I live literally across the street from the Nature Center entrance. It s beautiful here anytime of year! Great place for young learners during the summer camps/classes. Too bad dogs are not welcome here, as if they are not part of nature. I don t know who thought up that rule, but it needs to be revised- so many more people would visit if they could walk their dogs and enjoy nature together. The board claims that dogs will disturb the wildlife. They are under the ridiculous assumption that the wildlife stays in the preserve. Someone should explain how this wildlife visits us- they come up into our yards every evening! One doe had a baby in my backyard a couple of weeks ago and frequently leaves it here for hours. They are not disturbed or harmed by anything, especially dogs.

First of all, this place does not allow you to bring pets on the trails. Second of all, the Lake Grapevine trail needs significant improvement. The road is very muddy and gross to walk on. For a faster walker, one way from the nature center to the lake is 30 minutes. A lot of mud and wildlife s to watch for. Very overrated nature preserve. BTW they don t have restroom, just a portapotty at the trail head.

Wonderful nature preserve with lots of flora and fauna to enjoy. Trails are a mixture of sunny and shaded with trails immediately around the center being well maintained and connections to trails outside of the center being established but more rugged and natural. I was very pleased to find this so close to home.

Very nice nature center with a couple of easy trails to choose from. The trails are marked and well-worn. One trail will take you out to the lake. The wooded trails are shaded until you get closer to the lake.

The Bob Jones Nature Preserve is the ultimate hiking place where you will get to experience long, beautiful nature trails with an abundance of big trees, as well as stumbling upon Grapevine Lake itself while you are on your hikes. Near the nature center and the western end of the preserve, you will on occasion get to see deer roaming around, especially during the spring and summer. There is also a botanical garden beside the nature center. For those who love horses, you can actually see them grazing by behind the rails across the parking lot. You will enjoy this gem of a place if you love nature.

Really like this place, although I always seem to go when its baking hot. Nice trail around the lake, but a bit of a hike to get there from the Nature Center. Never seems to get too crowded and theres plenty of parking. No cost when I went.

Absolutely loved this hike! There was a cool tree swing at about halfway through. Horses and pets are allowed on the trail. So, if piles of poo in the middle of the trail are not your thing, this is not the trail for you. As for me and my husband, we had a super fun hike!

A great place to hike and get in touch in with nature. The sounds of the highway are non existent the further you hike towards the lake. The hikes are relatively easy and flat. When its wet it can get very muddy. Do enjoy! You find various signs of deer, hogs, and birds. PSA. If you see trash lets clean it. We went with the scouts and picked up trash to keep this place beautiful.

A hidden gem! Beautiful park, loved the trails.. loved being rewarded with an awesome lake view. The terrain switches - loose sand, compact sand, red sand, etc. Went in December - not much for flowers or greenery, but was around 73 degrees..but no one else was at the park on Tuesday, 12-14-21. Cant wait to try new trails, and bring friends. We went on the bluebird trail..then continued onto the lake (we just followed signs that said - Lake that way..etc.) didnt know exactly where to go :)

Nice property in an over the top neighborhood. Developers probably toss abd turn in their sleep agonizing over how to acquire and pave over this nice little patch of prairie. Should be a sign to direct you to the portopotty hidden behind a fence. Doesnt tell you the nature center field house isnt open unless there is a group there. Good for a walk with the kids.

The Bob Jones Nature Center and Preserve is an excellent way for the family to connect with nature. Located on the south side of Grapevine Lake in Southlake, it has an educational nature center with 785 acres of woodland and prairie, as well as 20+ miles of trails. The nature center is front and center when you park. To the right of the Nature Center, there is a Pollinator Garden that is fenced in with a set of rules one must follow when inside. To the left of the Pollinator Garden there is an old, big red barn. In the field behind the barn there is a nest of man made bird houses and a bat house, both on poles. Behind the Nature Center there is a pavillion with a fire place. Behind the pavillion there are trails that are indicated by where the grass has been mown down. All you have to do is follow the paths with signs and you will eventually loop back to the Pollinator Garden if you know the basic direction you are heading (I say this because there were plenty of trails that we did not go down since we only had a few hours until the preserve closed and didnt want to get too far away from the Nature Center before it did close). Some of the trails allow horses and others are only for humans (which are indicated by signs found on the trails). All along the sides of the trails we found bushes of what appeared to be blackberries or mulberries. There was even a blackberry (or mulberry) tree at one point in the trail which we found because there were blackberries (or mulberries) that had fallen on the ground since it was hanging over the trail. Near the blackberry (or mulberry) tree there was a fenced in horse guard leading to a trail that we didnt go through but will surely do so on a future visit. All in all, this was perfect outing for the family. Some things to remember: 1) Follow the rules on the sign when entering the park 2) Go to the restroom before hitting the trails (there is a porta potty near the Pollinator Garden) 3) Bring plenty of water to imbibe in while walking the trails 4) Have fun with the family!

Beautiful place. Stopped here to let my littles stretch their legs. This is a great place to do nature studies with children and just be in nature. We walked on a few trails and visited the pollination garden. It is a beautiful drive to get out here and so peaceful. We do not live in DFW but we visit often and we will definitely be back.

Horse/hiking trail that heads to grapevine lake. Watch for horse droppings. They say no dogs allowed on trails.

Bob Jones Nature Preserve and Centre is a hidden gem situated in the corner of Grapevine Lake and adjacent to a State Park. It provides simple walking trails around the centre and a gate that opens up to miles of walking and equestrian trails around the lake on the state park. Bob Jones was a former slave who became a land owner after the American civil war. He loved nature and donated the land so generations could enjoy and learn about the wonders of nature as well.
