LOCK YOUR CAR AND HIDE/TAKE YOUR WALLET. My car was broken into and they stole my wallet which had my license, credit and debit cards, cash and all my info. Would never expect this to happen at a trailhead parking lot but I guess that s the world we live in now. There is a sign from the PD that also says to lock and hide your stuff so I m guessing this happens regularly here. Fees: Free Toilets: Pit toilet

Trail is rated for walking, hiking, and biking. However biking was a bit difficult with the amount of hikers there were. Some dogs werent leashed. The trail seems like it could be enjoyable if people would pick up after their pets, or kept them leashed.

This trail makes me happy! Great hike! There s a bathroom here and it s about 4 miles to Lower Purgatory Trail head and there s a bathroom there. Everyone I ve come across in this trail has been courteous and I feel safe on this trail. There are a lot of branches of different trails, it s well marked but you should have at least a picture of the map with you. I use Pokémon Go as my map because really I just need a sense of direction. I ve only been in January so far and it s been amazing.

Im new to the area and wanted to check out the trails and the creek. Its a beautiful natural area. I didnt realize how long of a walk it would be to the actual creek lol this would be a cool spot to take the kids for a nice bike ride- the trails are longer. The south access has a shorter walk to the creek it seems. Toilets: A porto potty, restroom looks like its under construction. Dog-friendliness: I saw a lady with her dog in a buggy very cute

I didnt take too many photos. The trail gave me a decent workout before the temperature got too hot. Left relatively early this morning to do a complete loop. I am still not sure how long I walked and how long the Upper Purgatory trail is. I was looking for a mile marker. The large port o potty was really full and dirty. Other than that, I had a positive walk and experience this morning.

We enjoyed the trails. Most of them are well marked. Some parts are closed Mar to May to protect bird nesting which is good. Bring your water and hat as some parts are under direct sun.

I hike this trail often and see something new and wonderful each time. There are a variety of trails and many beautiful views. The only negative is that people are starting to leave their pet poo bags along the trail more frequently.

Very serene. Only encountered 4 other hikers along the trail path I chose. 99% of the time I had the trail all to myself. The geography really creates a beautiful place and allows the hiker to almost feel as though youre someplace else entirely. Lots of birdsong and great for birdwatching. Surprisingly, I didnt see or even hear a single deer my entire hike.

The trail was really good and free to enter. It s not well taken care of and the it gets harder to walk in some areas because the outgrown grass and several people didn t pick up after their dogs in it as well but I still find it a good one with some good sceneries and some challenging parts to burn some calories.

Good place to run trail. The large path is a little over 1 mile. Then you get on long trails and sometimes very very muddy trails. Watch out for lots of rocks that can trip you if you run.

Upper Purgatory provides both wheelchair accessable paths and rougher paths for those wanting more obstacles to climb on and over. The layout provides multiple paths to follow so that you can vary your route and see new views each visit. There are some locations for seating provided, and if youre limber enough you can always sit on a hand rock.

Beautiful and well maintained set of trails by City of San Marcos. Though there are trail markers throughout, some areas may be confusing if this is your first time here. I recommend printing a map of the area or downloading a trail app to your phone to help just in case. Entrance from Hunter road has parking and restroom area. Just a gorgeous area highly recommend you check it out!!!

This park is a relatively unknown treasure! Beautiful scenery, lots of rocky/technical trails to run or hike, and its relatively quiet. This is well worth the 40min drive from San Antonio! Ive put in many many miles running out here since I found this place a few months ago.

Great trail to hike for a beginner. Good variety of terrain. Lots of shade. I love how dog friendly it is but please leash your dogs. People let their dogs just run free and then it will be my fault when my dog gets defensive on his leash because your dog ran up on him.

Would be nicer if people picked up after their pets so that it wouldn t smell like poop at the beginning of the trail. Regardless, different options for trail lengths and terrain and one of the trails also connects to the lower park. I prefer the upper section because it is (usually) less crowded and Dante s trail is the perfect length for a nice run.
