Ive been going to Tantra since I moved to San Marcos way back in the Summer of 2009. Bluegrass nights were on Wednesdays, pitchers of beer were cheap, and the coffee was strong in the mornings. 15 years later in 2024, Tantra is still one of my favorite spots to go and relax. This morning, I popped by for a cold brew coffee. I sat inside for a bit, enjoyed the artwork on the walls (from local artist Clay DeStefano), and relaxed outside with my drink on the balcony before walking home -- if you get here early in the morning, you can enjoy a calming ambiance. The staff is always friendly and I love how the recent renovations make the place feel like home. I highly recommend Tantra for folks who are looking for good coffee (in the mornings), a light meal (when the kitchen is open), or a rowdy party (anytime theres live music).

I am a Hard Core Carnivore. I had the Cielos tacos (vegetarian) and they were delicious. My younger sister had the homemade tostadas with red and green salsa. Those were delicious. The drinks are also just right. All was well presented. Support our local San Martian!

I frequent a LOT of coffee shops, in Austin and SMTX. This is my favorite one, hands down. Not only is the environment relaxing (especially after the renovation and no longer using Fabuloso that I can detect), but the staff has always been the friendliest and warmest coffee shop employees I have encountered. The drinks and food are great too!

Nice friendly service inside, but don t bother going in the evenings for a coffee or any else not music related. They wanted to levy a 5$ tax just for walking in for a coffee just because there was a band outside that you couldn t really hear inside anyway. I had a decent interaction with staff once before so we wanted to support them and got coffee to go. Never again.

Went here for the first time with a new friend and absolutely fell in love with this place. The Vanilla Iced Chai was divine and the Lavender Sour Matte was also quite delicious. The staff was super nice, the tunes were great and the art is in the back was so beautiful and raw and progressive. I cant wait to return.

Ooh I was a fan. Usually coffeeshop food is not interesting but they had pulled pork tacos that I licked clean. The sweet potato fries were perfectly crispy on the outside and hold up beautifully as nachos. Lots of interesting lemonade/tea options for those less excited about coffee. Definitely stop by!

This place has a really comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. There s a variety of seating options; you re basically guaranteed to find a spot. I ordered the iced hibiscus tea with no sweetener. It was refreshing and the staff were very nice. I highly recommend!

My husband and I were there for a fundraiser and we really enjoyed the atmosphere and the music. Of course it was hot, but it cooled off as the sun went down and we still had a good time. The hummus was delicious like always and the chips and salsa were refreshing. Looking forward to next time. Parking: Limited parking in the area, but worth the walk up.

This is my new favorite place in San Marcos for breakfast and coffee. The staff was amazing and so kind! The food was delicious. I would highly recommend the breakfast sandwich and the breakfast tacos. They are good sized portions. The coffee was also really good. I got a capuchino with honey and my husband got an iced vanilla latte. The outdoor space is also amazing. They have a bunch of large picnic tables outside that would be good for larger group seating. Inside seating is more limited!

No sign on the building so people don t know what the business is driving by. It took some time to figure out what it was even called. No hours of operation posted outside and no open sign. How do you even know when it s open? Coffee is ok. Liquor is a bit pricey.

My friend and I met here after a long hiatus. We ordered loose leaf tea and it was very good hot tea. The perfect amount of honey was even in it. Seating here has changed and there is less of it but comfortable chairs were found and we proceeded to have a very enjoyable time. The only thing I wish they offered was more hot tea selections. There are no good loose leaf tea shops and we sure could use places in town that offer it. Not everyone wants super sweet teas with boba and such but a good hot tea with attention to proper Steeping would be such a blessing. Thanks. Tantra, for being here for us to enjoy again. Well be back soon.

I finally hit up the new @tantrasanmarcos since they recently relaunched after being shuttered for over 4 years... and WOW! They did a really nice job with the remodel & the restoration of the old house! And as far as the breakfast tacos: I hate to say, but theyre one of the better ones Ive had here in town. They easily rival Lolis & Bobcat Quickie, which says alot! (IYKYK) I spent alot of time at Tantra back when I was in college, & I kind of miss the old hippie-turned-hipster vibes the place once had. But this relaunch, this reincarnation of sorts, was much needed & worth the wait indeed! Hopefully things continue to go well in this old houses new life!

Good food and prices however I am put off by the dirty look and feel to the place. The bathroom was absolutely disgusting both times I ve visited (I won t go in to details - yes, that bad) and there is just a general hygiene issue going on. If was not for my husband enjoying the food here, I wouldn t return. I really want to like this place and probably could if they can sort out the lack of cleaning and get the filthy bathroom refurbished. A food establishment should be on top of the game in that respect.

Came to this coffee shop for a bite to eat. We are from Austin and were here to shop the outlets. Upon arrival, I thought the place was closed and started to search for a different place as my husband went to check to see if they were open. They were and we gave it a shot. Its order at the counter. We grabbed coffee and tacos. The food was 5 stars but I gave a 4 star rating for the atmosphere. It definitely has character, being in an old house, but it didnt feel super clean and inviting. There were obvious renovations going on though. Overall, good experience.
