Dining at Chez Zee American Bistro was a delightful experience. The charming atmosphere, enhanced by pop piano tunes, set the perfect backdrop for a memorable meal. I savored their signature Crème Brulee French Toast, a dish that perfectly balanced sweetness and texture. The attentive service made me feel welcomed and valued throughout my visit. Leaving the bistro, I felt satisfied and eager to return for another brunch adventure

Never a bad experience. Ive eaten here many times and its always been great. The food is fast and delicious with great specials. The bartender, Wesley, made me one of the best espresso martinis Ive ever had. Wesleys service was on point. Hard to find these days. The manager on duty, Sarah, was accommodating and friendly. A brunch must in the ATX.

This is a true hidden neighborhood gem! I never see it on any lists of best of or where to go but it should be in the Top Ten of Austin. It has been around for decades and has a consistently excellent kitchen. Attentive and always polite. Ample parking, always easy to walk in and the food never disappoints. Occasionally with live music. Prices are fair and portions won t disappoint.

Chez Zee s customer service is just amazing. Home solo with the kiddos for the weekend and ordered brunch via Uber Eats - and was bummed the (free!) croissants & strawberry butter were missing from the order when I got it. I called and the owner answered - she said they would deliver them to my door ASAP. Twenty minutes later, the missing croissants were at my door - and she included bonus chocolate mousse too. Thank you, customer service like that is so so appreciated - it truly made my week! And the crab cakes were excellent too. : ) I will be back soon!

Ordered Sharons Angel Hair Pasta (light, garlicky, creamy) with an appetizer of sourdough (which is priced around 4-8$). Key lime pie was good and not tart and the angel hair was good. Entrees took a little long to get but the waiter was hospitable and checked in frequently. The restaurant is visually interesting, with many (purchasable) paintings and lights. Solid 9.5/10! Vegetarian options: They are there. Dietary restrictions: Labels are there but you may have to ask about specifics. Parking: They have their own parking lot with valet and non-valet spaces. Kid-friendliness: Wouldnt recommend taking a kid, fancier dishes. However, there is fried chicken (chicken beignets) and fries so it is possible. Wheelchair accessibility: May need some help.

The food was amazing and we received so many compliments about it, the service was fantastic, and the cake was delicious too (we got a Maida s cake). Chez Zee is an old school Austin favorite and I m glad to see it s still here. I haven t been here forever and came to town for 4th of July and enjoyed lunch there yesterday. They have added a private banquet building and additional outdoor seating since I was here last. There is a bubbling fountain outside and a variety of seating options. Right near the entrance is a red baby grand piano, I would love to see music here some time! Also, there is a bar with a few seats around and a pasty case. There are string lights hanging through out give a warm glow. The walls are painted a cheery yellow with artwork for sale on the walls. There looks like an addition to the side with additional seating. Since I went at lunch they had portions closed off. I ordered a mimosa and enjoyed it while trying to narrow down my option for lunch. I had the Brussels spouts to start. They were wonderfully seasoned and drizzled with balsamic. I tried the shrimp and corn bisque soup and had a small side salad. All was delish. The restaurant was never too full while I was there but I imagine it stays quite busy in the evenings. If you looking to sample an Austin original, be sure to give Chez Zee a try!

Chez Zee is a reliable place for absolutely delicious food, impeccable service, and pleasant French Bistro style atmosphere. The kind of place to bring out of town guests or a date. We shared a Belair salad, a delightful combination of baby greens, blueberries and jicama for a little crunch, and also shared an order of pan-fried trout with green beans and garlic mashed potatoes. We ended with the ultimate comfort food a slice of Maida s cake, delicate layers of gluten-free chocolate cake with generous whipped cream filling and light mocha frosting. The generous portions are enough for two meals and the quality is basically perfect. Our server was attentive and cheerfully split our plates, even though we arrived within an hour of closing time and sat outside by the fountain on the breezy patio.

We ve been to Chez Zee for many Father s Day brunches, at least 10. This past Sunday with a 9am reservation for 8, we were seated promptly all the way in the back of the restaurant. The waiter seemed new but was very polite in getting our drinks, with the exception of coffee. Said the were brewing some. It was 9 am, 1st seating. No coffee? Anyway, took our order. The food was not served to the kids until 50 minutes later. I complained to 3 of their managers all along the tone frame with responses of I ll check on it . Partial orders were filled and side orders delayed until after 10 with the kids ( 4 of them) getting theirs last. Tough orders like pancakes! The croissants took until 9:45 as many later arrivals were enjoying theirs. Clearly a waiter issue. With my polite but stern display of complete disappointment, we were told that the entire meal for the 8 of us was going to be COMPED. It really was waranted but I think that this entire episode left us with no choice but to cross this restaurant off of our future plans. This was not their first rodeo but they completely dropped the ball on this. I decided to not tip the waiter, which I have never done, but he truly didn t deserve one. He seemed lost and confused. 3 Stars for food was good. The service and follow through was awful

The restaurant has a nice ambiance, and that s the best I can say for here. I was sat and not greeted for 10 min, once greeted the server was really dry and short with me. (I watched a much more animated and welcomed greeting from him to another table right after me in which he welcomed them and shared the daily specials, which he didn t with me) and the pork tenderloin was bland with a watery bbq-esque sauce that was just all around lacking. I did have the crab cakes appetizer that was better, but I doubt I ll be back.

Only issue I had was the food, it was quite underwhelming compared to the whole ambiance. Taste was okay at best and quantity wise wasn t so great for brunch. Not a bad place for a brunch! **Update 5/8: Well, Im eating crow! Apparently the parmesan cheese is a vegan alternative - see the owners reply below. I really appreciate the quick turnaround on clarifying that detail. I guess Ive been burned so many times by restaurants that claimed to offer a vegan option while not understanding exactly what that meant that I just assumed the worst when I saw parmesan cheese on the menu. Thats on me for not double-checking with the wait staff. Guess Ill have to give it another try now that I know :) Thanks Chez Zee! Original Review: The food here is good, and there are a handful of vegan options, but FYI - their Kale Salad (which is marked as vegan on the menus at the restaurant and online) is NOT vegan as it comes - it contains parmesan cheese. Its been like that on their menu for years and Im always surprised it hasnt been fixed. Maybe theres some confusion because parmesan can be lactose-free, but its not vegan. Posting this in the hopes that the owner or someone on staff sees it. The salad can easily be ordered without cheese (and is quite good!) but it shouldnt be advertised as vegan.

We havent lived north-ish in decades, but I dont remember it sucking as bad as it did yesterday. We went to an Austin Jazz Society concert there. I had the worst eggs Benedict Ive ever seen -- dried, shriveled sausage patties that had clearly been sitting under a heat lamp all day, thin, watery, flavorless Benedict sauce, and untoasted English muffins. The eggs were poached well, Ill give them that. My wifes ham sandwich was 90% doughy bread, 8% an insanely sweet pepper relish, and maybe 2% of really thin slices ham. So yeah, avoid.

Went for brunch on a Sunday with a reservation. They have a live piano player and were also hosting an Austin Jazz event that day. We sat on the patio. Great food, great prices, decent bubbles selection and list (although bottles were definitely on the pricey side - likely priced so they can slash to 50% off during happy hour but wish it was more affordable for every day). Dessert list was fire. We had the biscuits and gravy, crème brûlée french toast (very dense, more of a dessert), pecan chicken and fried chicken. Also had bloody marys and bubbles by the glass. Everything was lovely just good, solid food overall and friendly service. :)

I asked for some sort of bread and she brought out their own bread and made a dip saucer with herbs and smoked olive oil!! POW!!! We will be back! I am so glad we still have some of Austins great spots! OH....and there was someone at the piano. Louis Rhodes is his name and he was amazing. He seems so young and yet, he played in the background. He didnt try to entertain, and disrupt the atmosphere. His song selections and his take or interpretation of the pieces were just easy jazz. I put Louis right up there with the dessert case in fabulousness. And NO I am not a relative. haha See ya soon Chez Zee!! Parking: Friendly and attentive.

Great service, atmosphere is fine (nothing outstanding), but the food is not worth the price. I had high hopes due to an Austin Eater article, and we went for brunch as a Xmas gift from my wife. I am a huge fan of chicken n waffles, and since my go to spot has gone downhill (see my 24 Diner review), I have been on the search for a replacement spot. First, for brunch they bring out complementary croissants with a butter and fruit preserves mix, these were very good, and gave me high hopes for the rest of the meal. I ordered the chicken and waffle, the chicken was actually pretty good, and not dry like the breast meat often is. The waffle was also well made, but nothing special. It came with no butter for the dish, and the syrup was just your run of the mill log cabin. I did order it with Maple syrup for an additional $5, what I received was NOT Maple syrup, but when I asked I was assured it was. I was not charged the $5 for for the maple syrup, so I am not complaining about that ... But if this really was what they considered maple syrup, it is not, and I would not recommend paying the upcharge for it. My wife was not very impressed by the crab cake eggs Benedict. It wasnt horrible, but it wasnt as good as she was expecting. Unfortunately, I dont think well be back.

Very comfortable place with good food. We just had brunch and it was well prepared, quality food. Prices are quite reasonable and they have a decent wine list. Parking can be a problem and u may have to use valet service at busy times. Parking: Limited spots on site, many are valet only. Weve taken to parking in the lot across the street an walking to the intersection to cross over.

The signature crème brûlée French toast is delicious. The croissants you start breakfast with are delightfully edible clouds paired alongside an ambrosia like fruit infused butter. Each course came out just as our family finished the previous. We will definitely be back. I recently had the pleasure of dining at Chez Zee in Austin, and it was nothing short of delightful. Founded the year I was born, it s clearly stood the test of time and maintains a legendary status in my books. From the moment I stepped in, the cozy, bunny-themed decor transported me into a whimsical wonderland. The attention to detail was impeccable; every corner adorned with cute bunny figurines and charming artwork. The menu is a culinary adventure that I can t wait to explore more. At the moment I m only on the breakfast menu. I had the pleasure of trying the polenta Benedict and it was great. Threw in a side of gluten free pancakes, best I ve ever had at a breakfast spot btw. The ambiance, combined with the delectable food and top-notch service, made for a memorable morning. Whether youre celebrating a special occasion or simply looking for a delightful dining experience, Chez Zee is the perfect choice. I cant wait to return and explore more of their menu. A true gem in Austins culinary scene!

This was our chosen brunch spot per a native Austenite. Eclectic, good good good eats with so much flavor with every bite. I got the smoky chicken breakfast burrito I asked to add spinach and for salsa on the side and it was covered with a cheesy sauce. When I say every bite from potato to spillage of cheese sauce was good; I mean it. Have a look at the pics, again the aesthetic will enhance your taste buds, funny how that works but for and enjoy, you may even have some live music, this is Austin of course. Live it up!!!
