We were looking for a place to eat for lunch and saw Asians in this restaurant. So we decided to try it out. It didn t disappoint. The staff hardly spoke English. The decor is simple. They have self-serve water, tea, hot sauce, and utensils. The menu is both in English and Chinese. You can now pay by credit card. One of their menu has pictures. We ordered beef noodle soup, lamb (so tender) soup, pan-fried pork dumplings, chicken lo mein, and spicy wonton. All of them were delicious. We will definitely go back and try their other items.

The taste is ok. The mutton soup I ordered, half of the mutton soup was filled with vermicelli. . . I have never eaten mutton soup with vermicelli. Can I ask if vermicelli is added to the mutton soup? Thats not called mutton soup, its mutton stewed with vermicelli.

Growing up, our family has always dined here since its opening, drawn by the owners warm hospitality. We particularly love their beef noodle soup and the whole lamb leg noodle soup. Recently, weve also become fans of their traditional North Side Chinese breakfast, adding a new layer of enjoyment to our familys dining tradition.

Came here for brunch, and found a hair in the soup noodles(didn t think of leaving a comment at the end so didn t take a picture of it). The lady came over and touched the soup and the noodles with her hand and said it s an eyelash. Asked them to get a new one but they switched the bowl and gave us the same thing back. Food is really delicious but not happy with the how the handled the situation.

I ordered kebabs, pork and cabbage dumplings, plus a leek box and three side dishes. The waiting time was more than half an hour. They came in behind me and all the food was finished, but my takeout was not ready yet. I ordered boiled dumplings. When I went in, I was told by the front desk that the dumpling wrappers were so thin that they were torn. I made fried dumplings for you. I thought about it. When I got home, I saw that the mutton skewers were burnt and I wrapped them up. The customer couldn t help but post this. Can you bake it like this and give it to the customers? Will you guys eat it yourself? This is my first Google review and I m really angry

Old Place Cafe has been a favorite restaurant of mine for years. They are a soup and a dumpling house along with some other specialties. The business is not very fancy inside and the seating is small tables and wooden benches. The food is sensational, is reasonably priced, and is made to order. The food is not Americanized and I enjoy that.

--- NK Score = 6.0/10 --- 7/10 = Furniture/Ambience 5/10 = Food Quality 7/10 = Service 8/10 = Price (Other Ratings N/A) _____________________________________________ =( BASIC INFO )= - Small, Casual Restaurant - Below Average Food - Variety: Chinese (Snack, Rice, Noodle) - Prices: Cheap ( $4.00 - $6.00 ) - CASH ONLY: No Credit Cards! _____________________________________________ = Atmosphere = Casual interior with a few decorations and a rather simple old-fashioned look. The ambience here is pretty calm, theres not many customers even during the dinner hours. Overall an average environment. _____________________________________________ = Food Quality = --- Dan Dan Noodle ($4.50): 3/5 --- Somewhat savory and tasty noodles, the minced pork and its sauce is lightly flavored, slightly salty, and not very spicy. Pretty average for a $5 bowl of noodles, the flavors werent really extraordinary in anyway, but the price + portion makes this pretty fair. --- Spicy Szechuan Noodle ($5.50): 2/5 --- When you think of Szechuan, you may think spicy, but what youre really thinking of is a flavorful spicy... which in this case is not true. This dish is the opposite of flavorful, its flavorless! Lol, its spicy alright, but thats basically all there is to it, maybe a tad bit of intestine flavor, but that isnt what Id look for in a Szechuan style dish. Either way, this dish was quite underwhelming in terms of flavor, but the price is good. --- Spicy Wonton ($4.50): 1/5 --- Ok, so the sauce in this is actually quite good, a nice flavorful spicy, but theres a huge problem as well. The wonton skin they use in this dish is extremely thick and unsatisfying, not only is it starchy and flour-like, it is also 85% of the entire dish! Yes, there is only a puny piece of pork inside, and not only is it tiny, it was RAW! Straight up undercooked and had a stench to it, extremely unpleasant meal to finish when stuff like this happens. Other than that, Id rate this dish as bad even if it was cooked correctly, cause the consistency is just awful all around, besides the sauce I suppose. _____________________________________________ = Price / Service = Prices here are rather inexpensive. Service is okay, nothing out of the ordinary. _____________________________________________ Miscellaneous (Other): - Self Serve Condiments - Very Situational Food - CASH ONLY! Been to so many Chinese traditional Sichuan cuisine in Bellaire but none are as friendly and as delicious as this small old place in Sugar Land. I recommend the spicy beef noodles, the pork or steamed vegetable dumplings, and the Szechuan noodles. For those that think the noodle soup is bland, it is a traditional homemade style so you can and should add soy sauce and hot sauces they provide free. Also, to the reviewer below, they started accepting cards.

The price is cheap, the boss is friendly, the menu is diverse, free millet porridge, free garlic, the noodles are a bit bad, the environment is simple, you can watch TV, I like braised pork bibimbap, and pork or chicken fried rice are both good For choice, the pig ears in the refrigerator side dishes are not greasy and are cooked in aspic, which is very flavorful. If you just want to eat a simple rice noodle, you can consider it.

Pros: dumplings Cons: noodle soup not so great. Their cabbage pork dumplings are something to be excited about. Fills you up, great low price and the design- your- own- sauce bar is perfect for dumpling lovers. Now about the noodle soup. The broth is bland. Theres a hearty amount of sustenance but no flavor. Unacceptable. Dumplings really boosted the score here.
