Great bbq. Dont even need any sauce. IYKYK. The food is seasoned and flavorful. The brisket was juicy and the ribs were tender and seasoned well. You can smellthe aroma outside. I personally dont want bbq of I cant smell it outside. This place did not disappoint.

This place is the bomb! We had the brisket, chicken and the ribs all were tender and flavorful!!! The sides of smoked mac n cheese and the smoked cabbage was to die for!! We topped off the meal with the sweet potato corn bread! Oh my gosh... fantastic! The service and atmosphere was like sitting in your best friends home! A must do if your in Waco!

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!! Oh my goodness!!!!! This is the BEST place for BBQ!!! Service is friendly family owned and run! All other bbq places will SUFFER by comparison. Papa jacks has welcoming and friendly staff . Unfortunately after I ate here I immediately fell sick . Throwing up constantly. Doctor said food poisoning, that was only thing I ate that day . I hope in the future they can enforce Food safety regulations and proper sanitation. Also the Mac and cheese had no cheese as if they ran out of ingredients. Sweet potatoes tasted horrible. I will not be returning.

Run, don t walk! Everything was absolutely fantastic. Service was too notch- friendly and fast! We had Chicken, ribs, brisket and sausage with collard greens, smoked cabbage, smoked Mac and cheese and sweet potato casserole. I m positive they don t serve a single bad dish. We were given a piece of sweet potato cornbread fresh from the oven that was better than dessert but there are also homemade pies available to order. There is even a little library for kids to take a free book. 10/10!!!

THIS is the real-deal! Home cooking at its finest. The brisket is off the hook, the atmosphere is pure and authentic. Most of all, the owners are super friendly and welcoming. My son is a student at Baylor, and without knowing him personally, they welcomed him to the Waco community with open arms (literally). I wish I could give more than 5 stars!!

Went with my Mom for lunch today. I have been dying to go since a gentleman from Ohio told me how good it was. Both my Mom and I decided that this truly is our new BBQ spot. We have been driving to west for years and end up disappointed. The fact this is just down the road and the food is soo dang good. The ribs were amazing the sausage was delicious and the sweet potato cornbread was ridiculous period. The sauce was just liquid gold for sure!

Dont let the unassuming front fool you - Papa Jacks is making some DAMN good bbq! Ribs and brisket were as good as you could ask for anywhere in Texas, and the sides were just as good. I walked in with wife and three kids and they treated us like family, offered samples of just about everything on the menu, and made sure we left with dessert. Easily the best barbecue in Waco, and I ve tried seven other establishments. A generous, kind, family-run business that feeds the homeless at the end of the week, and treats you like family when you come. They remember faces and want to catch up with you each time. As for the FOOD, well what can I say? Ribs and brisket that you don t need teeth to eat, one of my favorite sauces ever, and solid links and chicken too. I ve had almost every dessert on the menu and they ve all been killer. They even throw in special items every once in a while, so be sure to ask! Lastly, the atmosphere is cozy and fun! Their corkboard map has pins from visitors around the world! Seriously: every continent, remote South Pacific islands, etc. Waco s small enough that it s under the radar in media, but come here, and locals will point you here! Final word: be aware that there s limited seating. It s usually worth it to call in advance or be ready to get it as takeout. You won t be disappointed!!

This small family run place is well worth finding! Were from out of town and didnt want fast food. Im thankful we found Papa Jacks BBQ! Theres a sign in the window that says BBQ so good....youll eat the meat, suck the bone, call your mama and tell her Im coming home! Thats exactly what we did! We had the ribs and brisket, both meats were soo tender and well seasoned! We also, had the greens, mac & cheese, cabbage, sweet potato casserole, and sweet potato corn bread. The serving sizes were bigger then I expected for the price. Dessert: buttermilk pecan pie and buttermilk pie. All of it....soo good! Service was great. When we walked in the door, we felt the feel of family, by all the pictures in the enterance. The young lady that took our order was very sweet and friendly. The owners were super friendly, they made our visit that much more enjoyable. As first time visitors, they blessed us with extra food to try out. By the time we left, I felt like we had made new friends! If we lived here in the area, this would definitely be a place I would frequent often! Unassuming restaurant front. A hidden gem inside. Wow, prepare to have the best barbeque youve ever eaten. The ribs fall off the bone. The brisket is tender, flavorful and moist. The links flavorful, delicious. And and the chicken seasoned well and the skin incredible. Portions are big, and prices very reasonable. Expect to come back for the sides. Service is excellent. I came here because of the reviews and my experience definitely lived up to them. This place has the BEST barbecue I ve ever had. I got to try the brisket, ribs, oxtail, and links. The brisket was so juicy. The ribs literally fell off the bone with zero effort. I ve never had oxtail before, so this place set the standard high on what oxtail should taste like. I ve never had links like this before either, but they were so delicious. The desserts here blew me away as well. The key lime pie had the perfect amount of sweetness. The peach cobbler filling had a hint of cinnamon in it that made it taste all the more comforting. The people here were also so nice and gave excellent service.

I went here with family driving back home to Louisiana. Everything was so good! My personal favorites were: Cabbage!!! Sweet potato casserole Chicken Ribs Sweet potato cornbread I was obsessed with the cabbage and wanted to eat a whole bowl. Got a half piece of cabbage to go! We found this spot on Google while driving through Waco towards DFW. It was fantastic. The owners are so kind. The food was fantastic - greens, brisket, potato salad, sweet potato cornbread. All great. And it was towards the end of their day so they gave us extra food including some ox tails that I cant wait to try tonight. We only paid $34 for the three brisket sandwich combos we ordered and they have us so much food that I left a $35 tip and I still feel like I got a great deal. I will never pass through Waco again without visiting. And I may make a day trip to try her first Sunday meal. Must stop!!

Easiest review Ill write all year. This restaurant is the epitome of southern hospitality. From the minute we entered we knew what we were in for, the service was outstanding from start to finish. We came in at 3 pm so it wasnt busy at all, its a small restaurant though, so it appears more ideal for take out dining. Nevertheless its all worth it. Between my wife and I we shared a 3 meat plate, which comes with 2 sides. We went with chicken, ribs, and brisket with the macaroni and cheese and sweet potato casserole. Also had to try a side of smoked cabbage. For dessert we ordered the banana pudding, the buttermilk pecan pie and the peach cobbler. Meats were cooked to perfection and sides were perfect. Ive never had a better piece of bbq chicken and the brisket is world class. Ribs were fall off the bone good and the sauce was a perfect balance of sweet and spicy. Desserts were also awesome, my favorite was the banana pudding. All portions in this order were generous and more than enough for 2 people to leave satisfied. We ate every bit of it. We stopped at Papa Jacks BBQ after visiting Waco during our first Texas holiday. It was a great choice! We liked this friendly people and the food was wonderful! The brisket was outstanding - the juiciest we ever had! We also liked the sausage, smoked chicken, potatoe salad and smoked cabbage. The smoked mac n cheese and sweet potatoe casserole were incomparably delicious. Wonderful hidden gem in Waco. In my opinion, it s as good as Helberg or Guess, two Texas top 50 contenders. The meat was on par with those two giants for sure, the sides were even better at Poppa Jacks, and the service and personal interactions with the owners were second to none. Wonderful time. I am also gluten free, and the owner s personally walked me through the menu to determine what I could safely eat and what I should stay away from. I plan to bring my business partners from Kansas to check it out, especially because Poppa Jacks has some excellent sweet sauces to compliment the meat if you are a sauce person. The juices a delightful treat like the cabbage. I thought I was just getting a quick to go order for some quick grub getting some business done in the Waco area... Instead I just found my favorite BBQ stop in Texas, and Ive dined from Southside and Blacks BBQ in Elgin to Franklins in Austin Schoeps and Johnnies in Belton and Salado.. Oh.. And their BBQ sauce.. Never tasted a sauce like that.. Utterly amazing. Not that the meat needed anything.. If you do nothing else but stop by Papa Jacks while in the area, its still a trip that was worthwhile.

We were looking for good bbq while visiting Waco. We found it at Papa Jack s! Excellent selection of meats with the best collard greens I have ever tasted! They are only open to the public Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 11 to 3. They have a homemade bbq sauce that is awesome and free in house made pies. Waco bbq standards must be pretty low when microwaved brisked gets praise . One of the worst bbq Ive had in TX. Shouldve known it wasnt going to be good when their not slicing brisket right in from of you like normal bbq places. We were visiting Waco from Oklahoma. Went here for dinner. The ribs, chicken, and brisket are ALL equally excellent! The sweet potato casserole, potato salad, and Mac and cheese sides were all also very good! The owners are a husband and wife team. They could not be more welcoming or kinder. WOW. We knew this place was supposed to be good and we were still blown away! The meats are wonderful and the sides are out of this world. The mac and cheese was the best I ve ever had and the smoked cabbage was so freakin amazing. The owners and family were welcoming and funny. We just experienced Papa Jacks for the first time, and it was exceptional food! The smoked Cabbage is delicious and super tender, the pinto beans are seasoned well and the best beans I ve ever had. The smoked Mac&Cheese was cheesy and incredibly seasoned, the sausage link (not pictured) was juicy and plump, the lean brisket was tender moist and all around delicious. But for me the star of the show was the ribs. The ribs were excellent they had a delicious bark on them, and the bone was clean because the meat just fell right off! The service was fast, and everyone was incredibly friendly, even though they were extremely busy! Hands down a place you have to try in Waco! Best BBQ Waco has to offer! Ps. When we walked into the restaurant we were informed that the person in front of us had purchased the last of the brisket (a dish you have to try).
