Been going to this place for over a decade with a COVID break. If anything, its gotten better; the place offers a safe, affordable, fun, and inclusive experience for climbers at any skill level. The staff is well trained and really care, and they constantly change routes to keep it fresh.

The people who worked here were really nice and informative but I have some things that will be very important for people who are in a wheelchair. This place is technically wheelchair accessible. There is a technical ramp to get into the building but it is very steep which would make it very difficult if not impossible for a person to reach the building alone. The bathrooms are NOT wheelchair accessible. My wheelchair could not only not fit through the bathroom door but the bathroom itself was not a wheelchair accessible bathroom. Im unsure if they have another bathroom for wheelchairs but to put some perspective on how small the bathroom is, my wheelchair is a 16 inch seat that makes the wheelchair itself (due to the wheels) about 18 to 24 inches. They have harnesses and it is possible for wheelchair users to climb, something I didnt know. The people are nice, they have an awesome music taste which was early 90s to 2000s rock. Stuff like Weezer and Simple Plan. I also dont remember seeing any wheelchair accessible parking but if I had to guess it might be the bigger space next to the ramp they provide but I didnt see any markings in the parking lot that specified accessible parking. They also have an upstairs that is not wheelchair accessible. My main complaint is how the building is technically wheelchair accessible but it is not wheelchair accessible to someone who may want to come alone which is a possibility considering they have a group that specializes in individuals like me who use a wheelchair. I hope this reaches the owner because this seems like a really nice sort of hole in the wall climbing place!

Exceptional privately owned rock gym. Well maintained, well thought, out old school - not your super gym . Very innovative with excellent fitness facility, very cool lead wall extensions (30ft horizontal roof), and good use of auto belays. Boulder setting could use some Consistency and better imagination. This gym is what Texas climbing is built on. Core climbing since the 90 s; deep involvement in its history. They offer homeschool climbing days and support real at needs communities. They re trying to afford a moon/kilter board. Go support them especially if you live here.

This is an excellent gym. Newer gyms arent necessarily bad by nature, but an old school gym like this is what you want if real climbing is what youre training for. The roof routes are great, and thats something that other gyms in DFW are missing. My only criticism is the flooring. Its been a couple decades since the shredded tire deal was the norm, and it kinda sucks. But, it would be crazy expensive to change, so I get it. I wish I lived closer to this one so I could go more often.

Great climbing gym in a low key spot. Staff was great! We got a quick tour and intro to the building and a belay test. There are lots of quality routes intentionally set. Its a breath of fresh air to see routes set that accurately reflect outdoor route grading. While this gym seems outdated, its definitely worth checking out! And the day pass rate is phenomenal!

This rock climbing gym is the most convenient for me to go to, however I feel like it leaves a lot to be desired. The overall vibe of this gym is very much college dudes garage which has a lot of potential to feel kind of trendy and charming, but it doesn t play to that charm right and feels kind of dingy. The location of it has become more appealing with relatively recent improvements to the area overall, and the exterior of the building on the backside is pretty cool, they have a neat mural that might would make me want to check it out if I were nearby, but when you approach the parking lot the building looks more like a rundown warehouse and I feel like renovations of the outside would make it seem a bit more inviting. The inside is alright, I like the open space they have with all of the tables. But I do feel like they should reevaluate the furniture in the open area. I understand a portion of their business is hosting birthday party s but between the public school lunch tables and the picnic tables I think one should be done away with, as well as the mat couches, should be replaced with furniture a bit more conducive to be either benches climbers can leave their stuff at or a better spot to chill out at between climbing. The lighting I also feel could be improved upon, it feels just a little to dim inside. Most of the manually belayed climbs I definitely feel like need renovations. Most of them are ropes thrown over pipes on the ceiling which feels like a bare minimum way of accomplishing the intended job, and doesn t quite feel reassuring. But their auto belayed climbs are up to standard. This gym also has some lead climbing I do like that there is options to boulder, top rope, and lead climb here. Their routes however I do feel like leave a lot to be desired. I m a relatively experienced climber and I ve done a pretty good variety of indoor and out door climbing. I didn t find that their top rope routes get to be difficult until 5.11 and I found their boulders to be inconsistent in rating but I could do most of their V6s. I did find that most of their routes boulder and top rope lack any real cool factor, neat solutions, or challenges apart from strength or reach. There was however one top rope that I could see myself projecting, which is the route the route that stars in a cave by the route of the week. The route of the week however has been the same for the last 6 weeks that I am aware of. Most of the boulders in my opinion are asinine, the routes I approached that had dynos felt like the dyno was really the only notable part of the climb and none of the dynos felt like anything to write home about. There is one boulder route that I am a fan of and that is the pink route inside the cave upstairs, I could see myself taking an evening to work on that route. Their boulders do need to be updated more frequently for a membership to be worthwhile for me as all of the routes have been the same throughout the whole gym every time I have been throughout the last 6 weeks. This gym has an upstairs lounge and small bouldering area that I am a a fan of, I think that section is pretty well done. There is a downstairs area with gym equipment that looks like it doesn t get used very often, the area is messy and doesn t really have enough equipment that I would cancel my regular gym membership if I was a member here. However there is a foosball table in that section that is a nice form of entertainment between climbs. From my observations the majority of the community at this gym is UTA students, as they have a climbing team. They seem to be friendly but doesn t seem to be a community that expands or thrives revolving around this gym in particular. Apart from that it seems to mostly be small groups and families taking their kids here, so the community is friendly enough, but not a reason I would be drawn to this gym either. But it is definitely better than the weird vibes that I get at summit. It s not great but it s the most convenient option I have.

The kids and grown-ups seemed to really enjoy this place for our little 6 year olds birthday party! For the most part it it was fantastic! I thought there were a few things that would help it be better. One problem was that not everyone experienced climbers, so our little people were often just standing around waiting for someone to show them what to do. Although we did have a few adults who knew how to climb, they were out numbered by the children who didnt know anything about climbing. One adult did get quick coaching on how to manage a small child they found quickly they didnt get it completely. Many of the kids didnt get to climb due to this. Possibly, in the future, someone could be assigned to a birthday party until everyone has had a chance to actually climb. Just one more thing... being it was almost all of our first time going here, we had no idea our shoes would never be the same after walking around on top of shredded black rubber . I might have missed it if there was a sign, but a warning would be really great! Other than these two things, this was a different and fun experience!

My mom had so much fun here she broke a foot. LITERALLY! WON T BE BACK. Not because the place was so awesome. Lol. Mostly because I watched it happen. So I ve got bad memories. Overall it s a great place to go rock climbing or do some weight training. They had a little CrossFit area that was pretty sweet. So I d definitely go back to lift but not rock climb.

Routes are well set but not as strongly rated (V3 more like a V6 or 7. I climbed a 5.9 that was composed almost exclusively of pockets and monopockets and chips for feet...5.9s are usually more forgiving). Theres lots of rope routes too and some sweet looking lead action. You are, however, forced to anchor into the ground when belaying top rope. I have a problem with this because it makes climbers uneducated about how to properly belay and catch and certainly doesnt prepare and educate them for outdoor climbing or more advanced gym climbs. I could see if my belayer was making egregious and dangerous mistakes how anchoring would have kept me safer, however, my belayer was properly belaying.Yet i was still asked to come off the wall with only a few moves left in the problem because my belayer wasnt anchored to the ground. A clmbing gym that chooses the easy way by forcing to anchor people instead if teaching them proper technique is one that sacrifices education for the sake of comfort and speed. Its also unfair to experienced climbers to be asked to come down from a problem when theyre doing the right thing. I think this gym has great potential but punishing experienced climbers cant be the way to grow.

Dyno-Rock is a great old-school climbing gym. Be ready for stiff grades if, like me, you also climb at one of the bigger gyms in DFW. The Staff is friendly and watchful. My buddy and I like to do a traverse around the perimeter - great for building endurance and improving technique. Talk to Glenn when you visit; hes excited to show their new routes and tell about all their plans.

I am an avid outdoor climber with good experience and go to another gym 2-3 times a week. My first impression of Dyno Rocks is very hit and miss. First the bad: This gym seems to be geared more towards inexperienced climber at best. They use GriGri+ with the panic handle and explain very poorly how to belay in a safe manner. Our guy, not once, told our group to NEVER let go of the brake end of the rope. This is a huge red flag!!! Never ever for any reason let go of the brake end of the rope!!! He Never even mentioned PBUS or PLUS methods! He kept on explaining the anti-panic feature of the GriGri+ so much that even though he told us to lower slowly, that one of the new guys in our group kept trying to drop us and if it were not for the anti panic system of the belay device one of us should have been going to the hospital that night. I had to quickly explain a safe method of belay myself. Not cool. If you belay like they taught us and then go to any other gym which uses a standard GriGri... there is a high chance you can kill someone!!! Many holds were loose and rotating. Many routes were graded incocsetantly and confusing. Some even just ran out of holds before the top. The holds which are rock like and not plastic and worn and very slippery. Now the good: Gym staff were friendly and welcoming if not slightly non observant. The route grades were not soft gym grades and more true to outdoor grades. Some of the worn out slippery holds are more like real life and will make you a better overall climber. Annoying but a positive!! Some of the inconsistency of the routes mirrors outdoor climbs and makes you think and climb better. The roof for lead climbing looked fun but I didnt get a chance to try it that night. There is a really fun chimney in the back right corner. Overall a cool place to go if you know what youre doing. But as a cautionary... Of you are new to climbing please please make sure you fully understand belay technique before you climb at any other gym that uses standard GriGri.

The staff has a sorry training and they set behind the desk all day, do nothing. You need to be a experience in rock climbing if you go because you re basically on you re own. There s no safety or real training. I plan to seek out other rock climbing locations... dyno will be a last option for me.

Upon entering this establishment, one worker ignored us and another was rude and unprofessional. Instead of explaining politely waivers needed to be filled out by legal guardians for the two minors with us, the employee cut us off while talking to tell us what needed to be done. The facility is fine. But the employees need trained on how to talk to customers. The experience wasnt worth the drive or money.

We really enjoyed going to this location and even purchased a month s pass. It s a ton of fun, but we did start to notice a lot of loose holds and General lack of upkeep which was why we decided not to continue paying for a membership. I would definitely go back if they either made the passes more affordable or offered a bit more as far as experience and upkeep! Definitely still worth a day visit for a fun afternoon!

Bouldering mats is taped up and have holes in some if you landed wrong you could injure yourself. There was a loose rock on the climbing wall. The belay system is updated so it auto locks. All in all fix the safety of this facility and you could earn more business but I would not go again.

We had the best experience! Brought 5 kids ages 2-19. Not really conducive towards ages 5 below but my almost 4 year old had a blast (had to be rescued once by a staff) member but he was awesome. The staff is super duper helpful and friendly and they have a chalk wall for little kids to color on. If I had to do it again, I would leave the little ones at home, but the 11, 18 and 19 year old had SO much fun!

Multiple old carabiners that needed to be retired because gates did not close on their own. When I brought this to the attention of the two chums working I was told we are out of carabiners you have to lock them manually... Multiple holds on walls that were loose and spinning. Even exposed bolts on routes with sharp edges on the exposed bolts. Extremely unsafe gym. The guys working this past Sunday 3/17/19 were lousy and unhelpful, playing games on their cell phones behind the counter and not offering assistance to the multitude of beginners in this gym. I use to really enjoy this place but I am extremely disappointed in the lack of safety precautions...

I came here summer 2018. It would be a decent gym if there were no other options in the area... but that is not the case. Route settting was ok at best, reminded me of my college days where they would let people set routes who had been climbing for less than a month. From an experienced climber- person at the front desk was quite clueless and tried to give me belay pointers which were totally unsafe and inefficient... I ignored him and played nice so I could get a session in. 3 holds spun on me while I was here, completely unsafe and unacceptable. For reference I ve been climbing at summit for 4 years and have only spun one hold the entire time. I asked some other climbers about how frequently they change up the routes and the consensus was every once in a while . I will not go back. Hoping Summit buys em out and turns it into a serious establishment. If you re actually into rock climbing, drive the extra 10-20 minutes and go to summit rock climbing gyms.

The prices were excellent, but the route difficulty was pretty inconsistent, and as others have noted, difficult to distinguish in areas from other routes using the same color. Not a huge deal, but annoying nonetheless. What was extremely dangerous and scary about this place was that they seemed to care very little about safety - I notified that they use double lock carabiners on most of their routes, when I would expect a more standard, triple lock. The staff was not regularly engaged in watching the climbing area, but was chilling behind the desk or on their phones. And most notably, one of the staff was extremely lax while teaching a new climber to belay using a grigri. The newcomer, while consistently holding the tail of the rope above his head rather than down in the locked position, took out his phone and was taking photos of his climber, all while the staff member was standing right next to him!! While the Groupon was a good deal ($22.50 for two climbers + gear), if the staff doesn t enforce the rules with the easy things, how can I be assured that the hidden things (quality of the support bars, internal structure of the wall, age of the rental gear etc) aren t being let go as well? EDIT: A member of the DynoRock management team contacted me and asked me to detail the events above. They stated that the details would be provided to their staff members so that they can improve on safety.

All in all it was about 17.50$ for the rock climbing and a harness, which wasnt too bad. They have a great variety of walls to climb, which vary in difficulty from extremely easy to extremely hard, which makes this place good for a family fun day or for someone with experience who wants a little challenge. Overall I had a great time and would suggest it for anyone looking to rock climb.

This climbing gym falls short in nearly every aspect. I cannot recommend it for the following reasons: - They promote poor belay technique (and do not use PBUS). - The ropes are very old and hardened, which makes belaying a pain. - A lot of their holds need to be replaced as they are extremely worn - The bouldering areas have a serious lack of pads which is a huge safety liability. - The staff seem very cold and unpassionate about their work. - Very strange hours. What gym opens at 3pm on a Saturday? Crazy. - Dirty walls and very boring autobelay configurations. - Several of their carabiners are NOT safe and need to be retired ASAP. - Some of the bars that ropes are secured to are unnecessarily far from the wall, which leads to excessive swinging. Poor design. - The bouldering routes are very confusing and hard to distinguish, in part because many of the holds are so dirty its impossible to tell what color they were originally. - The top rope routes are also very confusing because they use similar colored tape for two routes on one rope. Seriously, what the hell? There were multiple instances of two blue routes on top of each other. Absolutely unacceptable. All that said, there are a couple of positives: + The cave upstairs is pretty nice + The lead climbing roof is very cool + The day pass fee is reasonable I am under the impression that this climbing location is very old and in need of dire innovation. Furthermore, it appears that neither the staff nor the setters make any effort to improve the quality of the experience. Besides the cave and lead climbing, there is little about this gym thats appealing. However, if they actually put in some effort, Dyno Rock has the potential to be great again.

As I m sitting here typing this message another BLACK family was turned around. I will be requesting a refund for my purchase and will NOT BE BACK!!! STAY AWAY IF YOU ARE NOT ONE OF THEM!!! NO WHERE ON THEIR SITE OR GROUPON DOES IT SAY BRING PAPERS SHOWING YOU ARE THE PARENT/GUARDIAN OF KIDS THAT ATTEND WITH YOU!!! Wonderful rock climbing gym. They offer regular walls, some with auto-belay and a bouldering wall as well. Plenty of challenges for advanced climbers but also enough options for beginners to enjoy. I went using a groupon and I know plenty of people using groupon are upset because they dont read that they need to call 24 hours in advance to let them know youll be coming in. I was given an introductory lesson in a small group which gave me all the information I needed to climb for the first time. I have no complaints and am excited to go again soon.
