This is the chicken I received when dining at Gill s Chicken, this is Dry chicken from the go. When I told the mgr she said it where the wing was cut at, UM No that is where the breast is split. Manager of a chicken place should know the anatomy of chicken. And when I told her it was dry she said ALL white meat is! I think not as my reviews show I go to a lot of places, and that is not how chicken is every where. The mgr proceeded to tell me that the was cooked for 16 minutes white first the dark and that is how the owners want it so that is how it is! I have been here before and it really good golden juicy chicken, this visit was not the same sorry to say. Hope it get better, plus there were a lot of kids being very loud at the time of my visit& the mgr yelling at them does not help. I might come back to see if it has improved.

I had a bad experience starting at the drive thru. I hope management sees these recent 1 Star reviews and addresses them. I dealt with 3 different employees and not a single Thank you or please. Common manners. Only sullen indifference. I waited 9 minutes in the parking lot for an order of fish (I knew that the fish was cooked to order) and she finally brings me my order. I happened to check it before I left and it was steak fingers. So I called from the parking lot and a guy came out. He asked to see the order and I showed him. I ended up keeping the steak fingers and left.

Felt like having some chicken and found Gills and thought we would give it a try. Personally, the chicken was ok. Nothing spectacular that would make me drive over here instead of eating someplace closer to home. The biscuits were very dense. Fries were ok once we added some salt. The chicken has a decent flavor on the breading, but it doesnt reach the chicken. If you try to get past some of the grease to eat chicken, it is just bland. Not my favorite place, but they seem to have a pretty decent drive-through business. You be the judge. My tastes may not be yours. I would also suggest some cleaning. The container that holds silverware and condiments was very dirty. The drink tray had several disgusting items laying at the bottom. Had I seen it before food was served, we would not have eaten here.

Menu is inaccurate. For some reason, the sides listed cant all be sides for the combos, but there is no way to tell that on the menu. When we got our food, I asked why we were charged for a meal and two sides instead of a combo that should have included two sides. The only explanation was the above information and management says so and they just said that repeatedly louder when I asked for clarification, to the point that they were yelling over me. To add insult to injury, the food was all very dry and overcooked. Wont be going back. Dont waste your money.

Price rip off and bad service! To add Mac n cheese, a side that is 50 cents more on the menu requires you to buy it separately. To get another side to equal a combo now costs $3 more total. When I questioned this, some assistance manager coped an attitude and asked me if I wanted my money back and cancel my order. I did and will never return here again.

Im not the person to make bad reviews but after paying $50 for a family tender meal and some catfish I just have to say something... I have loved those place for years for their chicken and fish. hell I even had them cater my wedding. but now that they have moved to their new location it has gone way down hill... the chicken tenders were small, overcooked and tasted like there was a pound of salt in the batter and no other seasonings. the fish was dry and tasted just like the chicken.. no flavor but a huge amount of salt. not to mention everything tastes like it was fried in 2 month old grease.. very sad because this place had great food when they were in the old spot. just proves that most of the time when restaurants try to upsize their locations the quality goes down.. very sad... might go back one more time someday to see if they were just having a bad day. so we will see

I highly recommend. My wife and I very much like the fried chicken at Gills Fried Chicken. The breading is not overly heavy and the flavor is nice. The sides are very substantial and tasty. On a recent visit my wife and I had the two piece all white with two sides, okra and cole slaw. The quantity of the sides is large and the flavor very good. When compared to Popeyes the prices at Gills are lower and the sides are larger and more flavorful. A bargain when compared to Popeyes. Gills is our go to for take home fried chicken.

The drive through needs attention! I mentioned to a friend at work I was going to Gils for some chicken and he said be ready to wait an hour in the drive through. I went anyway. I waited for a few minutes at the speaker before someone asked me what I wanted to order. Drove up to the window, paid and waited a few more minutes. After a combined 15 minutes, the guy opens the window and says can you park over there, its going to be About 10 minutes before the chicken thighs are ready. I said No. Ive been here 15 minutes already, if I park over there Ill be here another 20. Why didnt you say that before I paid, I wouldve had the choice to GO somewhere else or change my order? the guy lowered his head with a sigh and I heard one of the 7 employees that I could see yell, park the line! I said what do you have that you can pack now he offered to change my thigh order to breast and that he doesnt blame me for not waited and added I wouldnt wait either. I agreed, took my order and left. Not a good experience and I must say GOODBYE to Gils. This occurred on 1/20/24 at about 3:45 pm, just in case any competent management is interested.

The ladies that serve the food and ran the front counter were extremely nice. The older sounding lady with the rough voice that answered the phones today was extremely rude and Im really just not sure how they keep in service with this lady there. Very hostile attitude and for absolutely no reason. She sounds like she needed a big hug or a lesson. I hope she treats people nicer in the future. From reading the reviews it looks like I am not the only one who has had to deal w her and it isnt just a bad day (as I was hoping). I am not sure how this company benefits by keeping a person like this. I feel sorry for the workers that have to endure her hate.

What an awful experience!! I had been looking forward to this meal all week as I am pregnant and have been craving fried catfish and had never b is layed out slightly confusing compared to their online menu, but that wasn t a big deal, their drive thru worker was rude and did not seem to have any patience, and she seemed to get annoyed at my confusion on the menu, that wasn t too big of a deal either, we all have bad days. They had me wait 10 minutes for my husband s chicken (no wait for the fish), his chicken soaked through the box on the 15 minute drive home, but it looks cooked, just SOGGY as all heck, but my catfish however wasn t. It had RAW batter inside and pieces of the fish were undercooked and gooey!! For all the things I wasn t gonna let ruin this dining experience, that did it for me! We payed $28 for this food and I was only able to eat half of my fish and I doubt he ll eat this chicken! Honestly save yourself the time and money. I m trying to figure out how to add pictures because I want yall to see this fish situation! ( it s in the photos section now with my name ) ***update I called them to let them know the situation. I asked for a refund for my husband s chicken and my fish, but told them to charge me for all of the sides because those were fine. They told me they were gonna call me back because they were busy, it took them an hour to call me back and I spoke to a woman named Karen, who was absolutely ridiculous and refused to refund the chicken because she said that she believes it was a quality product. After spending 25 minutes on the phone explaining that I m pregnant and couldn t eat my raw fish and that my husband threw his mushy chicken away and haggling with her about a refund she then accused me of waiting an hour to call and talk about my food even though I called as soon as I got home and saw my meal and SHE IS THE ONE that asked me to allow them to call me back. Then She tried to tell me that it was my fault because I was in a bad mood when I got there, which was so not true I was SO excited for this meal, she tried to say all chicken gets mushy after a 30 minute drive when I told her it s a 15 minute drive and I ve never had any issues with fried chicken anywhere else, and then she said that the drive is probably what made my fish raw in the first place makes no sense. After all that, I had to send my husband to get the refund with the receipt for my fish and she said they would make him a replacement chicken. We will never be giving them business again and I hope things get better, especially for Karen, and that you save your money and your time.

Im a very dissatisfied customer due to mgmnt mistreatment.The pale chicken was spiceless, drive thru staff are sweet-sweet people, uniformed w/hair nets, but dont expect graciousness from Mgr Alan Hart. I spent $55 on chicken (and small fish/chips). My guest found a long light colored hair in the chicken she bit into, and spit it out. The manager A. Hart is young and inexperienced, and was extremely argumentative about all details (how where when, why are you just now calling at 4pm if the order was at 1:30pm, none of my staff have long brown hair, my cook is bald, I dont see how this couldve happened, I wont replace the $55 order). Alan came down hard and heavy, repeating his position SEVERAL TIMES, making me feel like a would-be-scammer. Im a senior, and a good paying customer wherever I go. Dont know the policy, but I never once mentioned full replacement. He offered a 2-3 piece replacement. (Which is it, 2 or 3?) I had to grovel for 4 pieces (he flat out refused) until I asked for the owners name, which he provided, and in the same breath agreed to settle on a 4 piece replacement. Like I said, the staff I saw from the drive-thru window wore hair nets, so Alan needs to figure out how hair gets in the food as they unrefrigerate/cook/fill orders (because he was unbelieving). They may still have hair on their clothes after donning h.nets by not shaking it off their shoulders. I dont recommend dealing w Alan Hart. He needs customer svc, ethical decision-making, and sensitivity training. Alan was all ego talking -- he doesnt respect customers or seniors. Id like to tell the owner, but my guest wrote the name and no longer has it. Hope owner reads this post and provides additional support for him. Skip the hassle, folks.

We went way out of our way to go to Hunter Rd. To have Gils Because we always love to eat at the one in town. And they went so far so we have to plan ahead to go. But it wasnt worth the time or trouble to get there. It was a Saturday May 26, 2023. Got there at 7pm. There were 3 young grumpy BOYS. And 1 young lady with an attitude. And an older man cooking. I waited 15 min. No one was in the dining room but there was a long drive thru line. I ordered a Snack pack my boyfriend a 2 piece combo. Got cold chicken cold fries and almost frozen biscuits. We ate the chicken anyway but took the biscuits to the counter and asked for warm ones the guy there said they were all the same and replaced 2 more cold ones I told him they were cold he said well there in the oven at whatever temp. I said but its not working cause they are COLD! He said oh well. Ugh. So needless to say Im hoping me writing this review will encourage a manager to take charge and change things. As for me well I will not come back anytime soon. I used to love this chicken. Im sad to say the employees take no pride in there work. Its dirty and dirty. It reflex on the management.

This place has gone down hill I went for a drive through order and they did not put 5 pieces of chicken out of the 15 we ordered not only that the food was cold by the time we got home and had to go back to only receive the pieces of chicken that were missing and found a nat stuck in the chicken. Was not gonna go back to argue never going back again

Today their chicken and fries were not good. How can an establishment have great children and fries one day and the next its terrible. Cold chicken terrible cold hard fries, theres no words to explain the lack of quality of their food and customers satisfaction. Gils fried chicken has their hit and miss days more consistently. Looking to a new chicken establishment. Bad day for chicken & fries. Parking: Not enough parking spaces. To many small businesses sharing a small parking lot. Not enough handicapped parking. Wheelchair accessibility: Not enough handicapped parking, hard to exit when you park and the entrance is not handicapped assesdible, two doors to hold too before you get into the restaurant.

This place reminds me of the Soup Kitchen on Seinfeld. The male order taker in the drive through is very snippy for the second time in a row that I have been there. I asked for a side of honey mustard for my chicken tenders and received something else, after receiving my order at the drive thru window I lobbed the incorrect dressing back to their counter, it maybe was 12 that the dressing I received dropped back to the counter the snippy order taker said not to throw it back but to hand it back. This guy thinks he is king of chicken palace, calm down dude! The previous time I went through the drive thru the girl filling my order filled my order then sat there and talked to the snippy order taker for 3-4 minutes before handing me my order. Also, the tenders are half their size now! The food is good but the customer service is a BAD! Until the kids have some training on customer service I ll pass in the future!

We used to love, love, love the Gills location off of Hopkins. We would go weekly, and always bought their fish during lent....for years. Weve never had the same type of service at the Hunter location. Service and quality continue to go down. About a year ago I called and spoke with the manager about the poor quality of our order, he couldnt care less. Recently, we decided to give them another shot, because we truly did always love their fried fish. We do not live near by, so to go all the way out there just for fish should tell you how we used to feel about this place. Well, the quality of the green beens was BLAH, and they used to be our favorite side. They literally just tasted like can green beans, no spices, butter, or whatever else they may toss in. Then came the fish. It was awful! It didnt taste like it had gone bad, but there was a noticeable taste that was off. I immediately tossed all of the food from my 3yos plate, as well a mine. My husband called ahead to let them know we were coming back, the manager said okay. Once he arrived she refused to give a full refund because too much food was missing; ummm, sorry...I threw what was on our plates out. She also didnt want to take the sides back. She also suggested the food tasted bad because of our long drive, and the food got cold. Ummm, what? Weve traveled this distance for their product many times before. Just because it may cool down doesnt mean it will taste bad. It didnt matter to her that the whole meal had been ruined for us because of the overall lack of quality.. Out of a $44 price tag, she said she could only refund $12. Really?! She then said we could call Karen, the GM, the next day to plead our case. No thanks! Id rather never give them my business again, they can keep the last of my change. Poor quality food, poor quality service.

As a customer of over 15 years, you d think that would matter for something. I went in and asked if the tenders were just dropped and I was told they came out 20min ago. I got my food and my tenders were hard and dry as if they had been sitting for an hour. I asked for fresh food and said I could wait how ever long. I was greeted by the Manager with a massive attitude and arrogance. She didn t seem to care how long of a customer I had been or that I wanted fresh food. And told me that because I had seen fresh tenders made, I was then asking for those. My family used to work at the New Braunfels location back years ago, there is a reason there s is only one of these left. And in given time with the way they treat their customers. This one won t last long. I was told my food would not be replaced, and I then asked for a refund. While giving me my refund the Manager proceeded to tell me she was not picky, didn t care if the food was cold, hard, dry, because she was not a picky eater. Quality customer service!

Pretty awful experience. Went here for the first time and was excited to try it. We went through the drive through and were told to park and they would bring us our order. They proceeded to forget about us and when we did finally get home with our order they had forgotten one of our sides. We only had two so that is frustrating. We called and were told we need to provide a receipt number and that they would investigate and determine next steps. After asking further I was told essentially that they wouldnt credit us and that the item we already paid for would be complimentary next time...what a joke. For the food: chicken was good, coleslaw was extremely dry, corn mediocre, biscuits were good. Its a shame. Maybe we just got unlucky.

I go to physical therapy in the same center as Gills. I stopped in and ordered the steak fingers and they are to die for!!!!! I can t get enough and the cram gravy is as good as mine! Biscuits are also outstanding. If you want some of the best steak fingers in the area go to GILLS!! You won t be disappointed .

I just want to say how satisfied i was with my visit tonight i went with my family. The service was fast, the food was fresh, & the place was clean. The gentleman with longer hair and he wore a visor i believe he may have been in charge was very nice and professional. All the employees were nice and were working and staying busy the entire dine in my family and i were there. That crew definitely deserves some recognition. We will be definitely going back. :)

First thing: I could not place a to go order by phone. Why? Okay, so I drive to the Hunter Road location and the fish plates offered on site and on the menu are totally different than what is listed in the web site menu. When was the last time it was updated? The girl behind the counter looked to be fifteen or so years old and spoke with a soft and timid voice. I am not angry or even surprised, but I will not be back.

So disappointed I used to eat here a lot when I lived here, I bought 80 dollars of chicken fries and sides the other night, I got to the house and found both boxes of fries were cold and greasy, no flavor at all. The chicken was cold and not very tasty. The food I had the last time was so much better. Sad to say they will never get my business again.

The food is AWESOME! We had the gizzards and chicken. The lady who took our order also worked the window......she was not very friendly. I felt like we were bothering her. The condiment sauce station, fountain drink area station, kitchen area and restaurant in general needs cleaning. The kitchen is out in the open and customers can see everything. The restrooms were dirty. Ill be back...but next time take my food to go.

We ordered a 15pc box of chicken (way too many wings) and four large sides. We had to pull over and wait for our order, ok no big deal. Then we get home and only to find over half the chicken was clearly over cooked, completely darker color, super crispy and very dry. It was burned. Plain n simple. The fries were bland but fresh. Mashed potatoes were decent. The biscuits were good. I gave them a shot and over $50 later I m so disappointed.

This place is apparently a staple in San Marcos. Been here a few times and it is better each time. The flavor and freshness of the chicken to the mashed potatoes is always on point!
