet, they can hold their own against any of the central Texas outfits!!! The brisket had a really nice and flavorful bark on it, it was really good!!! The brisket was moist and cooked to perfection! It wasnt dry and it pulled apart like it should, not overly so. Before we left, business had started picking up a little after 12:30. And it is good enough they are usually sold out by 2:00Pm!!! You wont go wrong making this a stop for some really great BBQ!!! Kid-friendliness: The staff was very friendly and talkative with my 8 year old. He really enjoyed our lunch there!

Travis (owner) and his staff really caught me by surprise with what they are serving the local community. I couldn t try the brisket as they had sold out, but was able to try turkey and a beef rib. Both which were some of the best I ve had, easily the best in this area. If you are in the area, this place is definitely worth the visit. Will be back soon !

Since they were out of chicken they talked us into the turkey which I would put up with the top 3 best turkey in the state of TX. They were out of some of their most popular sides and the chickens but were very happy with our experience. The people are great, very friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Each item is sold separately by the 1/2 pound. Still before noon and they ran out of all 3 sausages. Must be good! The massive brisket sandwich was so good, juicy, and crusted with a minimal smoke ring. The beans and potato salad were pretty good. The one thing that they lost a star was drinks. A Texas barbecue joint, whether its a food truck or fancy dining, is required to serve unsweet and sweet tea from a huge urn and in big glasses. FAIL. No water (iced, in glasses) option. I ended up with a little bottle of sparkling water and a long line to replace, not refill. A sad and obvious omission. I would still recommend it. Vegetarian options: Yeah... Mac-n-cheese. Water.

OMG! Stopped here on our way from Houston to New Orleans, and cant wait to go back. Beef rib: lots of meat, very tender, excellently smoked. The most pricey thing on the menu, unfortunately. Chicken: good portion, moist, nicely smoked, crisp skin. Turkey: tender, but not much smoke flavor, would not order again. Beans: Id go back for the beans alone! Smokey and rich with lots of bbq meat included to give them both texture and flavor. So very good! Cole slaw: the only disappointment. Not much dressing at all, more like moist shredded cabbage with cilantro. Ill pass. (Mind you, I really like KFC-style Cole slaw, so take my comments with that in mind) Corn: what my partner described as almost chow-chow. Whatever it was, it was good! Oh -- no site-made iced tea. I think they may have had some in bottles. How can that be? (Laughing) Overall, wonderful. I really do want to go back (we were too late on our way back through Beaumont). Expect them to run out of food early afternoon; go early!

Best BBQ in Beaumont. Very tasty, filling, and reasonably priced. Costs about the same as other terrible BBQ places, but the food is amazing. Absolute BEST brisket I have ever had in my life and I love BBQ. The brisket is perfection with a nice bark and juicy, tender meat inside. You can cut the brisket easily with a fork, no knife needed. Not too lean, not too fatty. Just PERFECT. The boudin sausage and shrimp gumbo is amazing too. I ate a GIANT meal of a pound of brisket, a big bowl of shrimp gumbo, and one boudin sausage. My only food for the day because I was stuffed. This is a must eat if youre ever in or around Beaumont. They are only open from 11am to 2pm for lunch, and often close when they sell out at 1pm-ish. So hurry up and go! Dietary restrictions: Perfect for carnivores and low carbers.

Real pit bbq, done well. Their beans- baked but not sweet are one if the top three bean dishes I have ever tasted. I have to go back just to try them again. 3pork ribs, beans & slaw (also very good- homemade) was reasonably priced. So much food, I took most of it home and had dinner for two that evening. Impressive.

Got a quarter pound of brisket and a side of pepper jack Macaroni and Cheese. My brisket had a big piece of cooked fat on my meat. Too much for $8.50. My side ($5.00) was delicious and enough to share with my friend. His ribs were tasty and he got a side of potato salad that was good too. Looked and tasted homemade.

Our first time having central Texas BBQ. Absolutely delicious. We had pork and beef ribs, brisket, turkey and jalapeno sausage. Wow. Mac and cheese and beans were Great! Followed by carmel bread pudding. Yum! The staff and owner were exceptional friendly and kind. We drove 90 miles out of our way just to eat there. Worth every mile. Thank you for a special experience.

Amazing atmosphere, great people and even better Bar-b-que. The ribs have phenomenal flavor, combined with a Smokey element that pairs together to create one of the best I ve had! 10/10 would recommend! Just a mile or so off of I-10 makes it the perfect place for a stop while traveling. Special thanks to Travis for making sure everyone is always taken care of! Can t wait to come back and have some more amazing food!

Food was really good. I had pork ribs and turkey with collards and Cole slaw. My wife had pulled pork sandwich. Sadly they were out of brisket and sausage by 1230. Portions were large and the flavors were great. Sauce was ok, not a huge mustard base fan, but it was good. It is rather expensive, though, even for the portion size. I like the option to 1/2 or 1/4 size an order, but still a bit up there. I will eat there again, but maybe not as often.

We tried the Brisket, Beef Ribs & house made Beef Sausage. The sausage was very good the brisket was cooked well however not seasoned hardly at all. The Beef Ribs were the same as the Brisket cooked well just not enough flavor. We were extremely disappointed in the beans. We enjoyed the collards. The staff was nice and friendly. However I just dont see us going back.

1701 BBQ was an all around great experience! Myself and a couple friends are doing the TX Monthly top 50 BBQ passport challenge. Of 40 cue stops so far, I am pleased to put 1701 BBQ in the top 5. The atmosphere was great, and we loved the musician playing traditional country music inside. The interior decor was rustic, clean, and cleverly decorated; exactly what I ve come to appreciate in BBQ joints. The staff, especially pit master Travis, were extremely courteous to us. Travis even took the time to talk to us at our table for awhile, asking us about our various BBQ adventures with the TX Monthly Top 50 contest. The cue was top notch, the brisket had a perfectly peppery bark and the tender well seasoned ribs fell right off the bone. A fairly new addition was the homemade strawberry cake, which we hope they keep around! All in all, it was a wonderful experience that I would highly recommend going out of your way to try!!

Pitmaster Travis was one of the nicest people we have encountered in our quest to visit all of the Texas Monthly top 50 BBQ joints. Brisket was done to perfection and we got to try one of their newer desserts, a strawberry cake that was perhaps the best cake we have tried.
