The ambience inside the restaurant is not bad. However the KOI pond can be a little smelly as it is too small yet overcrowded with fish that can splash water on you as you pass through. The service is not bad but it can be a little slow. We have to flag the waiters several times. The dim sum is not bad but not extraordinary. Har Gao 3/5 Skin was too thick Shrimp & Chives Dumpling 3.5/5 Skin was thick but plenty of chives in the filling Turnip with XO sauce 3.5/5 Not bad but abit oily for me Red Bean Sesame Ball 4/5 Not bad Shrimp Siu Mai 5/5 Great Garlic Snow Pea Leaves 4/5 Great (oily even though we asked for less oil) BBQ pork bun 4/5 Not bad (I thought it s the black BBQ but turns out still the red ones) I noticed that a lot of people ordered the rice roll which I heard was made fresh to order. I d like to try it next time, as well as the bean curd roll and the steamed fish that seems to be limited to 10 order per day.

when kim son fountain closed a few months prior we found this location to have amazing dim sum. we had dinner at tasty before and came back yesterday wanting dim sum and found out the name changed to tasty because they are new owner and not the same as when we had the dim sum the first time after kim son closed . dim sum here not near the same quality and selection. dinner entree seems to have strong oil maybe old oil or a different kind of oil. we felt very bloated afterwards . peking duck they didnt have the thin flat flour tortillas like for wrappings as mentioned on the menu . they have the thick bao . we asked them for whats on the menu but they said they ran out. we asked how come we werent told before we ordered and this was the main reason my wife wanted to having peking duck there as she didnt like the bao . they kept on ignoring the question and said they will talk to the mgr : they came back with dessert to say sorry but we didnt eat the dessert either because it was not good . we thought about sending it back but agreed to let it go and not come back for dinner . then tried dim sum again and it was disappointing also . sorry but not impressed .

Update [Sep 2024]: This place was called New Palace during my last October visit. Now its Tasty, I asked the manager and she said the owner is changed and part of the staff were changed. The food is still good with much (or no) MSG. [October 2023] Nice chinese restaurant. The server gave us good recommendations for dishes, we all enjoy those 6 dishes. Each dish has large portion for 4 of us. We will come visit again for sure!

Charge for green tea? Also brought out appetizer after main meal. Attentive staff, but poor command of English. Tables covered in a nicely patterned disposable plastic film. Problem is there is a stack of 10+ sheets on the table. Makes it easy for them to turn tables I guess, but films are thick and rest against your leg. I was wearing shorts and it was uncomfortable and HOT against my skin. Server brings a tablet for you to pay at tableside. Tips icon starts out at 20%.

Very beautiful restaurant. Used to be China Bear which was the best buffet in town. Now the inside has been renovated. Kitchen service was slow. Brought out dishes one at a time. The food was dry. Seems precooked and warmed. The Peking was deboned and you received maybe a quarter of the actual duck. Taste was not on point. I think their sign says a lot about what type of food they have.

I generally dont do reviews much, however this time Ill make an exception. I usually have an iron stomach and can eat almost everything, however had probably the worst dim sum dining experience that I could recall. We had been going to the place ever since it was originally China Bear and then New Palace. Food was always good. We went over the weekend to check out the place after it changed owners and was renamed Tasty to give it a try. Ordered some basic dim sum classic: Har Gao, shu mai, tofu skins, BBQ Cheung fun. Har Gao and Tofu skins were decent and nothing special BBQ Cheung fun had too many BBQ fillings that appeared to be pork, however couldnt really tell. Shu mai: The taste and texture was off. Wife told me not to eat it, (BIG MISTAKE on my part) however I thought it was just the seasoning and spices they used. Turns out afterward that the meat was spoiled/not clean and they used seasoning to cover it up. Ended up spending a good amount of time later on in the restroom. Thank goodness the kids didnt eat it. Also ordered 3 dishes. Dishes were so-so and not all special, General tastes of all seems to be the same flavor and seasoning. Fried pot-sticker skins were too thick to enjoy. Fried pumpkin slices were a good portion, however way too greasy. Crispy salt and pepper fish fillets werent exactly as it appeared on the picture menu. On top of that the bill at the end was over $75.00 not including 18% gratuity. Needless to say, I will not be going back again. Dishes were way pricey, mediocre service, similar flavors in cooking

Had a great time at Tasty Seafood & Dim Sum this morning. Arrived at around 11:15 am and the place was already busy! I ordered dim sum only today and the food was served very quickly. The pricing was reasonable and I really enjoyed the sesame balls. The koi fish feeding was definitely a highlight! Don t forget to ask for fish food when you get to the front desk :) :) Parking: The parking lot is conveniently located in front of the restaurant with plenty of space. Kid-friendliness: I didn t have any kinds of my own but all the kids there were accommodating well with high chairs. Wheelchair accessibility: Designated parking space located right next to the main entrance with ramps for wheelchair access.

Confused about the New Palace or the current name. Most of the dim sum tastes great. We were heading for lunch with reservation for 5-6 people, and ordered in advance. Confirmed to get ready before we arrived, however, they called us at 11:15am and still asked us to make a call when we are heading around 11:45am?? In fact, when we arrived, still waiting for getting food ready around 35 mins. It s meaningless for the reservation. Not crowded at all during weekdays. Or you could directly tell us no reservations, so we could decide to take out or dine in. Willing to pay the 18% tips for service but not for the reservation fee what they forced (eventually 4 people went)

I ve been here before but under a different name. I didn t remember much last time so I wanted to try it again. 1. Turnip cake: It was too gummy. Texture was wrong although taste was okay. I didn t like it. 2. Chicken feet: Flavor was good but feet was tough. It wasn t cooked tender enough. 3. Beef tripe: I liked the flavor but tripe was a little tough. 4. Shrimp rice roll: this was good as well as the sauce. 5. bean curd roll: This was good as well. 6. Siu Mai was decent although not my favorite. 7. Pork ribs were good. Overall it was okay. If I was in the area I would come for dim sum.

Highlighting Guangdongs Show-Stopping Dish Pipa Duck Ive already enjoyed Pipa Duck twice at Tasty Seafood & dim sum House, and this new Seafood Restaurant boasts several must-try signature dishes that never disappoint. Pipa Duck stands out with its crispy skin, well-marinated meat, and unique flavor. The golden exterior and tender interior offer a multi-layered taste experience that lingers on the palate, making it an all-time favorite. **Steamed Duo Fresh with Chopped Chili Peppers** is an excellent value dish. It comes in a grand pirate ship presentation, with a rich chopped chili flavor that is perfect for a refreshing and healthy summer meal. The flavorful vermicelli at the bottom of the dish becomes a crowd favorite. **Crispy Milk and Shrimp with Walnut Sauce** is a unique dish highly recommended by friends. It combines the elements of walnut shrimp and crispy milk, creating a delightful fusion. However, this dish requires advance reservation as it is not on the regular menu due to its complex preparation. As a kid at heart, I absolutely love it. Its a dish that pleases both young and old. **Teochew Marinated Platter** is a must for gatherings, offering a variety of items that make for a delightful appetizer experience before the main courses arrive. **Steamed Orchid Crab**, a special Fathers Day offering, is impressively presented, making it a standout dish. The crab is rich in roe and delicious, definitely worth savoring. Typhoon Shelter Shrimp Dumplings are astonishing. The crispy skin is reminiscent of rice crackers, and the chewy texture makes it an instant favorite. Overall, great place to have dim sum , great for large family gatherings and friends parties. Highly recommended

But every other table and family had them , and as soon as we got our food they stood there next to our table watching us almost the whole time , and even watching us through the glass little window but no one else was getting watched as they ate? , when we got the check again just staring at us as if we werent gonna pay and just looking at us weird the whole time . It was a very uncomfortable . Would not recommend coming here if ur any other race then asian, Chinese.

Long time customer, became a bit disappointed at the quality and taste of the restaurant in the last few years and went less and less frequently. This time I saw that a new management sign was posted and got really worried that the restaurant might have finally given up the ghost. I was incredibly surprised to find that the food quality and the restaurant as a whole has gotten much better, the fried goods are actually crispy and delicious this time around, the soups are rich and hot when they get to the table, food actually gets delivered in 10 minutes instead of like half and hour or more. Even more surprised that the price has actually remained the same! Definitely worth going to now

It took about 30 minutes for our first two dim sum dishes to come and we were still waiting on about 5 more. Another 20 minutes, we decided we no longer wanted to wait so, I told the server to cancel whatever we had left, she then took the receipt and came back with all of the dishes missing. But at this point, we no longer wanted to eat. Granted it was Mother s Day, but it should not have taken that long. The food was good so I ll give it another chance.

Well, good bye to a good Dim Sum place. I was a bit surprised of light the traffic was when we went today (5/4/2024) compared to the prior visits. Saw that they have push cart for Dim Sum, I thought cool, they made some changes. We were told they are under new management. Well, it went down hill from there. The items from the push carts are mostly cold. Note to the new management, cold shumai, shrimp dumplings, chicken feet, pork ribs, etc. completely ruined the dishes. Ordered some other dishes from the kitchen, well, they are either cold or barely acceptable. A very disappointing meal. We ordered much less than we usually would, but it cost about 20-25% more than our usual bill, so I am suspecting the new management also increased the prices. Service was good though.

PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU GO!! They just changed owners a couple days ago. The Dim Sum we paid for $3.99 last week now costs $5.49. We noticed the price and name change and still decided to give it a try, as we are regular customers. One dish we ordered was the Shanghai Soup Dumplings. The menu showed that it comes with 8 pieces. The order we received only came with 4 pieces. When we asked about it, the owner claimed that the picture on the menu only shows you what the dim sum looks like, and that they have the final say in deciding the amount they want to give you. Seriously?! Huge raise of price is justifiable if the food tastes exceptional; however, most dim sums we ordered tasted significantly worse than before. Immensely disappointed... We used to go there at least once a week, wont go back anymore.

So since it said it was a seafood restaurant we decided we would like to have some snow crabs and went into visit to see if they had some and to our disappointment they didnt have any at the time. So we were unable to sit and dine because that is what we really wanted. I gave it the rating that I did because we actually didnt dine and there was no atmosphere to observe since we werent there very long and didnt see any customers inside.

One thing to know about Cantonese style food is that it s quite mildly seasoned, but the texture of the food is like art; so creative and fun. From melt-in-your-mouth dumplings, to thick hearty soup, to hot and crispy, every dish here was perfect. We got noodles, dim sum, dessert, and hot tea. If you have a palate more inclined to strong flavors, put some chili oil(it s not spicy here) and soy sauce together in your plate and mix it. It makes a yummy dipping sauce. You can even add vinegar. It was my Hispanic husband s first time trying dim sum, along with my mother s. It was nice being able to enjoy more adventurous dishes like veggies wrapped in tofu-skin and shrimp-stuffed eggplant(my personal favorite). It was also nice being able to order more familiar dishes for the newbies like pepper steak and stir-fried noodles. The service was very friendly. I got to practice my mandarin with one server, and my college-beginner-class Vietnamese with another server. All the servers were smily and pleasant. They weren t slow, but also weren t rushing. You can ask for free fish food for the koi fish outside; it will make you giggle watching the fish all open their mouths and swim over eachother for a bite haha.

Second time here and service was a bit slow and we had to ask multiple times for an extra chair and water. Food is good and atmosphere is great! The koi fish in front is fun to watch and feed as well. Be aware not to park in the next door hooters parking lot or you ll get towed.

It s a popular dim sum destination so expect some wait. We waited in the line and were seated quickly as we were only group of two. The decor of the restaurant was on the nicer side of the dim sum places. We ordered lunch special of sesame chicken, and it came with an egg roll, a crab ration, and soup of choice, we got wonton soup. It was delicious and great value. We also got some dim sum items. I was looking forward to trying but they ran out. So that was a disappointment. The restaurant is not loud and noisy compared other regular dim sum establishments. Huge bonus!

The decoration of the restaurant is very exquisite and luxurious. The interior of the restaurant is very large. There are many tables and there is no need to wait for a table. The waiter has a very good attitude and takes good care of the children throughout the whole process. It is a very good dining experience. Chinese-style southern morning tea. Each dish is very small. , the price is not expensive, you can order many dishes for one meal, and there are many varieties. Suitable for small gatherings, we recommend rice rolls, pineapple buns and chicken feet.

Sadness. Came with a large family group to a graduation party. Good times and good food. Came by myself again. Not given anything but tea after 55 minutes. I even had to walk up to another table that was being served to give my order. Other folks (all Chinese) were all served and even left full. We are active family members of a Chinese family but not ethnically Chinese. Cant help but think there is serious racial bias at this restaruant.

New Palace has been my trusted destination for indulging in the delightful world of Dim Sum in Houston. The allure of this restaurant lies in their ability to craft Dim Sum dishes that align perfectly with my taste. From classic dumplings to steamed buns, each dish is made to perfection, showcasing authentic flavors and skillful preparation. However, the experience here is a tale of two halves when it comes to service. On one hand, some of the staff are notably good and exude politeness, enhancing the dining experience. On the flip side, there have been instances where the service experience was less than satisfactory, leaving a mixed feeling about the overall service quality. One unique aspect that adds charm to New Palace is the opportunity to feed the fish in the pond situated in front of the restaurant. This adds an element of entertainment and interaction to your visit, making it an ideal place to bring family or friends. The experience of feeding the fish can be particularly enjoyable for children, as it adds an element of fun to the dining outing. Absolutely, your suggestion has been incorporated: New Palace has the potential to ascend to even greater heights, and the key to achieving this lies in its service quality. To truly set itself apart, the restaurant should prioritize consistent, top-notch service. This involves investing in comprehensive staff training to ensure that every team member excels at providing exceptional service. When the staff is well-trained and attentive, it can enhance the overall dining experience, making New Palace an unrivaled destination for Dim Sum enthusiasts.

Someone suggested that I give the dim sum at New Palace a try. On a recent Friday afternoon, I went with two others to check it out. The place was easy to find. There was a decent amount of parking. The restaurant used to be an Asian buffet. There were plenty of tables, booths and private rooms. We were allowed to select a quiet and comfortable booth. The menu is quite extensive. Aside from all the usual dim sum items, New Palace also has daily lunch specials which come with an egg-roll and soup of choice. In the evenings, a dinner menu is available. We ordered a variety of dim sum since that was what we came for. We got Shrimp Xiu Mai ($5.95), Chicken Feet with Bean Sauce ($4.95), Beef Rice Roll ($5.95), Dry Shrimp Rice Roll ($5.95),Shrimp Ha Gow ($5.95), Pork Ribs with Bean Sauce ($4.95), Crispy Shrimp Rice Roll ($7.95), Fried Potato Puff ($4.95), Egg Custard ($4.95), Crystal Shrimp & Chives Dumplings ($5.95), Mango Pudding ($3.95) for dessert and we brought home half of a Crispy Roast Duck ($19.95). All three of the rice rolls were very good. It seemed like the rolls were freshly made to order. The Egg Custard was probably the best item out of everything we ordered. It was warm and flaky like it is supposed to be. The wrappers on the Ha Gow and Crystal Shrimp & Chives dumpling were a bit thick. The Shrimp Xiu Mai was packed with a good portion of diced up shrimp. The Chicken Feet and Pork Ribs were very heavily spiced. A bit too much cornstarch was added to the Chicken Feet making it very gooey. The half duck that we brought home for dinner was just okay. Nothing special. Overall, it was an average meal. I would give New Palace another try but it definitely is not my first choice the next time I am craving dim sum.

Pretty good dim sum joint just off of US-59 and a bit away from the main Chinatown area of Bellaire Blvd. The dim sum selection is nice and in my opinion, tastes much better than most of the dim sum places in Houston. Take one of my favorite dim sum dishes for example, the fried taro puff. It came out hot and fresh, with a crunchy outer skin, with a soft taro layer, stuffed with savory pork all seasoned to perfection. The meat to taro ratio is nice as well. I just wish it was a wee bit bigger though, but delish. The Ha Gow is also good; soft thin rice flour wrapping, with excellent textured shrimp fillings. And its partner in crime, the pork siu mai, is also delicious. The meat is not overly mixed with pork fat fillers like other places, and you can really taste the pork flavor. The service can be a hit or miss though, and can be fairly bad even when they are not busy. They have missed entering our food selections a few times, and when asked, the question gets tossed between various staff members. In the end we decided to have them cancel the missing items from our check. Thats a big shame considering the food is delicious. The restaurant is also very warm, their AC system is definitely not up to the task when we visited them last.

This was our third time dining at New Palace and service has always been so-so, but our recent visit was absolutely appalling. After being seated we gave our server our drink order and he did not return for some time, so we flagged down another server to inquire and the drinks arrived shortly thereafter. Our server finally returned with plates, rather than set them down for us he literally tossed them at us like frisbees across the lazy susan and walked away. We jotted down our dim-sum order and again our server did not return, so we gave our order to another server. At the end of our meal my husband went to the cashier to pay, as he approached the cashier she held up her finger to pause him for a moment and proceeded to spit out a bone from her mouth on a napkin next to the register. We dont expect much in term of service on a busy weekend for dim-sum, but the service here is ridiculous to say the least. Save your self the frustration and enjoy a nice dim-sum meal across the street at Kim Son, weve gone there 20+ years and have never experienced anything close to the subpar service at New Palace.

The front desk also has fish food for the kids to feed the carps outside for free, which is nice for the kiddos.

Decided to try the dimsum after reading the reviews. Pretty disappointed with the taste, service wasnt rushed but instead it was pretty slow. Hot tea was charged per cup... Only dish I liked were the chicken feet and sticky rice. The rest of the food werent bland but over seasoned, horrible strong taste. Worse dimsum I have ever had. Buddy ordered 2 to go dish, one was dropped off but they took it back. Waited 10 more minutes and nothing came out. Had to ask the service about the order, they told us it was ready in the back but they forgot to bring it out...

Ok, to start, I was hesitant about trying here after the change. But they wowed us in all ways! Great food! We had the Peking duck. For all of you that understand..East Wall was one of our favorites. This place might be our new favorite! Amazing color, crisp, and so very juicy. The soup (second course of the Peking duck was super tasty) My fiancé had the Black pepper beef. Great flavor and the beef was thick tenders. Not the thin, sometimes grisly beef. Absolutely impressed! The staff was nice, very catering to our needs. Great atmosphere. Will be returning to try the Dim sum! Highly recommend anyone who has thought about coming here. This is definitely one of those occasions when a place has you so impressed, you are already starting to plan your next visit!

This was our first time here, and it absolutely slaps! I took a recommendation from one of our many servers (black pepper beef) and it was spot on. I was surprised at how tender the beef was. The Peking duck...its the stuff of culinary dreams. Perfect crispy fatty skin over tender succulent meat. If you havent had it before, this is definitely the place to try it. Other reviews mentioned problems with service, but I guess they got that worked out. Service was perfect. But fair warning, there is no buffet here. Go ahead and order, you wont care that its gone.
