Old Review: Jims was one of our familys favorite restaurants. Its nothing fancy but they have inexpensive breakfast and American fare that tastes good. The service was always pleasant. I enjoy the chicken fried steak breakfast, while my kids will get pancakes or spaghetti. The burgers and sandwiches are good too. Update: We recently had a problem, which happens, but the manager had no interest in fixing it, which shouldnt happen. Our waiter tried to take our order without a notepad and failed. Then he got a notepad and seemed to have it correct. Then the food came and the order was completely wrong. Not a few things were wrong, we got half the plates we ordered and the plates we did get had errors. When we reluctantly asked for the manager, he basically had a what can I do? attitude and made it clear he wanted us to leave, so we did. We werent charged for the plates we were served and were allowed to take them home. There was another waiter there who seemed competent, if we had been offered to have him serve us, we would have been fine. With that poor of service and a lack of interest in fixing it by management, I can unfortunately no longer recommend this restaurant.

I have enjoyed this restaurant for over 35 years. I enjoyed their migas w/refried beans and hash browns and coffee, my wife a large bowl of tortilla soup. I remember when it was open 24 hours. Parking: Surface lot is large, with disable parking available with ramp to enter restaurant. Wheelchair accessibility: Accessibility has wheel chair ramp to enter and restrooms are also accessible.

The food is always excellent as well as the service. However, I am very concerned for the work environment. We have gone a handful of times in the past couple of months and every single time the staff is complaining about/fighting with the manager. From the multiple times Ive heard more than I should have, it seems obvious that the manager is causing the problems. It would be horrible if something happened to this place because of that person. I really like this location and the waitstaff is excellent.

I absolutely love jims as well as my family. We went to the Austin location where as we live in San Antonio but it was still good. The only thing I didnt like and why I give the service four stars is that when me and my family went in it seemed like nobody wanted to wait on us. We ended up getting a young gentleman who was nice and courteous. He took our order with no problem and was just perfect overall. The food was hot and fast in my family was extremely pleased for we had an hour and 45 minutes ride home. It wasnt packed in there so I expected the food to come out kind of quick but we all got full and we all enjoyed our time I appreciate anyone whos willing to wait on a family of five and I know for a fact because I was a server at one point that most families dont clean up after themselves and make extra messes as well as leaves small tips. I had no problem leaving this dude a good tip because he was excellent. I wish I could remember his name but overall he knows who he is. Overall a great restaurant as well as a great location.

Our server pulled out his vape and used it inside the building, the pricing for add ons is confusing and the amount of food you get vs the price is awful. We ordered a waffle which comes by itself so we got eggs and sausage and it cost as much as its own separate meal. With the tip we paid around $80 for some of the cheapest made food I have ever personally had. I m sure this place is great when it comes to nostalgia for some people but I don t think I will ever come back.

I love the lunch specials. Its a good amount of food for the price. I usually call it in and within 10 minutes Im walking out their door with it. They package it well for transportation and the food is still hot when I arrive home. I would recommend it if you want some quick comfort food at a good price!

Four at our table. Cheese Burger order took three times to get right. My order should have included Toast, but I had to ask for it. Asked twice for Catsup, gave up, went to get a bottle myself. Two of us had our meals while two of us were still waiting. All in all, call it another Chinese Fire Drill. However, clouds do have a silver lining. There ARE other places to dine!

This is similar to Dennys, an old cafe, diner, and the service was great. The chicken fried steak was too tough, but the breakfasts were great. Great place to get a coffee and meet someone for business or pleasure. I will eat here again. The diner is old and could use a coat of paint inside and some new ceiling tile.

I have literally been coming to this location for 30+ years. Usually for breakfast but sometimes for dinner. Of course breakfast is where its at and with that you typically get the A-team when it comes to the staff in the morning. Never any problems in the AM. In the evening it is another story. Its not even the B-team out front but at least the kitchen staff is ok so the food will be decent. Not last night! Our waitress was nice enough but after spending an hour listening to hear yelling at her two young children in the middle of the restaurant we were ready to go. I actually dont have a problem with the kids being there, stuff happens and sometimes child care doesnt work out. The problem was our waitress constantly YELLING across the restaurant for her kids to sit down. Im pretty sure I heard her yell Im not telling you again 20 times in that one hour. On top of this, the entire wait staff seemed to be on their second day with NO training. Any time a new guest came in the staff all got really confused about who was supposed to seat them until our waitress would just holler at the customer to just find a seat and someone would get to them eventually. When our food finally came (mostly breakfast fare) is was good except for the fact it was almost 10 minutes from when the first plate arrived to when we got our last plate. I got the biscuits and gravy and I hear our waitress yell to another waitress and cook that the gravy look too watered down and aint no way hes (me) going to like it. She then proceeded to bring be the watered down biscuits and gravy and it was like water. She told me it was my choice to either take it or she guess she could ask if they will make it again. I say that Im not ok with it and she says well I guess you want to wait. She takes the food back and tells the cook he says it no good and I guess you have to make the whole thing again. All with attitude. Finally get the rest of our food, while kids are almost done eating as they have had a 10 minute head start and we consume our meal listening to the yelling of children for the next twenty minutes. We finish our meal and patiently wait for our ticket - at least another 10 minutes of yelling. No check ever comes so we go up to the front to pay. Our waitress finally finds our check, $56 something to which I give her $70 cash. She then gives me two $5 and some change. It takes me a second but I realize I did not receive the correct change. I go back to the front and ask her about it and she says No way its wrong, its a computer it aint wrong. I find our ticket and show her it was $56 something and she says ya and you gave me $70 so whats the problem? I say $70 minus $56 doesnt equal $10. She says well I dont know what to tell you, thats what the computer said so it is what it is. She pulls out her phone and essentially threatens me that she has a calculator and she is going to show me how wrong I am. She then says she will have to get the manager?!?!?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME! All of this craziness has been going on for the last hour and there is actually a manager on duty who is OK with all of this? No manager comes and we finally get the correct change and leave. As we are walking to our car I walk to the back of the restaurant as we noticed several times that the staff would mention the manager and then walk out the back door. There sitting in a black truck with the door open is what I can only assume is the manager in his red Jims shirt smoking a cigarette. Probably just hanging out back so he doesnt have to listen to all the yelling!

Dietary restrictions: On a carnivore diet and the steak breakfast was perfect! 10 oz ribeye, two eggs and substitute cottage cheese instead of the sides that come with it. For the price its absolutely fantastic! We definitely will be making this a regular for the family!

Jims hasnt changed much in 30 years and thats a great thing. Still the down-home and friendly feel of a grwt small town diner. I think every time Ive gone, Kim has been my server, and you couldnt ask for a friendlier and more efficient one! Always quick with a coffee refill or whatever else you need, and some truly nice and friendly conversation. The food is always excellent and come out before you know it. Best breakfast place around!

Been coming to this Jims location for more than a decade. Oscar has always run a tight ship. If his staff is busy, he picks up the slack. He leads by example, consistently attentive. I came in for breakfast and sat down to eat, as well as placed an order of 6 different tacos to go. As busy as Oscar was, he still took the time to place each order of tacos into a paper bag, with a handwritten label of contents. Almost made me cry with that last step. Everyone knows how frustrating it is to open a taco, to see the contents, then to pass them around. 5 star service for Oscar. 5 star rated food. 5 star rated for the environment. Keep smiling and keep shining, Oscar.

I came in expecting this location to be just as good as the other 2 Austin locations. It was not the case! Our waitress was scattered throughout the restaurant so she wasn t as focused, even with it being slow at the time. So when our food finally arrived they had given my daughter a burnt burger! And when I finally was able flag down the waitress she told the cooks we just didn t like it! Excuse me? No it s inedible! So I asked for chicken strips Togo. Side note she even forgot to bring out our pie so that was also annoying. The Togo order took forever and the cooks on purpose gave us strips in catfish batter! The waitress was even asking them is this even chicken? It looked like fish! So I was ready to leave at this point. But it doesn t end. At checkout she doesn t address what I m getting charged for! Takes my card and doesn t give me a receipt! So I don t even know if she took off the returned burnt burger! So I won t be coming back to any Jim s for that reason. Don t come to these dyeing restaurants your better off at Denny s or IHOP

I order chili burger and I did not received what I order. The mgr Gary T came out and told me it was several times and told prices went up so they get their chili from a different company but that was chili on my burger then turn around and shuffled off. Felt unhappy when dining- in with those small flies that keep flying around our table while eating the food. We didn t finished eating the food because the flies touched our food and it s really gross but we still have to pay for it and looks like our fault lol. Then, our waitress Kim was kinda rude and making some joke that wasn t funny at all.

Absolutely horrible! Waitress never came back to check on us after bringing the food. She was too occupied with her personal issues. Never refilled drinks, my shrimp was raw on the inside. She never even brought the check we had to go to the register to get it. And then comes the gnats..... Only eat here if you plan on getting bothered and sharing your food with gnats. So gross! Health department needs to shut them down. I definitely will not be back.

They make the best chicken salad hands down. There breakfast is always top notch. The prices are beyond reasonable. The waitresses and waiters here are very friendly and could compete and win against any 5 star expensive restaurant.

I called in an order 11/19 around 12:00. There s an old woman who works the front register who had the most disgusting attitude. I waited over 30 minutes as my food sat on the counter while she checked out everyone and continued to ignore me standing directly in front of her. My soda had melted and the food was lukewarm at best. I will never come back and will steer everyone away from this place. Its a shame because this place used to be so good.

I ve been coming to this Jim s for over 20 years. Friendly staff and good food. We used to sit in the corner booth after late night MTG tournaments and chat it up until the we hours of the morning.

The service here was awful. They forgot they sat us down and never came back to serve us and when they did come by they took for ever to bring our drinks. When out food got to the table they didnt bring everything we ask for and never did bring it. The service here sucks and I rather prefer the one in South Austin. Never again will I go to this one. Dont go or you will be upset too, trust me

Had grilled pork chops covered with onions & mushrooms, eggs over easy and extra crispy hash browns for breakfast with hot tea. It was VERY GOOD, served quickly by a friendly attentive server. Jims is a good place to go any time of day.

Jim s is always an all star experience. Whether it is breakfast, lunch, or dinner, Jim s hits the spot every time. We ve enjoyed their breakfast, omelettes and pancakes for years and years now. Their lunch menu occasionally carries seasonal items and their dinner menu, includes got some pretty good steaks and chops on it. For dessert, we never look any further than the strawberry pie. It is just absolutely delicious and made with spread strawberries. Who doesn t love that? We ve been fans for over 40 years now, and will continue on as long as Jim can feed us.
