This place is a gem. We were in town for the weekend, and searched soul food restaurants. We went to the first place we searched, and it was closed. We found this place; and we are glad the first place was closed, because we would have missed an awesome meal and pleasant greeter!!!! My husband and I shared a 2 meat plate and one side (fried fish, shrimp, dirty), and I ordered another vegetable. We spent less than $30 and had leftovers. It s small but clean. This was a win!!!!

Wow, absolutely amazing!!! A meal that made me smile!! My first time in and I can t wait to go back. We had the fried catfish, fried shrimp, chicken fried steak, collard greens, cabbage, mashed potatoes & gravy, macaroni & cheese, french fries and cornbread. Oh and of course I had to try the kool aid. My only regret is not ordering dessert (bc I was FULL w leftovers) to take home with me. But no worries, I ll be back, SOON and OFTEN! Surely as the pyramids stand on top of the sand. The black family reigns supreme. It was my intuition that lead me to choose this restaurant out of all the places selling seafood. God. I just moved to San Antonio a little over a year ago been looking for a healthy soul food that was capable. Are you making the statement? This is how my grandma and my mother used to cook I found. They do have a convenient way to pay if you re not using cash you can also use cash app. The service wasn t the best!! The guy that takes orders does not have a pleasant or kind demeanor, which that is the first point of contact so you expect friendliness .. It gives off rushed and rude and not at all good customer service .. overall I have a great experience with the food, time it took to receive but when it comes to the customer service I did not have a good customer experience! The food is 10/10!!!

The food was SOOOO good. I got baked chicken that literally slipped off the bone. My boyfriend got pork chops that were seasoned well. We were planning on taking the food to go for the road, but when we tried the food, we had to stay and savor it! There were ZERO leftovers. Currently working in this area of town for over a year & pass by this place daily to & from work. Yesterday, 08/04/24 at 8 pm, was the day & time to stop by! My friend & I walked in to order off of the menu. Good food options, decent portions sizes & the PRESENTATION of the plate was top tier. It was a hard decision to choose two sides. This place is so good. Although it may look a little skeptical and sketchy from the outside, the food is AMAZING!! The portions are pretty generous and my favorites are the peach cobbler and the cabbage. The cabbage is a super good side but the peach cobbler is extraordinary and got me high. How do I even start.. When you drive up, its a hole in the wall kinda place. You walk in and see it was once a home converted to a restaurant. Theres a small counter you walk up to with a whiteboard to the side listing the small menu items. But these food items are the best! You dont need anything else! Mrs. Kelly was the lady who helped us, and she gave us auntie vibes. Very kind, sweet lady who made us feel welcomed. Like, she was HAPPY to serve us. Once we looked over the menu, we decided on some extra sides, as we couldnt walk out of there without trying this home cooked meal! Your plate already comes with 2 sides, but we had to try a few more items. Mrs. Kelly brought out our food about 15 minutes later, and it did not disappoint!! When I say that was the best soul food Ive had in a long time, I mean it!! First of all, the vibe makes you feel as if youre at your favorite aunts house for Sunday dinner. And when the food comes out, you can taste the LOVE and pride in every bite!! I absolutely loved the whole experience and food. Im grateful I came across this hidden gem. My husband and I visited this restaurant on 05/12/2024. This was our first time in San Antonio since moving to Texas. We were very excited to try this new restaurant, and also excited that it was Soul Food. The restaurant, inside and out, was clean. The atmosphere was pretty chill. We waited about 30 minutes for the food to come out, however, the staff was bringing out orders left and right. We ordered four different plates to include the following: Fish : 5/5 - FIRE Shrimp : 4/5 - They were decent. I would order again. Chicken Fried Steak : 2/5 - I would like to explain. For us, it was not crispy like how you would expect a chicken fried steak to be. It seemed very thick for a chicken fried steak as well. However, it was seasoned and tasted good. Chicken Wings : 3.5/5 - They were regular. We just wish they had a little more flavor. Maybe adding a sauce to them would have elevated them. When I took my first bite, I was looking for a sauce. Yams : 5/5 - We are highly upset we did not get yams as a side for each plate. Them yams was FIRE! Fried Okra: 5/5 - FIRE Cabbage : 5/5 - FIRE. Idk what yall did to the cabbage, but keep doing it! Collard Greens : 5/5 - Although they were not the desired texture (everyone eats greens differently), they were absolutely fantastic! Mashed Potatoes : 5/5 - I am a mash potatoes girl and these were absolutely amazing! Cornbread : 4/5 - The cornbread tasted good, we just didnt like how it crumbled. We loved this restaurant and we are very happy that we were able to experience the food. We cannot wait to come back. This is typical uncomplicated soul food spot. Fish is the best to order. The greens were well done not overly salty, no evidence of seasonings like onions or meat. The Mac and cheese was overcooked and tasteless. The noodles had too much roux, so it was pasty and mushy. The chicken fried steak wasnt steak but something closer to a hamburger patty. Paid $6 for Luling sausage and that was tasteless. This place has dine in capability but seems more of a take out. Cash or Cash App only, when we went there was evidence that they sold daiquiris but the machines were out of order. They have Kool aid on the menu. Even though we said we were dining in, or did was served in take out containers and plasticware in a bag. Service is minimal, order at the counter, pay and Wait. All the food was fresh and the cornbread muffin was delicious, sweet and closer to a sheet cake. Vegetarian options: Only vegetarian if you eat sides or if you think vegetarian included pescatarian. Parking: About 20 Wheelchair accessibility: Yes theres a ramp

Never had real soul food and this place WAS FOR THE SOUL . We left like family. Food was delicious and home cooked. Tasted like your grandmothers home cookin down sound and I did even grow up with my Granny I loved it. The owner was amazing. Her family, worked with her, was helpful and attentive, easy to talk to.

I love that I finally have a reliable soul food place to dine in San Antonio. This is definitely a whole in the wall that has great food and good portions for a good price! I got the 2 piece plate with the wings. It was pretty good and seasoned great. If you haven t tried it yet you should!

This place right here gives me hope about soul food in San Antonio. It was AMAZING! My daughter gave it rave reviews, and shes so picky, we had to go. The woman was an older black lady giving off auntie vibes and took our order quickly. The credit card machine was down, so we paid cash app. No problem! We got that food... When I tell you they didnt miss on ANYTHING!!! Everything was fresh and super hot! I bit into that chicken and almost broke into a holy dance!! Took me back to my childhood with my grandmother. I didnt have to add any salt to anything. I didnt even use hot sauce because I just wanted to taste that flavor uninhibited. The peach cobbler was really good and the kool-aid was definitely back in the day!! We didnt even talk the food was so good! It was definitely giving hole in the wall, but in my experience, those are the best places. I will most certainly be back!

I tried it because of the good reviews but I should of seen the bad ones because they are true and it was nasty food wasnt edible I was quoted 24.00 on the phone and ended up paying 25.00 I ordered chicken wings fish and sides were cabbage greens and rice broccoli casserole. Never again I should of went to bayseas but I wanted to try something different. The place was dirty and had a nasty smell the gentleman that was cooking was wearing slippers with socks the floor where the curtain is was dirty. My question is how often does the health inspector come. Never again I waisted money on inedible food with no flavor. Sketchy!!!!!

Good food. Good service. Good people. Highly reccomend. Cash/cashapp only. Ordered the meatloaf, yams, and mac n cheese and it tasted exactly like my mothers. Get there early on Sundays as they make a set amount each day. If youre rolling through like I was, definitely make a stop here. Thanks again for making me feel at home.

Bussin!!! The baked chicken and gravy is fire! The yams bussing! The Mac n cheese isnt nasty, but its kinda mid. It went well with the catfish though, and the catfish is fire too! I was salty they were out of the banana pudding and they only had a few servings left of peach cobbler so Im pretty sure that means its good. The kool-aid is banging. Fresh and hot! Made to order! Loved everything! Nothing like getting a home cooked meal while traveling. I had a craving for some catfish and decided to check this place out. Catfish was amazing! Greens and Mac n cheese were delicious. Topped off my meal with some banana pudding. My son got the wings and enjoyed them as well. All reminded me of my grandmothers cooking. Great price for such quality of food. Will definitely come back again the next time I visit San Antonio.

I was looking for something good to eat while in the area. Read the reviews and decided I should try it. I was really looking forward to just the catfish plate, but decided on a two meat meal. I had the catfish and shrimp with sides of greens, broccoli cheese casserole, and cornbread. Great portions, I was stuffed. I didnt, but I wish I would have asked for cocktail sauce for the shrimp. They did have tarter sauce, but it was a walmart brand and nothing special, but it did not ruin the meal. This place reminds me of a little shrimp shack on the water in N.C. that I havent been to in years. The food is outstanding !!! I would like to try the porkchops and county fried steak, and I swear I heard someone come in after me and asked about meatloaf. But when I go back, I think im going for the 3 meat plate so I can try a variety of meats. They were out of fried okra, but the greens are quite possible, the best greens I have ever had !!! I wanted to try the banana pudding, but I was too full to eat anything else. I had leftovers to go. Im telling you, the reviews dont lie. This place is the cats meow !!! I will be back !!! And damn I want some banana pudding now.

It doesnt look like much on the outside but I seem to prefer that because they usually have the best food.. Inside its small and quaint which just makes the experience that much better and more personal. And they did not disappoint. It was home cooked soul/southern food and delicious. To top it off, a big cup of red kool-aid to drink. Very friendly staff. Local customers engage us with witty and humorous conversations. A very down to earth, friendly place to dine. My husband and I were visiting during Christmas Holidays 2023, surfing the internet for some place to eat. It was Christmas Eve and they were about to close In 30 minutes. We called they took our order of fish and shrimp Mac and cheese greens and dirty rice. Gentlemen who took our order said okay were dropping your fish down and well see you when you get here. Made it there and he was a kind young gentleman. We waited about 15 mins and food was ready. The gentleman said to open it and see if its to your liking and even try a piece, so we did. When I say the fish was piping hot and very well seasoned. Got back to hotel and went all in. The shrimp was hot and seasoned. The mac and cheese was good. Greens were well seasoned and good. Well be back when we visit again. Also gentleman mentioned when we were leaving now yall know where we are. YES we do! We recommend all you locals visit them!!
