Torchys Tacos is a staple when you visit Texas. I first discovered Torchys over 10 years ago when I used to go to Austin for work, and every time I visited, I made sure to visit this location to have my favorite tacos and queso. The tacos run about $5-6 each, but these are humongous portions, and I normally order max 2, sometimes 3 if I am super hungry. I recommend ordering off of Torchys secret menu. Ask for it when you get to the front counter. Heres what I recommend ordering off the secret menu: * Matador taco - this one has chopped brisket, frilled jalapenos, pickled onions, served with tomatillo over a crispy corn torille inside a flour tortilla. I always get this taco every time I visit. Its my absolute fave. Get it. * Trailer Park Hillbilly Style - this one isnt for everybody because a lot of people dont think fried chicken belongs in a taco. But you should try it regardless - there is chorizo, chopped bacon, green chilies, and poblano ranch served over this one. Its delicious. From the regular menu, the fried avocado taco and the queso are also must-orders. They put a little chorizo with the green chile queso and its so addicting. Come hungry and enjoy these uniquely designed yet delicious tacos from Torchys!

Took my son here last Sunday between 1:30 and 2:30. The food has never let us down. This time, my son ordered a bean and cheese taco while I got the trio of chips and dip. I figured wed sit down and Id contemplate what else Id eat with food on the way. As most locals know, youre brought to the tip screen after ordering food from the counter here. We tipped a few dollars the first time and again when I got back up to order my salmon bowl with rice and beans. Theres definitely not the same warm hospitality as youre greeted with in restaurants with a hostess but Ive taught my son to always take care of the hospitality industry. It feels funny stuffing a few dollars down that tip jar before recieveing any service, especially when theres no common courtesy of thank you or acknowledgement. My son eats his taco as we bounce from queso to guac. Theres maybe three tables inside with guests at them. 15 min goes buy and were just enjoying each others company. 20 min goes by.. closer to 30 goes by and the young lady who took our order sits down for her lunch break to eat. Theres what looks to be a manager standing at the corner of the bar on her phone almost the whole time we were there. I walk up to her and ask excuse me maam, are you a manager here? Yes, why? Well weve been waiting a while and Im not it sure my foods coming out. It was a salmon bowl with beans and.. This is your order right here. [She points to the cold food on the bar counter infront of her.] We were looking for you. Maam no one has stopped by our table. Oh really? Yea its OK. Can I just get a refund? Sure but its going to take two business days [acting annoyed with me]. I paid cash Oh. Follow me. Heres your money back. The manager on her phone for 30 min with almost no one in that store is annoyed with me for waiting for my food and not wanting to eat the cold food she had right infront of her the whole time. No wonder there wasnt any energy or charisma in that place. Sorry to be a bother. My son and i didnt exactly have a blast at your restaurant. Hate to leave one of these, i hope it acts as a friendly reminder to check in on your team and your guests. When a gratuity is expected upfront, the least you can feel as a guest is appreciated. That was not the case at this location.

I heard great things about the tacos at this place. Decided to stop by with a friend ordered six tacos and two drinks. Mind you it was happy hour! I believe the total was about $45 decided to review my receipt and notice I didn t get the happy hour discount at this point in time, I went back up to the register spoke to a lady there who explained she was the supervisor on duty, I pointed out. I did not receive my happy hour discount. The supervisor explained to me that I have to mention the discount. If not, I would not receive the discount . I explained to her that I m a chef in the industry. I know better than that. She refused to refund my Money then offered me a complementary chips and queso that I obviously paid for.

I stopped by for lunch and was immediately greeted by the cashier Stu (Stew?). I havent been to Torchys since before Covid so I had a bunch of questions and he was able to answer all of them. He also made some awesome recommendations of things he liked on the menu. I ended up getting the Ace of Spades and the Mad Cow tacos. They were amazing! Sadly, this place has really gone downhill. Ive lived in Austin for almost nine years and Torchys used to be the best. Now, Im just constantly disappointed. Ive tried going back a few times and sometimes havent even finished my food. The queso is still pretty good, but most of the time the tacos just dont taste good. Im not sure if they just dont season anything anymore or what. They dont even heat up the tacos most of the time! Like the actually tortillas are dry and room temperature! The cheese on them is like someone just pulled it out of one of those Kraft bags and didnt even heat it up or let it melt. I am sadly going to stop going back. Its just not worth it anymore.

While I think Torchys has changed a bit from the days at the food park, it s still one of the top spots in Austin for great tacos. The South Congress location offers indoor and outdoor seating. Orders can be a little slow depending on the crowd, but it s always worth the wait and the prices are really good. Check out the merch while you re there, they have some pretty cool stuff! No way to orders. Systems are shut down, and there is no way to order. Get your stuff together torchys. Its shameful when you Are bringing guests over. Food : 1/5

Every time we have friends and family visit us, we bring them to Torchys! In this pastime, we had 11 of us, and our orders came out quickly. Everyone loved their orders. I got the street corn for the first time, and it was amazing! I have a new favorite for sure! The staff was also always on the move and maintaining a great and clean dining area. Vegetarian options: My daughter is s vegetarian, and there are several items that she loves!

first time here mainly cause Im not really a Mexican food type guy because Im picking on toppings I need to pick off basically everything that makes it Mexican nonetheless they accommodated and meal came as I requested...hot fresh and extremely good!! Highly recommend Parking: parking behind and on the side street of Torchys Kid-friendliness: seen lots of kids there, they seemed (unfortunately) fat but fortunately happy! Wheelchair accessibility: one level and double doors in the front entrance

Amazing breakfast tacos and queso! You honestly cant go wrong, but my favorites are the jalapeño cheddar sausage, egg and cheese and fried avocado. Quick service and great outdoor seating on the SoCo strip.

We had heard a lot of great things about Torchys and they were all true! We stopped by on Friday night and the place was super busy. We ordered the Trailer Park, Tipsy Chick and Baja Shrimp tacos (all flour) and some Street Corn. The order took about 30 mins to arrive but we chalked it up to how busy they were. Once the food arrived it did not disappoint! Firstly the sizes were huge - definitely bigger in Texas! The flavour combos were delicious - and the corn - wow!! Simply could not believe a fast food restaurant could serve such great food. Will definitely stop by again next time we visit Austin!

It was our first time at Torchy s, and we loved it! Came in for the breakfast tacos and they were so yummy. The employee at the register was welcoming while taking our order and when Delia 32 brought our food out, she was very kind and engaging, ensuring our order was correct and talking to us about the area. Always great having welcoming smiles when visiting a a new place and being from out of town. Gracias Delia 32!

Everything is okay at this place. The food is decent but not crazy. The prices are cheap. The place is fine. Its just not a crazy place to go. You can definitely find better tacos in Austin. Just a easy place to go. Find the time to go somewhere else! Youll save some money

Austin tacos do not mess around. I ate here almost 3 times when I last visited. Theres always variety and something new to look forward to. Its not too far from the airport and the tacos themselves are a full meal. Both great seating and staff! And have you seen the inside of the order counter? Its coffin shaped!

Food was great! But customer service needs some work. Manager and cook that brought our food were really nice! But the two cashiers working 4-6-24 at around 3pm were extremely rude and lacked basic customer service skills. One even bumped into me and didn t even say excuse me.
