I usually come here with my wife. We have been coming here for a few years now. Everytime we come here we are greeted by the owner, hes always welcoming. The food is always very flavorful. they dont have a very extensive menu, but the items they offer are very good. The beans are really flavorful and perfectly cooked and seasoned. My wife loves the veggie aztec soup. I usually get thier chicken pozole. And then enfrijoladas( OMG)! Now Im hungry. Vegetarian options: They have quite a few vegitarian and vegan options here. Beens( cooked with veg oil, not pork lard) and multiple broths are vegitarian.

What an amazing place. Previous reviewers are right about the parking. Better to go behind and come around the building. We had the Chicken mole and the Pork Asado. The mole is rich and slightly sweet that has a perfect balance of chocolate and chili. They add peanut to theirs so it is unique. The Asado is AMAZING ! The sauce is incredible. The service was good, and the people are friendly and kind. We will definitely return.

If you re craving some old school fideo. This is the place. Parking: There is plenty of parking but getting in and out is a bit of a challenge during rush hour since it s located in an awkward street corner.

There was no variety of hot salsas and fresh veggies (avocado, cucumbers, jalapeños, reddish, vinegar onions, pico de gallo etc.) for just the variety of mini tacos they have. I had bistec tacos but I wish it was tastier, and a good sauce would have raised the flavor very much and it would not be so dry).

The salsa is spicy (in a good way), drinks are strong, and the service is fast and welcoming. You wont find queso or text mex here, but you will find tasty, unique Mexican dishes. I had the mole Verde calabazas. The mole Verde is something Ive rarely seen on menus, and is earthy, mild, but complex. Paired with the calabazas (zucchinis), I had a lighter yet filling meal compared to something smothered in cheese. No regrets - it was delicious, and if I lived nearby, it would be a regular part of my rotation. Highly recommend for other vegetarians like me- their beans and rice are also lard free, for those who may be wary.

The prices on the menu do not match the prices they charge you at check out. I was charged $28 and change, for chicken tortilla soup, chips and guac & salsa. Adding chicken to your tortilla soup is apparently an extra charge, in comparison to being charged just plain broth water without any vegetables? I read the reviews after my experience to make sure I wasn t tripping and there you have it, other people have also complained about the pricing difference as well as the quality of food. When it was time to check out my to go order, the cashier had initially told me my total was about $27, before the receipt was printed out to be signed, and the receipt said $28 and some change. Kinda suspicious to state a particular price on the menu, tell your customers a much higher total and still try to charge them an even still higher total. When I had tried to ask for some extra salsa for my soup because I like my soups extremely spicy, it turns out that I wasn t even provided the salsa I paid for in the first place & the cashier had to then get it to place it in my bag as an oopsie for not putting it in the first place. It seems they try to charge as much as they can, for as little quantity as possible, to see how much they can get away with. First & last time visiting. Would not recommend.

Had dinner with some friends here last night who were in town and I will definitely be recommending this place to other friends in the future! I only had the shrimp cocktail cause I wasnt feeling very hungry but it was good, it was sweet but tangy, a bit reminiscent of chamoy. Also had the Vampiro and Horchata which were amazing. I could take a gallon of the Horchata home and it wouldnt be enough! I did also try my friends Nopales and they were super good, I will definitely get these next time so I can eat a whole portion! Our server Victor was very friendly and fun to talk to. He was welcoming from the start and very attentive to our needs throughout the dinner. Even helped recommend some food to one of my friends in a patient and detailed manner. :) Overall super easy going and nice to joke around with. All of the staff who talked to us were friendly and nice as well, made the environment very comfortable to be in. I hope they know theyre doing a great job! :)

Wow. Long week of fun work in San Antonio. I told myself I was gonna find some Pozole Verde. Much to my surprise and despite being 2 hours from Mexico... there is mainly Tex Mex in SA and actual Mexican food is kind of challenging. Zero pozole downtown SA. Mind blown. I Googled, and Googled... one place kept coming up on Reddit and everywhere I looked: Guajillos. I had my Uber drop me off en route to the airport. Best meal I had all week. Hands down. Met the owner and she said it has been going STRONG for 24 years! She said on Sundays they have to lock the doors because enough people to fill the restaurant arrive early every Sunday and it is chaos. I was the only non Mexican or Mexican American in the building. It was everything I dreamed of. Highly recommended if you swing through San Antonio. Wowowow!

Vegetarian options: The tortillas and salsa are worth a vegetarians time if they are looking to have a tucked away margarita. Did not ask, but the tortilla soup may be vegetarian. The option to add chicken is there if you want it. Kid-friendliness: There were people with their babies, quite a few.

Not a pleasant visit. Whether its more or less authentic, I dont have the experience to say. I just know that the food was not enjoyable. The tortilla soup, never seen anything like it. An extremely dark broth with an odd flavor, full of shredded chicken (not inherently a bad thing) but nothing else. Looked like runny molé. Some type of meatball dish. The flavors were just all wrong. I really dont have the words to describe everything. Just, all off flavors and trying to be...unique I guess? With the dishes. Sorry I know Im not much help here. Our party tried 3 sopas, pozole verde and roja, and birria. All very good. Recommend you offer a flight with cups of all three!

Great salsa and margaritas. Loved our serve. Entrees are interesting - not your everyday Tex-Mex. Everything I had was delicious.

What a mexican food delicacy. This surely brings all the Mex without the Tex. If you want some super tasty Mexican food and you are in SA, then this place is a must!. The cochinita pibil is absolutely amazing! Also, dont forget about the flan

I tried their location in Corpus last year. The couple working in Corpus told us their other location was in San Antonio. I was visiting SA for the weekend and stopped in before driving home. I stopped in on a Monday around 1215. The place was packed, so I knew it would be just as good as the CC location. Had the cochinita pibil, it was so good! Big portions. I will be back the next time I visit! We had the pozole Rojo and Verde in CC. They were so good! If you like spicy pickled onions, you will love them here.

We have eaten here several times before and it was a treat to eat some authentic food, however this time not sure what changed maybe due to price increase. But anyways the food this time was very disappointing, Tortillas were cold and hard, the birria was 10 oz of meat but it seem much less for around $17 not good, which it was pre-prepard so I am wondering if it was frozen. The cochinita pibil was okay but was very liquidity i am sure that was due to possibly pre-prepard and /or ffrozen. The staff was nice..Oh well.

I was visiting from Austin and wanted some good Mexican food, not Tex-Mex. Im so glad I found this place. The salsa was insanely good; very spicy, but the garlic flavor was addictive. I had to take some home with me. The pozole verde was hearty, well-seasoned, and the serving was huge. Perfect for a rainy day. The waiter was also very attentive despite the restauraunt being busy. Ill definitely have to come back and bring the family.

The shortcut to mexico pretty much sums it up. First time there, and I decided on tortilla soup, and it was the worst mistake. It looked like toilet water and tasted prob just as bad. It was dark, with a couple of chips, broth, and left-over cheese. No onions, vegetables, or flavor

One of my favorite lunch spots in San Antonio! Not traditional TexMex like most places in SA. There are very unique and delicious plates available and inexpensive lunch specials. Their salsa is very good and hot and unique to San Antonio too. If you re tired of the same old TexMex give Guajillos a try!
