ZERO STARS. NEVER AGAIN. This man couldnt answer the simple question of what was a Po Boy. I think that is the bare minimum to answer a question, rather than respond with trust me, its the best. I asked three times in a row and he kept joking about it. It wasnt funny by then. What I recieved was an overpriced overcooked fish sandwich.. worst meal Ive had in Austin so far. Dont waste your time or money here at this establishment. It will fall apart in your hands. Half of our order was missing on arrival, service staff was rude and abrupt and our sauces dropped on the floor with no apology. Went back to the service window and it was closed because they were multi tasking and focusing on the internal customers inside the venue. Waiting 5 mins for them to open it again (its clear and they could see me standing there waiting), gave me the missing part of my order, no apology. STAY AWAY. Other independent venues are high quality, at least cheap chains are able to follow a simple consistent process.

During a week long stay in Austin, I found myself right across the street from this spot. It was so good that we ended up eating lunch here two days in a row. I highly recommend the blackened catfish po boy and the salad with blackened jumbo shrimp. The chips and guac were also excellent.

I recently visited Turf n Surf in Austin, TX. The staff was friendly, and the food was undeniably great, especially if youre a fan of seafood. However, the overall vibe wasnt quite what I was expecting. It has a grungy atmosphere that, while it may appeal to some, wasnt really my style. The place is definitely more of a bar than a restaurant, so I wouldnt recommend bringing kids along. The dim lighting and somewhat gritty ambiance made it feel a bit off-putting for a dining experience. If youre looking for a casual, bar-like setting, this might be your spot. But if you prefer a cleaner, more family-friendly environment, it might not be the best choice.

Ordered the catfish poboy sandwich and cilantro fries. Did not expect what we got! The fish was crisp outside, tinder inside, delicious! You get two sauces with the sandwiches, delicious as well. More than enough food, could be shared. The fries are fresh squeezed with lime and topped with cilantro. (And an extra) when we first arrived it was just a window to order from. We thought we had to eat outside (there are tables outside) but next door noticed that Lavaca Street Bar has a window inside to order from. Very smart for both businesses!

Legit! I was so sad when they moved from their location at the Domain. I dont travel downtown much from north Austin but whenever I do, I try to stop in for a catfish poboy. Portions are gigantic and the price is right. Come hungry and leave full the remainder of the day. I hope the owner consider opening a location in Cedar Park/Leander! We need some good fresh seafood up this way! The last time I dined, I did notice they had changed the lettuce. You typically would get spring greens but they switched to romaine. Not sure if this was due to cost or they ran out but it makes a huge difference. Spring greens are much better. I am rating the food only. Its located inside of a bar, Lavaca, which operate separately from the restaurant.

I ended up here while wandering around at dinner time. I ordered the grilled ahi tuna salad, and got an excellent piece of fish! Cooked just right, seasoned well, with a delicious side sauce. And the salad dressing was REALLY good! Im honestly not sure what it was, but it was delicious. From the time I ordered at the window to the time my food was delivered couldnt have been 10 minutes - extremely reasonable. I ate outside (honestly not even sure if they have indoor seating). My one issue was the condition of the table. I forutnatley had a sanitizing wipe, because the least-dirty unoccupied table was kinda gross. If Id looked at the table first, I might have passed this place up. When I wiped it down, the wipe was BLACK. But I wasnt eating off the table, and the food was very tasty.

The food is so delicious and filling. Full plate for a reasonable price. The staff of so nice and hard working. The atmosphere is cool. Theres seating in the outside front to eat. You can sit inside and get an alcoholic drink or theres a patio in the back with tvs as well. Vegetarian options: There are several veggie options on the menu. My favorite is mushroom quesadillas. They make super delicious cilantro fries. Theres street corn on the cob and hush puppies. Parking: The venue does not provide parking. There are 3 different parking garages in a 1 block radius. There is also valet at the Hotel Zaza across the street. Kid-friendliness: Due to the outside seating in the front kids can join their parents to eat here. Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp to access the outside window and access to the order window inside the bar. Ordering outside means you wont be getting drinks from the bar but there is wheelchair access to enjoy the bar as well.

Read about this place being one of the best fish tacos places in Austin. We were excited to finally go. I m no food critic but I love fish tacos. Hands down worst fish tacos we have ever had. It was snapper and overcooked, or low quality fish I don t know. We ordered it fried and seasoning was non existent. Not flaky and airy like the fried snapper we have had before. For $60, I am genuinely disappointed.

One of the more reasonably priced options downtown. Sandwiches price at about $20, fries/hush puppies are $4. The sandwiches are stuffed full. They have many po-boy options. My shrimp po-boy did not skimp on shrimp. You can get your fish/shrimp fried, blackened, and grilled. Sandwich condiments are excellent. Seating is outside. You order at the window and food is brought to your table. After your delicious meal, bus your own table. There is a trashcan and leave the metal trays by the window.

Best blackened fish tacos ever! Ever! Anywhere! During the year we lived in the Austin area, we tried the snapper, cod, halibut, and sea bass -- all blackened -- and all were incredibly delicious!! & those same blackened fish on a salad are also just as fantastic (pro tip for the salad: order an extra side of their cilantro ranch dressing -- its that good!!) Update, 2022: We are happy to report that the blackened cod tacos and blackened cod salad were both (still) extraordinarily delicious!! This is a not to be missed place in Austin for eating! The food was decent (although they were out of cod) but the portions are about twice what someone can eat (and consequently close to twice the price). There were two of us and each of us only go through about half of our food meaning the rest of it went to waste. And I hate wasting food. So either they should halve their portions and charge a lot less, or warn you that two people should probably share a portion. But the rather surly woman who takes your orders at the window probably isnt going to tell you that.

We had the blackened mahi tacos and catfish poboy. It seemed like the large, messy portion was supposed to make up for the lack of quality and flavor. Way too expensive for what we received and compared to the rest of the amazing food weve had in the city from food trucks to fine dining, it was all very underwhelming. Far from being what was touted as the best fish tacos in the city, though if you are drunk and there is nothing else open, it might be worth it.

We decided to go here because it was one of the few food places that was open after a Tuesday night ACL event . Just as other reviews mentions, this place is expensive . Two fried shrimp Po-boys and a side of Cajun curly French fries was about 60 dollars, with tip . Po boy was about an 8/10. Fresh vegetables, good bread. Shrimp could have been a little more meaty and maybe better with a different breading , but very decent . French fries came out hot and fresh. 8/10 also. I was mostly impressed with the service . One gentlemen was so good at anticipating our needs , keeping us informed, and just doing his job well. Always going above and beyond . I recommend if you are close by.

Great place I usually go to a place multiple times until I leave a review and each thing I ve had so far has been great. The Cajun ribeye , fried tilapia , and pulled pork with tangy mango sauce all are so good, Mac and cheese is usually always on point to except last time I think they used a replacement which was ok, also only reason for 4 stars is poboy is in the name and with the history of the sandwich it shouldn t be so expensive, but overall great place amazing food and great bar next door

I went here the other day for lunch, the blackened catfish was very good although a bit on the salty side, the mac & cheese and the coleslaw was also very good, it was a bit on the spendy side but still had a very good experience with the restaurant.

Turf N Surf Po Boy was our first eatery after flying into Austin and they made a terrific impression in terms of taste and service. We were pleasantly surprised to find it adjoining Lavaca Street Bar where we sat on the patio. Our well-seasoned grilled mahi mahi and fried shrimp tacos were topped with fresh vegetables, including a delicious cilantro-ranch dressing. The cilantro fries had a hint of lime and a perfect crisp. Being able to order draft beers and cocktails with our savory meal was a bonus amidst the hip setting.

I ordered to go. I put special instructions to have some type of sauce for the pulled pork po boy some chipotle ranch for sweet potato fries and reg ranch for the chicken wings. The wings had a puddle of grease , texture and flavor were ok. They gave me some type of dill flavored ranch. The pulled pork came with NO sauce at all. The sweet potato fries came with ketchup. The flavor and texture of the foods were not worth the 45 dollars it cost me. Maybe i should have ordered steak and seafood or maybe i dodged a bullet by not ordering the more expensive items. I will not be ordering from this place again and do not recommend this place to anyone. We did not finish our meals...

We first ate here in 2014 when it was a top 100 Yelp. Quirky place and the bar is separate. Fast forward to the 2020 pandemic. Buffalo shrimp salad for me and blackened catfish po boy and of course shared a sweet potato fry. The shrimp and salad were massive like before. Momma spent some time growing up in NOLA so she always gets this po boy for authenticity. And of course the best sweet potato fries we have ever had. And it hasn t changed in 6 years. The tables out front are not covered by the license so a beer etc with your food will be indoors. We went to the patio. We were the only ones there and had our IPA and marg. This is clearly a do-over for us. Thanks for 6 years of consistency.

These folks take their Po Boys seriously. I took my first one (the Hipster) back to the conference center and ate it while many looked over their shoulder jealously, wondering what that amazing smell was coming from. Several inquired as to the source. No, it is not exactly like a PoBoy that you might get in NOLA. But you arent there, and this is either more than close enough, or a wonderful Texas variant. Either way, they win. The folks working the place are focused, businesslike about getting it done, and friendly. I felt well taken care of. And well fed. I tried shrimp and hipster (vegetarian). All good.
